The Aston Tavern in Birmingham

What a transformation and from days long gone so much work thought gone into a dear old part of Aston myself and friends used the Tavern in the eighties so to see it restored to unbelievable expectations is amazing so don’t knock it try it pop in you won’t be disappointed many thanks to Paul and his staff for retaining the Tavern to its wonderful glory 👍❤️

Whilst attending a local hospitality event we chose the Aston Tavern to stay over, the bedrooms were very well presented and the beds very comfortable, it was like being going back in time but with all the modern day requirements. This establishment has been refurbished to a very high standard maintaining all the character you would expect from a building of this age. With a large garden and various bar rooms to converse, this is one not to be missed and look forwards to staying hear again.

I stayed here for 1 night last week as I was attending a conference at the Bet365 stadium the next day. This is literally minutes away to walk or drive. The hotel itself is in an industrial area of town, but internally it's so lovely with attention to detail and so much character. The rooms we're spotless and had everything you needed. Bed comfy also and the breakfast was to order and good selection. Thank you for a great stay. I would recommend.

Great place to visit before and after aston villa games

Lovely room a few cobwebs hanging from ceiling around the spotlights. The bed base is fastened by cable ties and the cut off ends are not hidden and scratchy on you shins.

I booked for a baby-shower for August 20+ people. Firstly the communication was poor. After going in myself I finally booked and paid a £200 deposit. Only to receive a txt msg saying the baby shower has to be cancelled. No phone call or apology initially. Very poor customer service. If you wish to hold an event here I’d advise against it!

Fabulous place, can’t fault it. My room was beautiful and the bed linen and towels were top quality, all staff very friendly and welcoming/helpful.

Great place! Lovely to pop in here fir a pint or two after the Villa win. They do a smashing posh tea (you need to book). Staff are so friendly. It's big and can accommodate a lot of people. Little stage outside fir bands in the Summer. Love it!

They take a £6 cover charge to get in on a matchday.

Sadly my friends and I were meeting there yesterday for lunch. All three coming quite a distance. So we rang first to check it was open as usual. Yes, was the reply, but only serving food until 3pm as Match day.That's fine we were meeting just after 12. When we arrived we were met at the door and not allowed in as they had a film crew there. We explained we'd contacted earlier but he just said, no, we have a film crew here and won't be open until 2pm. The worst part is my friend who rang , is convinced the man who turned us away was the same person she spoke to on the phone. Very disappointing.

This place is super cool. It's got that boojey theme to it. Very well maintained considering they house customers frequently for villa home games. All things seems to be well maintained. It's a 7 min walk to villa park. Good all around access. They also do birthdays/wedding events. Parking is free which is a plus.

Check in lady was lovely, room was freezing she got us a mini heater which helped, comfortable bed, disappointed to be asked if we were getting our stuff from the room after having breakfast at 9am as they were in a hurry to do Xmas shopping, good bit over priced at £150 a room.

Amazing stay,staff were friendly and efficient

I stayed here for the night with my partner & 2 children in the family suite. The place was immaculate & the decor was just amazing. Everywhere you looked, there was something different that caught your eye. Beautifully put together & the story behind the renovation is incredible. Breakfast was included, very generous portions & did not disappoint.

Viewed for a family event, so didn't eat or use their facilities at the time of the viewing. The venue is impressive with an oldy-worldy feel about it. Several rooms and areas to use for the time of your booking, which includes an inside courtyard and side garden and a U-shaped main function room. Great for mingling, great little areas to sit and chat away from any music or the busy areas. A small room is available with a large table and suitable chairs, which is great to possibly use for older guests, children, or a reflective area if attending a wake, for example. Caterers will be supplied with hot water but not allowed to use the venue kitchen, even if they are from the Taverns approved list. Table & chair covers are available, with the chair bow in a vast amount of colours. (At a price). The venue appears to supply all your needs required to launch your event. The large function room holds 250 approx people (if memory serves me right). Has a small bar available, area for music / DJing, area for catering set up. It also looks out on both outside aspects. Then you have the larger bar area with Chesterfield Club Chair in Antique Oxblood Red Leather, striking image and lovely atmosphere. (Capacity unrecalled) looks out to the courtyard. Cons: Parking within the grounds is limited. Not sure how many cars can fit. Large enough for a coach, but of course, that will reduce car spaces. Possibly can park on the road out the front, after hours. Times of booking hours available: tbc Cost: tbc

This is a hidden gem tucked underneath the Aston Express Way. Beautifully decorated with original features still intact. Going back for afternoon tea.

