Have never had food at this pub so hard to comment. But lovely pub, with nice atmosphere and super friendly staff! Would really recommend 😊

Easy going pub, nice beer garden

Pub has extra space at the back with a garden area and an additional enclosed area inside the garden area. We enjoyed a goats cheese burger, which had a nice big piece of goats cheese. The falafel salad dish was tasty, and the falafel was nice and cripsy. There primativo wine is a very nice dark and full-bodied, easy drinking red wine. There are 2 parking spots about 7 min walk away. One is Grafton East and the other Gwydir Street Car Park, but there are only a few spaces in Gwydir Street.

I had nachos and Chips. They were good quality and the portions were of a good size.

The singular best pub in the country, in my humble opinion

Recently had my 30th birthday party here. We hired out the outside room. The staff were great and allowed us to set up our own karaoke (which they said was hilarious). We ordered a buffet of Greek food which was lovely! Highly recommend booking this for party’s, or just enjoying a nice pint.

Great food, great beer, a good spirits selection and they even offer cocktails! Fantastic selection of burgers including a 'burger of the month' - check the mirror by the corner door for details. They have app-based ordering if you want to use it but you are also welcome to order at the bar. Heated garden area. Fully accessible toilet (via the garden). And if you need a room for a private event check out their Garden Room: with bifold doors all along one side it's a fab space in summer, and cosily heated in winter too. Super friendly staff, an all-round excellent pub!

Friendly cosy reasonably priced great atmosphere

The Alex is one of my favourite places in Cambridge. Everyone is super friendly. They have an excellent selection of food and drinks, and they always give you plenty. Have you ever ordered chips and dip where they give you a thimble full of dip? Not at the Alex you haven't, plenty of hummus for my flat bread. If I could give it 6 stars I would. Pictured: Falafel flatbread, skin on fries, and sweet potato fries.

The Alex is now one of our regulars - the food is consistently great, beer good and staff friendly and helpful. Glad it turned out how I'd hoped in my original review below! Popped in to see if anything had changed after a series of disappointing changes over the last few years. The decor change is for the better especially in the garden, beer is good (although a mild/stout on pump wouldn't go amiss - Greene King mild is lovely...), food is amazing - at last! The range of gins is definitely another draw, I'll be back to sample those another time... If the Alex carries on like this they'll be proper contenders in a small local area that already has three or four excellent pubs within a short walking distance. Top notch burgers are an excellent USP and we know where to come for one now.

The food here is always delicious! Love the burgers and the dessert waffle. It's also incredibly dog friendly! Bar staff always very nice as well!

Cobra on tap! I think it's the only pub in Cambridge with cobra. Lovely seating area outside and inside. Staff were nice and professional, asked for IDs swiftly, nice pour on the beer as well.

The Alex has had a number of tweaks over the last few years which didn't quite work but the latest tenants have turned it into a really nice pub. I am not a fan of the Green King beers on offer but the Alex has a few guest ales which are more to my liking. Staff are very friendly, there is a nice outside space and the beer is well looked after, food is fine, especially their Sunday roast. Worth a look if you are in the area.

The Garden Room is a great space to meet people for a few drinks, you can sit outside without getting wet or cold all year round. Friendly pub, hearty pub favourite foods, gets busy towards the end of the week.

A great place for a chilled evening.

Very happy to have been here today. I saw it other times passing by, but never had the chance to stop by to grab a bite until today. I got the Celine Dion burger, a Canadian inspired burger with maple syrup bacon and goat cheese. It was amazing, with the goat cheese that literally melts in your mouth. My partner took the gammon and eggs and it was very tasty as well. The gammon was cooked/cured with a little bit of maple syrup that made the whole thing even better. I will go back again and try also the desserts!

Just had A Swift-One in The Alex 🍻

Absolutely awful management. Booked a table for 7:00pm turned up at 6:58 and got refused as "it was too busy". When you book a table you are reserved a spot. Management were completely unapologetic and didn't care. 0 stars from me and friends as it was her birthday.

