The Albion in Islington

bad service and the food came 1 hour late... and it was cold.

The pub itself is lovely and there is a great atmosphere. We went for a sunday roast and while it was decent, it was not worth the price tag. 1 slice of carrot, 1 slice of parsnip, some roast potatoes, and the meat (or in my case the vegan option), plus a yorkshire. It felt a bit scimpy for the price. The vegan butternut squash wellington was fine, but the slice was small and it tasted overwhelmingly of truffle and not much else. I would recommend the pub, but not really the food.

We had been looking forward to coming here for a roast for a while, I don't know if it was because it's game day and the pub was super busy but we were barely acknowledged when we arrived and throughout our entire booking. Staff were rushing around not making eye contact with anybody and nobody was really looking after our table so we didn't manage to order until an hour after we sat down. The roasts are expensive and the price doesn't reflect the quality. The food was rushed to be cleared because they needed the table back so we had to insist on ordering dessert with the threat that we might have to move outside to eat it, the chocolate ganache was truly horrible in both presentation and taste. I rarely leave reviews and I've worked in hospitality my whole life so I feel for the team if they were understaffed but £150 for a table of three with no alcoholic drinks and having to beg to be served means I wouldn't recommend coming here and I won't be rushing to come back.

The service was a little slow. Yes, they were busy and they did apologise it took so long for our roasts to arrive, but then they took a long time to come back once we’d finished and to take payment. We had to go up to the bar to pay in the end.

Sunday roast was lovely! Only minor complaint would be that the sides are too small for the price. We tired the beef and lamb both perfectly cooked and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing!

Great food, lovely setting. Hopefully the ladies loos will be fixed soon.

The starters were excellent, fish and chips good and sticky toffee lovely. However, the burger was poor. A small, tight, overcooked patty with a small amount of cheese and some iceberg lettuce with the chunky chips on a white plate looked more likely to found in a motorway service station. I queried it with a server but apparantly that's how it is supposed to be served. When most pubs have realised even should get some thought and care, this just seemed out of place. As did the experience when leaving. Three members of staff behind the bar not serving at that time and the server for our section walking towards us as we got to the door yet no one felt it polite to say a thanks or goodbye when customers are leaving. Small things but they make a difference to the experience.

A lovely local gastropub that hasn't lost the 'pub' bit. Very good 'comfort food-plus' in a nice ambience. Pleasant, unobtrusive service. Not too bad value. Bar could have done with one or two more ales on tap.

It was a busy Saturday at The Albion, the initial service was a bit slow, but we got there in the end. The food was good and we weren't hurried to leave the table.

Meal was very slow. I don’t think our waitress out the order in. Steak was medium but was brought as rare. Had to return. Forgot bread. Biggest issue is that I asked the restaurant to seat me inside the restaurant as I did not want to be by the door ways. Request completely ignored. Table I was seated at was in the middle of two door ways.

The Albion used to be amazing - absolutely one of the best in London. Now it's just an above-avergae gastro-pub. Which is a shame.

Truly awful. I ignored the recent reviews and wished I hadn’t -I have been visiting the pub for >30 years and thought I knew better. Seated outside (opentable said they don’t book tables outside) on a cold November day, half the heaters not working (“gas is coming next week”). Waited an hour and a half for food after ordering. Lovely apologetic manager but service woeful otherwise. Food was nice enough when it finally arrived but did not compensate for dreadful overall experience. Saw other guests asking for cups of boiling water to warm their freezing hands!

What a shame. The Sunday Roast used to be so good here. I last came to the Albion in the beginning of 2018. I left thinking that the roast was one of the best in North London. Unfortunately this wasn’t the same experience this time. I had the lamb roast; the portion of lamb wasn’t great; it came with an almost endless amount of red cabbage, what I assume was parsnip mash, a Yorkshire pudding (which was great), roast potatoes which tasted like they were cooked from frozen and some carrots. I asked for mint sauce and extra gravy which was given at no extra cost. There was twice as much vegetables on the plate than the meat and the majority of them were very average. My friends plate was similar - they had the corn-fed poussin which was slightly pink near to the bone. In all the meal came to a reasonable £58. The service was pretty good. The venue still looks great. Such a shame that the food isn’t what it once was.

