Nice food, loved the avocado on toast. However I felt like the place is too cramped and it accommodates more people than it can.

Vegan breakfast not listed, just avocado on toast. They helpfully put this together and my partner enjoyed the veggie listed meal. Both were so amazing in flavour and fresh. Door stopper toast was great. Quirky additions such as hand knitted tea cosies. Warm, great atmosphere, quality food at a bargain of £7.95 each. Good range of plant based milks. Quick service on a busy Saturday over Christmas. Good selection of vegan cake but we were too full to try. Will return well done all. Just update the menu listings as you need to shout that you do this meal.

I have visited The Artisan a couple of times now, once for breakfast and once for cake. The best part of my experience has always been the strength and quality of the coffee (delicious), closely followed by the cosy decor and friendly staff. I'd highly recommend visiting The Artisan to try their coffee and cake and to chat to the lovely staff. My favourite café in Hull!

I have been to The Artisan several times over the years and always leave with a smile on my face. The coffee is some of the very best in the city and the selection of cakes available is always incredibly impressive. I've had delicious breakfasts, lunches and treats at The Artisan, but what makes every visit for me is the friendly, welcoming staff who are always ready to make you feel at home. Having had a look through some recent reviews, it saddens me that people seem to be placing blame on the cafe for problems that were perhaps caused by themselves eg, not disclosing their allergies when explicitly asked. This is not at all a reflection of this lovely little cafe that serves Newland Avenue and the city so well. The cafe's emphasis on Hull's local artists is something I always find particularly moving, and the team truly are an asset to the city. Can't wait for my next visit!

I have just read the vitreol ic review by Kizikaz. My days, you really are unhappy with your recent visit for afternoon tea! We have paid several visits to Artizan because we find it to be unique, cosy and interesting. However, I must say that I have always found the staff to be impersonal - a feat in itself for such a small space, but they do manage to be cool and distant nevertheless. Having said that, it hasn't stopped us from returning for coffee and the ocassional bite to eat.

