The Amble Butcher in Northumberland

Went to buy some local pies, had a good selection , also had lovely cheeses and lemon meringue pie. Very good prices , we purchased some small pies and were told how to reheat, with times. Very friendly and helpful man served us.

I moved to the area last July and after saving how much I loved the meat at a well known Alnwick company I was advised by a neighbour to try this butcher… I had a steak pie and got some mince for a chilli. The pie was the best I have ever had. Huge chunks of steak, rich gravy and a crisp pastry. The mince needed no oil to cook and retained its moisture and was succulent. Friends visited this weekend who are “ foodies “ and I took them to the shop. They brought a selection of pies to take home ( stored in my fridge overnight and taken home in a cool box) They had the mince pies for dinner and have been in touch raving about the quality and taste. I will certainly not be buying pies or meat anywhere else!!

Good butchers have been going to this butchers for a few years now very good quality meat , lovley sausage especially port and tyme great lads the pies look extremely pleasant too .

Great sausages: nice and meaty with very little dropped fat. Good bacon: nice thick slices of back, very little dropped water when cooked Amazing pies: single person portion pies were excellent. Due to the steak ones being sold out the misses and me split a mince & ale and a chicken leek & ham between us. A lovely amount of filing. We had to go back when the steak ones were available. Not disappointed!

A bit disappointed my others half pie was full of filling mine was stuck to foil and one piece of chicken no sauce basically a empty pie

Last week we were on holiday in Amble. We purchased a number of items from the Amble Butcher. It was all good but one thing really stood out. The sirloin steak was juicy, tasty and tender. Absolutely delicious - the best steak we have had in a very long time.

Lucky enough to be staying right behind the butcher's shop, but our daughter had already spotted the place on-line! Amazing selection of home made pies, sausage rolls etc, notably the Border Reiver, which we couldn't get enough of! Good value lunch, hot option with mash if you wish, but we had them cold with crisps on picnics. Lovely helpful and friendly staff, we ordered a couple of lamb's kidneys to collect later in the week - a favourite snack of my husbands and as rare as hen's teeth!

Superb meat pies, sausage and bacon. Combined with friendly service, what more could you ask.

Reviewing for my mum who visited a couple of times on our recent holiday in Amble. Butcher was extremely helpful and prepped meat exactly as she requested. Produce of excellent quality.

His pies and meat products are amazing. It is the only chicken pie I will eat!

Great local butcher. Told us how long beef had Been cured when purchasing stakes and when he made his sausage. Proof was in the eating over the bbq.

I discovered Amble Butchers' steak pies a few years ago on our way home from a trip to Northumberland. They are the best I have ever tasted! I buy some every time I am anywhere near and bring them back to Scotland. We have great butchers and bakers up here but no-one beats an Amble steak pie. Top quality and well-loaded. Highly recommended! Please open a branch in Glasgow!

Called in at the end of our break to take some food back home with us . The previous year we had bought a pork joint that was very tasty , so this year we bought a couple of pies , some pork & leek sausages & two steaks. All have been good so far . Found the staff to always be pleasant & friendly . Will definitely use again if return to the area .

I Tend to go to Amble butchers once a week there meat is spot on ever time I wouldn't go anywhere else , a 100 times better than supper market meat and cheaper and you know were it's comes from usually local don't normally buy the pies but look delicious and apparently they are

I adore all the pies especially the reiver pies. As I live in Blyth I stock up buying 6 at a time to freeze. I also buy their frozen haggis and different cuts of meat. Today I tried their sausages and cannot recommend them highly enough. Not a trace of fat in them...as good if not better than the Geordie Bangers or Heck variety. Well worth the trip.

Everytime we come up North we head for this butchers to stock up on Pies etc. This time we bought Pickled Brisket- fantastic on sandwiches. We bought Pies of course & some free range Belly Pork. Pies we had with stoved sprouts & carrots. Pork Pies are really meaty. The pastry on all the Pies is crispy- not chunky & claggy. The Belly Pork was absolutely divine- perfect crackling.

Tried a couple of the pies which where great and service was also excellent.

Really friendly staff. Peter is a very knowledgeable butcher. The steaks are aged, and top quality. Pies are delicious. So much so, I'm taking some home, when the holiday is over. Just a shame that I live in Leeds.

We visit everyone we pass around lunchtime to get fantastic pies. This time we also got some Pork and Leek sausages for dinner. They were Chucky and really meaty. Just like the steak pies - packed with good quality meat. Two each was enough as the foundation for a great meal. Three each would be a meat feast. Can’t go wrong and to put balance against the last reviewer, who has every right to their opinion, we have been visiting the Amble Butcher since they moved here from Walkworth and have alway found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Keep up the good work team.