The roast wasn't very nice, the sides were late, and the service was rubbish. Very expensive for the quality of the food/ service.

All hype and no substance. The food was over cooked, the service was indifferent, the wine list un exciting, the price was a little too high for so little. It is basically a Sunday lunch factory.

Terrible service and management

Used to have quite good food but is now hit or miss. The burger was overcooked and quite dry, and as a starter their “marinated salmon” should have been labelled baked or pan seared, since that’s what it was. Was expecting it to be cold. The ambience in the back garden is great but for food, sadly the standards have slipped.

Sunday lunch with friends after a long lockdown. Arrived early - no problem, seated straight away. Staff were fabulous. Anca couldn’t do enough for us and made our visit that little bit extra special. Food was fabulous, clean plates all round. Atmosphere was very relaxed in lovely covered garden. Will definitely be back.

We had lunch at the Albion (rear garden) today. It was our second outside dining experience since lockdown has eased. Prior to CoVOD we would lunch often at the Albion. We were presented with two sirloin steaks (cost £18.50)per steak which were nothing short of appalling. Full with fat and gristle, warm on arrival, thin cut cheap frying steak I think. Generally, it was appalling. I dont think I have ever seen such pook steaks. I am also have some experience of steaks because I worked for 3 years in a steak restaurant as a waiter. The whole meal was written off by the Manager. Albion-please get your MOJO back. You used to be a great restaurant. I rarely write reviews, but this deserved this one

Probably one of the most expensive pints in Islington if not the UK. Stopped there for a few quite beers. Didn't have a drinks menu so ordered Estrella which I could see through the window. Took ages to come. Innocently, or rather stupidly, tapped my card without asking the price. Didn't find out until a couple of days later that I was being charged £7.82 a pint. Not only was I being ripped off for the beer which was £6.95 a pint, extortionate in itself, the bar people were adding a 'discretionary' service charge to round it up nicely to £7.82. Surely anything at my discretion I should be informed of? Complete rip off. Do not line these people's pockets. It encourages them.

The Albion is another fave haunt of mine is Islington. Very friendly with dog treats always on hand. Fantastic staff and the garden is massive! Super cool when the weather permits. Their scotch eggs are possibly the best in London. 10/10

Always great, even in these Covid times, they do it in style.

Reservamos una mesa para las 18:15 y nos informaron que, dados los números reducidos como resultado de Covid, teníamos un espacio de 1 hora y 30 minutos. Esto estaba bien y era comprensible dadas las circunstancias.Llegamos a las 18:15, tuvimos que hacer cola durante unos 10 minutos afuera para sentarnos y luego nos informaron que tendríamos que devolver la mesa a las 19:30 (lo que nos da aproximadamente 1 hora). El servicio no fue particularmente rápido (aunque por lo general no habría sido un problema tan agradable tener algo de tiempo para charlar). Solo tuvimos un plato principal y un postre; sin embargo, estábamos a la mitad de comer postre cuando nos dijeron que tendríamos que irnos ya que nuestro tiempo se había acabado.Entiendo completamente que se deben hacer cambios dadas las restricciones vigentes, pero si van a dar espacios de tiempo tan cortos, la velocidad del servicio debe adaptarse a eso. Habría sido imposible en el tiempo disponible tener 3 cursos. Es una pena, ya que es un pub encantador, pero no volveré pronto.

Four of us booked for early evening meal in August. Food was excellent for all and wine also good. Nice ambience in outside garden area: very quiet. Service was good. Will go back if we can get good enough weather to be outside!

Estaba disfrutando de un día en Londres y necesitaba un lugar para cargar mi teléfono, tuve una suerte increíble de que tuvieran un asiento junto a un enchufe, sirvieron rápido y con una sonrisa, la chica que me atendió (¿crees que era Angélica?) Fue muy amable y eficiente. Las cervezas eran excelentes y el Camembert estaba para morirse. Todo el personal fue excepcional, a pesar de estar ocupado, todos se tomaron el tiempo para saludar y asegurarse de que estuviera bien. ¡Buen trabajo chicos!

