At Thai Square Trafalgar Square, nestled in the heart of the bustling capital, the promise of authentic Thai flavours in a prime location drew me in. Unfortunately, the reality didn't quite match up to expectations. Let's start with the food, which can only be described as average. Thai cuisine is renowned for its vibrant flavours and intricate balance of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy elements. However, the dishes presented to us were notably lacklustre. The Pad Thai lacked the essential tamarind punch, and the green curry missed that fragrant basil freshness, essential to lift the rich coconut base. Both dishes could have benefitted from a more generous use of herbs and spices that are the backbone of Thai cuisine. Moving on to the service, it was disappointing. From the moment we stepped in, the welcome was less than warm, setting a rather underwhelming tone for the evening. It took a considerable amount of time to catch the attention of the staff for ordering. When the food arrived, it was with minimal interaction, lacking the customary Thai hospitality, which is all about warmth and friendliness. A significant damper on the evening was the atmosphere, disrupted not by the restaurant's own ambience but by an external factor — a child at the next table watching YouTube videos at a high volume. Normally, one would expect restaurant management to step in and ensure that all guests enjoy their experience without such disturbances. However, when approached, the manager refused to intervene, which was both surprising and disappointing. This lack of consideration for the comfort of other diners further marred our experience. Overall, Thai Square Trafalgar Square falls short of what one might expect from such a well-positioned eatery. Despite the restaurant's potential to capitalise on its location with robust Thai flavours and congenial service, it struggles with mediocrity in its culinary offerings and a disregard for customer service. For those seeking the true taste of Thailand and a dining experience to match, there are certainly better venues in London to consider.

Great Thai place with authentic flavors! They have great service and you are able to custom order your spice level on orders! The food is fresh and they have a good assortment of cocktails. The restaurant is large and we got in without a reservation on a Friday night. Great location and pretty decorations. Service is great and food comes out at the right speed.

the food a was disgrace portions well !!! I had 4 veg spring roll size of a little finger mainly a over cooked excess wrapping no or little filling, the satay was so dry we chewed our way through it - then the prawn soup a mug size serving had no flavour, lots lemon grass to extract from our palates - with frozen out of date or well over cooked prawns. we were on a time constraint theatre should not have paid and would expect a refund now on this review which I doubt will happen cost £55 for three if it was £12 each was not worth a return aqs even the the value was lets say ....I would recommend Rosa's Thai not far on Dean Street and more authentic

I recently visited this charming fancy restaurant tucked away in the corner. The food was outstanding. Especially the waiter mr Hari was awesome . We loved the green curry , definitely gonna come back next month

Yesterday we enjoyed a delightful lunch experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere was vibrant and cozy, with friendly staff providing excellent service. The waiter who served us Mr. Hari was such a lovely guy. The diverse menu offered mouthwatering dishes, and my meal was both delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommend !

They are too dependent on coconut milk and lemon grass, which made a lamb curry and a chicken soup taste close to each other. Don't get me wrong, they were both good, just not different enough. Prawn crackers with dip are banging, though, not gonna lie.

Nice food at this restaurant. Service charge (at 12.5%) was included which I think makes service less attentive however we enjoyed our meal. Quite expensive for what it is though I suspect you’re paying for the location too…

Excellent. The setting of the restaurant was luxurious, with a relaxed, calm atmosphere. Food was delicious and the wait service was extremely efficient and attentive. All this for a reasonable price - it came to £201 including starters and mains for four people, five alcoholic drinks and a service charge. Will definitely be going back!

We enjoyed mixed starters, 2 mains and rice at this restaurant. The service was quick and the food was very tasty. The mixed starters were a little different from most Thai restaurants that we've been to (less formulaic) which was a welcome variation. It would have been nicer still if there had been a side order of vegetables available on the menu. The restaurant was busy and we were unfortunate to sit near to two noisy characters which affected our enjoyment of the meal (not the staff's fault though) . The place is well located, just off Trafalgar Square. For a central London restaurant, the price was reasonable.

Arrived at about 17:00 on Saturday for a dinner before theatre show, black suit and white shirt. Dozens of empty tables, everywhere, front by the window and back. Asked for a table for one person. The answer: we are overbooked. Won't do for a good review.

Ask for the pre-theatre menu. It's very good value and the food is delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. I've been coming here for years and it has never been disappointing

Service was exceptional, the atmosphere was calming and you can tell that it is actually a thai restaurant l. Although when we had the food, I confirmed that they over compensated on how the restaurant looks because the food wasn't really that good for its price. The corn fritters were sickly, the green thai curry didn't taste right. The satay was good though.

The Thai Square flagship restaurant is located in the heart of Trafalgar Square. An elegant spiral staircase, it's a central feature to this ornate and beautiful restaurant. The Thai Square are constantly updating the menu with creative and authentic new dishes .it's one of the best Thai restaurants in London and is loved by all.

Rude staff... 11.30pm the waitress came to us and said: "sorry, you have 5min to leave the restaurant "

The food was average for the prices and the waitress appointed to us was a bit rude. She did not smile and just left the plates on our table in a rush. The manager was much more warm and welcoming.

Our food arrived tepid at best. After I had asked if we could have it hot it arrived five minutes later congealed and clearly microwaved.

