The Artichoke in Three Rivers

Visited the artichoke twice now. Both times, food has been great quality and a lovely atmosphere. However the service has let it down. We waited ages to be served, once we did get served, waited 20 minutes for food to come and another 20 minutes after for our drinks.

Service is so slow and disorganised with priority towards food and it makes you feel unwelcome if you just want drinks. If we had been offered menus we might have had a snack.

Family celebration meal. All the food was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful. Overall very very nice

I was very disappointed in my food it was rather tasteless. I had risotto and for a small plate was too big a portion. But the staff were lovely. Very helpful I was with two elderly ladies and the young man who served us was polite and could not have done more for us .

Amazing experience. 👍🥂🍾 Dog friendly establishment with plenty of water and treats for our furry family member The food was delicious, and the staff waitresses were amazing, making us feel so comfortable and even singing along with us with the great 70’s music that was being played in the background. We will definitely be going back to the Artichoke for more wonderful food and a great friendly atmosphere

Regrettably never got to dine at The Artichoke. Was looking to book a table for Sunday lunch to entertain visiting family, but was unable to book a table of 7 online. I filled out their online enquiry form as requested twice, but no response from them. Then tried calling and leaving a message, again twice but to no avail. We have now booked our lunch at a different restaurant.

Great meal and our dog was given a plate of her own dog treats!!!

I have a love and hate relationship with The Artichoke. Their beers [Atlantic Pale Ale & Peroni], service from their amazing staff is faultless. It's their food that has gone up and down over the years, filling served in a dish with pastry on top does not constitute a 'pie', neither does dry and chewy beef for Sunday roast, their food use to be really good! However, still a lovely place to spend a summer afternoon or a cosy winter evening in front of their fireplace.

A great local in Croxley green. Plenty of good food options for vegetarians and the service is fantastic.

Dog friendly pub which is lovely. We found the menu quite strange. A few pub normals like sausage and mash...which is great but I like to order something I wouldn't have at home when I go out to eat. Unfortunately I found this challenging. The main meal options all seemed to have an oriental twist to them. I decided to order a chicken dish but it was sold out. The waitress said everyone seemed to order it...which says to me the menu needs tweaking. I ended up choosing the duck salad. The duck seemed very processed and was swimming in hoi sin type sauce. It was disappointing. Aperal spritz was not consistent..first one had way to much soda...2nd to much aperol and hardly any prosecco. Not the best visit. On a plus note the banofee desert was amazing and the staff are lovely to.

Terrible service today at lunchtime after half an hour wait still no drinks people arrived after us getting served quicker! In the end walked out. This place used to have great service gone downhill massively!

We had funeral reception here and they had no problem providing a gluten free menu.

Nice food and good beer selection. Table service rather than ordering at the bar was a bit shambolic. Made for a good impromptu game of 'how long will this order take'. Staff were great though 👍

Lunch on Sunday, roast beef was perfect, chicken burge also very good. Roast lamb not so much. I felt I had all the last sinewy bits of lamb that were left. Such a disappointing lunch. My fiesr Roast dinner since christmas

Got it completely wrong in regards to service. Unable to get a drink for 40 min due to table service only. It's a pub that does food. Ordered food with the drinks order no food and no drinks. Other tables had the same problem.

This evening, I had an amazing dining experience at The Artichoke in Croxley, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! From the moment we arrived, the manager, Juraj, went above and beyond to make our evening special. Despite needing a last-minute table, he managed to accommodate us with a warm and welcoming attitude. The food was absolutely mouthwatering. We indulged in a delicious pie and a juicy burger, both of which were cooked to perfection. The flavors were rich and satisfying, leaving us craving more even after we were full. To top it all off, The Artichoke had generous cocktails on offer, making our evening not only delightful but also a great bargain. The cocktails were expertly crafted, adding an extra touch of enjoyment to our meal. Overall, our experience at The Artichoke was exceptional. The attentive service, delectable food, and fantastic drinks made for an unforgettable evening. We would highly recommend this gem to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience in Croxley. The Snug is a really lovely place for a group.