Staff need education on the 2010 disacrimity act. Requesting customers to wear masks without asking if they are exempt. Apparent from that, shop looks unhygienic compared to when t rowland had the business it for years

Popped in today for steak. Couldn't resist the freshly cooked pies and sausage rolls. Just had the steak for tea and it was beautiful. Great find. We'll be back next holiday.

We visited whilst on holiday on recommendation of a local kayak instructor. We were not disappointed ! Steak pies full of actual steak ( not common in my experience ) , no gristle , tasty gravy and crispy thin pastry when warmed up . Wondering now if 120 miles is too far to go for a pie ...

The quality of meat and friendly service from this butchers is absolutely superb and never fails to disappoint on our annual visits to Amble. The T bone steak is the best we have ever tasted and the pies and gluten free burgers are absolutely delicious. Our visit this year was during the Covid pandemic so we were paying particular attention to the handling of the meat and cleanliness of the shop. As usual the shop was spotless and the staff ensured excellent hygiene measures were followed to minimise risk. I highly recommend a visit to this butchers and avoiding the the run of the mill supermarket selection!

Feeling mellow! Just had one of the nicest pieces of roast beef I've had for ages, accompanied by a Chilean Malbec. Now they didn't supply the Malbec but the rib roast was beautifully marbled . Lovely!

Meat is always top notch. Can highly recommend home made pies, chicken skewers and pork chops.

Fantastic pies. I love the steak one and my wife loves the chicken, gammon and leek one. Once you try them you will want to keep going back for more like us!

We were walking up the street, passed the butcher's and did an about turn when we took in the smell of pies😊. So pleased we did - Reiver's pie, chicken, leek and gammon pie. Wonderful.

Every time we visit Amble,a visit to this butchers is a must. The Guinness and mince pies,the steak pies and the chicken,ham and leek pies are all equally delicious. All reasonably priced. We have watched Amble being transformed over the years on our twice yearly visits to the area. One constant though is this butchers shop. Visited today and bought some Reivers pies straight out of the oven. The pastry is crispy and the overall taste is gorgeous, in my opinion. They always taste good. Would thoroughly recommend to pie lovers...

Always make a point of calling in when I am down that way, whether it be a Sunday joint or a few of their famous pies you can always be assured of the quality. Just ordered by Christmas meats as I know we will be in good hands. Many thanks to Peter and staff.

Had a drive out today to find this shop and we were not disappointed in fact we ate them and went back for more steak pies are amazing

Fantastic meat, and pies are the best I’ve tasted the meat is so lean, no grisly bits. Will be going up there this week to stock up on them, as they can be frozen.

Brought some bacon which was cut off fresh. 2 steak pies still warm and 1 chicken and leek and gammon pie which all tasted really good. Also brought 6 pork sausages for breakfast next morning to go with the bacon but when I went to get them out of the bag and pulled apart the sausages to separate they were full of maggots. Was not impressed.

I always go to the Amble butcher for my meat. I only go to Amble at the weekends and it’s always my first choice. Friendly and attentive staff, always see Connor who knows his stuff. Popped in yesterday for my Sunday breakfast sausages and as usual very succulent and tasty at a good price. Highly recommend

Had a pie and pea night and everyone agreed that these pies were the best they had tasted. Plenty of filling, nice light short crust pastry and full of flavour. Very friendly and efficient staff - would highly recommend tasting these pies, we will definitely be back for more.

Second visit this year to Amble to enjoy the coastline and birdlife. However glorious the area is the highlight is buying a picnic lunch from The Amble Butchers and some sausage to take back home in Devon, it certainly freezes well to keep the experience going.

Nice display of pies - we had 2 steak, kidney and stout individual pies. Cooked very well - meat seemed like braised but was very tasty, good amounts of kidney and excellent pastry.

This butcher does the best pies with absolutely loads of filling. The steak pie was our favourite with steak and kidney in stout and the chicken,leek and gammon coming close seconds. The pies were all made by the butchers. Sausages were great as well so I had to get some for the freezer at home.

I had read great reviews on Trip Advisor about this butchers in Amble so tried their pies. We were not disappointed and went back for more. Can thoroughly recommend the Reivers pies and the steak pies. We would like to have tried others but didn't want to end up looking like pies! They were very much enjoyed, particularly as my husband doesn't like fish.

Call in here regularly for my northumbrian reiver pie, they are fantastic! Also get some really good quality barbecue produce here. First class butchers.

Called for the favourite sausages from the amble butcher, they were I am told as good as ever if a little smaller than they have been in the past - but he was happy with that.

We were on a day trip to Amble and acting on 'a hot tip' called into the butcher's to get something for tea.

I popped in while staying at Warkworth. To be honest thou I’d drive a good 100 miles for the pies. This time picked up a couple of steak and a couple of mince. They are honestly the best pies I’ve ever had and I’ve been coming here for years. Try them. They will not disappoint. The friendliest butchers in the friendliest port!!!

