Visited xmas day,terrible service,food was cold,will never use again,they said they had changed chefs,and management wouldn't give them enough staff,they ruined our Xmas day

Disgusting inedible food. Waste of time & money, place was dead quiet (no surprise). Literally no customer service at all, took a while for our order to be took and just as long to take our dirty plates away. Bearing in mind there were only 4 tables of people. When we told the waitress the food wasn’t good she didn’t say anything not even an apology. Wasn’t asked if the food was okay whilst we was eating either because if they did we would have sent the food back to the kitchen. Did end up getting half off which was appreciated but considering I went to maccies after as I was starving isn’t something you set out to do when you book a meal. Won’t be going again which is a shame because it used to be really good.

Food was good, but service was dire. The staff members who served us were utterly miserable and had major attitude problems. She obviously made a mistake as when we asked if the sandwich could come with mac and cheese instead of chips she said yes. But after the looooong wait for food - chips came. When we spoke to the same young girl who served us she rolled her eyes and was just rude about it. The dirty plates were sat there for an hour and no one came back to see if we wanted more drinks. We used to come a lot and whilst the food is okay, the service is so poor I'd rather spend my money elsewhere.

We go here regular I always have garlic chicken I don't normally have complaints but was Luke warm today I told waitrss she apologised not her fault she didn't cook but I won't be back

This was our first visit here since the restaurant has been taken over by the same group who own another couple of local pubs. First of all the menu is a bit confusing. There is that much to choose from and it’s all a bit mixed up. Makes for a confusing choice. The food was pretty good. We had a range of dishes including Pie, Burgers, fish etc and was all tasty. The service left a lot to be desired. Young staff who didn’t really have a clue what they were doing. Long waits between food and we had to ask a couple of times for drinks. Looking at other reviews this seems to be the general issues.

We have been regulars here since Greencrab took over. Arrived at 7.45 this evening as website states food served till 8.30 pm. A few customers having drinks? Some chairs on tables not a member of staff to be seen. In the end one of the customers went to the kitchen to tell the staff we were there. A young girl came over, no attempt at an apology, and said the chef had decided to shut the kitchen as it was quiet. I questioned whether they could sort some food but was told no as the staff were doing a deep clean. We then left and on walking past the open doors to the kitchen there was no sign of any cleaning going on. If Greecrab visited tomorrow morning I suspect they would not find evidence of a deep clean. Having picked up a takeaway from round the corner we could see a number of tables in the beer garden were still covered in dirty glasses. Obviously the staff were too busy deep cleaning the kitchen to clear the tables. When the Astley first opened they were welcomed by many locals and were always busy, however poor management and service has led to the situation there tonight. We won’t be returning.

We arrived just before 5pm when they start serving evening meals, the place wasn't busy and we were the first people to place an order. The menu is supposed to be new ? It still doesn't explain what you are getting? It took over 40 minutes for our food to be served and the order was incomplete and not very warm. No one came over to our table to ask if everything was ok, other tables were being fussed over. As we were in the dog friendly area it seems they forgot about us or they knew our food wasn't as it should have been. We went to pay our bill 20 minutes after finishing our meal the dirty plates were still on the table, forgotten/ignored or what ? When we did complain about our experience we got an apology and some sweets. We have been to this pub a few times before but we won't be going again I'm sorry to say. You can't keep putting prices up and up when things are not up to standard. If this is new management , it needs better than we got.

Spur of the moment to eat out and ended up at The Astley at around 5.15 . Place not busy at all but offered a place in the dimly lit section. Brief conversation about the reason (reserved bookings after 6) but we were eventually seated where you can see. Ordered drinks and then food which arrived in a timely manner. Recommend the salmon and prawn salad which was really moist. Traditional fish and chips was also good although buttered bread could have been better prepared. Drink of larger was fine but diet coke not as good as previous. Overall service and food was good and will return again.

Have been to this restaurant a few times and have never been disappointed , and have recommended it to friends who also have been happy with the food and service. I'm making these points after having read a few negative reviews. Last time I came was with my family for my birthday. As always the food and service was very good . The only adverse comment I can make is that they always seem to serve a side salad with whatever you order , and this isn't always necessary. The portions have always been on the generous side, and we make sure we go hungry when we visit The Astley !!.Please don't let the bad reviews put you off. Give it a try !.