Reservamos para tener una mesa para el cumpleaños de un miembro de la familia. La reserva máxima era de seis, pero somos una familia de ocho. Hicimos dos reservas de mesa por separado y preguntamos si podíamos tener dos mesas cerca una de la otra, ya que somos una familia. Por teléfono nos dijeron que esto no era un problema, al llegar me dijeron que esto era un problema y que estaba sentado aparte, lo que nos impedía celebrar juntos el cumpleaños de mi hermana menor. Colocándonos a propósito en lados separados del pub.Luego tuvimos problemas de facturación en los que procedieron a intentar cobrarnos por los pedidos de otra persona antes de encontrar el nuestro. Esto arruinó nuestros planes de cumpleaños y recomiendo encarecidamente ir a otro lugar si desea miembros del personal razonables y atentos.

Gran almuerzo de domingo como siempre. Friendly Bunch, ambiente inmejorable. Realmente amo el interior. El rosbif era increíble, pero tuve que pedir salsa extra, aunque me gusta nadar. A veces puede ser un poco esperar en las comidas, pero como es de esperar en los días más ocupados. Realmente disfruté de las nuevas adiciones de cerveza artesanal en el bar desde mi última visita antes del cierre. Volveremos pronto y muy recomendable.

Solía usar este pub hace 50 años, muy emocionado de ver los cambios. Gran bienvenida muy céntrica pero cálida. Se muestra a una mesa de jardín, y debo decir que el jardín parece una imagen. El nuestro era el almuerzo, pero notamos muchas luces que deben verse bien por la noche. Nos dieron la opción de quedarnos afuera o adentro, tomamos la decisión correcta adentro ya que 20 minutos después se abrieron los cielos. El servicio fue realmente bueno y mi única sugerencia constructiva es que la lista del menú debe ser más amplia. Unos pocos platos más de pescado y carne habrían estado bien para los platos principales. Volvería si este fuera el caso.

Había reservado una mesa para tres en el jardín para el sábado 25 de julio. Cancelé el día alrededor de las 4 pm debido al clima. Llovía mucho. ¡Acabo de ver que me cobran 30 libras por esta cancelación! ! ! ! Dada la actual crisis de salud y covid, esta es una política realmente mala. ¿Cómo soy responsable del clima? Quería sentarme afuera por covid.

Gracias a todo el personal de The Albion anoche por cuidar tan bien de nosotros. Excelente servicio y deliciosa comida en el jardín que se veía hermoso. Mi única queja sería ver en qué dirección sopla el viento y mover a todos los fumadores en consecuencia. Aparte de eso (que realmente no arruinó nuestra velada) lo pasamos muy bien y todos no podrían haber sido más amables, especialmente cuando me las arreglé para dejar mi vino tinto por todas partes. Ya estoy deseando que llegue la próxima vez.

We had our wedding reception at the Albion on 29.02 and hired the beautiful private dining room and saloon area for welcome drinks. The Albion team, in particular David and Agata, were extremely helpful in the run up to the wedding, helping arrange table plans, coordinating cake and flower deliveries and generally sorting things out! The day itself was wonderful, the room looked beautiful, drinks were flowing, service seamless and food was good! Our waitress ( Alana I think) was brilliant and looked after us very well! Thank you Albion!

Dog friendly! I had the jackfruit burger, it was a little too dry for my taste and a little hard to eat as the jackfruits were in square-ish chunks, it made it hard to eat it like a normal burger. However my husband enjoyed his big meaty burger along with his craft beer. He said that the beer selection is amazing and he would come again for the beer choices.

The design, decor and location of the Albion are outstanding, the service was quick, responsive and very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Great place, great value. Highly recommend.

Fantastic atmosphere, great service and excellent food! We tried the delicious parmigiani, very fresh bresaola, even the fish was cooked to perfection! A hidden gem.

I had the privilege of having lunch at the Albion last Friday (6th March 2020). We were a group of seven and the Albion prepared an amazing sharing menu for us. The food was extraordinary, the whole table was amazed by the quality, the exquisite taste and the wonderful selection. Even the dessert which was an incredible Tiramisu was so good that I ended up taking what was left home. The service was phenomenal and I would like to thank our server Alex for taking such good care of us. It truly was one of the best meals I have has in London. A huge thank you to the whole team...

