Steak in the Stix at The Ratcatchers in Broadland

Very disappointing. We waited a long time for food. Mums meal arrived as we were half way through our. Roast was smothered in gravy, which overwhelmed all the other flavours. Would have been better to have a jug on the side. Not much beef, average Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets seemed shop bought, roast potatoes not crispy at all, rest of veg average. My son’s chips and burger very dry. On a positive note, the staff were very nice and apologetic. They did refund my mums meal. It was a pity as it was Mothers Day. This restaurant was highly recommended. It is priced quite high end but has a sort of Berni Inn or Beefeater feel to it. We won’t be returning.

We came to the venue on Saturday and had an amazing meal. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was top class. Everything was cooked to perfection. The meats were top quality. The lamb was out of this world! We will be back again.

I booked a Mother’s Day meal for 6 of us at The Ratchers, somewhere my mum has wanted to try for sometime. The pub is lovely inside, unfortunately the food did not match. Whilst the menu looked enticing what wasn’t explained was that on the 3 course meal you get smaller portions. On ordering 3 lots of fish & chips expecting a lovely big piece of cod…. What 2/3 received was actually a few chips & what looked like half (if that) a cod fillet. I had to ask where the rest was. To say it was an embarrassing dish for a main in an understatement. Bearing in mind it sells itself as a steak house style pub, I didn’t receive a choice on the cook of the steak sandwich & was told it is just served how it comes & I couldn’t request it be cooked rare…. Something of an oddity. When I asked about the fish & chips portion size I was told that the lunch time fish & chips is smaller….. as lovely as the staff were they offered no solutions until I asked my family member if they wanted another ‘fish’ unfortunately he was 2 bites down & finished in a 3rd (that’s how small the portion was) photo below demonstrates how many chips were given & 1 bite of the fish gone. The service was slow with a 40 minute wait for a starter when there were only 4 tables in. All in all unfortunately not somewhere I can recommend nor go back too sadly. Really disappointing & had to apologise to my mum & her husband for a poor Mother’s Day lunch

Beautiful steak and amazing service! Lidia took care of us from start to finish. The steaks were perfect and absolutely loved the chips and desserts were delicious.

Stopped off at the restaurant on impulse and glad we did. They were short staffed on the day but the service from Lydia was exceptional. She was knowledgeable on the menu and very friendly. We had the three course set menu and the food was really good quality and priced very well. Will certainly visit this place again.

8 of us came to celebrate our friends 70th Birthday. We sat in the conservatory which we had to ourselves. Bryony our waitress was most accommodating and our 3 course meal was really lovely. No one could not fault the service and food. Will definitely return.

Went for lunch today 12.45 was very quiet only me and my dad in there. The waitress/bartender was very friendly and welcoming. The lunch menu was small but amazing price 2 courses £20 or 3 courses £24. The food was delicious we chose pulled beef on toast and prawns for starter, main pork belly and fish and chips for desert we had brownie sundae it was all perfect 👌!!! Would highly recommended The Ratcatcher. Little hidden gem.

We absolutely love this restaurant as they do the best steak and has previously done the best starters. Unfortunately they're a restaurant that keeps changing their menu and not for the better. We have been 3 times now and the first time had the 2 most amazing starters. Breaded chicken in a sweet chilli sauce and chipolatas in a mustard sauce. On our 2nd visit we were hoping to have these again and unfortunately no chipolatas. During our visit this evening both these starters were not on the menu and the replacements left a lot to be desired so only one of us had a starter. Although disappointed as was looking forward to the chicken I thought I'd have a brownie for dessert instead, but again not on the menu and no chocolate alternative dessert on the menu. I understand places wanting to change menus and it may be those starters weren't as popular as others, but we left our meal a little disappointed this evening.

Very disappointing, had to wait ages for our order to be taken, then obviously had to wait awhile for our food with 2 young children getting very bored & hungry, food just average, didn’t even ask if everything was ok, would not return

TASTY! Great food, good menu selection. The service can be a little slow. Would recommend Started with braised beef on toast - not too big, lots of flavour, beef melted in mouth. Had the Beef shortrib for main - beef fell.off the bone and packed with flavour, mash was smooth and veg cooked to my liking (not to soft) Finished with a cheesecake - again tased excellent. Left extremely full (didn't need the cheesecake😃)

After reading mixed reviews we were looking forward to trying somewhere new to us for a nice steak meal. The bar area and restaurant around was tastefully decorated for Christmas and first impressions were very good. We were seated in a nice area and the table was very comfortable. We ordered our steaks and asked for them to be served on plates as opposed to skillets how they are usually served. I have a struggle with my hands so this best suited us. They came on skillets only to be told we would have to transfer them onto plates ..... everyone enjoyed the steak. When it came to ordering the desserts we were advised that two of the offered six choices were unavailable ... I then decided to have a cream floater coffee only to told they had run out of cream also. Bearing in mind this is the last Saturday before Christmas, they know well in advance how many bookings they have surely you would not expect a restaurant to run out of cream, cheese & biscuits and the ice cream dessert .......then a £4.50 charge for table water on the bill at the end was enough for us all to say we would try somewhere else next time. We felt this in all was a shame because the things that had let it down for us could easily have been avoided.