At £30 for two people I cannot express how extremely disappointed I was with the Afternoon Tea that was presented to my daughter and I this afternoon (Friday 20th Sept) at 1pm. First disappointment was to be offered a choice of refillable tea but should we choose to have coffee, then we could only have one cup of our choice off the main menu!! Not even the offer of a refill basic black filter or Americano coffee. I asked if there was a cafeteria as an option (at least that would be two cups at a push) but the girl said no they don’t do them. This is the first time I have had a restricted afternoon tea coffee option. Neither my daughter nor I drink tea. This in my experience is totally unheard of with afternoon tea.Our choice of Coffee Latte arrived. Mine was luke warm and not strong enough for my taste. My daughter did say hers was hot and that she had in fact burned her tongue. Then two small three tier plate stands arrived and still managed to look quite sparse. There was no explanation from the staff as to what was in the finger sandwiches, nor what the three extremely miniature desserts were. We started on the bottom tier. This was 4, 1” x 4” finger sandwiches made from the equivalent of 2 slices of bread, one white slice and one brown slice. As we started to eat it became clear the bread was extremely dry and with no butter on the bread and the filling was practically non-existent.I ended up taking one side of bread off each finger sandwich which came away without even showing any signs of ever having been part of a sandwich as there was nothing on the bread to indicate it had ever had anything on it or hold it together to be part of a sandwich. The cream cheese was spread thinner than you would even spread butter and the three pieces of thinly sliced cucumber were transparent. The cheap thin single slice of rubber ham (which has never been part of any pig) was tasteless and not even worth putting on top of one slice of bread let alone between two slices of bread. The chicken it turns out was drowning in (my daughter thinks) Cajun spice and therefore after one small nibble to test what it actually was on the chicken, was inedible to me as I am allergic to chilli. My daughter was asked about allergies when she rang to book the afternoon tea but did not think to mention it as she (nor I and probably endless other diners) would not have expected to have Cajun spice chicken in an afternoon tea sandwich!?!? The cheese & pickle was the only decent filling on the plate. I therefore added one side of the cheese & pickle to one side of the ‘ham’ to make one finger sandwich. I then folded one side of the ‘cream cheese’ & cucumber finger sandwich in half to make half a finger sandwich. The Cajun chicken finger sandwich which was totally unexpected to us in an afternoon tea, I had to leave because of my chilli allergy. I therefore ended up with one finger sandwich measuring around 1” x 4” and one measuring around 1” x 2”, extremely disappointing to say the least. The remaining single sides of the dry bread and the Cajun chicken finger sandwich I left on the plate.Next was the middle tier. The scone came with two pots, one of jam and one of solid cream but again, no butter. I chose not to eat the cream (not quite liking the strange dark yellow colour of the cream) and therefore went to the counter to ask for some butter which I used along with the jam on the scone. The scone was most enjoyable. The solid yellow cream I left on the plate. And now for the top and final tier. Having no idea what the three dessert options were I decided to start with the 1” cube of something with a crunch and a chunk of pink rubber something or other inside. Not knowing what the chunk of pink rubber was I removed it from the crunchy bit and took a nibble. I still have no idea what it was and decided to leave it on the plate. I ate the 1” cube of sweet crunchy stuff still not knowing what it was that I ate!?!? As I am not a fan of (what looked like) chocolate brownie so, I left the 1” cube along with leaving the slim slithering slice of (again what looked like) Victoria sponge. These I left on the plate.During our visit a member of staff came over and standing behind me but facing my daughter she asked her if everything was ok to which my daughter just said “yes thank you”. The staff member did not look in my direction. My daughter knew of my disappointment and left the table and unbeknown to me went over and paid at the counter the £30 in full on her debit card. I actually feel physically sick at the thought of her paying out that kind of money for the afternoon tea we were presented with.We came to Hull to visit you after reading your reviews and left feeling wholly let down by the reviews and the afternoon tea presented to us. I do not think the quality and quantity made up of 1 cup of coffee, the equivalent of two slices of bread (even if I had eaten all four finger sandwiches as they were originally presented to us), a jam scone and two cubes & one slither of dessert we were served justified the £30 we paid. We would have been better off buying a cup of coffee, a sandwich and cake separately and no doubt paid a lot less. I have had several other afternoon teas of better quality & value and although I do not choose based on the price to pay, most have been half the price my daughter paid today, much better value and never disappointing. With hind sight and a re-read of some of the reviews, maybe I should have taken a picture as I do now wonder if what we were served was somehow different from what your other reviewers have been served. But as I was so underwhelmed by what was put in front of me, I didn’t think it justified a photo to be shown to the world. My daughter who has been left feeling embarrassed by her choice to come to you has no comment whatsoever to make regarding the experience to which I feel deeply upset as it was her treat to me. Your venue and setting is quaint and appealing. Sadly the afternoon tea and value for money is neither. And furthermore, I could never recommend you to family or friends based on our visit and to enable me to write this review I must give you a star but would not have otherwise given you even one star at all. Turns out my daughter did take a picture and if I am able to retrieve a copy from her, I will post the picture of our serving as a comparison to others.

Visited here with my daughter for lunch yesterday. Not very big inside, but cosy and clean, with all sorts of pictures and books to look at, as well as lots of items you can buy, such as jewellery, mirrors, wind chimes etc. The hot/cold drinks selection is probably bigger than the food selection, but there's a nice choice nonetheless. We had a cheese toastie each and a huge pot of tea to share, that we managed to get three cups each out of! Loved the tea cosy too!. The toasties came with tortilla chips and side salad. Big doorstep slices of lovely bread and the cheese was very nice too. There's a really good choice of cakes, all home made. We had a chocolate flapjack and a scone with clotted cream and jam, which were both to die for. Very reasonable prices, great portion sizes, very friendly polite staff and we will definitely be returning soon.

Came for lunch and as it was very busy downstairs we sat in the lovely upstairs room which was empty. Ordered toasties, a milkshake and a hot chocolate which were all very nice and so filling - I've never seen such thickly sliced doorstop bread. Lots of local gifts and artwork to look at the vibe is quirky and relaxing with mismatched and comfy furniture. Will return to try more off the hot chocolate menu!

This place is one of my favourite coffee shops in the whole of Hull. The coffee is amazing and it’s accompanied by a complimentary biscuit. The food is also lovely, I always go for the cheesy rarebit as the thick whole meal toast and cheese and relish is always a winner. The cakes they have look and taste amazing.I have been here a fair few times and have never been disappointed. The service, the product and value for money is fantastic.I will defiantly be returning.

