Celebrating a special occasion but so disappointed. My partner had the topside which was delicious, accompanied with Yorkshire pudding, 3 pieces of lightly roasted potatoes, 1 piece of carrot and parsnip ( not whole ! ) I asked as the nut roast wasn't on the menu and didn't want ravioli for my Sunday lunch, if the chef could give me a plate of vegetables. I had the same minus the beef but served with meat gravy, which I said I couldn't eat. Asked if it was possible to have a vegetable gravy, this took ages to arrive and my partner had just about finished his meal. We had no other vegetables. £18 for the roast !! much better value elsewhere in Cornwall.Drinks over priced also . Unfortunately we won't be returning or recommending it to family and friends

Was very sad , as was meeting two friends for lunch , chose here as thought food would be good , soup was lovely roast was terrible my friends had there's with gravy I didn't but there's turned up mind took 10 minutes then waitress was serving other tables and said to me 3 times sorry he keeps putting gravy on it , so our lunch together wasn't happening my friends pork was scrapes of meat and the veg etc was cold , when mine came it was cold as well uneatable, wouldn't serve that at home , so none of us ate it , we complained and said it was terrible but happy to pay for the soup, the assistant manager brought us the bill £48 for 3 soups asked why that price she said because we only had one coarse we said but we were going to have the 3 course not our fault the main is terrible , she said she done us a deal and reduced it from £18 down to £16 what a joke she snatched the bill folder from my friend huffed away , we got up and spoke to the manager he was apologetic and didn't charge us for the soup , but our special lunch date was ruined and the RUDENESS of the assistant manger was terrible in front of other people I delt she will be spoken to but she needs to learn good customer service , the other waitresses were lovely , won't ever return and will give my friends who ask if it's nice there a thumbs down👎

Staying at the hotel for 2 nights Ate in the restaurant for the first night Think they’ve had some flooding so more tables in half the usual restaurant space so felt a bit jammed in and noisy Friendly service Food ok - just didn’t feel great value Pork belly entree was decent but small piece of meat I felt Didn’t enjoy the basil encrusted pollock that much - not much flavour to it. The accompanying Parmesan chips felt a bit microwaved? It was ok

Have lived in Cornwall all my life and for the first time today went to The Alverton for Sunday lunch. Can't fault it in any way. I had fish goujon starter, melted in the mouth. Husband and our friend had Tomato and Orange soup, really good. For main friend and I had roast pork, very good. Husband had brisket, he said it was really tender. All accompanied with Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. For sweet, creme brulee for me and friend, husband had caramac bread and butter pudding. Everything superb. Staff excellent, professional and friendly. Would like to wish the young waiting staff we spoke to "all the very best in your studies".

We had Sunday lunch. A lot of staff! Most really didn’t know anything and couldn’t answer questions. Menu not very exciting, set price but a glass of white wine was over £11. Astonishing, and not that good either. Only set menu on a Sunday. Tables very basically laid. Actual food was quite tasty but huge amount of food on a very small plate. Not easy to eat as kept shooting off! Assistant manager, I think, very accommodating over one member who has trouble eating. Overall very disappointing and better place to eat for that price. Sadly not to be repeated.

Rocked up for an impromptu bbq on Friday night as the sun was shining and we’re so glad we did! The sun was still on the terrace when we arrived and there was a really nice atmosphere. It was brilliant to see the chefs (Ollie and Liam) outside with the bbqs making it a real bbq experience and they were very friendly and chatty when we approached them to discuss the menu and were very knowledgeable about all their produce used. Apologies for the distraction- it must be hard to get your work done with so many people coming up to you! I had the sardines and my friend had the steak, both of which were absolutely delicious. The nibbles were also a real treat whilst we waited- we loved the chorizo! The waiting staff were also very friendly and attentive with a great range of drinks on offer. Overall it was a fabulous evening and we can’t wait to come back.

Came over for dinner on a Friday night for the BBQ. Nice BBQ menu which children also enjoyed food from. The food was really good. We enjoyed the range of starters; peppers, olives and the chorizo bites. The peppers were everyone’s favourite. The children enjoyed the burger and hot dog. The head chef was accommodating with the various children’s requests when ordering. I had the steak which was tasty and the sauce had a nice spicy kick. Lovely place to sit outside and enjoy the food in the sun. Nice to see the chefs Ollie and Liam out of the kitchen doing the BBQ, chatting with customers, smiling and obviously enjoying what they were doing.

