Thayer's Real Dairy Ice-Cream in Eastbourne

Visited for an ice cream after stroll along seafront. Great choice of flavours but was guided by owner to try Jersey cream. It was absolutely gorgeous. Owner was very pleasant and talkative. Will be visiting whenever down in Eastbourne. Make sure you do too.

This shop is right behind a flashier Italian Gelato shop. It is quieter, cheaper and serves better ice cream! highly recommended.

Walk past the Italian Gelato place and around the corner. You will find this gem. I am an ice cream-aholic and no short break without for me is time wasted. We went as a family of 4 and had double scoop each and the fella helped us choose. My son said the blood orange sorbet was the best ever. I always go for mocha and it did not disappoint. The owner put us onto a love chip shop and after we had chips me and the kids went for seconds of ice cream but had the whippy one made with Jersey Cream. Absolutely worth every penny The owner was such a lovely man too. Almost worth a day trip from Dartford to here.....

Stumbled across this place on the way to the stream railway. Saw it was busy so made a note to get my son an ice cream on the way back. He loves mint ice cream, which I tried and thought was very good. Had a very pleasant conversation with the owner. GAME CHANGER - a regular came in and ordered the owner's Jersey milk ice cream. It looked so good I ordered one for myself. I've never had ice cream so good in my life. Totally smooth and very very thick. A bargain at £2.50 Highly, highly recommend a visit, say hello to Magic from me 😉

Outstanding ice cream. What a delight to discover this hidden gem, a traditional ice cream parlour with a host of incredible flavours, particularly the secret recipe jersey cream whippy ice cream. Personal recommendations from the Charming knowledge owner who allowed us a glimpse of the adorable parrot Magic. So glad we saw Thayers.

First visit today. Ice cream was tasty and brilliant selection. Even better than my usual ice cream place close by. My daughter unfortunately fell over and dropped her chocolate fudge brownie ice-cream and when we went to get another he was more than happy to give her another for free. Lovely visit

I absolutely love this ice cream parlour. There are so many flavours and all the ones I have tried are amazing - my favourites are the praline or the pistachio. Really friendly and helpful staff too :)

This is the best ice cream in Eastbourne, lovely/charismatic owner good service and excellent value only £2 a scoop, I would recommend his home made soft vanilla ice cream.

We enjoyed meeting the owner and were made to feel welcome, the ice cream was good, we mixed the flavours and over indulged but then we were on holiday :)

So pleased to find Thayer’s just as I remembered it from when I used to visit with friends as a teenager in the 90’s. Served by the same lovely gentleman who has a smile for everyone, and the ice cream is as good as ever - try the blackcurrant flavour, it is delicious!

But what made this visit to Thayer’s special was the kindness and service from the gentleman serving us . He made a little girl’s birthday very special at the end of his working day . It’s worth venturing off the promenade to seek out this little shop . You won’t regret bypassing the flashier outlets nearby . I loved my ginger I’ve cream . See? It’s way beyond vanilla if you want it to be .

I wasn't planning to get an ice cream when I was in Eastbourne however when I turned to corner and saw a Thayer, I instantly wanted one. I had the cookie dough and clotted cream and my friend had the strawberry. It was delicious and packed full of flavour. My cookie dough had so many chunks of cookies it was amazing. Can't wait to come back and have the ice cream again 10/10

Not sure why trip advisor says its closed? I've just been today and its definitely open! Been here a few times recently. Such a huge yummy range of icecream. Weve tried Coconut, Biscoff, Peach & mango, Raspberry Pavlova, Jaffa Cake, Rum & Raisin, Pistachio. Will try the homemade ones next time. Never rushed to make a decision, it is hard with all on offer. Why queue for somewhere else. Go in and see the nice icecream man at Thayers! You won't be dissapointed ❤

this place is next to another ice cream parlour, near the front, we've used both before, both have a big choice but this one is a bit cheaper which does help if you have several children to feed.

I was on my way to a pub in the Seaside area and discovered this.To be honest, this ice cream shop has been here for more than 40 years but as a child I wasn't really foodie and all I did was hang around in town.Anyway, better late and never.Behind this ice cream joint is the famous Italian Fusciardi's another gelato parlour which can be tried later but my priority was Thayer's!!!It was a relaxed ice cream joint with so many ice creams to choose from and they have soft ice/ softie / softserve which is made in house with Jersey Milk so it is expected to be creamy.There are a few tables so you can dine in!Having all these ice cream choices was a treat.I picked Cinnamon and Rhubarb ginger.There were also the usual like Pistachio, salted caramel etc which are available in the city.The ice cream texture was to my liking and it was thick, gooey and mastic like Turkish Ice Cream.The rhubarb ginger (left) was a surprise as it was loaded with crystallized ginger, although the rhubarb wasn't really prominent, the overall flavour was good.The other scoop was cinnamon (right), also good but it got outshone by the rhubarb ginger so if I were to choose cinnamon again, it should be paired with something lighter.

