The Alankar in Luton

Had a lovely evening. Food was amazing. Hosts Sapna and Sanjay very attentive. Will definitely visit again.

We had already booked another restaurant one evening but decided to switch at the last minute to Alankar as the reviews were good but my! were we disappointed ! Either that or I must have had covid as my tastebuds were not enjoying themselves 😔 On arrival we were taken to our table which just had a tablecloth and nothing else- no plates, serviettes, cutlery, glasses as you would expect in any restaurant. The limited staff seemed a little flustered and were struggling to meet demand (bearing in mind they had not long opened). The restaurant had no ambience and was cold and noisy. The plates arrived and were cold. The mixed grill lacked flavour, the kachori was over cooked and the chick peas in the channa masala were hard and tasted uncooked. Naan was a bit doughy. I’m not sure what has gone wrong here as we have eaten at this restaurant a few years ago a number of times and even attended a family party in the function room upstairs. The only positive I can say is that the staff were pleasant and friendly. Regrettably we shan’t be eating here again

Second to none service as soon as you walk in the door - the food was also super tasty and freshly made. Tried the cassava starter and although i'd never heard of it... wow, best starter I've ever tasted. You wont be disappointed and added bonus having private off road parking. Wish we lived closer but will visit the next time we are in the area!

Alankar is a hidden gem in Luton - the food is spot on and their themed nights are lots of fun. I’ve been here with my kids who can be picky eaters, but the owners and chefs tailored their food to be less spicier and they loved it! The chilli garlic Mogo is a must and I particularly love their lamb kebabs and chicken tikka. I’ve also been with friends and have had a fab night vibing in the bar area. It literally has something for everyone and will definitely be returning again. Thanks once again to the owners Sanjay and Sapna !

I'm ethnically Indian, born in Luton and really enjoy my food! I have had takeways and eaten at Alankar about six times in the last year. I can state with absolute confidence that this restaurant has the best a la carte Indian food in the Luton area. The menu has a very wide range and food is cooked to your requirements as requested exceptionally well. I find starters are the best, followed by the main courses which are also cooked with very good flavours. As with most Indian restaurants, desserts are limited, but I'm personally not a big fan of them and have always over eaten by then! The place is run by a very pleasant couple, Sanjay and Sapna. They provide an ambiance you'll love taking your family and/or friends to. At the bar, which has plethora of drinks to cater for just about every palate, Sanjay's energetic and friendly nature is second to none as a restaurant owner. Sapna will make all guests accompanied with you feel most welcome and will always pay particular attention to family elders to ensure they enjoy their food. All staff are most hospitable. Live entertainment evenings are very good value. I have been in larger groups (8-12) with family and friends twice at Diwali and Holi recently. The live music entertainers provided seem very conscientiously selected and both nights were truly memorable. The buffet format at such events is well organised and has adequate variety. My special dietary requirements were very very well catered for at my request at the Holi buffet. The food understandably is not to the a la carte standard but is still good. The entertainment provided more than makes up for the slight drop in the standard of food though.

Excellent. Delicious food. Well presented. Brilliant service. The staff are friendly and always ready to help. Been there for meals, Diwali, Holi and other celebrations. Very well organised. Lovely atmosphere. Meal prices are similar to other restaurants.

Had dinner at Alankar yesterday. Excellent food. Authentic cooked by a North Indian chef. One star less because it’s location away from Motorway makes it difficult to stop by for a quick dinner while on the go.

Went to Alankar with the wife and the little one on a weekend and can say that the food was really delicious and the atmosphere was great as there was a DJ playing some nice tunes. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a takeaway before we left so that we can enjoy it at home too.

At last the need to travel to London for a decent Indian is no longer needed thanks to Alankar. Food? Amazing!! quality, superb taste, excellent variety whether veg or non veg Drinks? Brilliant!! and the owners are always experimenting keeping it exciting every time we visit Service? Couldn’t ask for better, welcoming, friendly Overall? Always leave feeling like we have a had a great night out!! Welll done Sanjay and Sapna!! Can’t wait to come back again

The food is incredible. We enjoy an tapas style Indian which is not a common amongst Indian restaurants and this is the place for it. Our favourites on the menu are the sheekh kebabs, lamb chops, jeera wings, paneer shashlik and masala chips ! The food is fresh, always delivered sizzling and has great flavour. And if you like a cocktail or two its got the bar and range of drinks for that too. Sapna & Sanjay are excellent hosts and always for us recommend a dish to try which allows us to explore the menu I would certainly recommend the restaurant to anybody who enjoys good quality, Indian food served fresh, hot and with a smile.