This is absolutely the perfect place to visit if you want to have a hassle free, great tasting meal with really good service. I first visited a couple months back with a friend that swears by this place and we had the best steak I have ever tasted in my life, granted it was £100 or something but the food was that impressive when I wanted to go somewhere for a Sunday roast I was happy to see if it was offered here. Not only did it seem good value compared to other competitors, but they truly went above and beyond to even allow us to reserve our dinner so we were not left disappointed when arriving and even when I offered to pay in advance, they refused. That really is risky for any business but it speaks volume. The food as expected did not disappoint, I also had the best roast of my life and enjoyed every bite. I cannot wait to revisit for a Sunday roast. Thank you for the hospitality (even when the power went out and you lit the candles😅).

Friendly & helpful service a bit slow but lovely food...

Food was very nice, but the mushy peas with two of the meals was too salty. The service was friendly but two drinks orders took a while to arrive, perhaps because it was so busy. We will definitely eat there again though

Went here during Norfolk Restaurant week and it was absolutely fantastic. The menu was varied which made deciding difficult but what we had was extremely tasty, presented beautifully and the staff were attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend and will return soon.

We went during the Norfolk Restaurant Week for a meal as it had been a few years since we had last been. What an amazing meal, the three courses were fantastic. The service was great. I would recommend this pub to anyone and we will most certainly be back soon.

Just returned from an evening at The Ratcatchers and firstly let me say that the food was exceptional. However, food alone doesn't make a good restaurant. On entering the venue there is almost a feeling of the staff looking down their noses at you and it wasn't just me that thought that. The service was poor to say the least, and I've spent over 40 years in hospitality. One poor girl appeared to be doing most of the work whilst the remaining staff kept the bar top warm. It took forever to place our order and hard work to get drinks out of them. On asking if we could have our drinks a little quicker I was told "they are now being prepared" 3 pints of Diet Coke, and 1 pint of full fat Coke, really? We waited an hour from arriving until the first plate hit the table and the place wasn't busy. Mysteriously a table next to us arrived later in the evening and had more staff and service in 10 minutes than the rest of the entire restaurant all night. Is my money not good enough for you? The chairs are appalling and probably the worst I have come across in decades, no base to them at all and it's like sitting on a tubular frame all night. Sorry to say that despite the phenomenal food, the rest lets the place down and my money is better spent elsewhere. Even the "goodnight & thank you" seemed like an after thought. I really objected to paying a 10% service charge and had it not have been my fiancée's daughter's birthday treat, I would have said something. Sorry we won't be coming back.

A lovely meal. Service was excellent as our waitress Charlotte was very professional , efficient and very very pleasant. A credit to the company. Love that it is dog friendly restaurant too.

Lovely modern steakhouse in the heart of Norfolk, myself and my wife had the rib eye which we ordered medium rare but came out a lot rarer, fine for us but just check when ordering. Incredible deserts, nice service and lovely surroundings.

Loved are visit here hope we weren't to noisy lovely staff would recommend it.

Had a wonderful Saturday night dinner here. I had the lamb rump with maple carrots and dauphinoise potatoes and it was absolutely outstanding. My husband had the ribeye and really enjoyed it too, the chips were golden and crispy.

All in all pretty dreadful. Tired, formulaic tepid food served in an environment completely devoid of atmosphere or any connection to the local area. Leathery and cool roast potatoes. Small chipolata sausages clearly out of a packet. Meat - beef - was OK but portion size was mean for the price point. Very little that was positive. Our server did their best but clearly the place was massively over-reaching in terms of number of covers vs number of staff. Suggest steer clear - there are many other options locally offering far better food from farms and other nearby outlets.

Lovely restaurant hidden away in the countryside with some delicious food. The steaks we had were fantastic, really well cooked, and the chips were yummy too. Those of us who had room tried a couple of puddings which we can highly recommend.

Saturday menu and food 10/10 amazing, Sunday made 9/10, and a Wednesday made 8/10... that's the order we visited. It's lovely, clean, and friendly. I would recommend it to all my besties. Plastic plants 🪴?

