The Alfred Herring - JD Wetherspoon in Enfield

Havnt been here in a while, since the new ownership and new kitchen staff it’s safe to say il definitely be going back. The atmosphere and the food to go with the perfect drinks served by the friendliest staff. I’ve had a lot off the menu and I still can’t wait to try the rest. The kids love it here so we’ll be making a return soon.

Good value pub grub. Plenty of room. No longer a weatherspoon company pub. The menu is new with a good selection foods.

The place is excellent, and the attention from Luisa and the staff was the best we have had in many years of coming here. I recommend it!

Usually come in here after footy,under new management, newly refurbished too.Food and drink amazing,service was very good too.Lou, Lexy and Roisin were wonderful. For the price the quality of the food was very good. Come visit.

Enjoyed coming back here with the family, nice upgrade from the previous wetherspoons. The staff were lovely and the food was great. Overall the atmosphere was really nice.

Sunday lunch was lovely, belly of pork and beef served lovely and hot, however asked for side order of roast potatoes as well As mash but only served with roasted, which were lovely. Lack of atmosphere, place was so quiet but hoping this will improve for them as time goes on, definitely recommend a visit tho

Really good atmosphere now, enjoying the music. The food is fantastic can’t fault anything we tried, and the prices were very decent compared to other pubs around. Will be back for the famous Sunday Roast!

Been there 3 times since it reopened as private owned pub. Friendly staff and clean place. Drink prices variable as I found out today. It is cheaper between 12 to 5. There is no drinks menu so you don't know how it cost unless you ask at the bar before buying. Food prices on the higher side.

It's a pub that is not ready for business, no wifi/no signal, no heating, no Sky sport service (just two TV behind the bar), food took 30 minutes and was cold and over seasoned etc. the only positive thing was the music and the staff I'll be back in a couple of months when I hope it's 100% ready.

Very glad for the reopening of this pub. The staff are doing a great job and the food options are very good and tasty. Great range of beer too.

Was a nice pub but now closed for good. Another Wetherspoon's bites the dust.

Good honest food and prices. Locals in full force despite being 4pm on a weekday.

They said they were going to close down following day. Ran out of food. Limited menu. They went out to buy ingredients to be able to present something for us. Burger was not up to standard. Not sure what happened there.

Genuinely the rudest most incompetent staff ever! Asked for a cocktail which was literally on the display board behind him and he had never heard of it, gave a comically loud sigh before making it and then refused to put any chilli’s on the SPICY PICANTE because he couldn’t be bothered 🥴 wanted to speak to a manager after the same member of staff swore at my boyfriend but she had a face like thunder and looked like she’d swing for you if you tried to approach her. Not a full set of brain cells between the lot of them either, genuinely giving the hills have eyes vibes. Only come because the drinks are cheap but honestly don’t think I can put myself through it again it’s like self harm. Would genuinely only bring someone here if I hated them.

Can someone please tell the team members to get off their mobile phones, which should not be allowed behind the bar, and do some work. When it is busy, nobody minds cleaning their table or bringing glasses up and there are a number of excellent team members, but a small number of the team spend their time on their mobile phone resting on the till beside the glass wash area, ignoring the fact that there are tables with dishes to be cleared and tables that need cleaning. Please can someone enlighten those team members that they are there to work - which involves ensuring the customers enjoy their experience and don't have to clean their own tables or bring their own glasses to the bar. When it is quiet - find something to clean. We know the pub closes in a couple of weeks but can the management team please ensure that the pub closes on a high...

Nice and quiet on Saturday morning, can enjoy a lovely breakfast.

I went there to have English breakfast, including orange juice and coffee. You have to order at the bar. The cold beverages, they will give you straight away. For warm drinks, they will give you a cup. There is a coffee machine near to the entrance where you cal select what you want. There are free refills of warm beverages. For this, I just spent over 10 pounds. This pub is very good to bring the family along on a Sunday for brunch.

Sorry sort of staff u wait more that 20minutes for my dinner yeah no one clear tables very shame truly not used that way really!!!!!!!