I hope someone from the hotel reads these reviews, this is a fantastic venue serving food that could be so much better - and that’s being polite. Been twice for Sunday lunch now and on both occasions it’s been second rate. Beef wasn’t good - chewy and difficult to cut. Veg looked good but was hard, yorkies were sub standard. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding that wasn’t home made and came with just toffee sauce. Raspberry and white chocolate brûlée was also pretty basic. Service was slick and pleasant and that’s about it. Yes, I was unfortunate enough to get two Christmas presents of vouchers for Sunday lunch at the Alverton!!

We had Sunday lunch here today. A lovely round table with plenty of space around us & polite gracious staff as usual . However, I am sorry to say that the meal was sadly lacking. The 2 fish & chips were enjoyed but my roast came with a huge thick pork chop which was not terribly attractive & was very chewy. The beans were very hard ( not properly cooked) & a little more gravy would have been appreciated. The raspberry brûlées were overlee sweet . My guess is, that it was bottled purée . Not a raspberry in sight. . Hubby had sticky toffee which he thought was probably bought in as it was mediocre & disappointingly was served with no cream or ice cream.

Attended here recently for a wedding reception. It is a nice venue with plenty of character. Staff are polite and friendly. Very small bar area which can result in long queues. The evening “Buffett” is very poor. Limited choice with pasty’s, mini chicken burgers and wedges. Unsure whether the choice is decided by the wedded couple? I personally would have been disappointed if I paid extra for the food on offer. Poor quality and cold. This experience has given me added incentive to remain married! 😉

Lovely , historic venue but bar and restaurant very tired. Staff very friendly and efficient but the food in the dining room was very disappointing. We had a voucher pre paid for £80.00 for an anniversary meal. You would not be able to have three courses based on the menu we were given which was very misleading on the voucher. We knew we would be paying extra but it was as much again! Chicken supreme was not chicken supreme, which is chicken cooked in a white wine sauce, it was very dry with no sauce at all!Hash browns were tough, tired and tasteless. The vegetables which we ordered were tough, slopped in a bowl and very unpleasant! My cheesecake was grainy as if it had been frozen. My husband ordered Affagado for desert which was very tiny and poor for £9. We did book it as a special wedding anniversary and this was not recognised in any way! What a shame! We like the Greenbank and shall look forward to going to the Falmouth Hotel which has just been acquired by the same company but we will not try the Alverton again.

We were a small business group to stay and a larger group for a delicious dinner. We stayed in comfortable well appointed rooms up in a separate block walking up hill. I am not sure I would have enjoyed doing that in winter! However this block is convenient to the car park. My room (46) had generous shower and large bath which I enjoyed. My only irritation was that I could not find somewhere to plug in the hairdryer and see a mirror! Dinner was excellent and much enjoyed by all, as was breakfast. Lots of delicious things to choose.

I visited the Alverton for the second time today in order to attend a function. On both my visits I have eaten there. The first time I ate there although the food was OK it was nothing more than that - well presented, small portions and just ok tasting. All in left with the impression that the hotels chef could do better and that although the food was OK there was nothing exceptional about it and that I had paid a premium for a meal that was not premium quality and a long way short of fine dining, So returned as a guest of a friend today with high expectations that because the group I was joining were long standing customers of the hotel that we would be well looked after in respect to the meal. I couldn't have been more disappointed. My main course was supposed to be Coq au Van with rice and I have to say at best this dish was insipid and more accurately described as washed out. Tiny flakes of Chicken meat and rice drowning in a watery sauce that tasted of nothing more than instant chicken stock. My desert was supposed to be Tarte Tatin! What I was served was more akin to a soggy pancake with burnt apples and some sort of crumble (possibly granola). Nothing that I would have recognised as the classic French crispy pastry and caramelised apple dessert! One shining note was the serving staff - polite and friendly to a man and woman. Sadly Alverton you have left me on both occasions disappointed with the quality of your food.