We decided to visit The Astley on the recommendation of a family friend and based on this experience, we won't be visiting again in a hurry... if ever.On arrival, we were greeted with a bar area where it felt like the heating hadn't been turned on - not exactly welcoming given that the weather outside was cold and wet on the day we visited.The menu had so many items on it that it was cluttered to the point of being over-facing and difficult to make a decision on what I wanted to eat. This goes hand in hand with my next point - the quality of the food.I decided to try the Reuben Burger and, unfortunately, I found it to be salty, fatty to the point where the bun was breaking up and the burger itself felt like poor quality meat. The onion rings that complimented it were bland and fatty. The only edible items were the chips. My stomach felt poorly due to the fattiness of the food and one of my parents felt ill as a result.In my opinion, I feel they need to slim down the menu and concentrate on a smaller range of quality items rather than trying to impress with a humongous menu.Given the location of this pub (within walking distance of Astley Park), it's a bit of a puzzle as to why the current policy is that no dogs are allowed within the pub itself. You'd think they would be welcoming of the trade from people who are walking their dogs and there's an area within the bar that would be ideal for visitors to visit with their canine companions.Another negative is the stall sitting in the middle of the restaurant selling sweets including large sugary lollies. Not exactly great if you're a parent who wants their kids to eat their meal and not a ringing endorsement on the quality of the menu.The only positive from our visit was the friendliness of the staff in front of house. I felt sorry for them in that they must have been freezing due to the lack of heating.All in all, a very disappointing visit and somewhere we won't be visiting in a hurry or rushing to recommend to friends.

Called in on Friday afternoon with a friend for a coffee. The coffee and the service was fab. However, a group of men stood to the side of the bar were so Loud and obnoxious. Every other word was a f%%% this or f%%% that. The young girls behind the bar are either oblivious to it or felt unable to challenge.This is a really nice restaurant and family venue with great potential. Please don’t allow it be spoilt by Neanderthal types swilling beer and using offensive language!

Recently had a meal at The Ashley and can definitely say the service and food is excellent. However, it’s seems a number of regular drinkers around the bar area can be a little choice with their language. One in particular was quite loud, thankfully he didn’t stay long otherwise would have left.If you are going to offer a family friendly environment then you will have to be a lot stricter on your clientele!

Pleasently surprised. Lot of children but that was a family party. Nice friendly staff, nice real ale, reasonably priced. We had Salmon and a steak was very well cooked. My ribeye was fantastic. Well done Astley

Weny for lunch as a treat for my sister on her birthday.Was quiet but the weather was awful so probably put people off.After reading the reviews i was expecting big things, however I found it to be really just very average.The burger wasn't cooked enough for me. Personal preference !No one came to ask if everything was ok until we had finished.The staff were too busy talking loudly about working or not working christmas day! There was no atmosphere in the bar area. Music very quiet, all you could hear was the staff talking. Disappointing visit Im afraid.

The Astley is beginning to make good vibes in the pub food trade with their excellent food and portion sized meals. Our choices tosay were Chippy style fish and chips with mushy peas plus prawn sandwich and salad . The service was perfect, the food we ordered was well presented and certainly tasty anx easily met our needs; great portions. Good drinks selection. There is ample seating on various levels plus an outside area that gives even more space.

I have been here a few times now, on different occasions. The staff are very polite and friendly. The service is efficient. I have booked a table, and more recently we dropped in for an impromptu lunch. The staff cant do enough for you. the food is amazing. I haven not been disappointed yet. The hygiene is very high standard. The portions sizes of the food - well no one can complain because if you cant finish your meal, you can always get it boxed up and take it home. I will be coming back here regularly. Definitely worth a try and the prices are more than fair.

So glad we decided to try the food here, it's fantastic! The staff are really polite and friendly. We'll definitely be coming back.

Having recently moved to the area we have been waiting for an occasion to try this very smart looking pub and restaurant. My birthday provided that opportunity and what a success. The food was stunning, service calm and methodical with fantastic attention to detail and the atmosphere a joy to experience. My gammon steak was the best I have ever eaten, so much meat and the sweet chilli glaze gave it an extra layer that did it no harm at all! Cannot wait to go back!

