what a lovely wee place .... was here for lunch today 17/8/23 with hubby had been planning to come here for a while and finally made it today Inside is small but had a lovely feeling about it and decorated beautifully the guy who looked after us (sorry forgot to ask his name) was very friendly and made us feel very welcome There is a good choice of food to cater for everyone's taste we both had prawn cocktail for starters then fish and chips sooo tasty and the chips were real chips none of those frozen ones that hold the grease and hubby had the lemon tart to finish off he said it was lovely We would definitely recommend the Auchans and will be back soon

Having popped in here recently for a few drinks in the beer garden as we were staying at a local caravan park I have to say very friendly staff and a lovely-looking venue, we never had any food but will most definitely will on our next visit. And a big thanks for the free Gin glass and alcohol-free Guinness

Stumbled across this great little restaurant in Dundonald when we were looking for some lunch on our way to Dreghorn Gala Day. From the outside it looks fairly unassuming but inside it was like the Tardis, with a spacious bar area and a spacious restaurant area at the front, a lounge area with comfy chairs and, at the back, another large restaurant area. We were greeted by a very pleasant waitress, shown to a secluded table and offered three menu choices, the full menu, the lunchtime menu and a specials menu. There is a great choice with some unusual, interesting dishes and had we been there for Dinner, I would have plumped for the Sea Trout and Scallops. As we were only there for lunch I chose the Potato Scone Nachos with bacon, black pudding, pepper sauce and Cheddar Cheese, partly because the name of the dish intrigued me and partly because it sounded so delicious. I was not disappointed on either count. The dish consisted of large potato scone triangles arranged in a starfish formation with the centre full of the other ingredients combined and bound in the pepper sauce - delicious. We will definitely be back again when we're next in the area - and this time it will be for dinner !!!

Great night at the weekly quiz night. We had the 2 course set menu before the quiz started and everyone commented how good their food is. Freindly atmosphere made for a most enjoyable night.

What’s not to like! Excellent food, well presented and with just the right level of service! The ambiance in the front restaurant is very calm, relaxing and enjoyable. A bit of noise from the bar but hey, does it really matter? We’ll done everyone, I’ll be back!

Went for a Sunday roast dinner on the auchans and it was one of the best I've had. Such a great choice of meat, potato and veg! I was in my element! Will definitely be back. The reason I rated it 4 and not 5 was because they didn't offer their normal menu.

We were blown away by the staff, service and food at our wedding on 15th October. John, Mhairi and all of the team could not have done enough for us, our guests were raving about the food and attention they received. Wonderful venue, even more wonderful staff team. I can't recommend them enough, particularly for lovely, personalised events. Our day was absolutely perfect.

Best meal today in a long time. 10 out 10 to the CHEF. Honestly, the stuffed Chicken I had was faultless as was the Chicken Tempura my wife had. We then shared a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream etc. Brilliant again.

What a fab little venue this pub and restaurant is. Can't fault the food. Our 2cr lunch was delicious. Definitely a return visit planned.

Had a recent return visit to this restaurant on a 5pm voucher. Excellent choice of starters and mains. We had the goats cheese bruschetta and the brocoli soup. Both were excellent choices. We had the steak pie and the cajan vegetable crepe and were not...

Received a gift voucher for 2 courses, hadn’t visited in a long time due to Covid etc and what a delightful surprise! Portions are very generous, I had haggis fritters, delicious, we could have shared them. My husband had pate very nice. Steak pie lovely...

Pleasant surroundings, starters were lovely the mains hot and tasty (the cajun chicken curry was to die for) and the sweets were an excellent finish to a great meal. Will be back soon

Lovely food and great service but it’s very cold. They really do need to put heating on before opening the restaurant. Only complaint we have. Will visit again in the summer when it’s warmer

Went today with itison voucher and was so impressed with the quality and presentation of our meal. All fresh vegetables, nothing from frozen and beautifully cooked. Can’t praise this wee village restaurant high enough. Prices are very reasonable and we’ll definitely be going back.