We booked the Alverton for lunch based on the website indicating what an amazing experience would await us. The staff were very good and friendly and the wine was excellent. However, the food did not quite match up to what was expected. We had travelled five hours from West Sussex to attend a funeral that week and though it would be nice to go The Alverton on arrival in Cornwall. We went for the three course lunch menu for £28. My starter indicated a 'Mix of Cornish fish bits from the sea'. I was expecting great things, but what arrived were five battered pieces of white fish straight from the freezer with a minuscule drizzle of sweet chilli sauce. The main of tortellini was ok but could have done with some sort of sauce. The real problem was the desert. We both went for the 'Black Forest roulade with almond dacquoise, cherry puree, and a cherry and chocolate ganache' (I notice this is still on the menu and seems to be a standard on the fixed lunch menu). Sounds delicious, but what actually arrived was a dried up piece of Swiss roll, one cherry out of a jar, a dollop of ice cream and dollop of cream out of a squirty can. I totally understand that especially after Christmas and New Year any restaurant is keen to use up supplies, but really, this was a complete joke. Please don't take the paying public for fools and think they won't notice, especially when the hotel makes a point of saying what an amazing food experience awaits us. Maybe you thought that no one would know what a dacquoise or a ganache consisted of? When the desert arrived, there was one member of staff left in the restaurant so no point in mentioning it then. We drove up and thought how nice it would be to come for a weekend, but so put off.

The service was so slow, it took so long for our food to come out and then our plates to be taken away and for us to be asked if we would like a dessert and then for them to come out as well! Fair enough if everything is cooked fresh but it was just so slow! I personally wasn’t keen on the roast beef, it was very well done and quite chewy, the side vegetables were quite hard, perhaps not cooked enough, everyone who had the turkey said it was very nice but thought the same about the vegetables. Was quite disappointed. The salted caramel ice cream & chocolate ice cream were both very tasty!

What a delight. The Taste of Truro evening was all about the vegetables and local seasonal produce. Each course was talked through by the chef Ollie, who was clearly passionate and proud about what he and his team does and the local produce that he uses. Hearing the explanation, ingredients and where they had been sourced, behind each of the courses was a great element of the evening and really helped you to appreciate what you were eating. I particularly liked hearing about the local goat’s cheese and how passionate the chef was to be using this again in his menu. Each of the courses was beautifully presented. Five out of the six courses were served cold which was a first for me, but worked really well, suited the dishes and the weather. The one hot course was watercress and celeriac risotto which was incredible with the crispy cavolo nero. Just great flavour and texture. I would order this every time. The cold lettuce soup was refreshing and something different. The chef’s menu had me trying things I would have never considered and created a lot of conversation around the room. I had the accompanying wine flight which complimented each course beautifully. The evening was relaxed and unhurried, the staff were friendly, the venue is beautiful and the food was simply amazing. I hope this vegetarian Taste of Truro is held again in the future.

Beautiful building, visited whilst staying nearby on holiday. Service a little disjointed, we were left alone for about 15 minutes and had to ask to order. I ordered a Caesar with a side of tempura veg which, when it came, was all clumped together in one big mass. Other food was lovely. Again left after mains and eventually asked for the bill as we’d gone off the idea of dessert. Very nice setting and quiet, peaceful ambience.

We had lunch here for my partners birthday last week. We cannot fault the beautiful building, the gardens or the staff, who were helpful and polite. The food, however, was not of the standard we would expect from a venue like this, or for the price charged. From the vein left in the prawn, the bones left in the fish and a very poor vegetarian selection and unappetising salad. Won't be returning.

Booked last minute to enjoy an afternoon tea for 2 as a birthday treat; enjoyed the experience from start to finish. Lovely comfortable dining area, calm atmosphere, and professional service. Overhearing us talk about my birthday yesterday it was a lovely gesture of them to ask if they might give us each a complimentary glass of Prosecco to enjoy with our tea; sandwiches and cakes were all lovely, at first we thought the 2 scones a little small, but with the very rich cakes as well found it all too much for us to eat in one sitting so appreciated the ability to take some home in a box for later. On a sunnier, drier day would be nice to sit out and enjoy the beautiful grounds.