Amazing pub with very good food and excellent service. The quality and imagination of the food (home cured bresaola!) is far above any pub across London. The vast garden in the back is an oasis. All of this is hidden behind the unassuming entrance in a beautiful part of Islington.

Came for dinner before seeing Albion at the Almeida Theatre. Service was super friendly and efficient and the food (salads, steak pie and burger) much better than average for a pub.

Mi esposo y yo vinimos a almorzar tarde y fue absolutamente excelente. La comida llegó a tiempo y estaba deliciosa: el vino recomendado por Alex era tan bueno que seguimos pidiendo más. Tuvieron que trasladarnos cuando llegó otra reserva que se hizo sin esfuerzo. Alex, el anfitrión, fue muy impresionante y se notaba que realmente le importaba incluso preguntando cómo estaba mi espalda, ya que mi esposo tuvo que irse a buscar analgésicos. Cuando llegamos a pagar, recibimos un cupón de mis padres para nuestro segundo aniversario de bodas y nos felicitaron a nosotros y a otro miembro del equipo por lo que fue un toque encantador. Nos lo pasamos tan bien que lo recomendaría a cualquiera y sin duda volveremos.

this weekend we visited a tried and tested favourite but we were greatly upset. from 2 cloudy pints of beer to a tiny plate of over cooked tough steak nothing went well. when your pieces of steak come from what looks like 4 animals it doesnt bode well. i guess but could be wrong this was pre cooked and kept warm, whatever it was tiny ,expensive and horrible. back to a pie i think on my next visit

The service was friendly, the Sunday roast was fine...but nothing else went well. They plonked down our plates without asking if we needed anything else (we did: no sauces, hardly any gravy and they’d forgotten my Yorkshire pudding). Despite the reservation saying nothing about duration, we were brought the bill without asking for it after about an hour and a quarter and thrown off our table not long after that. No time to even be asked if we wanted dessert! £82 down after a meal for 2; I’d go somewhere else next time you fancy a roast in Islington.

Lovely staff who were so welcoming and attentive (especially to my dog!) Food was delicious, really lovely menu with interesting seasonal dishes. Atmosphere was lovely, we were close to the fire and really cosy!

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch, very busy but you wouldn’t know it. Service first class as was our meal, everything tasty and cooked to perfection!

What a lovely looking pub and maybe we just had an unfortunate bad experience. Wasn’t particularly welcoming, paid £10 for a small glass of Malbec, then had to go in search of someone to find which table was ours. Said table wasn’t ready so had to wait for that, and whilst waiting at the bar had staff cluttering around me with dirty glasses to the point I had to move. Waited a while to be served. Roast was pretty cold, very minimal gravy. Asked for more gravy and the pub must have been on rations, especially with the horseradish for two where the serving was barely the size of a tea spoon. Ordered desert and when it arrived it smelt of burning. The sticky toffee pudding was rock hard and had been burnt to a cinder... the staff then bought two more servings out! Bit of a disaster

Amazing as always!! The food was fantastic, the environment is lovely as well. It’s a classic in London. Don’t miss out this magical spot in the middle of Islington!

We set up a Friday night family dinner as a number of us were in London visiting two members of the family who live locally. The atmosphere is great and the service is excellent. Food range isn't massive but the quality is great. Nice and quiet and the open fires made is more welcoming.

The venue is amazing, perfect for Cosy evenings in winter and nice bottle of rosé on the terrace in summer. One of the cutest pub in London ! Unfortunately the food is not great, and slightly expensive for what it is. I’d recommend to go there for drinks and nibbles, maybe not for a fancy dinner

The roasts here are superb and the yorkshires are really tasty. The pub has a lovely ambience and great service too. Highly recommend.

Nice, very busy place with beatifull garden. But they can't cook properly. I went for a company Christmas dinner and left dissapointed. I have never eaten before partidge so I was very exited about it. Instead of something delicious we got something half roasted(uncooked) what I with friends called very bloody pigeon!!!! Funny but from a place like this I expected much much much more......