This wee place was a total find. An Itison voucher, not sure what to expect but it was fantastic! For fab, service was too, really lovely staff. Although a drive for us, we will be back without the voucher!

Stopped in by chance for a light lunch, good and varied menu, not expensive and fresh ingredients/generous portions. Had soup and a sandwich and coffee but plenty of other menu choices and by the look of other diners plates the food is well presented. Plenty...

Attended with friends last day prior to latest lockdown restrictions using our Itison vouchers. From our arrival it was clear that appropriate measures had been put in place at the venue and a one way system was also in place. Tables are well spaced out...

I attended the Auchans just last week and was straight away welcomed by the Auchans team. We asked if we could dine in the bar area which was not a problem at all. Dog friendly which is amazing as we're always looking for new places...

Sadly one of the worst lunches I’ve had for a while. First choice was not available so I reselected - 2 starters. Prawns were not fresh, not off, but I was not happy to eat them. Followed this with cauliflower pakora which was awful. Greasy over fried battered cauliflower which was not pakora. My hubby had steak pie which was just gloopy and disappointing with veg and frozen mash which was not hot enough. Our previous visit here was actually quite good! Maybe the chef had a day off!

Went in with family and friends for a few drinks to watch the rugby and then a bite to eat. Bar was nice and busy for the rugby then headed to the restaurant for food. Food was lovely and service was great.

We had an impromptu family dinner out at the Auchans tonight and Brodie (8) and Elodie (6) absolutely loved their meals! They loved them some much that I was forced to write the review whilst still sitting in the restaurant! Lovely for us to see the kids so enthusiastic about their dinner! By the way...Mum and Dad enjoyed theirs too!!

Family dinner to celebrate Xmas. We were sat upstairs due to the number in our party. Room was well decorated but the tables could do with updating. Menu choice was good and we were able to select from the lunch menu for dinner. Prices were higher than expected for some of the dishes. Food itself was lovely and the staff were friendly.

Had a meal here a while ago and it was good. Yesterday 6 of us went in for Christmas Eve lunch. It was awful. So embarrassed. Worst meal we ever had. Definitely will not be back.

Tried this place on an it is on voucher as we do with many places to sus them out before committing to revisit. Very pleased with this one. Location is on the main street with a small car park but plenty of on street parking. The bar restaurant is well decorated and fresh. The dining area was well lit and comfortable. We only saw one member of staff who seemed to be tending bar ,taking orders and serving food, we had no issue with this as he was friendly and very efficient. Food was presented very well on the plate and portions just right. The it is on menu was a little restricted for choice but great value. I would recommend the chicken strips in batter with chilli sauce as starter and chicken breast with pepper sauce and mashed potatoes as main, both delicious. We checked out the normal menus for lunch and dinner and choice was more extensive. Saw someone getting the burgers and they looked amazing. Price wise dishes are average for area maybe just a tiny bit higher but given the quality of what we received would be happy to pay it. Will definitely return and would recommend trying this place. We were a bit hesitant going as there were some conflicting reviews but had a lovely evening.

DHave been here several times. It was extremely cold when we went in and when the blond haired waitress came over we asked if the heating could be put on (the radiators were stone cold) to which she immediately copped an attitude and stated if she put the heat on it would take at least 30 minutes to start heating up. The heat was never put on. My 91year old Aunt ate with her jacket on.

Been several times this month after finding it on itison - best place in area . Unassuming front but once inside the food is extremely well done . Normal menu excellent , Sunday lunch menu is really great value and itison menu equally great . Staff are welcoming and efficient . We have been three times this month since discovering and have also tried their sister restaurant in Ayr - the Waterfront which is equally good . Both are consistent in their quality , presentation and efficient staff .

Business dinner in a relaxed setting. Really well presented dining area and met with a friendly welcome.All the food looked great and there were no complaints from the group of 8.This is a must visit if you like good food and really friendly service.