Thayer`s es una heladería más pequeña en la segunda fila, literalmente a diez metros de donde la mayoría de los turistas compran su helado. Lo hace sin los lujos y también sin las macetas de helado bellamente dispuestas con virutas de chocoloate y fresas frescas en la parte superior.PERO, amigos, el helado es INCREÍBLE y absolutamente delicioso. Probamos con ambos, el lugar más caro en el frente, Fusciardi y este, Thayers, cuando llegamos a Eastbourne por primera vez el año pasado. Y para nosotros, Thayer`s vende el helado superior. Disfrutamos especialmente del jengibre oriental (con sus piezas picantes de jengibre:), el panal con trozos de caramelo, el Banoffee, que es plátano puro, muchos más.El helado tiene una textura fina, por cierto, muy cremosa una vez que se ha calentado un poco. Está hecho en Gran Bretaña, creo.Recomendamos encarecidamente que lo pruebes, ya que este lugar lo merece absolutamente y puede que no haya tanta gente de vacaciones, ya que está apartado de la carretera principal.

Después de leer las críticas anteriores de TripAdvisor, imaginé que Thayer sería una gran heladería, por lo que viajamos 35 millas para probar este increíble helado. En el interior, es una habitación pequeña y estrecha con un banco acolchado debajo de la ventana para sentarse, con unas cuatro mesas y algunas sillas.Sí, la selección de sabores es extensa: camino rocoso, chocolate blanco y brownie, rizado y merengue de frambuesa, fresas y crema, pistacho, pastel de jaffa (por nombrar algunos) y presenta algunos sabores que no se encuentran en ninguna otra parte, pero al ver el cartel de los batidos. Esperaba poder mezclar cualquiera de los sabores de los helados, así que pedí un batido de chocolate blanco y brownie. Me dijeron que esto era básicamente un batido de chocolate y luego se me ofreció solo la opción de fresa, frambuesa, chocolate o plátano (¡ni siquiera la vainilla, el más clásico de todos los sabores de batido!) Esto me tomó desprevenido, por lo que me asusté. - Scoop Sundae. Como mi antojo de helado no se había satisfecho, luego probamos el servicio suave hecho en casa, que no era el Mr. Whippy que esperaba, sino un bote hecho de antemano que se empuja a través de una máquina. Nuevamente, no es una porción masiva para 2 y sabía más a crema coagulada que a vainilla. Por lo que recuerdo, no había una selección de conos (solo un cono de una oblea simple y estándar). Teniendo en cuenta que el dinero y la comida estaban siendo manejados, no recuerdo que el servidor usara guantes:No me malinterpretes, me encanta el encanto retro de la costa británica (y siempre apoyaré restaurantes independientes a lo largo de las cadenas), pero esta no fue la experiencia costera por excelencia que esperaba. Esperaba más: más valor, más ambiente, más indulgencia.

Been coming here for years when out needing an ice cream fix. There is a huge range of flavours to suit even the most fussy eaters. This includes home made ‘soft serve’ which my son swears by.

We avoided queues by going to Thayer’s on a sunny Sunday evening - the seafront was packed but just off the path there was this lovely oasis with an excellent selection of flavours. We loved our ice creams and the service. I’d personally recommend the rhubarb and ginger!

I have been coming here with my family since I was a little girl and now I’m bring my family here for delicious ice cream! Lovely friendly owner who always likes to chat, which is lovely! Couldn’t recommend more!

We saw this ice cream place and decided to give it a try. There is a good selection of scoop ice creams, and this shop makes their own wippy ice creams which I tried. It was delicious. It's a lovely cosy shop and the man who was there when I bought the ice cream, was welcoming and friendly. The ice cream is also reasonably priced and well worth the money

Across from the seafront, Thayer's os overshadowed by the larger ice cream shop, however, Thayer's ice creams are made the old fashioned way and taste amazing. worth a visit. A few seats inside.

We have been coming here for years, both our late Mum's always loved a trip to Thayer's, the owner, David, is a friendly welcoming gent, who we've got to know well over the years, and he always smiles and chats to us, thankfully that never changes his niceness and interest in more than just selling you something is as refreshing as his Wares!. A thoroughly welcome part of the day, and he always has new flavours to try!

Ice-cream was delicious. The owner recommend the rocky road after I said I wanted something chocolaty - it was perfect. Very friendly service, it was a quiet day and the owners friend came in - we all sat having a chat and a cup of tea. Highly recommend a visit!

David was away but the friend, and her very nice son, were doing a fantastic job of running things in his absence. Ice cream was excellent.

Excellent ice cream, a character of a host with the real personal touch. Like another reviewer has said, don't fall for the tourist trap by going to the flashier and larger parlour just behind. Stick to this one and you'll hear all about the Jersey cows and their amazing milk! Great salted caramel and soft vanilla ice cream. We'll be back.

Returned after not visiting for some time having become disappointed. Pleased to say getting back to previous quality with reduced menu which is still extensive and varied. Service very good and friendly.

We were recommended to check out Thayers ice cream shop by our host at our hotel. I so pleased we did, not only did they have fantastic ice cream but we had entertainment in the shape of Daves pet(I wont say too much as it will spoil the surprise)

The owner is a proper character, one of Eastbourne's gems. Ask him to show you 'Magic' the parrot. Makes his own soft whip on site and its delicious. Can't recommend enough.