Held an event here for my child's first birthday party, Michelle was extremely helpful and pleasant to deal with. Wouldn't hesitate to book another function here. Decor is extremely pleasant and we had plenty of positive comments from our guests.

I was invited to a lovely 60th party last Saturday, the decor is lovely but my experience was let down by the alcohol. I have been a Malibu drinker for many years, but that is not what i was served. It tasted like the cheap stuff from Aldi. # was not impressed.

Was pleasantly surprise by the interior. Pleasant informative helpful staff. Ladies toilets held a few surprises. Outdoor spacious facilities.

The pub decor is very unexpected considering how close it is to the football ground. The staff were very friendly and sandwiches were fresh and nicely presented. Don't be put off by the road works outside the pub it is still open. Unfortunately it was very quiet so little atmosphere but I'm sure at busier times it would be better. If you are in the area or passing by call in you'll be pleasantly surprised.

A lot of underutilised potentially, but it looks like a great place with ambience. The service is very poor, and the bar staff interrupted assisting me to have a chat and a giggle with each other, terrible attitude

Liked the pub and the beer garden was great but went before the Springsteen concert and couldn't get a drink because of the queue at the bar - why not open a bottles only bar in the garden. You'd think with all the Villa games they would have adapted strategies to cope. The food was good but expensive.

Rare pub garden in this inner urban area. Would be greatly improved if it offered real ale.

We stayed to attend a concert at Villa Park. From initial enquiry through to arrival, the level of service was superb. Michelle & her team, despite being swamped with hundreds of people all grabbing a beer pre-gig, were always there to make sure we were totally happy. The room was spotless. The brekfast was brilliant. Highly recommended!

Great place friendly staff great atmosphere 👌

We found this place searching for something close to Aston Villa stadium, it fit the bill perfectly location wise. What we didn’t expect to find was the kindest, most helpful people on the planet running it, beautifully done up rooms, immaculate cleanliness and a little slice of history. I stay in a lot of hotels, and service always makes your stay better. From the moment we made contact with this place it was a pleasure to talk to them. Forgot about not too much to ask, these guys are one step ahead and offering whatever they can to make your stay as good as possible. If you need to stay in the area, pick this place. They deserve your business and you couldn’t do any better.

Great atmosphere on a match day and a huge space with various bars to ensure queues aren't too big! Spent the day here for the last game of the season and had a blast!

Fantastic place to stay, the staff were all amazing and could not do enough for us. Only a 7 min walk from Villa Park, which was perfect as we were goingbto a game. The rooms were tastfully done out to a high Stamdard and the breakfasts were amazing. Thank you guys, would highly recommended 👌

Great atmosphere before and after villa games.

Stayed on Saturday 4th March having been to Villa hospitality.Was a gift for my Husbands 60th Birthday just to end the day in style.Would highly recommend as nothing was a trouble room was very nice clean and very spacious,Breakfast the following morning was delicious would definitely stay here again we would highly recommend.First class service.

My first time visiting here, £4 to get in on a match day But once you are in, the venue is amazing, decent selection of drinks and the staff are first class The secret is not to worry if the first bar is busy, you can walk into a courtyard then into another bar and then into a massive garden with more bars Nice sofa

Nice pub, but staff could do with learning a lot more about hospitality when you have problems with the room you booked instead of shouting and being aggressive to the point you have to vacate the property :)

Fantastic experience from arriving far to early but welcomed to wait in the very classy bar area and snug served with complimentary coffee and tea and even went out of there way to prepare our room 2 hours earlier for our convenience. Fantastic helpful staff wonderfull Victorian decor with a modern twist. Room was a very high standard with quality bedding and towels. Breakfast was five star served on a red hot plate and charming lady who catered to our every need. We will be definitely staying again make sure you book a long enough stay as you will want to stay another night.