My husband and i went last week.Really enjoyed our meal very very friendly staff allways came over and asked us if everything was allright excellent food very clean toilet so clean wil be back

The dining room is apart from the main bar, towards the rear of the building. It is quite spacious, with windows running along one side. The décor is light and tasteful. There is a car park.The menu had a good variety of choices. We were served promptly and efficiently. All of us enjoyed our meals and wouldn't hesitate to dine hear again if in the area.

Didn't have great service, no one registered we were attempting to be seated for a long whilst. Also there was a rowdy party in the bar that really interrupted our meal. I had the veggie thai curry but asked to add chicken and was charged £5 for this? Quite a hefty bill when it came to paying, for pretty standard food. I do commend the quality and visuals of the food we were provided though, definitely not your typical wetherspoons and I guess you have to pay for that privilege !

Good menu choice although I was a little disappointed that the gluten free bread was unavailable as it hadn’t been delivered yet. Despite that I had a delicious salad and all my friends enjoyed their meals. Very pleasant and helpful staff. I will return

Chicken was fine but not outstanding. The potatoes were very smooth and the vegetables were alright as well but nothing really struck me as exceptional. The sticky toffee pudding was rather tough and difficult to get a spoon through. The taste, however, was fine.

Decided to pop in for Breakfast on Sunday and was very pleasantly surprised by the standard of food. A good menu which we thought was good value for money all washed down with a decent cup of coffee.All delivered to our table in the bar by Emma, who delivered great service

We were a fairly large group (7) and were able to be accommodated and were warmly welcomed.We ordered a mix of starters, main courses and deserts.The starters were tiny for the money although tasty.On the main courses though it was a huge hit and miss with the food.The chickpea and halloumi burger tasted like cardboard, the steak pie was small, very salty and the veg was just half a tonne of buttered (?) carrots. The boys chicken burger was just loaded with mayo in the bun and otherwise quite in-inspired. But the chips - both regular and sweet potato were lovely!!!! The pasta just felt like it had a jar of ragu poured on it - very acidic.The sweets were OK........ Scones with butter you had to chip with an axe as it was so hard and fairly tough sticky toffee pudding.Others in the group did enjoy what they had - fish pie, soup. So perhaps we were just unlucky???But I will not be racing back. Still feel ill at the thought of that chickpea burger : (

We went last night to this lovely restaurant.We were greeted warmly and had excellent service throughout the meal.The chicken strips starters were delicious and my wife thought her fish cakes were great.I had a huge portion of fish and chips which was great,and my wife had feathered blade of beef which was wonderful I really liked everything about our visit.We will certainly return

Had really lovely lunch here. I had a burger which was delicious and huge. The rest of our party all said their dishes were lovely. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Decor and atmosphere really nice.

First visit and last visit ever.Main course was average.Knickerbocker glory sweet contained more apple than ice cream.Liquor coffee tasted like dishwasher.Waited 45 minutes to have our main course plates removed.More interested in selling raffle tickets than looking after so called restaurant customers.The people that rave about this place must surely be on the payroll.

First time here--son lives local so ideal place for a family get together- at last! Starters went down well....all looked good. I don't eat much so can only comment on main course. I had featherblade of beef-on first glance wasn't sure as it was a huge piece of beef not slices as I expected but it was so tender I hardly needed a knife. The sauce was delicious and just the right mix of vegetables. My daughter in law had the chicken fajitas- plenty- next time we will share! Puddings went down well.Staff attentive and pleasant, lovely, noisy and busy between 6pm and 8pm---good to see..will be back. Thanks

Went after purchasing a Groupon voucher. It was lovely, food and service very good will be back, great value for the Groupon.

The Auchans is a good enough bar but as a change we decided to dine early in the restaurant on a Saturday. We were persuaded to dine in the restaurant at the back which felt like a shop cafe (bland) and at 630pm it was noisy with young kids. Fair enough at that time but unfortunately the noise dominated the meal. Also had to remind staff about our outstanding drinks order more than mid way through dinner. Small niggles but enough to convince us to stick with the bar or the front restaurant with more atmosphere in future. Food was good. Particularly the main courses and staff were really nice. But some bits of the jigsaw just didn’t fit which left us feeling mixed about dinner there in future. Perhaps less cafe and more ambience would be better or stick with good pub grub. Will return but perhaps just for drinks.