Since May last year when we went to the Fishermen's charity dinner (a five course meal, each course prepared by a different top Cornish chef) we have been to the Alverton restaurant many times - for lunch, dinner and also their special occasions (most recently the seafood event). In that time we have never had a disappointing meal - the dishes are prepared and presented with care, each one a combination of exciting flavours to tickle the taste buds. This is not fast food - if you want to eat in a hurry, I wouldn't recommend this establishment. But if you're happy to relax and be patient, if necessary, the dining rooms are spacious and the tables comfortable and well-placed (contrast this with Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant where, although the food is of similar quality, the couples' tables are cheek-by-jowl). The white linen service enhances the sense of a special occasion. The waiting staff, although young, are enthusiastic and friendly and have clearly been well trained to offer a professional service. As with most restaurants these days, they check regularly to see if you're happy with the meal. Any business will have days when things don't go to plan for whatever reason, but this restaurant is one of the few that has consistently given us and our friends a great experience.

We have had afternoontea here on a number of occasions and always enjoyed all aspects but on this occasion were extremely disapointed. Firstly the area of terrace we sat at was undergoing very dusty renovation and shold have been sectioned of from customers. The table was thick with dust as were all the tables when I checked presumably a consequence of the extreme heat and proximity of a busy main road The tea itself which had previously been excellent in all respects was ruined by lookwarm tea as a starter and the cream tea element in which the scones where dreadful little burned elements. We didn't complain at the time because we didn't want an even worse atmosphere surrounding the accasion Come on Alverton buck up.

Picked up on 'What's on in Cornwall' that there was a celebration of Cornish Seafood from the Chef named Olly - a lovely gentleman who explained each dish to the diners. The hotel itself is in a magnificent setting which sets the scene, dinner was in the library that would in the past have graced suppers no doubt. The title bar and restaurant does not do the environment justice in my opinion. The dining room (library) was a large, naturally well-lit room with magnificent views for all, the table layout allowed for normal conversation without the echoes of some places that are simply not best suited nor designed for dining in (as a civil engineer it is an important facet of the experience, design is important!). In short, we had two linked rooms shared between us that was very relaxing. The food should not be a secret and this is why I am writing - its ok for the locals who are naturally entitled to their own but there is an element of sharing of such wonderful fayre that needs to be publicised, especially when strongly recommended! Each dish was admirably explained by the very personable Olly who was supported by a superbly well-trained team of staff, they couldn't do enough for us (we travelled in so couldn't drink (and drive) but that didn't stop us from being very well engaged by them all). A most natural Madam D' came to each table calmly and collectively, engaged in nice conversation and most importantly, enquired about the current or previous dish. Furthermore, each dish was amply portioned (we did not leave hungry!) and was presented beautifully. The tastes were out of this world with basic foods but built up to titillate the tastebuds and caused much of the conversation that evening. I could not fault anything about this experience, the wonderful welcome, the unhurried events, the delightful ambiance among clear like-minded people out to enjoy themselves in a culinary wonderland. Olly spoke with everyone there and was very public, a proud Cornishman who is equally proud of his team and is keen to give credit in vast quantities where it is due. There is a delightful balance in the 'front of office' team that works very well, with lots of smiles and unhurriedness that speaks volumes about the service they provided so well. Feedback about the Group of (I think 3) Hotels/restaurants they work in was really positive and that tells me much, they aren't just there to slap it down in front of punters that's for sure. Do I have some issues? I do, it's not local and too far away from us and I strongly recommend a visit for the 'Tastes of' that Olly is presenting, there is a Veggie one in Sep 23 and Game in Oct 23 that must be worth visiting. People may say, move closer then and my reply would be simple, please don't tempt us!!!

I thought a tad too much vegan margarine which slightly overpowered the flavours of the sandwich fillings. On arrival there was some confusion although we had pre-booked for pre-dinner drinks in the bar. Drinks service was extremely slow although several young, but inexperienced staff were in attendance in the bar area.Moving on to the Restaurant, we had a lively young waiter who looked after our group of 5, with aplomb. However, for a 2Rosette Restaurant, the entire meal was under-whelming in the extreme.Meagre portions & a general lack of seasoning for our assorted starters.Notably the main course of Hake, served in a soup dish in a rather unpleasant 'gruel'?, made impossible to enjoy without immersion. Returned to the chef to be offered on a plate please, in order for the fish & vegetables to be enjoyed."A little bit of everything delicious" Taster Dessert, was again, very disappointing. Miniature shop meringue with a few scattered raspberries, a square of 'cake?, a cube of choc brownie, need I go on?, We we're fully expecting a 'fine dining experience for our party, after a previous afternoon tea on the terrace which prompted our choice of your venue for our Celebration.