I visited the Astley with my husband to celebrate our anniversary. We booked a little last minute but we usually find that they make every effort to fit people in.We were both impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered the cajun style chicken which came with bread, chips and salad. The only small issue with the meal was that the bread was stale, the rest was delicious. My husband ordered the lasagne which he enjoyed, there was so much food he couldn't finish it but thought it was lovely. We couldn't manage a dessert but there are lots of desserts to choose from, including a nice selection of cheese cakes. We will definitely be returning!

This restaurant is brilliant. Everyone of the staff had smiles, excellent service. On entering we were welcomed by a lovely young lady. We explained we were just having a drink, she gave us a menu just in case, we looked over this.It was near lunch time and we realised they did sandwiches as well as the normal menu, so decided to stay. The food was excellent, beautifully prepared, side salad, coleslaw, sauces and a choice of chips or crisps.Unfortunately I couldn't finish all mine, there was so much. The restaurant was lovely and clean with a great outside space. I would highly recommend. A beautiful lunch time.

Went for a lovely walk in Astley Park and then called for brunch. I had pancakes. Absolutely delicious and plenty of them. Hubbie had full english. Not often I hear him say tooooo much but lovely. Good service. Lovely staff. Im sure we will be back to try more food.

We found out about this place after meeting a lady in a&e. So we decided to call for tea. The sevice is very good . Staff very friendly .food was served very quick . We will return

Walked in after a long walk for a cheeky drink to be greeted with amazing manners from the staff and extremely fast service and I’ll add with a smile from every member of staff, very helpful and thoughtful and I didn’t order any of the food that they serve but I saw it coming out of the kitchen looking stunning and also at an amazing pace.I would recommend this beautiful place to anyone 100% and the good news for people reading this is the prices ain’t too bad either, cheap and cheerful, so come on down guys ... I will definitely be revisiting :)

Well if it’s a full plate of good food then this place is for you have say it was just a bit to much for me and my wife ( could do with a smaller bites menu ) but the service and food was fantastic will definitely be trying again maybe the Sunday Carvery but all in all a great experience thank you

We called in on a Thursday night at 8.10pm only to be told that food finishes at 8pm. Closing at 8pm for food in 2019 ? Sorry but i wont bother returning.

We went as we had heard a lot of people say how good it was but from start to finish it was rubbish, from forgetting one of our drinks, getting salad on our burger when asked for none, taking it away and just scraping it off, lack of chilli on said burger and then when we had finished sitting waiting for someone to come take our plates away for 15 mins and just giving up and going to the bar to pay bill. Just a terrible experience.

Have visited a few times in June, very accommodating staff and excellent value for money. Monstrously big menu and surprisingly the dishes we've had seemed freshly made rather than just microwaved. The Sunday carvery is excellent, if a tad odd having Chinese chicken with roast beef and gravy.

Tried The Astley today and was very impressed. Very friendly staff, fantastic menu and considering the quality of the food we ordered, very good value for money. We tried the haddock with Parmesan sauce, bubble and squeak and a poached egg.It was amazing. Beautifully presented and fresh and tasty.My friend had the lemon meringue pie and it was delicious. Well worth a try.

Taken out for lunch by son and daughter in law, treat for Father’s Day.Pre booked so seated very quickly, drinks served very quickly.All had the carvery option on this occasion, great selection of meats you could have a piece of each or basically what you wanted. Also numerous sides to select from, really as much of what you want. Excellent value for £8.95 each.Service was very good even though it was very busy.Will go again and try something from the main menu as we have had good reports about the food.Would recommend a visit.

Our family group of 14 went to The Astley on Friday evening for my sons 40th birthday meal. The service and food were both to a very high standard. Our Orders were taken and only a few minutes later our food arrived. We all had different starters amd mains but none of us were kept waiting. Portion sizes were enormous and all the food was tasty and hot.The staff were all lovely too and couldn't do enough for us -especially our waiteress -unfortunately I didnt get her name but she was really cheerful bubbly and helpful.The only downside we felt was the ambience of the room - it was large with wooden garden type tables and chairs and had a 'canteen' feel. However this did not spoil a most enjoyable evening with good food and great staff. Will definitely go again - keep up the good work at The Astley and thanks for a lovely evening

First visit here with a group of friends. What can I say, the food was amazing . We where in a big party and every single person loves their food. We had steaks , burgers and fish . The portions are huge and the presentation of the food was excellent. The best part was the taste. Well done to the chefs here. This has got to be the best pub food around . Highly recommend a visit here. Staff are very nice and friendly.