Visited twice with our dogs.Great welcome from staff and regulars. Went for drinks but decided to eat as bar area was very nice,treated like restaurant guests - which is really nice for dog owners who rarely eat out.Food impressive and service excellent-if only we had somewhere similar near home,we'd go out more often.

Close to the castle so popped in. The food was excellent with all 3 course being equally good. The black pudding & chorizo bon bons were great - the slithers of apple set the flavours off wonderfully. The fish pie my wife had was full of fish.The place is well laid out & decorated & the staff extremely helpful. The food was good value too.

Visited on a Saturday night in June, huge selection on the menu, mainly pub grub type dishes with a few specials. Starters and mains were very nice and the portions were very big! Service was good albeit a little slow. I think our waiter was fairly new. Would recommend for a casual family dinner.

A Saturday evening meal with Family. Sat at table at 18:00 and waited over an hour for starters to arrive. Main course also took a long time to be served.The upstairs restaurant has little ambiance and is more like a village hall than a pleasant eating environment.You really need to check your bill here as they charged for extra placing which we did not haveOh dear this was a “mistake” was the response.There are a lot of excellent places to eat in Ayrshire so we will go elsewhere in future

Decided to book with itison voucher for our anniversary. The staff were lovely from booking table and on the night providing a choice of where we would like to sit. We had a lovely meal and paid extra for desert which was a lovely surprise when mine arrived. We can't fault service or food and was a lovely first visit and lovely informal place to eat,would definitely return.

Service was great: attentive and friendly. A lovely restaurant which deserves to have long-term success. It has a Buzzworks feel but with much tastier menu choices and a less pretentious atmosphere, in my humble opinion! Teriyaki salmon with hoi sin noodles were so delicious. Will be back soon. Bypass Gatehead and Troon and give this a try, fellow trip advisors.

This is an extremely friendly bar and restaurant. We were greeted at the entrance with a friendly smile, and guided to our table. Staff allowed us to sit and chat before asking if we were ready to order. The meal was produced in good time, and that is where the visit was enhanced. The food was attractive on the plate, and very tasty and moreish. All the courses were produced without interrupting table chat, and it was disappointing when the meal finished. It was very good value for money.

We went with an itison deal for £21. Food excellent. I had pate, my wife had goats cheese. I had fish & chips, my wife had the haggis neeps and tattles. I had a soft drink, as was driving , my wife had the white wine, all included in £21 deal. Came home bought another deal.

Had heard great things about here so decided to go for lunch. It was amazing. Quality and value. Staff are just wonderful and helpful. It was so good immediately booked for dinner the next day.

The fish and chips were average. However reasonable priced! The cocktails where also nice and service was friendly and helpful.

Dropped in for a bite of lunch. Throughly impressed with the soup and fish finger sandwich - imagined Captain Birds Eye fish fingers in a bun, how wrong could I have been! Fabulous homemade fish goujons served in fresh bread with lovely salad and homemade coleslaw. Also very impressed with the chicken fajitas served on a sizzling platter which was loaded full of chicken and vegetables. Definitely well worth a visit.

had supper here with friends from dundonald. i had read one or two negative reviews about the auchans, and i dont understand them. the food in this place is excellent. the starters, mains and sweets were delicious and filling. we all had something different, everybody agreed it was beautiful food. it is not overpriced for anything on the menu, and plenty of choice. we will be returning. well done the auchans

With my wife, Daughter-in-law and two Grand-daughters, popped in for lunch, made very welcome by the staff. Delightful meal, served by a very pleasant young waitress who made our grand-daughters feel special. Price for the meal with drinks very reasonable. Menu was extensive, and very reasonably priced. I remember these premises from many years ago when it was just a pub (I worked at Monsanto). It was great to see it again, looking so good and obviously well run. Highly recommended.