Not sure what went wrong with this charming pub yesterday. Have not visited in a while but Mrs & I thought we'd have a drink & some food out in the pub garden, being a sunny day. After about an hour...no sign of our buffalo cauliflower starter, Caesar salad & Loaded Mac & cheese so decided to leave & go elsewhere after asking for a refund. It was busy but non of the staff communicated that there would be a delay after I ordered & paid, or came back after 15 minutes to update us. A manager came by & we had to stop him & enquire what was going on after 55 minutes or so. We aren't talking fine dining here, it's a pub so food should be relatively quick. Naturally very disappointed.

Been to the artichoke several times to eat and the foods always been good unfortunately on this occasion the fish was overcooked as were the chips

I took my family here to celebrate Father’s Day and was very disappointed. The roast potato’s were rock hard, the beef was chewy and gravy Luke warm. My son’s steak order was wrong and the steak was on top of the chips which made them soggy.

We had a wonderful evening celebrating our friends 60th birthday last night at the Artichoke. There were approximately 30 of us & we couldn’t fault a thing. The service was exceptional from everyone but unfortunately I only got Sophie’s name who was simply amazing getting everyone’s orders to them quickly( no mean feat when we kept moving around…apologies for that!) For those of us that ate, the food was perfect. All the staff were incredibly patient with us all & we all cannot thankyou enough for help making it a perfect evening for our friend. I just apologise for not getting everyone’s names. Well done & keep up the excellent work.

Great service and food. There for a private party in the tent out the back. Can't really comment on the pub atmosphere as was with friends in the marquee, but food and service was spot on. Thanks for looking after us so well.

I’d give 5 stars to this place, but staff eww.. I mean we arrive at 21:20 and the waitress said kitchen is closed before saying hello.. come on.. The pub is great, and the garden is very cosy..

The service has always let us down here and we’ve tried sitting in both the tent and the restaurant to see if it makes a difference. We’ve held off coming for a while and tried again today to see if anything had changed but left very disappointed. Our starters and mains came out super quick (and were delicious) but then nobody came back to check on us and half an hour after finishing our mains we had to find someone to take our plates away. We were offered dessert menus but nobody came back to give them to us and we then waited another half an hour before we got up and found someone to get us the bill instead. The table next to us was seated as our mains arrived and managed to order, eat their starters, finished their mains and got dessert menus before we were served again. Seems to be the same situation every time we visit which is a shame as the food is always delicious.

been here now 5 times but wanted to leave until now to leave a review as i wanted to be sure. one word excellent every time i have been the waiting staff have always been incredible and the atmosphere very warming and comfortable, that comfortable i even asked my partner Helens father for his permission to marry her. but if your eating here an absolute must is the chilli burger or the fish its first class that good it can even lead to marriage

Busy pub but comfortable dinner stop for friends. Food & service great. Good value.

Really like this pub. Great atmosphere, very cosy inside, tastefully decorated and clean. Decent cider on tap. Menu looks great, coming back for food as soon as possible. Dog friendly. Clean toilets.

We went for dinner last night and can’t commend the bar and restaurant staff enough. Very attentive to our needs and the food was excellent. I had a chicken katsu burger which was delicious and if I was the restaurant I would serve a small pot of curry sauce with it to pour over the burger to really make it outstanding. Overall a wonderful night. Thank you.

The food was great but really let down by the service. All the servers seemed to be school leavers (or of that age) and had no idea what they were doing which is understandable as for most it was probably an evening/weekend job/their first job, it's for the management to provide full and proper training which clearly wasn't the case. We were stood by the bar, ignored by the staff for 10 mins before someone actually asked if we had a booking and then a further 10 mins wait while they got our table ready. The "kids" did the best they could but when you are paying £40+ per head for your meal you'd expect better and not have to direct the staff.. "Can we have some side plates please, can we have some sauces please, can you take these empty plates please, can we order drinks please...." I hope the management take note and provide their staff with the training they need as it's a lovely place with great food. We will give it another go in a few months to see if things have improved, if not, then we won't be going back (which I hope is not the case).

Great food, let down by average service and they serve cheap cola on tap and claim it is Coca-Cola.... very poor. Served some weird concoction, which they said was Pino Grigio Blush. Certainly was not! But expensive for this type of experience.