Local friends recommended that I visit here instead of the much more corporate Fusciardi's on the sea front, which had enormous queues with the atmosphere of a supermarket checkout.

I live a few roads away from here and I love coming here for the different flavours and the hospitality which is so marked to the one alongside on the seafront. Varieties such as Banoffee, Apple Strudel, Blackcurrant, Turkish Delight etc.

This is by far the best ice-cream parlour in Eastbourne! Wonderful owner, and so much choice, a delight, treated like an old friend instead of a customer! I will not go anywhere else 😊

Das kleine schöne Eisgeschäft hat unseren Tag "gerettet". Unter den vielen Geschmacksrichtungen war für uns SALTED CARAMEL der Hit. Der sehr freundliche Eigentümer nahm sich viel Zeit für uns und erklärte uns die teilweise ungewöhnnlichen Geschmacksrichtungen. So sieht guter Service aus.

This little ice cream parlour is at the rear of the Fusciardi ice cream shop,which is right on the seafront. It was only luck that we saw Thayers and ventured in as there was such a huge queue for the other shop.

Amazing little place, lovely owner. Great selection and very friendly service. It was 2100 and it was still open. We were offered free tea coffee with our dessert. We don't have that kind of service anywhere these days.

Came here twice on consecutive nights because the Fusciardi place nearby was closed by the time we finished dinner. The ice cream is excellent (my favourite is mint chocolate chip).

Well this is in my opinion the jewel in eastbournes crown,the ice cream here are amazing but what makes this ice cream parlour stand out amongst all the others has to be david known to our children as "smiley face man". We have been visiting here for more years than i can remember and we recommend to anyone who visits eastbourne. There is always new flavours to try and the prices are far more reasonable than other establishments . All in all we love the shop, the ice creams and the man . X

We've been going to Thayers since it was originally opened as Dayvilles many years ago. We don't go regularly, but if ice cream is what we fancy - this is our favourite. The owner is a charming guy who has been there as many years as we can recall. The selection of flavours is fabulous and they taste divine. On our last trip we even met Madge the parrot, which was an unexpected treat! Only downside is that they will close for the winter months..

We visited after dinner. The man that served us was so bubbly and full of character. We didn't know it was cash only...but luckily we managed to pay with a lot of change. He also said if we don't have money we can come back the next day and give him money! That was so lovely for him to say that. The flavours were awesome and had a lot of variety! I will definitely be visiting again. A very welcoming ice cream shop!.

Found this ice cream shop whilst visiting eastbourne for the day.

Thayers in Seaside is an Eastbourne institution, he's been there as long as we can remember. My wife and I were going here before we met, and have introduced our children to this wonderful ice-cream shop over the years. The man that runs it is incredibly patient with our children faced with a huge choice and always has a friendly smile and a warm welcome to everyone that enters his establishment. His prices are also much better than other shops in the vicinity. I always would rather support an independent.

Absolutely fantastic ice cream parlour which has been run by the same man for as long as I can remember! The ice cream is always creamy and delicious, and you're able to sample the ice cream to help you choose what flavour to go for. Coffee's my favourite, personally! Overall, it's always clean and the staff are friendly. Full marks. Kudos to Thayer's.

When we visited this in the summer was told they do not sell Thayer's ice cream now had their own. It is still called Thayer's Ice Cream????

I live locally and during the summer months will often pop in for ice cream whilst I'm passing, the flavour choices are great and the owner is always happy to discuss choices and make recommendations, his home made soft icecream is excellent. Definitely worth a visit if you're after something sweet

If you like ice-cream you will LOVE Thayers, it's ice-cream to die for. Our favorite is the Ginger ice-cream. The owner is a very nice man, chatty and helpful.

We live round the corner and when we want a nice ice cream there's no where else to go. The 2 and 3 scoop sundaes are amazing and taste creamy and of the flavours they are supposed to. Love I have this little gem near me and easy on the pocket not like round the corner. If you haven't come for an ice cream you school definitely try it.

My wife & I ordered two 2 scoop ice cream cones. I have the mince pie & cinamon flavours which were delicious. Shame there wasn't a choice of waffle cones as I think this is nicer than the ice cream shop just behind these premises.

Tucked away behind the well known one so visit this instead. You will not be disappointed . Loads of flavours recommend the ginger in particular.

This little place is not directly on the seafront, but behind Fusciardi Italian ice-cream, which always seems far busier. I recommend you walk past Fusciardi and go to Thayer's. This place has a brilliant array of flavours (much more creative than Fusciardi's). The Turkish Delight is amazing.....rose flavour with chocolate (mmmmmmmm). They also have: liquorice, strawberry cheesecake, banoffie, apple toffee, bubblegum, mince pie, spiced cinnamon, ginger...........flavours you can't find in most places. The owner is vey friendly and chirpy and likes to promote his home-made soft ice-cream! Cones, cups, sundaes, banana splits......drinks too