Passing through Dundonald today and recently been to their sister restaurant in Ayr, I decided to treat myself to lunch at the Auchans.Lovely place inside, smart yet comfortable. I loved the decor. Beautiful village it’s in as well.Food - I had the Atlantic prawns and smoked salmon sandwiches with Parmesan and chilli fries. The portion was a perfect size - the prawns and salmon were both fresh and the only slight criticism is that the prawns could’ve definitely done with more Marie Rose sauce. The Parmesan and chilli chips were just awesome.Excellent service, special shout out to Emma who served me. Staff were attentive, quick and really friendly too.

Have eaten at this establishment a few times but always in the evening. Thought we would do lunch today. Everything was perfect. Food cannot be faulted lovely as ever. Cannot wait for my next visit. Highly recommend 😁

1st visit here today but definitely won’t be the last. Had the sesame seed chicken goujons then the steak pie. Steak pie was the best I’ve had in a while. The staff were all lovely and very attentive.

A warm fruit scone with butter, jam and cream plus a pot of tea which filled a large cup twice. All for £2 per person between 3pm and 5pm weekdays. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Nice quiet atmosphere on an afternoon with a nice view of the castle and village.Touched the spot after a spell in the garden

My partner and I had a Sunday lunch here.The food was tasty but could have been a bit hotter for me.I had slow cooked beef which melted in your mouth, my partner had the Butternut squash pie, which he much enjoyed.One other point to make the carrots were too hard.Pleasant service from the staff.

Called in on a Saturday evening at short notice and although all tables were booked, the staff kindly sat us at a table that appeared to be a meeting area. The menu was fairly extensive and very reasonably priced. Although after ordering and receiving the wrong starter, I could not fault the politeness and efficiency of the serving staff. I will definitely return.

Visited here as a deal through itison, on arrival table wasn't ready so had to wait 15 mins in the bar,ordered our meal and when it arrived I thought the portions were very small,food was nice enough though, but I left there feeling hungry and went to McDonald's, don't think I'd visit again

Visited for evening meal with an Itison voucher for two courses plus a drink. Two courses were so good ,we decided to have three. Food excellent. Staff excellent and dining room attractive and comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Visit here on a regular basis and can’t fault the staff. Particularly the joint owner Ally. Food is great. Lovely inside really can’t fault it.

A very pleasant converted pub with decent food . Much prefer it to some of the chains that are so prevalent in Ayrshire. We had rump of lamb and a beef stew - not adventurous or cutting edge , but both tasty and well cooked . The scallop starter with pea purée and black pudding was very good . I would certainly return .

There is a lot to like about The Auchans. Delicious food, variety of choices and offers, fair prices, great staff (one of the most welcoming places ever!). Besides, they run numerous entertainments that are very much appreciated- Thursday pub quizz, movie nights, parties and festive celebrations. Highly recommended

The place is lovely great food and excellent service, we had a itison deal which is excellent value 2 courses and cocktails , I had the prawn cocktail and my partner had sesame coated hicken strips which were beautiful then on to fish and chips which I would recommend. We then asked for pudding menu I had the knickerbocker. Glory and anne had sticky toffee pudding which were lush. Would recommend and definitely return

Hadn't been here before, but we were enticed to visit The Auchans for the first time with an Itison Voucher and we were not disappointed. The Voucher entitled two people to a choice of a Starter & Main Course with a glass of wine or beer each. Food was fantastic, we both opted for the Slow Cooked Featherblade of Beef which was cooked to perfection and offered decent sized portions. The staff were very friendly and extremely efficient. Would definitely recommend & wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.

The Auchans is a family run restaurant in the village of Dundonald. You always get a friendly welcome and the food is always very good. It’s freshly cooked using good quality ingredients. They also do special events such as Jazz Sunday and Film nights. It is an asset to the village