We stopped here for a bite to eat in the early evening. Quick and friendly service, tasty food and a nice atmosphere. Would recommend, and will probably come back again if we're in the area

We had another meal last night here, service great, main courses good but how can a CHEF send out a bit of custard in the bottom of a glass, a couple of pieces of fruit, more custard then cream on top with a shop bought sponge finger sticking out of the cream AND CALL IT TRIFLE, ingredients nearly correct but I would be embarrassed to send that out of my kitchen and they should be, we informed the staff of our dissatisfaction, hopefully it will be better another time

Me and my mum visited today and we were incredibly disappointed. We have been to this pub a handful of times before and we’ve always had a great time but today was the opposite. I understand that it’s Sunday and it would be busy but from the second we walked in we felt so unwelcome. We were left standing by the door for a while with staff just walking past us and ignoring us, at this point I wish we had just left and gone somewhere else. We then ordered drinks (coke and lemonade) which honestly tasted like fizzy water! And to top things off the staff were unfriendly and this experience has really put us off and made us feel reluctant to visit again!

We recently had a work party for 12, we opted for the Christmas menu and I must say from the moment we walked through the door to finishing our deserts was a complete joy. The staff are super attentive and are there when you need them so never too in your face. The food was top notch and the atmosphere was bang on for a beautiful old pub on a village green super festive and perfectly lit! I have had lunch here before and the burgers are first class would definitely recommend if you are passing or local. Big shout out to the manager nothing was too much for him, great service, great food.

This has to be a favorite place to eat. Friendly, welcoming and excellent food. Never disappointed.

Came for dinner. Fish n chips mediocre, 4cheese Mac cheese mediocre. Bangers and mash mediocre. Was nice enough but won't be in a rush to come back unless someone tells me I ordered all the wrong things.

Good food consistently but the interior layout is a bit crowded and furniture dated.

Lovely pub with a large menu and very cosy interior. My friend and i rocked up without booking on a Saturday lunch with out two kids and were happily accommodated. Staff were helpful and friendly and the food very tasty. Higher end pricing, but then nothing is cheap anymore if you want quality food.

Christmas book club, table for 9, great nook reserved for our party great selection off the menu, did not need to book in advance. Lovely atmosphere, Christmas crackers on the table would have been nice. Room and pub beautifully decorated.

What a great little place! Amazing food, service and atmosphere. We went on a Sunday late afternoon and we hadn’t booked so they only had availability inside the tent area. I was a little apprehensive thinking it would be cold but the tent was lovely, warm and cosy. We ordered the Mac and cheese, cheese and bacon loaded fries and I ordered the chicken roast. Apart from the gravy being a little under seasoned (to my taste- everyone is different), the roast was delicious! The price was reasonable for a roast and the service was great too. Highly recommend. We will certainly be back.

Had a wonderful lunch here. The food was tasty and well presented. Reasonably priced. Nice olde worlde pub/restaurant. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. If I had to be picky, the only down side was the lack of space to park in the car park. Would definitely go back though.

The lamb roast was a let down. Lamb was undercooked and very chewy, and the roast although delicious were very hard.

Nice venue and although the staff are friendly, in my opinion the pub is not able to cope with the number of customers. The service was slow, we had to pre-order but due to poor organisation we were left waiting for our food that wasn’t as nice as we’d experienced in the past.

We had our wedding at the Artichoke at the beginning of September and we couldn’t have wished for it to go any better. We had 90 people for a sit down 3 course meal - everyone commented how amazing the food was. The team were brilliant from the service during the meal to the evening reception ensuring everyone always had a drink. The venue was just perfect and they went to so much effort to create exactly what we wanted. We had the best wedding ever and wouldn’t change a thing!

Everything about here is amazing! Food is absolutely incredible, my boyfriend had fish and chips. It was the softest fish I have ever tasted, so so yummy. I also ordered mint lemonade and they looked for the mint for me. 10/10

Service should be - 10 stars rude staff expensive and pubic hair in food which was good gave in extra flavour . Unfortunately didn’t put salt in my coke which was a shame. Lemonade tasted like sperm (which I recommend very nice )

The service was great I just wish there were more vegetarian options. We had the mushroom soup, wish it was warmer and came with nicer bread. Had a salad which was a nice option and some Mac and cheese that was £11 but the size of a butter dish. £55 for 2 soups salad and some fries and a Mac n cheese so quite ridiculous

We went as a small group last week. Given the price, I found the food was not great. For example the risotto was mushy and tasteless.