Overall rather disappointing to be honest and really quite expensive. The fact that you pay £35 for a steak and then you have to pay an extra £3.50 is not great. I ordered the seafood pasta and for some reason the chef decided that adding a balsamic glaze to the rocket on top was a good idea. The sweet balsamic glaze mixed in with the seafood pasta was really unappetising. I should’ve sent it back but didn’t want to be difficult. We also had multiple flies flying around us and we managed to swat 3 dead so that was also not appetising… We mentioned the issue with the pasta and received an apology but no gesture was made with the bill which I find unusual. Even offering to make one of the drinks free would have been nice. We decided to leave without choosing a dessert as they were basically all £9 and we didn’t want to risk potentially not enjoying it and paying such a high price for a dessert. On a plus note, the decor was nicely done and the service was good. Sadly though I don’t think we will back - £80+ for a few drinks, two mains and a side…

An unforgettable experience. We hadn’t booked on a Friday night yet the staff bent over backwards to make sure we were comfortable and looked after. Extremely warm and welcoming. The hospitality was flawless, (they even gave us the choice of a teaspoon or dessert spoon for dessert. Sounds silly I know but I’ve never been asked that in a restaurant before) Plus other little details that made our visit top notch. The setting was great, decor was on point and they didn’t rush us and gave just the right amount of attention. Food was second to none. The beef carpaccio was divine and the steak was perfect with every bite. Thank you Ratcatchers team.

Absolutely amazing and fantastic value to boot! We were driving though Norfolk on a long journey, we're looking for a quick bite to eat. We saw their burnt wood sign on the main road and decided to swing in for a quick meal and we were blown away by how great this place is, it's slightly off the beaten track but worth the detour. The entire restaurant is beautifully designed and very well kept with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were really friendly and up for a chat without being pushy at all, the food was great, fantastic flavours, perfectly cooked and well seasoned. We had the beef on toast and the squid to start which was all great with Asian inspired flavours then the chicken and the squash and mushroom wellington for mains all cooked to perfection and full of flavour! To make it even better the prices are extremely reasonable! We are so glad we went and will definitely visit again when in the area

Our friend Steve selected the Ratcatchers purely by chance as a place to stop on our mini tour through Norfolk in our mazda mx5 cars and what a brilliant choice of venues it turned out bo be. Unfortunately for the restaurant it was not busy, but better for us. We had a table just inside so had a nice breeze. We all ordered from the set menu @£24 per person for 3 courses. The food was excellent and well presented, served by a friendly and helpful waitress. For our desert, one of us asked if Eton mess was available as it was not on the menu, the waitress checked, and the chef made one for us,no extra cost. I would thoroughly recommend the Ratcatchers, we will go back, but not frequently as it is around 40 miles from our home

Second time coming here and cannot fault this place! From the moment you walk in you are looked after by the staff, they are all very helpful and brilliant service! This place is perfect for occasions and the quality of the food and portion sizes make it well worth the money you pay!

We went tonight and had a fantastic meal. The service was amazing and staff were so accommodating to my husband’s garlic intolerance, which as you can imagine affects many dishes. The steak was cooked perfectly. The side portions are a decent size and could easily be shared. The Bao buns delicious. We struggled to get in dessert. We’ve left feeling about 7 months pregnant with our food babies but was one of best meals and experience we’ve had out in years. Thank you

The food at this restaurant was good but quite expensive. It is dog friendly which was good for us. The only issue we had was that there was a long wait for our meal. No explanation was given. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy so can only assume they messed up our order, or it had been forgotten. We were offered some nibbles while we waited.

Had a delightful birthday meal at this pub. Between myself and my partner we had the parfait and chicken tenders to start and then the steak burger and beef roast for main. The food was some of the best pub food I have eaten, would highly recommend. Was extremely friendly and accommodating to our dog that we brought along, giving him lots of pets and had a water bowl available. Cocktails were nice. The only downside was that drinks service was slow even though they were not very busy. Overall, could not recommend this pub more! Will be back again if ever in the area.

Big thank you to Lydia and the Ratcatchers Chefs this week. My wife has severely restricted food choices for health reasons. Lydia was able to work with the Chefs to come with a truly wonderful meal that made her night out. We love the Ratcatchers - Great food, Friendly Atmosphere and prepared to go the extra mile + Doggie friendly.

Attended with some friends for my birthday meal, we came in the evening and the staff were nice enough to reserve some roasts for us, when the desserts came they had written ‘happy birthday’ in chocolate on my plate which was a nice touch. Will be returning soon

Eaten here a few times now with my family, food has never disappointed, have had the best roast dinner quite possibly in and around Norfolk so far! Good quality food! The staff are absolutely faultless, accommodating, kind and just overall lovely people! Such a friendly family atmosphere and even though our 1yr old had a slight tantrum the staff just let her play about and interacted with her, we couldn’t be more thankful! The owners should be extremely proud of such a respectful, professional and comfortable establishment they have! 100% will always come back here!

