Thapas in Amber Valley

First visit last night the food was delicious and we will go again 😋

Food was exceptional. Very clean layout.

This place has lost its sparkle, ordered 3 dishes they all tasted the same, no authentic spices being used anymore, dull is only way to Describe it and it’s not the first time. Change of chef maybe we don’t know but well be going somewhere else from now on.

The curries we ordered were Dhansak and Jalfrezi, quality was poor and neither resembled a authentic curry, there was no taste very bland even to look at, sad to say we will not be ordering again from here.

We ordered a takeaway and were extremely disappointed. I ordered the garlic squid rings and ended up with seven tiny/thin bits for £4.95. We both ordered their top meal, we shared the dish between us, we both ended up with three bits of meat, loads of sauce, but no seafood as advertised. We will not be using this rip-off establishment again. Nearly £40 for essentially sauce and a few squid rings. Like most takeaways, they will not read the reviews, just take your money and not care about customer satisfaction. That seems to be the way of the world nowadays.

Ordered dinner from here for the first time and I wish I could go back in time and stop myself from seeing this place recommended online. The delivery got here 30 minutes early, which was easily the high point of the experience.

Not a fan of Indian, so not been in, drive past normally not busy, low rating as if it was buster then I'm guessing it would be good ?

Chilli chicken is the best. In the mains section, Himalayas Special lamb was good too.

Historically excellent experience with Thapas however this evening received a takeaway of butter chicken and paneer madras. From ordering to delivery took over an hour (at 5pm) however this wouldn’t have been a problem had the butter chicken not been cooked with cream that was completely off and sour. Rest of the dishes were cold. Rang to inform the restaurant, order cancelled and refunded but not even an apology. Really disappointed as had previously been very good but completely put off using this restaurant again.

Great food and service - very different and very much better than your standard indian restaurant. Lots of great Nepalese dishes to try plus excellent vegetarian dishes for the wife. Highly recommended and we will be back, very soon!

Most unrated restaurant in derby. More awareness needs to be made. Went in on a Saturday evening and the food is 10/10. Fresh and high quality. Thanks for a great night, will be visiting again with family.

This was our 2nd order, made on the strength of the excellent food that we received the 1st time, and it included some of the same dishes that were particularly good last time. It was, however, nowhere near as nice, with the dishes much more lightly spiced (by which I'm referring to the range of spice flavours, not the amount of chilli). Worse, though was that most of the dishes were this time highly and unpleasantly sweetened. The worst offender was the Paneer Pasanda, from which we salvaged the paneer before binning the sauce as inedible. The Special Daal was not far behind it for unpleasant sweetness, and the previously delicious Vegetable Kadai was fairly bland and underspiced. It was only the starters and the brinjal bhaji that were anywhere near the quality of the food in our 1st order. I don't know if there was a different chef on duty or what, but please, please, please, Thapas, do not sweeten savoury dishes, and increase your fragrant spices significantly.

Amazing food, we have had both takeaway and sat in the restaurant and we haven't had a bad meal yet.

First visit for us. Food excellent just not much atmosphere but I suppose on a foggy damp Tuesday not surprising. Will be back.

Utterly delicious. Everything I eat was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Why isn't this restaurant absolutely jammed with customers? Wake up Alfreton wake up, you have an excellent restaurant here. I'm here working and I will be back next week. Ohh the flavours they pour into their food, ahhhhh wonderful

I frequently use the takeaway service from Thapas and find the food to be exceptional. Always freshly cooked with a tempting array of traditional and more modern dishes. The vegetable platter is a must for non meat eaters. Highly recommended.

Loved it. First time having curry with Nepalese/Himalyan influence and everything we had was delicious; nice to have some different options to choose from. We're only here visiting for a few days, otherwise could see it becoming a firm favourite.

We picked up a take away from Thapas for the first time tonight. Service was excellent and the speed of service was also good. The food was amazing, clearly good quality products cooked by talented chefs. It will be our go to from now on.

Brilliant food. One item received was incorrect and the restaurant and delivery driver couldn’t have been more apologetic or speedy at getting a replacement to us. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

The meals were tasty, best nan bread I've ever had, lovely and light. Friendly staff. Was pleased to find out that Louby who owned the cafe before, supplies the delicious cheesecake deserts.

Amazing fresh food with lovely staff, will come again.

This place is awful. Tried last night. The onion bargies did not even have sauce or salad. Me and my partner are both ill. The cramps started 15 minutes after eating the curry and we are still ill now. So frustrated. Never again! Paid to get Ill basically!

Visited here on the 19th November for a family meal. Nice, clean restaurant and prompt attention and service. We were early so it was nice and quiet, it got busier as the evening progressed. When it comes to food I am often difficult to please but I cannot fault the quality and taste of the dish I had (Himal Chicken) it was absolutely superb, the chicken was so tender it almost melted. There were 6 of us and everyone enjoyed their meal and had no complaints.