Food was nice but service a little slow and reduced stars due to prominent and overpowering smell of drains

It's a nice wetherspoons, food is good, kitchen is very quick and service is always polite but unfortunately they have had an on going problem for at least a couple of years... the place literally stinks like a sewer, not sure what the issue is as its very obvious and manager must be aware, unfortunately its not being resolved 🤮

Came in at lunchtime to rest from Christmas shopping & found a comfortable & private bench booth. A pleasant amount of people providing a gentle atmosphere, the service was polite & efficient & with a pint of ale, a glass of white wine & nice bowl of chips for about £8.00. A place to sit & chat in private with a drink at a decent price.

This is a difficult one. The Manager there is extremely rude. Out to ruin everyone's peace & she does it with an evil smirk on her face. I was all set to sit down and do some work, with my two drinks and bag of crisps. When she decided to turn the lights out, whilst talking over everyone. Not letting them speak, just because a few nice girls were in the Christmas spirit and so they should be. She wasted the police time too, bringing a bad vibe to the pub, twice! The way she spoke was very aggressive. Telling everyone they are barred. It's a shame really, because other than that. It's a very nice place. The rest of your staff there, deserve an upgrade. They are the true bosses. Being very apologetic, kind and helpful. As we were all turfed onto the street, worth no more to her. Than the nearest rubbish 💔

Food wasn't as good as it used to be but I think that is the same with all Wetherspoons now.

I have been lots times in there Probably it change the staff or something But now the food it not good The staff need a propyl training I was waiting 15m to spoke with the manager cause my food was disgusting. The lady on the floor don't care as well the blond lady she don't care after I said the food it overcook! So pls training them for good customer service! Thanks

What a unique gem! If your looking for a pub with character, this place had plenty of them!

I would like to give this place a better rating but I just can't find any thing positive I felt sorry for the staff they all seemed depressed I guess the ambiance gives them no choice really I passed through as I was in the area drinks are cheap as expected no service with a smile just sad long faces, cleanliness not good at all the smell is horrific just one big grey cloud hovering inside this place I would highly recommend buying some drinks from sainsburys and going hme to hve them so do not visit if you want to catch smething.

Been in here many times with no issue. Today there were not enough bar staff but one particular female member of staff who clearly didn't want to be at work. She served 2 people who had come to the bar after me and when I complained she said I was rude. I will be choosing a different pub in future.

It’s a Wetherspoon pub, table service was a bit disappointing as I had to end up going to the bar to get my drink after it didn’t turn up, normally it’s quite good

The Alfred herring Wetherspoon is the best pub establishment I have ever been too. The customer service is outstanding! Breakfast is the best in north London hands down. Not too mention the value for money on the drinks and food with a wide range off options too pick from. Very multicultural, the people are extremely friendly and polite. Last but not least the hot drinks are refillable! what more can you ask for. Mem and his colleague today was amazing! very friendly and welcoming! If your reading this review I strongly recommend you come and visit!

A typical looking spoons so absolutely nothing special about it at all.

Normally good, but when too many young people are there, too much noise, as they shout, not talk normally. I feel staff there should be more aware of this problem and control them. Otherwise it's fine !

Full of dickheass and wastemen staff are nice enough though

This is on the market for sale. Perhaps that is why 2 out of 3 real ales that I tried were badly off.

Really nice atmosphere and the service is very good. Parking is a slight issue with it being on a main road and side roads being one way now. There is a car park behind the McDonald further down. There are different buses that pass through so you can get the bus there instead of driving. Phone service is difficult to get when you are deep inside the pub.

This is a Wetherspoons pub that I would like to recommend The manager and staff are really amicable (Meme & Marge to mention a few) In my opinion, the food was of Michelin star quality, at reasonable prices, cheap drinks, amazing ambience and excellent value for money. This is a decent Spoons in the Palmers Green area. As soon as we come in for brekkie however we are accosted at the coffee machine by a greasy hungover chap who explains that he has been thrown out of St Annes mental health facility for fighting with another inmate and tells my female colleague with me exactly how alluring she is to him. He compares my appearance to a fat later career Russell Crowe, and her to Cat from Eastenders? Completely bizarre. He positions himself in the booth behind us as we await breakfast, and we can hear him burbling away to himself for the entire breakfast, and we leave without a refill due to the company. Decent Eggs benedict, though. Would come again.