We to a conference there the whole building was clean and well decorated, it was absolutely beautiful.

Can never get a drink on match days

Went there for my friend's kid's party. First the negative items - the venue doesn't have a lot of parking, so you may have to park in front of the church nearby. It's fine when there's no service, but it would be a problem when service is on. Positives - it's a lot bigger than it seems from the outside. Includes a lovely quadrant, which is lovely to sit in when the weather is nice. Also you can use your own caterers for your event there, which is a big plus. The staff were nice and helpful too. In all, I like the place and would recommend it.

Bonjour Je vis en France et je suis allé un week-end à Birmingham et j'ai logé dans cette superbe taverne, le personnel est très accueillant, très gentil. C'est un bel hôtel avec une très belle décoration. Le petit déjeuner est compris dans le prix de la chambre, un bon petit déj, bien copieux. Merci au personnel pour son accueil.

Amazing venue so friendly and warming, I had my cousin's bridal shower here, the decor is really nice, the owners are fantastic shout out to Michelle she went above and beyond for us can't thank you enough for all the effort you put in and real attention to detail everyone had an amazing time And last but not least we had an amazing chef Maxine she made us a 3 course Caribbean cuisine and it was the best Caribbean food we have ever tasted, good size portions of food she definitely put her heart in that food Overall the best experience and would definitely recommend you go and experience it for yourself you will not be disappointed

OMG what a fantastic renovated old traditional drinking/events/ weddings/funeral reception I was fascinated with all the 'old fashioned' decor amazing the new owner has done a brilliant job most of it himself,there's also a hotel upstairs.Will definitely be going there again.I'd recommend to anyone who likes retro & something you can't get anywhere else.Tjank you beautiful food as well yesterday.

Held my wedding venue here last July and it was absolutely amazing. The owners Michelle and Paul are the nicest people and go above and beyond. So many quests said it was one of the best wedding venues they have been to and we had the most amazing day and wouldn’t change a thing. So if your looking for a beautiful venue this really is the place . Thank you both you made our big day xx

Very old and tacky... Not a very clean establishment and would not recommend if you intend on staying in a nice warm environment. Staff were somewhat friendly until it was the day to check out... next time I would take my chances with the Premier Inn

A nice place with a difference, a wedding venue, baby shower parties or what every you want a party to be, situated in not the best of places, it's a place you would give a great deal of consideration, but you would sadly be let down by the lack of car parking that could be your final decision

I had originally booked pre covid for a hen in the private room and given a deposit in cash. Recently i had got in touch to see if we could have afternoon tea and use up the deposit which i had lost the receipt for. I got a quick response that they'd be happy to help and check their own records to make the deduction. We were a group of 14 adults & children and went yesterday. We had a beautiful room with our own log fire & absolutely exceptional service. The staff and owners were so friendly and the afternoon tea was by far the best we had ever had. Highly recommend!!!

Considering how near to the football ground it is, it was a beautiful place! Comfortable and of a good standard. You could film a Dr Who episode there!

£4 per person on match day to get in, you also get food with that but I can’t comment on the food as I didn’t have any. Beer is reasonably priced with a great atmosphere before the game.

Afternoon tea for a memorial gathering - Wonderful venue and the staff looked after everyone and helped round off a lovely family memorial service.

This place is lovely, It's the perfect place to have your wedding reception, the staff are great, friendly and pleasant.

Stayed over night with my partner as I had an exam in Birmingham, would definitely come again for a weekend away or to watch the football next time. Room size was really good! Shower was lovely and hot, and the room was spotless. The whoke place was lovely and clean. The staff are fantastic, so polite and attentive. Really wish I booked an extra night so I could have enjoyed some time at the bar and had some dinner as the menu looks great. Will definitely be returning.