My friend fancied Indian food today for her birthday so we thought to try Alankar. I am truly amazed with the quality of the food! Being Indian myself I have tried many indian restaurants which more or less seem to have a similar taste but the quality and taste of this place is now in my top 3 favourite restaurants! The vibe is amazing, we sat outdoors with a lovely heater and I must say the service was outstanding! Food came on time (even though they had several orders for delivery from the mopeds that kept coming) staff understood what I wanted (very important for me) and the food was so tasty I ordered their chilli paneer again! Hats off to the chef. We had chilli paneer, jeera rice, chicken tandoori and tarka daal (to die for) and a lovely onion salad (typical Indian I am). They had adhered to all the COVID safety regulations that could be in place and it was truly a magical evening! Very clean restaurant, pleasant food, pleasant ambiance, pleasant staff and reasonably priced. I love their lighting too. Considering the many restaurants in Luton, Alankar has been my favourite and I am a total foodie! Thank you Alankar for such a wonderful evening, can’t wait to go again!

Because of the times in which we live we decided to get a dilivery tonight from the Alankar, at first we were bemused at not finding the usual menu, however the food tonight was excellent, truly good authentic Indian food, a rare restarant in Luton where most are Bengali, very good but its nice and refreshing to have a change.The food was amazing and the information from the new management was informative will definitely be back, best meal for a very long time.

Absolutely deverstated to no safety measures where in place due to current epidemic of covid... no track and trace in order like other places or safe wearing of any form of protection. Thought safty measures are everywhere else in restaurants.. but this place need to get there grip on. Manager really needed to look into this before opening up to customers.

Visited for the first time in 10 years. Always used to stop off here on way back to Leicester from England Wembley games, because the food was so good. Pleased to report food still excellent ! Very tasty meal (lamb Rogan Josh), just the right amount of heat and great flavour. Good service too. It has been there since the 1980s so it must be doing something right. A very enjoyable pre-match meal, 5 minutes walk to Luton Town FC. Recommended.

The Alankar never fails to impress! My Husband and I had the perfect evening at the Alankar; our special occasion restaurant for an early Valentine's treat. As always, the food was cooked to perfection and was so tasty. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. We were even offered a drink on the house. Looking forward to our next special occasion at the Alankar!

All the hot food was good (starters and the main courses) freshly made and served hot, although some of the main course portions seemed a little on the small side. Most of the deserts that were on on offer were just frozen deserts (not made on site). I was disappointed with the service. On two occasions (starter and main course), the waiter started to clear up before everybody had finished eating. He should have waited until everybody at the table had finished eating. When asked what herbal teas were available, he was a bit vague on the options available which suggested he did not know. We used the Meerkat 2 for 1 offer on starters, main courses and desserts but they refused to give us 2 desserts for the price of one, despite me showing quite clearly on my phone that the 2 for 1 offer did include deserts. In the end, we did not bother arguing just paid extra for the deserts. The meal for five of us cost £75 which included five starters, four mains, 3 desserts, 1 wine and 2 liqueur coffees even after using the 2 for 1 voucher on starters and mains.

Had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The food was hot and tasted fantastic. The staff were very attentive and was always checking we were ok and was there anything else we wanted. Would go again.

We had a family meal for 6 last weekend and found the side dishes excellent but the main courses OK if a little bland. The staff were very courteous,helpful and the restaurant was reasonably busy.

we booked this for special events in our family. we were 16 of us. our bill came to 270 pounds and all most all of us left hungry. portions are are so small that 8.95 biryani our 3 year daughter finished and she still wanted more. just ask them to send a picture of thier portions. if you going there please eat at home and go or you will have to come home and cook again. staff was very nice. atmosephere was good. i will never ever go there again.

I visited Luton with my partner for his birthday as we were going to an event. We stayed in a hotel a few houses away from this restaurant so decided to visit here for our dinner. The whole experience from tbe minute we walked in was great and very authentic. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient and we were seated and served immediately. The restuarant was very clean and offered a wide range of drink options which was very impressive. The food arrived in good time and was of an excellent standard I have the garlic chicken masala and my partner had the chicken tikka both were amazing! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, and was grateful for the experience as our hotel experience was unfortunately not so great! Thank you!

Alankar Indian restaurant and function room is on the outskirts of the Luton city centre. They serve a wide variety of traditional Indian dishes. They have an alcohol license and the food is very good and reasonably priced.

We decided to have dinner in this restaurant in Sunday night. The furniture is very nice and the service is kind. We take two types of chicken’s dishes, rice with ginger and other vegetables, bread and a salad. Delicious, and very good the yogurt’s sauce too. At the end an indian ice cream, sorry i don’t remember all the ingredients. Go to this restaurant!

Five of us on the way back from a tough business day turned off the M1 and found this oasis. Friendly welcome, good and prompt service, we all had different dishes and commented on how good the food was. Not expensive either. It hit the spot.

Came to eat alone. Well received and fine start. After first serving it took a loooong time to finish and pay. Not the most attentative service. The lamb dish tasted good but the meat was tough to chew and actually not ok. Be aware of the price of side dishes, it doubles the main's price.
