I love Ethiopian food but don’t have any good places near me. This place is amazing! There was one guy running the whole show the night we went there so service was a little slow but actually we didn’t care because the food was so unreal. It was reasonably priced too (three of us ate a heap of food and shared a decent bottle of wine for about £79). Great for vegans as quite a few of the sharing platters are naturally plant-based!

Lovely Ethiopian restaurant. Great place for an introduction to Ethiopian cuisine. Three of our party had never tried Ethiopian food before, but were very much impressed. We got some lamb samosas and the cottage cheese with injera to start. Then for mains we ordered two sharing platters on injera to share (one meat-based, one veggie). This was a great way to try many different dishes. We then got dessert accompanied by a traditional coffee ceremony - we felt we couldn’t leave without trying coffee from its birthplace. The ceremony involved wafting the scent of roasting coffee our way and the burning of frankincense as we drank. Really great experience - the guy who served us was friendly and the atmosphere is lovely too. Well decorated with a range of ornaments and art representing Ethiopia’s cultural heritage. Would definitely recommend!

This restaurant is well worth a visit. It's got a relaxed atmosphere, cosy decor, and the staff check in enough to make sure you're sorted. The food is good, especially if you want vegetarian options. You can eat many of the options using injera bread, which is filling; although cutlery is available if you’d like. The standout for me was the coffee ceremony; with coffee beans roasted right in front of you, served alongside fragrant frankincense. It's a nice multi sensory touch that rounds off the meal well. Every dish was tasty, so you're after something that's not your standard fare but not too left-field, Lalibela is worth a shot.

Greasy, greasy and greasy.. from starter to dessert, everything seems to be floating, dunk and submerged in oil! A pity, as the main dish (tofu and spinach) was tasty, but the oil used is way too much. Ended up with an upset stomach, did some research and found this place has got only a hygiene rating score of 3 :(

I have been going to Lalibela for years, and it is my favourite restaurant in the world. It’s a lovely family-run place with the kindest staff- and have had multiple birthday dinners and dinners with friends here over the years. The food is amazing- really flavoursome and really good for veggies like me. I always get a different dish every time and the flavours are just delicious. couldn’t recommend a better place in the whole or London. Also the atmosphere is just wonderful- Ethiopian music and artwork everywhere!! And the the milk and honey cake is a must-have <3

Went in here because the outside looked nice. They didn't have any samosas, which was disappointing. Sadly, the food wasn't very nice, but maybe that's just me. The decor was nice but that's about it. To see the menu, you have to scan a QR code on your phone. You don't get a very good signal in there and they don't provide any WiFI. This is a bad customer experience. The font on the menu is extremely difficult to read. When we asked to pay the bill, the lady said: "cash only". She should have told us that at the start. It seems very shady. I wouldn't go here again or recommend it.

This spot has been on our list for a longtime and we were super excited to try some Ethiopian food for the first time - and what a disappointing experience. Firstly, there was no water offered. No cutlery was laid and neither was any form of hand sanitiser/ towels given. The lack of hand hygiene made us pretty uncomfortable as the food needed to be eaten by hand. The food was average - but extremely oily. (Again no hand towels after the meal - just a paper napkin) The worst was yet to come. THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH!!! They don’t even inform guests before offering food that this is a cash only place. Very surprising as almost every place I’ve been to accepts contactless/ bank transfers or informs BEFOREHAND that it’s cash only. The waitress refused to accept a bank transfer as her manager was on a holiday. My partner was forced to back home to get a card, withdraw cash and pay the bill. We live around 20 mins away and no regard was given to this - I was made to wait for 40 mins while my partner returned - this could have been avoided if the waitress accepted the bank transfer. Oh did I mention - I was not even offered water during the 40 min wait. The cash operation seems very shady. Will not be coming back here. The worst dining experience in London so far. Pathetic. Extremely low regard for customer experience. The ups - good music and average food.

