The Acle Steak in Broadland

Really lovely warm welcome from very helpful and accommodating staff. Food was delicious, couldn't fault it, and extensive gluten free options, for me, the ceoliac, a gem of a place.

Stopped by on Saturday evening after a long day hiking by chance and was very impressed. Decor is good and atmosphere just right. Staff are excellent and service spot on. The steaks very very very good and the sides just as top tier . Can’t fault the place and will definitely return - from my visit can highly recommend.

They have stolen from me! Despite numerous request for a refund, I have received no communications. I stayed the night and thought the meal would be charged to my room. Having checked out early, I called and paid for my meal over the phone. I then discovered that the meal had been charged to my card on the night I had eaten. Hence I’ve paid twice and despite several requests for a refund, email responses from Benji have ceased and no refund has been forthcoming! Left a very sour taste in my mouth which is sad given my meal was nice!! Unusual situation that indicates a level of dishonesty associated with this business!

This was my first visit to the Kings Head in Acle since it became The Acle Steak. It was a very good experience, and I particularly commend service from our waiter, Benji (not sure if I've spelled his name correctly!). The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very congenial, with no annoying music or TV playing. My whole family enjoyed the evening and the food. Thank you to Benji and to the chef on the night of 27th August 2024. We will certainly be back.

During our stay on the Norfolk Broads, my family and I decided to visit the Acle Steak House, it was an excellent choice! Each of us ordered different dishes from the menu. We were all thoroughly impressed. The highlight was undoubtedly the Beef Wellington, which was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The staff were incredibly attentive, ensuring that we had everything we needed without being intrusive. Their friendly service added to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. Overall, it was a delightful experience, would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Never been to Acle Steak before but we will certainly be going back. Had a great lunch with good service and a friendly welcome. Would definitely recommend to anyone and we will be going back for an evening menu.

Dire. Relatively expensive simple meals. Cooked salmon returned as had far too much salt, replaced some time later with a much better example. Inedible rubber burger with burned toasted bun and overcooked chips left mostly untouched. Salad was ok. Staff uninterested and defensive. Will not be returning.

Whilst away with our touring caravan last week, I woke on the Sunday morning fancying a pub roast. Having spent half the morning ringing one of the local highly regarded pubs that never bothered to answer the phone and calling into another that was doing roasts for bookings but not walk-ins, we ended up here. Since there was a pretty awful review by a local resident, our expectations were quite low. We were in for a surprise! The menu prices at first glance seemed a tad on the pricey side. I ordered the half chicken and Wifey ordered the roast beef. When our plates arrived, the portion size was immense and the presentation was outstanding. The food was hot and beautifully cooked. We had absolutely no complaints about the service either, we found all of the staff attentive and very friendly. I’m so glad those other places were unable to accommodate us, I doubt they would have come close to this place. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at Acle Steak (The Kings Head). I cannot understand why locals would want to undermine this business; perhaps they had a sinister motive?

To keep it short. We have been boating on the broads and stumbled across this gem whole tired and hungry. We were pleasantly surprised at the calibre of food. I myself had pork belly and it was divine. 5 out of 5 stars.

Let me start from saying that we live in the village and would love for every shop, pub and other venue to succeed. We try to shop at the local shops as much as possible (butcher, hardware shop - new and old, cheese shop etc) and support businesses that we have because we live in a wonderful village and we want to keep it that way. This pub has been in many hands over the years and never really succeeded, which is a shame. We would like it to do so this time but we don't have very high hopes - here's why. When it first reopened with a fancy menu - rebranded as Acle Steak, we were sceptical and wanted to see what our friends and neighbours have to say before we decide to go. To be fair their opinions were not very high. We went there for drink few times but never for food. Finally this year, seems as their menu simplified - I guess expensive lobster dishes were bit much for our local residents - we just want an actual, real pub with good pub food. First time we went for food we had Sunday Roast, it was delicious but the service was as always lacking, the lady who served us was not interested in cleaning the table after main meal, there were several other tables inside and out that were not cleaned during our about 2hr stay. It's almost like they don't want people to come in. They also tried to overcharge us for the food. Second time we went for a Saturday menu, food again was excellent and service again was lacking, gentleman who served us was great. The lady who seems to be in charge (same one as on our previous visit) decided to play very loud music despite the fact we were the only two people in the restaurant area and wanted a quiet meal and a conversation. She put the music on and started to dance around, very unprofessional. Finally we asked the gentleman to turn it down or off, as we couldn't have any conversation, he did, the lady didn't seem too pleased. During out stay there has been few tables in the main bar area with dirty glasses on them, they were not cleared, they were only moved to the bar. Again, felt like they want to put people off from coming. They again tried to overcharge us for the food. Every time we walk in to the pub (probably 2-3 times a month) we feel like we are intruding (especially when this lady is there) or interrupting by just ordering drinks. We usually have 1 drink and leave, we sit outside if possible, we are quiet and don't bother anyone. This is not just our experience, we speak to people in the village and everyone says the same: We just want a good pub with solid pub food options - not a fancy lobster place - if you want to charge these prices you needs to provide high quality service to go with it - you don't. Staff and service are way below acceptable level, with few exceptions. The outside area is full of rubbish, including old Christmas tree and rubble and needs sorting out, grass needs cutting, old wooden benches and tables need replacing, I had few splinters to date. This place has a great potential, in the right hands it could be a fantastic village pub, that will be always full. I hope the company that runs it will soon realise their errors, employ someone who can successfully run it as a village pub and someone who is actually able to sort the garden out. If not, I'm afraid this pub will fail yet again. You have to listen to the locals, we will be the ones spending our money there out of season. New pub menu and new management are a must. Its a shame because the food we had both times was truly delicious, we just don't fancy coming to have to put up with unwelcoming staff (with exceptions) and shabby, dirty garden. There are other good pubs in the are that don't come with these problems.