Bought a couple of meat pies for tea. They were still hot from the oven. Very light pastry and a good amount of quality filling. Also good value - I was expecting to pay twice as much.

Bought 2 pies today at the Amble butchers they were awesome. If you go to the Butchers in Amble, You know that it's never a gamble, The pies are so nice, you'll want to go twice, You can take them along on a ramble! Delish....!!!

We called in today (26/08/2018) as we usually do when in Amble and bought two steak pies and a sausage roll. The pies were delicious, the meat was beautifully cooked and tender with no fat or gristle and the pastry was lovely. We ate the sausage roll later and that was also tasty with just enough seasoning. Although we didn’t buy any fresh meat it looked lovely and had circumstances been different I would certainly have bought some. The young man serving was polite and helpful. I especially noticed that after serving the gentleman before us with raw meat he carefully washed his hands before serving us with our pies.

I do love a good sausage .... I will try and test sausages and pies in local butchers wherever I go . So far I have tried pork sausage and chicken and leek pie . Both very good , next I am coming for the pork pies ...... my favourite they had better be good ..... challenge on ...❤️

I popped in for some sausages for tea. The quality of meat was excellent and the staff were very helpful.

Every year we come up here we return again and again to this butchers! I am addicted to the minced beef and Guinness pies, you can not fault them, fresh filling, beautiful pastry, my mouth is watering at the thought and luckily we are having them tonight for dinner! The other day we tried some which had haggis in and they were also fabulous, we have had sausages, bacon and all sorts from here which is always fresh and good quality. Get in early to avoid missing out on some things which sell out quickly because they are so good, if you manage to get some of their pease pudding you have hit the jackpot!

Having been in twice and walking out with nothing, I won't be going again . The men at the counter are surly and almost hostile; the meat looks old, the slection is extremely poor and the shop smells. There is a far superior butcher shop across the road with friendly helpful servers, fresh meat and a wide selection. No contest!

We had read a lot about the pies from this butcher and during our stay in Amble went out of our way to buy some......Oh my they are lovely. Three of us tried the steak pie and all agreed one of the best we had ever eaten.

Regularly call to buy some of their luxury pork sausages which are epic - the black pudding is also very good indeed. We have sampled the pies and we are it appears in the minority as we did not think they were anything special.

Fantstic pies, have bought many pies from this shop and they are always delicous and the pork chops are very nice as well. Highly recommened.

My husband had tried a Border Revier pie in May when we visited Amble for a day trip whilst staying further up the coast. In September we had a cottage holiday in Amble so of course tried Boder Revier pies again. On our final day I called in to buy 6 pies to take home for family and devastated to be told they had sold out!! Peter saved the day by selling me oven ready pies I could bake at home. I am a veggie but family rave over them although it's a bit of a trip from the Lake District to keep them happy. Fabulous butcher and so lovely.

Sampled a couple, the Reiver pie, very nice. 5/5 The pork pie, very nice crust, meat too peppery and lacking jelly. This is only my preference though. 3/5

Bought chicken and leek plus steak pies on impulse. AMAZING! Fantastic taste and texture. Drove back 30 miles to buy more. Excellent quality, taste and value. You guys should consider how to big up your business. Marketing, competitions, wider distribution including online. I'd invest in your products and skills. You have created something really special which is ready for a much wider audience.

I've been getting pies from here for a while now. By far the best of the best. Got there early Sunday morning before the rush make sure I got my pies.. 10 for now God they are lovely haven't got a favourite there all fantastic.. always call in when we go to amble. Well, I'm a veggie, but my husband says they are the nicest pies he's ever had. They look, smell and taste divine! The staff are so friendly, they deserve to do well.

Strolling down charming Amble main street & popped in to pick up a pork pie for next day's hiking. Spotted the 'border riever pies' and always ones for something different picked up a couple of these instead. Sooooo glad we did! Moist, tasty, succulent, well spiced, absolutely delish - these will be real culinary highlight of our Northumbrian getaway :-)

The pies Amble butchers sell are amazing the filling is plenty full, fresh daily and just the best pies I have ever had.

The best and most diverse range of pies in Northumberland. All full of local meats and vegetables. Highly recommended.

I don't really need to add anything else to this review. The pies are amazing, all of them. The Pork, Reiver, Steak, Mince, Chicken and Leek. Don't take my word for it. Go and buy some pies, eat them and put a smile on your face.

On holiday in this town and a reviewer had said this butcher made good pies so we bought 2 steak pies for dinner. They were full of lovely tender beef and had nice shortcrust pastry.

The local Northumbrian version of a Scotch pie which included haggis and turnip was really good. So good we went back to buy some to take home.

Every time we go north we stock up on the gorgeous pies. Love the Steak pie or the Chicken and Leek! Good quality, great price and great taste.