The vegetarian platter it doesn’t test as Ethiopian food. after dinner I would like to pay with my card they told me only cash. Some of customers like me very disappointed and not happy at all. Most of Ethiopian restaurants in london to avoid tax they only accept cash. So I request the young man to give me his account and I transfer the money in his account. Even I am not happy with the service they tried to change me service change and I told them I will not pay the service charge because I am not happy with the service. I am not trying to point out in my own community but this is very annoying for customer , you should improve your customer service. Please also you should serve fresh injera & wet . Not going again

Some of the best food I've had in London. The food here tastes exquisite and they take the time to make it taste so, which very few restaurants still do. The service is wholesome, the kind you can only find at a family run restaurant and they also put a lot of effort into the atmosphere of the place. Highly recommend, specially for vegetarians and vegans! 🇪🇹 💜

Booked a table for two 10 days in advance for my birthday, when we arrived we got sat at the back in a dark corner near the kitchen. Tried to explain twice that I had a reservation and asked for a better table was dismissed and told they were full. Then saw walk ins arriving after us and were sat on better tables. So disappointed as have eaten there several times before and raved to my friend about how good the food was. We walked out after waiting to be served. No one noticed us leave.

A neighbourhood institution. Been going back here for years as I live locally. On a recent visit, in early May 2022, the food at Lalibela was just as good as it’s always been, which means very tasty and fresh. There are many options for vegetarians. For gluten free, they can supply gluten free injera if you ask (their regular injera wasn’t gluten free, they said). My party loved the frankincense and roasted coffee beans aroma. They also enjoyed the traditional decor.

Massively overpriced! You get a box suitable for holding a cupcake filled with some basic white rice, and one or two table spoons of toppings for £7.50! And the box used started to leak within 5 minuets so had to eat it when I wasn’t ready or it would be been spoilt ( see pictures ). It all tasted the same as well, the only difference between toppings were the textures. Either make your portions bigger or lower your price as the food isn’t fresh it’s just under a heat lamp so it’s only warm and no price difference for takeaway or sit in. Disappointing experience. Two stars because it’s fully vegan, but unless prices or quantity change it won’t be a place I support

We had the flat bread pancake thing with the chicken and lamb. The bread made the plate pretty much and you just tear it up and pick up the different varieties of toppings they give you with it. Really yum, that and a small starter for me and the mrs had us stuffed! Very fairly priced as well!

Great food, and beautiful restaurant. There was a lot to choose from even as a vegetarian. The spices used, in particular the berbere spice mix, is quite different to the sort of spices used in other cuisines I have tried. The portions are generous and there's a lot of injera provided with every meal. We had to take a good proportion of our meal home with us. Used some of the leftover injera the next day for breakfast, filled with chocolate pieces and blueberries heated in a pan. The Ethiopian version of crepe I guess.

I love Ethiopian very much and this place has given me good Ethiopian. However after coming here for more than a year or two every few weeks I just can’t go again and it’s mostly because the staff are so unpleasant. You are not allowed to sit at the nicer, larger tables (the small tables are far too small when they serve everything in giant platters) unless you are in a group (which I have never seen eat there once but apparently they need all of them free just in case). The food itself is actually quite variable, one day is delicious and another watery and not much taste. The serving sizes are different based on the mood of your particular server (I always ordered the same mixed platter for too and a chickpea stew but this sometimes was not enough for myself and my dinning partner and other times far more than enough). And they are just very uninterested in how your food or experience was. I think it may just be a case of a small family operation pretending to be a professional restaurant but it’s sadly not near the standards of Ethiopian restaurants nearby.

The last I saw the place closed but the food was good and the atmosphere was as amazing. A great artistic take for a restaurant. People complained about the food they got with a virgin experience voucher, but I feel it’s to be expected when you aren’t paying full price. We paid full price for our food, got what we wanted on the menu and we were not disappointed.