Absolutely delicious! Imagine it is normally very quiet but sat next to large table of rather merry office workers (or at least collegues) having a party. Wonderful food!

I took my girlfriend to The Albino for birthday dinner yesterday. The restaurant was warm and cosy. The staff was very polite and helpful, always had lovely smiles on their faces.

Had lunch here yesterday for my birthday, as I fancied a pub lunch rather than restaurant setting. Had a great time, seated in a private booth, very friendly waiting staff, buzzing atmosphere & good food. Would recommend

This is more a place for having a drink. Although the food was good, the whole atmosphere feels more geared towards having a drink.

This place is kind of hidden away from the main strret. Pleasant staff and good food. That sticky toffy was delicious!

Really impressed with the changes made with their cooking! I was quite reluctant in returning after a horrible food experience some months back but I was glad we gave it another go:-) my partner and I had a skate fish and Crockett last night when we went there. It was beautiful* well cooked and seasoned. Hopefully all their menu items reflect this changes! But a sure try is we had*

Being an enthusiastic foodie I can vouch that THE ALBINO serves the best Sunday roast. The meat was juicy and cooked precisely to my liking, the selection of veggies and the gravy was to die for. But the cherry on the top was the apple crumble pie, it was baked to perfection. Will definitely be back for some more

Soy Alvin, un labradoodle de 6 meses de edad y he tratado de entrar en algunos pubs en mi época. Muchos han dicho que no. El Albion realmente me dio la bienvenida, y la joven camarera me abrazó y me dio un tazón de agua (y me ofrecieron galletas, yummie). Era lunes, por lo que había mucha menos gente que los viernes y sábados, pero todos son amigables en Albion. Me encanta su gran jardín, pero también se me permitió entrar donde me gustaba. Una experiencia total de meneo de cola y estoy deseando que llegue nuestro próximo viaje. PD Los humanos con los que estuve, que han estado yendo y viniendo durante 25 años, realmente disfrutaron de su cerveza (cerveza y amarga), ñoquis, pescado y papas fritas, y el vino tinto de la casa (la agradable camarera nos dio el sabor de algunos vinos tintos, todos parecían muy por encima del estándar de pub, aunque mi compañero humano no es enófilo)

Came from Reading festival. Was great to chill out and eat some amazing food. Great staff, TV and music in the background.

Great girlie lunch here. If it's a sunny weekend in London, you can't go wrong with this place. One of the best beer garden's in North London. Really attentive and friendly service in what was a very busy lunch sitting, so well done to them. Food really good. Highly recommended.

This place deserves a higher rating than the current 3.7! Food, coffee and hard working staff were great

We've been to the Albion many times for meals before, and have always loved it. However, last Sunday the service was abysmal. I had booked a table for 7 people in advance, providing my card details and a pre-order. When we got there, the waitress didn't acknowledge the booking and said 'oh ok you can have this one', showing us to a table far too big for us that we had to rearrange. No one came to take a drinks order for half an hour, and after three unsuccessful tries at flagging waiters down we resorted to the bar. Then when we mentioned the pre-order we just got a quizzical look, and it was another 20 minutes before that order was found. Then, after a long wait, the mains came out - and the starters in the pre-order never arrived. Ordering drinks to the table continued to be impossible (I've never got such grumpy looks from waitresses!) and we asked two people for some condiments with our roasts - these never came. After dinner I managed to order a coffee, but this took 50 minutes to arrive. All in all, a terrible showing! It's a relatively expensive Sunday lunch option and I don't think we'll be back in a hurry.

Excellent evening with friends and family! The rooms are very nice, and the waiting staff very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend the asparagus starter, the gnocchi and the haddock fish and chips! Slight minus, you cannot book online for more than 8 people, and getting the pub on the phone is not easy.

I booked a room and part of the garden for a birthday party a number of weeks ago. On the actual day, the sun was shining and it was absolutely rammed. Unfortunately this meant huge queues at the bar and people sitting at the tables I’d reserved. Angelica the bar manager explained that four staff had phoned in sick and had left the pub stretched to its limits as she was frantically running around trying to sort things out. I was bracing myself for a disaster when something wonderful happened. Realising that my birthday party of around 40 people was potentially going to be ruined, Angelica rolled up her sleeves, donned a superhero cape and made the most Herculean effort in constantly bringing us drinks and food whilst continuing to organise everything else in the pub as well. It was a really amazing effort as the stress she was under that night was beyond horrific. So I have to give a huge shout out to Angelica and her team for making my birthday a night to remember when the wheels could have so easily come off had it been someone less caring and dedicated to their job.