Popped in for a break, in between shopping and had a lunch, food and drink. In addition, we wanted to see if things have improved, on the times food in which fiid starts and stops, which always seems dependant on if there's a chef on or not, to make a toastie! It happens on this occasion, we could get food in an early afternoon and what we wanted, although items were still missing from what we ordered. The ladies serving are very pleasant, nice and obliging however, the place still seems disorganised. They still forget items, confuse orders and the price for the same items, is never the same for example, each time out of four visits the price differed for the same order. The venue has a nice atmosphere though, warm, cosy, tables a tad small, and there is still a fault on the front doors, they never close properly and it sticks, people never close it, so at times in winter you can freeze a little. Get a joiner in, a self closing mechanism needs fitting to the door, or just that the door closes when you shut it. Toilets are on the other hand extremely clean, it's a nice experience, nyst some tweaks needed still since the d days of English Mews. Staff great, better order system needed, and a checklist to make sure you get, what you order and stick to set times for food and stock up, so one can always get a toastie.

I have been here many times as I like the drinks selection, drinks are always nice and there is often something different to try, however after trying various cakes and scones each and every time they have been dry. My friend wanted to go for afternoon tea, which was appalling, the sandwiches barely had any filling and the fillings were cheap and somewhat tasteless, the cakes again dry. All in all, a nice little place with nice staff and drinks, but I wouldn’t bother with some of the cakes, maybe a cheesecake I’ve never tried these so they may be nice.

As weekend visitors to Hull, and with business to do on Newland Avenue, we saw this place in passing and decided to pop in for lunch. The ambience is nice, and we chose wraps/toasted sandwiches which were delicious, full of filling, upon fresh granary bread. The teas and coffees could also not be faulted. We were served with courtesy, and would not hesitate to return.

First impressions were quaint, independent and what a lovely menu. However, Friday afternoon, service was slow at the till (I did feel invisible even though 2 people were behind the counter), We shared a pot of tea for two and each had cake. I must say the cake selection looked magnificent! However, my pink velvet cake was very much on the dry side. I couldn't decide if it was a couple of days old or baked a bit too long. It didn't have the wow factor and my friends chocolate brownie square was difficult to cut and eat as so hard. Maybe an off-day? So would give it another try as the menu is interesting and prices mean good value. However, the toilet room is very dirty and in desperate need of a proper clean and there wasn't any soap. Theseating room upstairs looked nice, especially for bigger parties but please give the loo area a big spring clean....?

Visit regular for breakfast or lunch. Nice venue however, at times have run out of food required or close the food early, especially on a Saturday.Prices fluctuate, never been charged the same price twice for same items.Love the teacakes, toastie and soup deals and cakes lovely too. The staff are friendly, and waiting time not to bad if wanting the basics.Like sitting downstairs or outside in summer, not keep on upper floor doesn't have the vibe!Would love to see the ploughman's lunch come back as that was delicious.Pricey place and works out expensive in comparison to Zoo cafe across the road which works out half price for same orders.Overall, toilets are clean, and the venue is pleasant for afternoon tea!Give it a go!

The Artisan Coffee and Art Cafe is a delightful cafe. It is very vegan friendly, offering a fantastic amount of selections for the lactose intolerant and compassionate. It was wonderful to have more than one selection (and that is not me whining, this is me being completely grateful). I don’t expect the world to go dairy free because I can’t have it, it is just so nice to come across a gem like this place. The cafe has two floors, and outdoor seating. The upstairs seating area has a fireplace and wonderful bookshelf full of books. The look and feel inside is very eclectic. The mismatched furnishings and cups and saucers really bring everything together. The bathroom has post cards on the wall that are close to 100 years old. I loved seeing and reading them. It’s such a comfortable place to be. They offer WiFi and a gorgeous selection of local art for sale. They showcase some really talented local artists. The chocolate chip cake is wonderful. We also had hot chocolates. The service was fantastic, very friendly and helpful. We are so happy to have The Artisan Coffee and Art Cafe close by. Thank you so much for all the wonderful dairy free selections!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️Check out The Artisan Coffee and Art Cafe.