We stayed 1 night as we were attending a nearby event. The room was perfectly fine with a very comfortable bed. Yes, the paint needed refreshing in places and we needed to take care when showering or using the sink basin, water goes everywhere. It wouldn't stop us staying there again. We had a meal and breakfast whilst there. All our food was tasty and plenty of it. The staff on duty were incredibly friendly and very helpful. A credit to the establishment.

The staff were really lovely and helpful. My room was clean and very well presented and modern. My dinner was beautifully made and really delicious. Breakfast was well cooked and filling. Overalll a 5* experience

It was the best breakfast we have had locally. Good ingredients and friendly staff. The restaurant is well paid out too.

My wife and I have driven past the Acle steak house quite frequently, we finally managed to stop and eat here a couple of days ago. The food was really very good, and in my opinion great value for the money, the service was great, we will definitely be eating here again. The quality of the food (in my opinion) was much better value than a meal we had at the Ivy restaurant in Norwich last week and at a quarter of the price.

We stayed at the Acle travelodge for a few nights at the weekend & went to the Acle steak house for a meal. And we weren’t disappointed, not only was the food good, but there was service to match, which is important when dining out. It’s well worth a visit if you’re in the area anytime. I’ll be back

I booked breakfast with Santa for myself and 5 grandchildren. The place was festively decorated and the grandchildren were so excited. The breakfast was amazing and my grandchildren, who range from 7 to 14yrs, commented on how lovely the food was. Even my fussy 9 year old amazed us by eating nearly all his scrambled eggs. Portions were generous with a wide range of breakfast choices including veggie. All value for money and they provided cookies and unlimited juice, tea and coffee. Santa arrived and and did not disappoint, he took time to speak to all the children and they received a gift of a very good book. He did not rush off but spent time so the children could go and chat with him and at the end got everyone singing jingle bells. Staff were really lovely and they made a real effort to make it a very special occasion. If they do this again next year i will definitely be booking. I will also be looking to book for dinner in the future and return to have a breakfast.

I never write reviews but this place definitely deserves one, absolutely incredible food, amazing service with friendly staff (Arwen was very kind and extremely welcoming) Steak cooked to perfection cannot fault one thing about our experience. Reasonably priced for a steakhouse. Overall an amazing experience and we will definitely be returning.

First time going since its opened was gorgeous meal steak was cooked perfectly and had such a great tase. very calm atmosphere staff where lovely will definitely be going back again soon.

We went as a family of 10. Some had the festive menu others had the normal dinner menu. Great choice at good prices. The food was delicious, good portions. The steak was the best I have had, cooked to perfection and tasty. Those who had the turkey said the meat was tasty but not very hot. The children’s meals were big and proper meat/fish. Would certainly recommend and will be going back.

Booked as a birthday treat for my wife and used the Norfolk restaurant week deal. From the outside you may be sceptical and the bar is a typical Norfolk village pub, so its not high on quality decor. The restaurant is pleasant and nicely decorated. The menu has a good selection of choices. Now for the real surprise. The food was simply brilliant, we both loved our mains and sweets, well cooked and full of flavour. The portion sizes were enough that 2 courses left us full but not stuffed. The wine and beer was also well served and decent quality. The staff were an absolute joy, Anna and Arwen. Very attentive, polite and smiling. This place is so much better than first glance gives it credit for. We will be back and you should give it a try. Nice people, great food, decent atmosphere and not pretentious.

What a disappointment. We came for Norfolk restaurant week and more than half the food was awful. The bread with the smoked haddock chowder was not cooked. The roti bread served with the mussels was also dreadful. There was no sauce served with the venison haunch steak. The ambience in the restaurant was miserable, the music was not appropriate for a restaurant either.

Food was michelin level, Sarah our server was informative and friendly, best possible service. Would recommend to anyone!

Visited for dinner with my wife, daughter and brother in law. Food was very tasty and well presented. Portion sizes were good. Starters we had the brie wedges and ribs. Mains were the tomahawk pork steak, "all the meat" burger and chicken burger. For desert we had the lemon cheesecake and choux bun. All went down well. The kids menu is simple and has all the usual kids Meals. The portion size was good and my daughter really enjoyed it. There was a nice atmosphere throughout the evening and the staff were really friendly. Unfortunately they do not have baby changing facilities, which is a shame. However the staff were helpful in finding a quiet private area to help with that and were keen to help resolve any issues quickly throughout. Service was really good and friendly, a bit disjointed at times with multiple servers asking the same questions within a few seconds of each other, but nothing that bad at all really. Definitely recommend and we will be going back!

Being a long term single man I have a lot of experience of restaurants. I write this review because of the excellence of the service and the exceptional quality of the food in Acle Steak. I have made a number of visits and on one occasion, before we had aced an order one of my guests suffered a medical emergency. The waiter helped us to resolve this matter without fuss so that we could enjoy our meal and the other customers were unaffected. In the windows of the restaurant is a notice which displays the message: "Acle Steak home of the best steak" , I suggested that one of the windows should carry the message:: "Ace Steak home of the best waiters".

Great new restaurant. Tried it because we use one of the groups other pubs regularly. Steak was perfect, team were friendly if a little new and unsure, and really good wine selection. We'll be back.