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting, but that is where the positive review finishes. We were booked for lunch at 12 o'clock and there were a lot of staff, but they were all running around like headless chickens. We were asked three times if we wanted the menu before it came and once again after we had eaten the first course. We had to ask for the drinks twice and despite requesting no ice they arrived with ice. We asked for the bill, which duly came and when we asked to pay they brought us the bill again. After this we were asked if we wanted the desert menu, again. The restaurant was only half full, so there was no excuse for this level of disorganisation, other than poor training. My wife enjoyed her meal (mackerel pate, followed by fish and chips), but my meal was not as good. I ordered tortellini (only two and hard in the corners) and medallions of beef ordered medium rare. They were two small pieces (served with bearnaise sauce, fries and rocket), one rare and one well done, so I sent it back. When it was returned, the waiter had forgotten the bearnaise sauce - there were only three items on the plate instead of four.Overall the meal was insubstantial, with chaotic service and disappointing for a two rosette restaurant.

Unfortunately we found our Christmas lunch to be poor value for money. At just short of £100 per head more was expected. The venison scotch egg to start was a delight, however the sole was bland. At the main course the vegetables were uninspiring and lacked flavour the roast potatoes were soggy and had definitely been sitting in the hot plate for too long. The turkey breast was nicely cooked but the leg croquettes dry, a jug of the very tasty jus would have solved this. The semi fredo was very good but the choux dessert soggy and tasteless.Service was excellent but if you’re going to provide free fizz, please choose something more palatable

Visited the restaurant with friends Tuesday. Have been before on many occasions usually birthdays etc , and have had a good if not great dining experience .On this occasion that was not the case. ,even allowing for COVID restrictions , the waiting staff were all professional and friendly. Two of us had the chicken supreme. ( I note the review 09/09/20 was exceptional for this meal , even though pricey. ) in our case the meat was dry and chewy. To a point of almost being impalitable, ,this was a very special birthday. And I was so disappointed I remarked to our waiters on no less than three occasions. , maybe in expectation of someone from the kitchen coming to offer an apology. This wasn’t forthcoming. And neither was an offer of bill reduction. The second point is regarding COVID expectations in a restaurant. . Condiments are usually brought to the table On request , if they are already there , as is the case here , then ,when the tables are sanitised after clients have left , then they must also be sanitised As well , I watched two waiters clear their respective diner,s tables. No attempt was made to sanitise the condiments. I hope this is a one off and not general practise. So all in all not a special evening out

But you get what you pay for in this world and if you want the best risotto ever you had better dust off that credit card and get down there!!!

We went back for a lunchtime treat to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. We had our reception and evening do at The Alverton and spent our wedding night there. From the first moment we entered the Courtyard, our waitress made us feel really special and congratulated us on our anniversary. She very attentive and friendly, whilst maintaining professionalism. The service truly was outstanding. We were very lucky that it was a lovely warm, sunny day and that she had allocated us a perfect, fairly secluded, table in the lovely setting of The Courtyard. We felt very safe in the midst of Covid-19. You could tell that each person who served us was taking great care, in the circumstances and they all wore face masks. We ordered 3 courses from the set lunch menu and thoroughly enjoyed each one. The food was exquisite. I would suggest that The Alverton Manor generally has offerings between mid range and fine dining with the evening menu priced at the higher end of the scale. There is also a bar menu available. Whilst we would usually struggle to justify the expense, we were lucky enough to be able to celebrate our anniversary during the time that the government Eat Out to Help Out scheme was being promoted, which made a big difference. We were very much hoping to return to sample the afternoon tea on Bank Holiday Monday (31 Aug), however since they had so many bookings (it being the final day of the scheme) they had decided to cut the menu down, just for the one day, and this had been removed unfortunately. We have not given up on the idea though and hopefully will be back before too long! If you are celebrating a special occasion or even if you can simply afford a regular treat then I would highly recommend dining at The Alverton Manor. We enjoyed every minute and are very grateful: thank you so much! xx

Booked lunch here under the EOHO scheme that has allowed me to try places that would normally be a bit over budget. Booked a table and on arrival was shown straight there even though we were a bit early. It is a good job it is summer as we enjoyed plenty of fresh air from the garden as the windows were open to air the rooms. Staff were all wearing face masks and our order was taken, the food was freshly prepared and was very tasty. I have been here once before to a group Christmas meal which was also very pleasant. If you have the budget for fine dining, this is a good place to visit.