Went for a lovely meal on Tuesday the food was great - huge portions! I had the burger which came with onion rings which were fab! Friends got the steak pie, chicken burger, curry amongst others the fajitas came out sizzling away and looked great - we will definitely be back - great food at fab prices!

We decided to give the Astley a try after having passed it several times and noticed it seemed very popular. We weren't disappointed at all. The food and the portions are amazing and the service is fantastic. The food is very fresh and is presented in such a way you feel as if you are being presented with restaurant food. The staff are always very attentive and very hepful. On our last visit we were lucky enough to be served by jenny who was a delight ! Nothing was too much trouble and the attention she paid to a blind customer and her care and attention to detail to ensure he was welcome and comfortable was a breath of fresh air to witness. We look forward to our next visit very soon !

We booked a table here to celebrate a friends birthday. As it was a Sunday and the Sunday carvery is extremely popular I was glad I had made a reservation as the place was very busy indeed. We were seated and drinks order taken immediately, and when the waitress came to take our order for food we weren't quite ready. This was not a problem and she went away and came back as soon as I indicated we were ready to order. Which when you considered how busy they were it was very impressive. The food was of a superb standard. We ate from the menu and not the carvery. The service was fantastic and the staff were extremely polite, professional and efficient. The one and only negative I have is that there were dogs in an area of the restaurant, and although they were not near our table they kept barking which was quite irritating. We did not complain however, we all agreed dogs in an eating establishment could put us off in the future. We will be back I have made another booking for the end of the month so prepared to overlook the dogs in the hope that it was just a one off for whatever reason.

My friends and I meet up once a month at different venues. Turn up without a booking, The staff happily found a table for us. Food was amazing, good portions! Will be back for dessert!

Well worth the visit! The menu is extensive covering everybody’s possible requirements. Prices are worth studying as they seem a bit ‘mixed’ but the quantities and quality are excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful. Book if you plan to visit at the weekend.

Had a walk through Astley Park today and didn’t think we would be allowed to dine at here as we had a dog. We certainly was wrong welcomed with very friendly staff and told we could sit in or out in certain areas. We sat outside and had two carverys. The food was delicious, so much choice and fresh. The staff were so lovely and helpful. We will be back very soon.

Staff friendly. Had to wait a little for drinks, food portions huge and piping hot. Lots of choice. Will certainly go again.

Lovely place, great service, amazing food and good size portions certainly don’t leave hungry! A lovely variety of unusual puddings.

Not been out as a family for some time with work commitments so myself and my partner said we would try the Astley.Looked at Facebook reviews which were great.So we agreed to go!.Upon arrival the staff were pleasant. Drinks came within no time at all.Got the Nachos starter with Chilli beef.The Chilli was stone cold,Which I asked the waitress if the chilli was meant to be cold as I didn’t want to cause a fuss..She didn’t no if it was meant to be hot or cold..and to me chilli should be hot along with melted cheese which wasn’t melted at all.So we sent that back and asked for a replacement..the replacement took some time to come back but was ok?.My partner got a Mexican chilli Main,and the children all got burgers which want the best at all.Myself I got a Chicken and Bacon Salad..which came and looked really nice..until I bit into my chicken which was raw..Half the chicken was cooked and a lot was raw but because I bit into a raw price it put me compleatly off.The waitress agreed it was raw and offered a replacement,which I refused and didn’t want anything else.She came over shortly after to apologise and said the chef had agreed the chicken was raw and said there was a trainee in with him today.I’m sorry but trainee or not chicken should be thoroughly cooked.Hopefully I don’t get sick from it.Overall the meals and drinks cost £78.00 which I feel is really overpriced and the food isn’t great at all.We will not be returning anytime soon.