Terrible, terrible experience at the Albion on 11/7/2019. We booked a table for 7 and when we arrived we were told to "sit anywhere" (even though we had booked). There were no tables for 7 so we had to take one for 5. The restaurant was totally over-run, not nearly enough staff, they wouldn't make certain drinks at the bar, they ran out of ice, it took about 20 minutes to order a beer at the bar. The bar staff that were working couldn't open a bottle of wine with a cork. When we sat down, the waiters and staff left us alone at the table for about an hour despite us asking to order multiple times - they kept saying they were "too busy". We ordered a bottle of wine which didn't arrive for over 30 minutes (and we had to chase 3 or 4 times). When we ordered food, it took over an hour to come. All the food was terrible. The dishes tasted soapy as if they had just come out of the dishwasher, the food all looked like it had been microwaved from ready-made meals. No one was happy with their meal. The burgers were totally awful - not sure how you ruin burgers, but they managed to. Some of the meals were wrong including a salad which had about 6 ingredients on the menu which arrived as a plate of soggy leaves. What made the experience awful was that the staff were extremely rude to us (and everyone around us) throughout the night, said things like "just take it" when the wrong salad came and even "get the f**k out of the way" when we were standing waiting to pay. When we politely chased for food or wine we got rolled eyes or rude comments back. There was no apology or acknowledgement that it wasn't a good experience. Would never go back and would thoroughly recommend you never go to this pub!!!

We popped in before visiting Hampton Court Palace to have lunch as a family (2 adults and 3 kids) and had a great meal, atmosphere and fantastic service from Ryan. Nice range of English ales and food is a reasonable price. A place you must visit if you are in the area. Thank you! #hamptoncourtpalace

As a regular of The Albion I have been somewhat disappointed of late. Whilst food service is fine, service at the bar is awful. I went in for a drink last week and literally had to wait about 25 minutes to be served leaving my partner wondering where I had actually gone! There was another guy next to me who had been waiting longer and a couple even pushed in front of us. The barman still served them before he got to me and the other fella. I wouldn’t have been so concerned with the wait if it was an overly busy weekend but it was hardly busy as I know it. There were at least four members of staff at the bar, some of which seemed utterly clueless around how to pour a pint, make a cocktail and prepare other drinks. Not only did they seem clueless but I saw one of them casually looking at his phone, another too busy trying to do fancy bar tricks and a third as quick as a sloth.

Went here for Sunday Roast after being recommended by a friend .... food didn’t disappoint it was delicious the roast beef & potatoes were spot on , the only shame was the service ... several waiters were serving all over the garden rather than having their own areas or tables which caused many mix ups & mis communication ... missed two sides off our food , asked for extra gravy that didn’t arrive , very slow to top up your drinks or check your table was happy or needed anything more ...

We were six in total, four adults and two children. It was cold so we had booked a table indoors, just as well because it was packed with a great, friendly atmosphere. Whilst we waited for our meal we had a few plates of sourdough bread and olives, great.

Visited for Saturday lunch with family. Originally sat outside in the fantastic beer garden....but British weather sent us indoors. I ordered the chicken schitzel, which came with a salad and chunky chips on the side. The other half had sausage and mash. Family had salads and fish and chips. All portions were large and served quickly. The staff are young, trendy and beautiful! We had a small problem with a pudding, which was sorted immediately. The staff were really lovely. The pub has a fab, old yet modern feel, We all enjoyed our meals and would definitely recommend. Came to approx £30 per head, 5 adults, a child plus 2 puddings, coffee and alcohol.

We went to the restaurant for an early dinner. Had the chance to enjoy a very nice meal in the patio. Excellent service: very quick and friendly despite the crowd on a sunny Saturday evening! Thanks Anthony & team for the great service!