Had the set lunch which even at full price was excellent value but with the “Eat Out” campaign couldn’t be resisted. The choices were excellent, I had the chicken liver parfait to start, the parfait was wrapped in Parma hame and served with tiny melba goats, picked red onion and rocket with a balsamic glaze. It was absolutely beautiful. Main was fillet steak perfectly cooked with a lovely herb butter served with asparagus, braised shallot and potato. Although the servings weren’t very big they were beautifully presented and were ample for a lunchtime meal. One of our party had the chocolate brownie which I did taste and it was to die for. Everyone was very safety conscious and it was an absolutely lovely meal served in very nice surroundings. Highly recommend.

Very disappointed. Hot food on cold plates! Veg French beans & carrots so al dente that could hardly get the fork in them. Service painfully slow. Booked for 1.15pm and left at 3.45pm. Couldn't wait any longer for coffee. Staff very pleasant but won't be returning in a hurry!

A group visit of around 70 people booked months ago. Coffee on arrival followed by a lecture. Then a reception with fizz or orange juice followed by a buffet lunch. This is a beautiful building which used to be a convent set back from the road so quiet but within easy walking distance of the city centre. Reasonable amount of parking. Staff were friendly & attentive but organisation was poor. Coffee was served in the same room as the lecture & there was a clattering of crockery & cutlery during the lecture as this was cleared away - very distracting. No buscuits with the coffee or nibbles with the drinks served in a cold reception room. Buffet lunch was 30 minutes late - hot food on plates so cold it felt like they'd come in from outside the building. As we had a train to catch didn't stay for dessert - the main course was heavily weighted to carbohydrate with pasta, rolls & eventually for a few random tables, potatoes. Shredded shin of beef was very good & there was also a fish option - mackerel. The pasta had assorted mushrooms so presumably that was the vegetarian option. We weren't resident so can't comment on accommodation.

Living and breathing all things Cornish, and living here, means that a cream tea can be as instrumental as part our lifestyle. Now, we've experienced a few good ones and some average ones in the past but none of them come close to the excellent one we had recently at the Alverton. The best scones, cream and jam we've ever tasted. It was outstanding. Great service too. Many thanks to the staff of the Alverton for making our cream tea special. Please note: Other reviews and tastes are available.

I visited here for afternoon tea with my Father and his wife.We arrived in the rain which is nobody’s fault but I suggest you do not allow guests to smoke at your entrance!! Not the nicest greeting I must say.Reception were very polite and directed us to the lounge bar to be shown to our seats. Nobody there, also looked in the room where tables were laid nobody there either! Eventually bar staff came back and when asked to be about afternoon tea they just pointed and said go that way and someone will be there. That someone was now there and pointed to the round table and said that’s where you are. Did follow us with one menu for the three of us!After some time they came back to take our order. The afternoon tea food was pleasant sandwiches good, the scone was huge, a plain one. The tea was made with loose leaves which was great.Unfortunately when I requested fresh tea I just had a pot of hot water over the old leaves it was obviously then tasteless. Not acceptable. The whole time we were there a member of staff was never present in the room they were to busy else where. We had to wait to request anything we needed and each time had to attract someone’s attention. They staff never came to the table to check we were ok or needed anything.Requested the bill which we got then waited for them to come for payment but no we had to wait for them to return to the room and go to them. All in all it was a good afternoon tea but the service was shocking. I think there was a big function on and that is where their priorities lay. We were largely ignored. I have ate here in the past for a meal and stayed here for 3 nights. Both of those occasions were ok but not fantastic.I will not return.

The restaurant looks grand with high ceilings The tables were crammed together, so it hindered the wait staff's ability to navigate. We were given the menu and the lounge menu. You could barely read the menu as the print was faint The choice was limited. However, we were told we could order from the lounge menu too. I ordered a Truffle Burger for £15.