Brilliant good and a great stmoshere

Great menu for whole family with fair prices. My daughter loves unlimited hot chocolate :) The only negative thing is that tables could be wiped a bit more often. But the food is worth it 🙂

A standard Weatherspoons boozer, expect s mkx of locals who spend all day in the pub, families popping in with children for the early evening and the odd young professional headed here for a cheap start to their evening before they move off to trendier digs

Customer service can vary, but prices are cheap compared to other pubs. Good selection of food. My friends had the fish and chips.. I will eat something vegan, which they do offer on the menu which is great. Always busy and lots of customers that stay a long time lol. Update 05/02/23 Prices have increased a few times since last year. Food always good. Bogdan (shaved head) is a lovely manager, helps that he is very sexy too! 😉 😇

Hi, As a resident of Palmers Green for 50 years, unfortunately, I must say your pub is utterly hideous looking and many drunks and unsavoury people gravitate to your pub and area which have made locals lives unsafe and difficult we've had enough of business owners being frugal with their money that should be spent on their businesses for refurbishment to a better-looking gastropub to what the area is accustom to at the moment its old fashioned, dark and miserable and this is making the area worse for the community. Thanks 😊

Love this pub..very warm and spotless. Toilets immaculate 👍 Staff very friendly and good selection of craft beers and great cost's. Patrons are friendly and you can meet new friends easily. ..will be back for sure.. Keep up the good work 💚

Very good prices on food and drinks.

The food was good and we didn't have to wait for long. Only one member of staff on so there was no service for anything else,when she was dealing with the food. Perhaps if she had some help she wouldn't be as snappy when asked a question from strangers to the pub!!

Peaceful pub, reasonable menu, Pleasant Staff. Free refill of coffee n tea.

A good friendly venue for a stop off once you've done some shopping and sightseeing at reasonable prices. There's plenty of choices of food and drinks here with helpful staff if you need any assistance. The extra plus side is the toilets are all downstairs.

Pros The food was tasty and arrived hot and quite fast and the staff were friendly and pleasant. Cons Smelly, aged , unhygienic, and the world cup is being advertised with a single 20" TV that literally has little to no sound.. disappointed and frustrating for someone that has come to visit such a beautiful city.

Staff are always nice and friendly and drinks and food reasonably priced but the quality of the food has declined significantly over the past couple of years. Nothing is fresh anymore and it all looks and tastes plastic and mass produced. Horrible! 🤮 The portion sizes are also much smaller. A real shame

This company must address its problems with drunk customers shouting in the street at night. I regularly get woken up in the middle of the night as people are lingering around the pub after it closes. I have lived near Wetherspoon pubs before, and this has never been a problem. Not sure why this establishment can't handle it.

Was worth the walk, the apple crumble was lovely, hot and not soggy with nice custard. Table was cleaned as soon as I sat down, pleasant efficient staff, the food for other tables that was served looked good (can’t help but have a nosey 😂)

Had a gr8 afternoon. Met friends to play games. Cards, dominoes. Hope the rummer is wrong that it is closing.

Great food for the price! There's a weatherspoons closer to me but I travel to this one as they cook the food well and the specials they have are amazing value for money. Breakfast menu is the best priced anywhere too!! Highly recommended for a bite

Another Wetherspoons earmarked for closure. But I have no idea why. It was very busy indeed with a wide age range of customers on a Saturday afternoon. Perhaps the lease is up. I hope it is able to continue as a public house in a similar fashion.

Nice place excellent prices and friendly staff

This isn't bad for a Wetherspoons pub. They have a range of ales on or you can even get a refillable hot drink for £1.50. You can sit in here all day and nobody will question you. The WiFi is very good, I was able to stream football on it no problem. It has the same issues as many Wetherspoons pubs: dirty tables, dirty toilets etc. I was there for 60 minutes and nobody bothered clearing the various empty glasses on the table during my stay. The atmosphere was quite relaxed with groups playing cards and people sat on a big table all to themselves. It had that working man's club vibe.