A local friend invited us to this place. The food and atmosphere was excellent . I'd recommend The Artichoke to couples and families with children. There is something for everyone to enjoy !

Came here for lunch - had the Kajun Chicken Burger, absolutely the best chicken burger I've ever tasted. Full of flavour and extremely well presented and made. Very good service and polite, helpful staff. Sat in the outside "tent" area, very nice atmosphere and an enjoyable experience.

Came here for the first time last week with my boyfriend for a date night. We were a little early so we sat in the bar and had a drink and I loved the decor and the atmosphere. All the staff were very professional and kind. We had a nice little table in a more secluded spot so it felt nice and private. I think our waitress may have been new, but she was super sweet and did a great job! I had the ham, egg and chips and it honestly was the best ham, egg and chips I have ever had in a restaurant / pub. The ham was perfectly cooked and so tasty. My boyfriend had the steak and he didn’t even need a steak knife to cut it! He used his normal knife as it cut like butter! It was also amazing value! Great quality for an amazing price! They had a little tent off the building as well and they had a singer inside, we didn’t go in that part but we both said it looked fun and a good vibe! They also had parking available. Would 100% return & recommend.

On my last visit a couple of months ago I only gave a stingy 4 stars. How could I? 5 stars all round! Hospitality was great, as was the food (2 X fish & chips, 1 beef and ale pie & mash, 1 sea bass and a smoked haddock kedgeree). Everyone enjoyed their food and there was no need for the waitress to apologise for slow service – it seemed perfectly fine to us - the place was very busy, but it was not a problem. It was my bad that I didn’t ask more about the pie – I had hoped for a two crust pie, not a top crust. It was still great, but a bit difficult to keep the pie dish from sliding off my plate while eating it! We probably won’t order another kedgeree in summer as the flies were rather partial to it as well – so much so that I began to wonder if there was anything wrong with the other food, which they ignored ;) Not sure what could be done about the flies – fly screens are not very common in the UK.

This is the first time I have been to The Artichoke even though it is only a twenty minute drive from my home. The pub is set in a beautiful area and has a garden and a covered outside area. The food was excellent and the service could be better but the pub was constantly busy, as people left more people were taking the tables, so the waiting staff were seating people as well as taking orders and payments so I can understand my delays. When I state the service could be better this only to do with taking orders and payments as, once ordered the food arrived quite promptly. I would certainly go again and can highly recommend it.

A lovely outside area for lunch, polite waitress, welcoming bar staff. However, the food wasn't up to the same standard. I had the gnocchi, which I enjoyed, but my friend wasn't as lucky with his ham egg chips and mushy pies, and only ate his eggs. We did tell the waitress the meal wasn't nice, who did apologise but didn't offer to change it, offer an alternative or discount the bill. My only complaint other than the food would be the amount of time taken to clear the plates after eating.

What a fab place. We met for a family lunch as it was about halfway and what a great find. The staff were lovely. On the ball; just the right level of attention. The food was great. Well cooked, well presented and a good price.

The kedgeree! Just have it. So good. Caprese salad also good, but I will dream of the kedgeree.

Lovely pub but a tad experience

Had a lovely evening except for the service at the end of the night. As a local I hadn’t been for several months and went with friends but what a shame a couple of staff spoke to us at 11:30pm to hurry us to leave!! When your customers are finishing their drinks and freshening up for the journey home may I suggest you don’t need to continually advise you are closing!! Appreciate everyone wants to go home but save it for a decent hour and not at 11:30pm!!! Now I remember why I don’t chose to use your venue for such occasions!! 2 pubs on the Green and one I won’t be using in a hurry - customer service goes a long way!!!

Nice spot to have a drink and some food, especially in good weather. Had the Chillie burger (which had some kind of pulled pork/beek loaded on the patty) and upgraded my fries to the duck fires. The burger concept was great, and the flavours were good, but the burger patty itself was way over cooked to the point it was a bit too hard and not that enjoyable. Fries were great, just needed a few more of them!