Just left this pub. Very disappointing. Firstly our food was delivered to our table and after a minute we realised no one was going to bring cutlery and condiments, I have no issues helping myself to cutlery etc but staff would normally advise you where they are located as we weren't advised where to get cutlery, sauces etc we assumed they were bringing them. So we went searching for them as they were in a different area to where we were. We ordered 3 burgers, sweet potatoe fries and chicken wings. Burgers were undercooked, very red. Bar was very busy so 1 member of our party went to the hatch and asked the chef if he could cook them further. He was quite rude and dismissive said no as the food had been tasted by us. I went to the bar staff as I was not happy. I showed him the burger and said I had not been asked how I wanted it cooked and was informed that all burgers are cooked medium and it states this on the menu. I returned to my table and reread the menu and there is a small box easily missed stating this. I feel this could be highlighted maybe in red etc. As it happens our burgers did not comply with their own statement. We asked a nember of staff for boxes and advised them we would have to bring the burgers home and cook them ourselves. A customer focused establishment at this point would be embarrased and offer a solution. None was forthcoming, they gave us boxes though. We went home and cooked the burgers, they were peppery/spicy, lots of grizzle, not tasty at all, ended up in the bin. Salad was good. Colesaw was good The chicken wings and fries were nice. Nice pub inside. Pity about service.

Had a great evening in The Alex on Saturday. Nice chilled vibe in the garden. Friendly staff. Food came quickly. Burgers were amazing... Would highly recommend the veggie Mex Burger. Proper kick to it and hard to believe it was veggie. Complements to the chefs. Will def come again :)

Much underrated back street pub. Always have decent guest beers on, and staff are very knowledgeable. Did not sample food offering.

Social club met in the back room beside the garden. Lovely comfortable location, food and drinks available. Would definitely visit again!

This is an Awesome place, their Garden is lovely ! Perfect for a Team Dinner/Lunch. They provide a good range of Vegetarian options as well. The Burgers were very good, the only reason for just a 4 star rating is, Me being keen on knowing their consistency, So I ll have to visit them a few more times to provide a much analysed rating

Nice and cozy pub to go to during the weekday as it is relatively quiet. Plenty of space and even when it's a bit more chilly you can sit outside as they have heaters.

A lovely pub that also serves food. Indoor and outdoor seating. The food was good, burgers, chicken, steak and starters with dessert. The food was hot and delicious a nice cider too. Very reasonable priced.

Went in last night for burgers, they were excellent with good veggie and vegan swap outs if you require. But what really impressed was the staff. Friendly quick service. As we know, the UK staff shortage is real, and we'd had some pretty lackluster service on the 2 stops we'd made before here. But a note for the manager of the Alex, the crew you had on the 21st April between 6 and 7 are ace. And know the best cheese jokes. I can give no higher praise.

This was the 5th burger of the month for us ... Chips... Fries ... Some say it is the same thing, people might say it all tastes the same... But, please, fries here are by far the best fries or chips🙂 in Cambridge! Recommend!!!

The staff behind the bar are so friendly and helpful. There are plenty of large areas to sit. We had the Philly burger with chips. Delicious! And only £12! Very happy customers 😄!

The pub, the atmosphere and people working there are nice. They also have a big garden in the back and are dog friendly. But the food was greasy, bad quality and took ages to arrive. More than 30 min for some fries and chicken wings, and another 30 for the mains. So go there to drink but not to eat in my opinion! Food prices are quite low, maybe we should have expected the outcome.

A place with superb burgers and a fine beer collection (they have Blue Moon!). Too bad they don't do the chicken Parm any longer, but the fact that the menu changes every now and then is most welcome.

Nice PUB with great atmosphere. They have a back yard for summer (it's prepared for winter too) and a beautiful decoration inside. Food is amazing, hummus and hamburgers really recommended.

Burger was so so. Nothing special. Staff was not wearing masks and so it didn't make us feel comfortable

We had gathered for a Christmas meal in the garden Room. The room looked great with the Christmas decorations- not over done, but very suitably festive. The food was served a fair time after the time we requested in our pre-booking, which didn't bother us, but something to bare in mind. The vegans in the party were communicated with clearly and the changes made to the vegan courses were all very well received. The only negative was the ice cream desert course - a few who had it were not convinced by the vodka poured on top! All in all though, a great experience that is highly recommended for the price

Had a Christmas dinner with my team today, excellent food beer and service, totally recommended

The Sunday roast was delicious, especially the nut roast! We even got cranberry sauce when we asked for it. Only the carrots and parsnips were on a hard side. They have a good selection of beers. The fireplace was nicely roaring and provided much needed warmth. The high tables and stools were not the most comfortable. Overall a great pub.