I booked a table online where I left a note in the comments box thinking it probably wouldn't be read but bonus if it was. When we arrived the comment had been read and already checked with chef if they could accommodate which they did. Nothing is too much trouble, we switched up my main meal which they happily did. Food was absolutely delicious and staff are friendly and professional. We visited about the same time last year as we're not local and both times have been a really lovely experience. There is nothing we would change except maybe move you closer to home so we could visit more 😀 To the team - thank you and keep up the amazing work

First visited a few weeks ago, not a good experience but thought we'd try again, not a good idea, won't be a third visit.

We came together as a family longing for the best roast in Norfolk and boy did it deliver. The carrots were glazed perfectly, beef so succulent, yorkshire puddings so fluffy! My favourite part was one I stuck one of the chicken tenders into the creamiest Camembert. Will definitely be coming back!

Try to meet up for a Christmas dinner with the lads. Great food and staff, good atmosphere. Could highly recommend

The 3 course lunch menu was lovely and the service was great. Very welcoming atmosphere.

Despite being the first to arrive for a fairly quiet lunch service, we were treated to a first class customer service from the moment we arrived. I was unsure which local tipple to try, and was a able to sample from a a number of brews until I found one I liked. We selected a table and ordered from the very reasonably priced set menu. There were only couple of minor quibbles with some tiny subjective details that would stop this being a 5 star review. i.e. my tender-stem broccoli needed perhaps a minute more for my liking. Other than that we both enjoyed every other aspect of our visit, so much so we both had puddings as well. Overall a very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend it to others.

Had a Sunday roast and all was very good, a lovely roast. It was busy but the service was good and the staff are friendly. This place is dog friendly in ceartain areas, not in the carpeted areas. The dog was made a fuss of by the lady behind the bar. Well worth visit.

Stopped off for a quick Sunday lunch drink with my family after a walk. The pub decor has changed dramatically since our last visit. We had a warm welcome and the pub was quite busy. Decided to have a quick snack, which was very tasty. I'm looking forward to going back for a proper meal soon. Went again to celebrate my sons birthday. Everyone was so kind and gave a special pud to the birthday boy. We all had super food and a great evening. I've been here a few times now. Always a warm welcome and scrumptious grub.

Wow wow wow, My fiancé surprised me with a birthday meal tonight here and I've very picky on my fillet steak and how it's cooked and omg this is our new favorite restaurant, service was amazing, staff were all friendly and most importantly the food was unreal, my partner had the beef bourguignon and said it was amazing, my steak was cooked perfectly and even though I was full I had to finish it! Will be back again and again! Keep up the great work to all the staff!!!

Delicious meal here for a party of 10, 4 adults 6x under 9’s. The food was so good, the staff lovely and perfect for a group with a couple of vegetarians and some gluten free needs as well. Between 12-1 on a Sunday at the Ratcatchers it’s triple bubble with roasts, the full menu and brunch on offer. Wow. I had the crispy pork belly and it was sensational. The crackling perfect, a beautiful beetroot purée with bone marrow gravy. I also had a cheeky Yorkshire pud on the side. Honestly the best Norfolk pub experience I’ve been to in a long time, I want to go back tomorrow!

Was really looking forward to going. Was a lovely place on arrival . Very over priced The starters were lovely and we were really happy . Then all went downhill the steak was £40 and was cold only got a tomoto with it and chips . They were happy to take it away to be recooked leaving the other food which was ok but then took time to cook the steak which meant the rest of the food was eaten so had to eat the steak when it came on there own .. (Eating seperately) Really put a downer on the day out . All costs extra for sauces or gravy so expensive and not much to show for it . Won’t be returning …

I have been coming to the ratcatchers for years now and I cannot fault the food or staff. I am so chuffed they have launched the brunch menu as the food is just incredible. The presentation the flavour, I havent tried everything yet, but I will keep coming back to do so. I recommend anyone a visit here. It has lovely decor, cosy atmosphere, especially when the wood burner is going. (Ideal as it's getting chilly) The staff work incredibly hard, especially Lydia. Every time I am here, she always has a smile on her face and will go above and beyond. Making sure her customers are looked after and are getting the best service is no1. They are also on norwich restaurant week, so if you haven't been, nows the time to go.

First time today,we picked the ratcatchers as it would have been our mums 75th birthday today.she passed away end of may,so we wanted a place for a special day. food was fantastic the staff lovely and the place beautifully decorated.definitely go again.10 out of 10.

We came here for a birthday meal while away on holiday. As a couple who visit steak houses up and down the country We were not disappointed food was lovely, steak cooked to perfection and desserts were amazing. Very friendly staff Would highly recommend

Friendly pub and restaurant featuring local products (ale, fish, pork, herbs, even cheese). Only gripe is that they were out of three different items that we weren't told about until after we had ordered (and opened) wine. Easily rectified, but staff should advise. Reservations recommended.

Went for Sunday brunch. Full English and the steak and eggs are great. Good coffee also and very good service.