The food here is the best I ever tasted and I have been to 100s of such venues. My No1 go to place now

This place is amazing, the owner is polite, attentive and very accommodating, the food is excellent and portions are really filling, if you go home hungry here then you have an issue. This is now my go to place, you get what you pay for, A quality service, quality food and drink. Thapa’s is in Alfreton and if you have not tried it then you need to go.

Was told it would be an hour which is fine but add 40 minutes to that hour wait and your bound to be expecting the best food. Nope. Over £36 and didn't even get the mint sauce we asked for and the salad tray we were meant to be getting. Lamb chops aren't minted they're just chops coated in spices with mint thrown on top. Onion bhajis and chilli squid not crispy at all, soggy and lukewarm a very disappointing experience, will not use again

Lovely food reasonable priced and a very polite and helpful crew. One of the best Nepalese oriented cuisine that I have experienced in England.

This is an excellent restaurant with tasty quality Indian food with interesting flavours and spices. The staff are very attentive even when under pressure. Highly recommended if want authentic food .

Had a fabulous birthday meal for Terry. The food was excellent, the lightest naan breads ever, coconut rice to die for. The main dishes were well cooked, full of flavour and beautifully seasoned. The staff were courteous, polite and very helpful and attentive. We will be returning. Loved it.

We had our first visit to Thapas Alfreton last night for my Fiance birthday. When we got there we had a warm an friendly greating from the staff. The food was amazing, so tasty an fresh would definitely recommend. Service was quick efficient. We will definitely be eating in again an we are going to try the takeaway service too.

Visited Thapas three times now. Food has been faultless each time. Staff are lovely & welcoming. Will definitely return again.

The meal arrived promptly however the food was tasteless and watery. The nan was soggy too. I had the chicken tikka kadai and my partner had chicken tikka bhuna. They tasted and looked exactly the same. We always have sanam but thought we would try Thapas. Needless to say we will definitely not be ordering food from here. Possibly the worst Indian food I've ever had.

This exquisite restaurant has left the best impression! The staff were welcoming and charming and are genuinely concerned about your satisfaction. I had the Thapa’s Ultimate special with the Lasooni chicken and it was excellent. I can't wait to go back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great time.

Just seen/tasted a meal my daughter purchased from this "restaurant". I was not impressed. A shashlik should not be raw onions with barley cooked panier/chicken, dusted with a spicy coating, again just heated. No infusion of flavour, verging on raw, and not at all good - most of the meal went in the bin. £24 for two wasted!

Super flavourful food. The momo (lamb dumplings) starter was especially fantastic.

Me and my friend, always going for drive and randomly searching for a nice place try out. Then we spotted Thapas! We thought it was Indian Tapas… Turns out to be Nepalese. Butter Chicken with Buttered Chapatis, and Chilli Chips… 😋😘 We forgot to take pictures of the food again. Because we enjoyed it soo much and there’s nothing left to take pictures of a empty plates lol 😂 Shiva is the main front of house and he has the right attitude to run type of business. I wish him all the all best for business.

Went early Friday the 19th November, ordered vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes, The food is very tasty and presented beautifully, the staff are very humble and friendly and will advise you on dishes, We had a recommendation that was perfect, Will definitely be back, the place was very clean too, the 4 of us were all equally satisfied, I would say my husband is the fussiest and he is happy to go again!!

We saw this new restaurant had opened & thought it might be worth a try. And we were right! Last night’s meal was very good indeed and the service was very good. All the flavours that we are used to are there but with a ‘lighter’ taste and consistency which was a very pleasant experience. Prices are the norm. All in all, a very good meal. Poppadoms smashed to smithereens. Chicken kahdai cold and little more then heated gravy. The worst curry I've ever had. Didn't even remember the sauce with the starter. When I called to complain I was told the next time I order I would get an extra something. If I order again, highly unlikely. Too much money for such a bad take out!

Outstanding! We'd seen that Thapas had just opened and decided to give them a try for a takeaway. Rather than order fully from the takeaway menu they were kind enough to recommend a dine in seafood dish for my wife which she suggested was one of the best curry dishes she has had in a long time. I went for the butter chicken which was delicious and my son had the Nepal chicken which again he suggested was absolutely lovely. I especially liked the mixed starter and the dumplings will we ordered again. We shall certainly be returning. Thanks team Thapas and wishing you the best success with your restaurant.

Stumbled across this little gem after a day golfing. The staff are so friendly and took the time to ask me and Steve what sort of dishes we liked. I tried himalayas special chicken and I have to say what a taste sensation. The sauce was phenomenal 🙌 would highly recommend this dish 👌