We visited on 23 rd for drinks and dinner. The bar was chaotic and it took almost half an hour to get served for a drink. When we went to dinner we were shown to our table and then not given menus for 25 mins. The menu was very limited a friend had the duck signature dish which was nice but vastly overpriced and no sides for £29! The chicken dish was dry and the pasta dish not very hot. Now one asked how the meal was while we were eating. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Three guys with Birthdays in August, meet and take wives to The Alverton for lunch on Friday 16th August. We were prompted to try the house special of Fish and Chips with a glass of Prosecco for £9.95 and I have to say it was very good. Service however was not so good. Had to ask for things more than once. Seemed more interested in gazing at their computer terminal. Had that not been the case they may have noticed the water dripping from the ceiling on to one of the group. When pointed out there was very little interest or apology and from the state of the ceiling, it was not the first time it had leaked. They did however present the cake which was brought with us and provide plates. Bit of a shame really. Not impressed. May try again if not raining.

Ate here recently with my family & small baby, I had booked a table deliberately early so as we would be in/out within 2 hours and before the baby got cranky. It didnt work out. The food IS delicious here, it really is, but the wait for our Starters was shocking and even after I updated the Waiter that we wanted to be gone so our baby wouldnt ruin the other Diners experience, still our Mains took an age to come. 2 hours in & we had to leave quickly without dessert. I was disappointed and I don't believe the wait was justified as we ordered well before the 8pm rush! However if I was rating the food and friendliness of the staff only it would be 5 stars. The dramatic delays really let it down, sorry.

My wife and I decided to go for lunch this bank holiday Monday. We booked a terrace table for two at the Alverton and asked if it was ok for us to bring our dogs. We turned up on time at 12.40pm. It took 15 mins for our drinks order to be taken as staff appeared to be rushing around. When it turned up there was no bottle of water but only the two cocktails we ordered! The cocktails were not particularly good. We should have seen what was coming then. We ordered food about 1pm. The we sat waiting...…. At 215pm a waiter came out and told us there was a delay with our food because I had order a ploughman's, which takes time to prepare. We had been waiting at this point roughly an 1 hour 15 minutes. We order more drinks. Again waited..... At 2.55pm a waitress came out and told us there had been a problem with our food as the kitchen hadn't got our order. Nearly 2 hrs sat on the patio with our dogs waiting patiently and somehow our food order hadn't even started. We told the waitress we were simply bored of waiting and if we had to wait even longer we would probably prefer just to cancel our order. She apologised and said she would speak to her manager to see if they would cancel all our bill ie our drinks. We waited another 15 mins and no one came back to let us know the outcome of the issue of the bill for the drinks so we left. A very disappointing Monday bank holiday lunch. I really expected much better from such a nice hotel.

We needed a location for a reasonable number of mature Gentlemen, all members of a club, to have a semi formal luncheon in a private room. An enquiry was made of the Alverton and we were offered and accepted a very comfortable room which was close to the bar area. About 25 men attended and we had a full 3 course luncheon served to us. The food was excellent as was the service by the staff.

I chose the Alverton Hotel for an over night business journey from the list on Google and what a result. On arriving at the hotel the receptionist Jasmine could not have been more helpful and her local knowledge was excellent. During my stay I used the bar facilities, the bar was well stocked and the three staff working there Alex, Simon and Lelani were diligent smart and chatty and all had a good knowledge of the different drink that were selling along with good locally made ales. Before I finish I have to mention that on leaving the hotel in the morning as I came down stairs a lady with brunette hair who was cleaning looked up smiled and said goodbye, which I thought was lovely. The whole stay was superb and the next time I’m in or near Truro this is where I will be staying.

This is a lovely hotel and usually we enjoy coming here. We always book Christmas Day lunch and have a lovely meal. WE booked months ahead and expected to be in the beautiful Great Hall as usual, which is very impressive. When we arrived we were shown into the restaurant as an 'overflow' area in spite of our early booking. There was no Christmas atmosphere -just a tree in a corner and a wreath above an unlit fireplace. It appeared that all couples were placed in there with no Christmassy feelings at all.

The menu is varied & showcases local ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the catch of the day with risotto...& to follow it would have been criminal not to order dessert with Rodda's clotted cream, the fruit crumble was the perfect accompaniment! Good value for a classy supper in lovely surroundings (with just a little traffic noise in the background form Tregolls Road)
