Hygiene - Washrooms are badly maintained. Not clean. Food - Ordered Porotta, Beef roast, Appam and Mutton Curry. Worst food had till date amongst all the kerala restaurants in UK. Porotta was the refrigerated porotta just heated up and given. Mutton Curry was old and disgusting and we had to leave the curry as it is. Appam was fresh and good. Beef roast was average. We gave a review to the owner about the Mutton Curry. They were like it is fresh and prepared then. Without even heating the curry, it was presented to us. Why will I as a customer have such a food travelling till Eastham. But mistakes happen, and this will be the last visit to this restaurant.

It's Kerala restaurant. An average one with little highly priced. The food taste is average and should not expect top class Kerala dishes.

We visited this restaurant with Indian friends of ours who are very knowledgeable about food. They consider this to be the best south Indian place in London. It was a Friday evening and when we arrived there we lots of groups of friends socialising together, and with the bright decor and lighting it was a casual atmosphere. By the time we left, there were quite a few families dining. Our friends did the ordering and we tried lots of dishes on the menu with some guidance from the servers. We found the flavours exceptional, some dishes were very hot but not too hot that you couldn't taste the spicing. We enjoyed everything that we had. They were happy for us to bring our own wine and even kept a bottle in the fridge for us until we were ready. We found everyone friendly and the price for the quantity and quality of the food was unbelievable in London. The ambience is unusual but it did not put us off once we tried the food.

Their seafood biryani is average at best. Too much oil and too little flavour. Their milk tea was better than the biryani.

It was one of the best about 5yrs before. Now it's one of the worst and so disgusting restuarent in East London. Situated just few meters away from east ham station it supposed to be doing well. when you enter malayalam movie will be playing on the tv with really loud noise. Cashier and waiter is the same person.. After placing order you just sit their more than an hour without any type of attention from the Waiter. Even if you ask for a glass of water you still have to wait another good 17minutes. The food is just ok it's depends upon what you are buying.. Food served in a cold plate. Toilets are so stinking and floors are wet with urine. There is no toilet paper. We were so disappointed.

We made a special journey to visit a South Indian restaurant in East Ham and we were pleased we chose this. The inside is pretty basic. When we arrived there was a large group of elderly ladies enjoying a buffet. We we seated and given menus. We ordered gobi 65 to share and then ordered paratta, Kerala fish curry, mutton curry and a mutton biryani. All the food was delicious with distinct flavours. The tamarind in the fish curry gave it a delicious hint of sourness which complemented the king fish. We had two diet Pepsi’s to drink and were given a complementary taste of a dessert they do. The bill was a reasonable £26. We will definitely return.

Thanks to this restaurant, Keralan cuisine is my favourite cuisine on earth, and I have been to Kerala and honestly the food here is done better, i dont know how! Dishes that you MUST try (that are always available) 1) Kanava Peera 2) Chicken Nadaan 3) Kerala fish curry 4) Beef roast (duck roast is also good if they have it) 5) Fish Molee here is very well done 6) Mutton roast Dont waste the real estate in your stomache ordering things like dosas here

We go here quite often and I can die for the mutton roast they serve. Be prepared to wait for 30 minutes. Otherwise try pre-ordering (if they manage to attend your call, consider yourself lucky). The nadan chicken fry is something that people rave about. It is great in quantity too, but I don't find it 'nadan' enough because of the added colour. (I always avoid having it.) The fish curry is always good and so is the appam. I haven't tried their meals, as I always order appam with mutton/beef/fish curry (the appam-fish curry combo is wonderful!) The biriyani is also okay-ish. The owner/manager is very helpful and hospitable. He is happy to click pictures for you too! The last time we went, there were a couple of new recruits who had trouble with taking orders and serving on time. The mutton roast we ordered went to another table. I hope they are better now because we are going again this weekend. Nevertheless, I love the place as it offers (almost) authentic Kerala food at economic rates.

Located on the High Street just across from East Ham tube station. The nearest parking - roadside pay and park on one of the many adjacent roads. Ambiance is pretty average; but food was great - authentic Kerala cuisine. People not used to that may find it a touch spicy. They could do better in terms of service and cleanliness.

I went with a friend to introduce our Kerala cuisine for the first time , but regretted it later ,should've gone on my own .The toilets both gents and ladies were in a horrible state . In both the toilets there was only one toilet roll which was found soaking in a mug full of water in the wash basin . And toilet door locks broken and a door that would not move .The foul smell from the toilet comes into the eating area .Food wise they have a lot of choices which is good and reasonably low priced . The kappa(tapioca)and fish was old and had begun to take a stale smell. The puttu (steamed rice cake) was very mediocre .i asked for a ghee and sugar to eat with it but the ghee was stale .The good parts were the fish Mollie , fried pomfret and porotta and appam which felt fresh .The best dish was the fish mollie. The beef ularthiathu had more than it's share of onions but it was ok to eat .It took 1 1/2 hrs to get the starters which was a tea and banana fritters (Pazham pori) , I had to go and ask if the food was ready or not . They probably need more well trained staff .I would prefer going to this restaurant only if I'm with similar minded malayalee friends who may need a quick taste of Kerala on tight budget . All in all a below average restaurant which can be improved and also the staff seemed very polite probably because they're already aware of the poor state of the restaurant .

Fast food?? No way is this a fast food restaurant!! We waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food to arrive. They didn’t have 50% of the dishes we wanted to order, not sure why it’s on the menu! When the food finally arrived not everything arrived together and then to find some of the dishes we ordered was cancelled without our knowledge. The Food wasn’t fantastic for the amount of time we waited for it either. Unless you have plenty of time to wait for less than average food don’t bother going if you’re hungry. When we complained the manager was blaming it on the staff and wasn’t even apologetic. We definitely will not be going back!!

More of a cafe than a restaurant, it's so informal that when the beer ran out the waiter fetched a few bottles from the offie a few doors away. There are groups of people sitting around, chatting, eating, drinking, all very friendly. One of these chaps is the manager. Various of the men seem to wander into and out of the kitchen or simply stare up at the Bollywood videos on the screen. What does emerge from the kitchen is really spicy, tasty food, all with the strong earthy spices of Kerala. It's all very relaxed, especially the waiter who may look like a South Indian equivalent of Boycie from "Only Fools and Horses," but who does things entirely at his own pace.Try it.

Excellent food. Each curry is unique unlike other restaurants. I love the porotta here. Lovely n fresh. Best to eat in. I had beef curry. Prawn masala. Sambar. Rice. I had a good time. Around £20pp. Highly recommend. It’s a shame it’s a small restaurant. It’s not wheelchair accessible.

I had high expectations of Chawalla when I first arrived as everytime I have walked past it always looks busy. After going there I can honestly say I would not go back. The food was so disappointing and lacked any flavor and the service was below average. We ordered the Chole bhature, Mogo chips and Masala dosa and I would recommend none of them. Try this place if you must but I would suggest you dont waste your time and go somewhere else.