- lots of space inside, with an upstairs - dimly lit - good for big parties (saw groups of 12 sit comfortably) - pad thai was excellent with 5 prawns - duck wrap was excellent; tasted like peking duck - crisps were really delicious and the sauce was spicy Overall, prices are higher, but you ARE in the middle of Trafalgar Square. Rent is high, so it's ~30% higher than your traditional Thai restaurant. Still great quality, kind staff, and a good meal. No thai iced coffee - shame.

Overall, food is just ok. They need to know that any Thai food will be INCOMPLETE without bird eye chilli and fish sauce. What I am not that pleased, is the service. One of the waitresses looks “very unhappy and grouchy” to serve or even to take order.

Wir sind sehr verwöhnen, was thailändisches Essen anbetrifft🙏 Obwohl ich thailändisch mit dem Kellner gesprochen habe, hatte ich das Essen sehr europäisch serviert bekommen. Der Geschmack ist mild-süß. Satey-Spieße sind zu lange gegart; daher trocken und fade im Geschmack. Die Bratnudeln sind „ok“ für europäischen Gaumen aber nicht genügend für halb-europäisch-asiatisch wie meine Tochter. „Khao Sey“ (Reisnudeln in Curry-Hähnchen-Sauce) ist ein totaler Fehler meinerseits, dass ich es bestellt habe. Es schmeckt nur nach gerührte Sahne-Curry mit etwas Wasser - lauwarm. Hähnchenfleisch ist hart-holzig-kalt. Insgesamt reicht es für zwei Sternen, weil meine Tochter die gebackene 🍤 scampi’s mag und ihre Bratnudeln gegessen hat! Location ist top, dafür gibt es 5 Sternen! Service: es wäre schön, wenn sie sich mehr kommunizieren würden. Daher nur drei Sternen🙏

arrived for booking of last sitting. Slow to get served but starter arrived almost immediately after we ordered. Greasy and old. Main course was adequate. Thai wine was good. Would put it at the standard of a low quality high street Thai rather than in keeping with the high prices and previously high reputation of Thai Square.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience in this restaurant. I arrived as a single diner and felt that the staff had no interest in me whatsoever. Took an age to just be able to place an order, and then when the chicken satay arrived they were cold. I asked if they were meant to be served cold and was told the issue would be sorted. The next satays arrived just slightly warmer than the last. I explained this to the waiter and also said that based on this I would be cancelling the rest of my order. There was no explanation or apology, I was just presented with the bill. I don’t normally leave bad reviews, but I had such a terrible time at Thai Square I felt compelled to. I would avoid this place at all costs.

This restaurant had no atmosphere, no London buzz, when I dropped in one night without a reservation. I doubt it’s the kind of place which has a hot reputation. That is often the case with west end restaurants. You can’t help feeling this one has decided to make a living from passing tourist trade which means it doesn’t do enough to make you want to return. The portion sizes are small. My food was ok but I’ve had a lot better at other Thai restaurants around the country. The dishes are expensive which again you expect from a restaurant in this location. There is no zero alcohol beer option so I had a coke which instead of coming to the table in a bottle, was watery and flat. Overall pretty disappointing. I wouldn’t go back

Almost a home away from home where Thai cuisine is at. Pretty authentic with dialled down spiciness. Had the Padthai and it was laden with prawns. Good taste though a bit sweeter than expected. The starter plate has siew Mai which is not Thai, and the crispy duck was a nice mix of Chinese style-just that it was a bit dry/hard. The sate peanut sauce was a little bland and missing the spiciness. Overall good experience, great service, and nice ambience.

Having had a good experience a few years back for my daughters graduation dinner, I booked a table for 10 for my son's 21st Bday lunch, on 14oct23. Other than the service from Alise and Num the service was unsatisfactory. One particular European waitress was surly all the time and should not be working in hospitality. The food was too salty or too sweet. Haven’t had a worse Pad Thai ever. We were told we could cut the birthday cake we took, but we could not eat it despite telling them we will pay to consume and or order desert at £9.50/person. I made the booking on the telephone and told them it was a b’day lunch yet I was not told that we should not bring a cake as we had done the last time we had 12 people for dinner. I even cited the dinner we had when making the booking. I asked to speak to the Manager but he was on break and did not bother to see me when he came back. Poor excuse for Thai food. It is more of a fast-food outlet than fine dining restaurant and definitely not worth the £500 I spent. Completely ruined my son's 21st Birthday. Would not recommend the place to my enemy.!!

this restaurant is off the beaten path of the theaters. They do offer a 2 course fork, special good all the time, but when we arrive the gentleman at the front desk was not happy about giving to us, which gave me a bad feeling to begin with the food was good we had pad Thai shimp and vegetarian. Duck was also at the table which was not that good also had curry chicken, which was a bit too spicy. The waitress was very nice. and patient and helpful in people.

Great location, lovely food, nice restaurant. All staff members were friendly, accept for the extremely unfriendly lady that “welcomes” you. She couldn’t muster a smile even if her life depended on it, and clearly wished you hadn’t bothered showing up as you’re nothing but a nuisance to her. Rant over, it was just this one lady who they should not allow out of the kitchen, everything else was great.

The food tastes bland. You'll get better flavour out of a Sainsbury's frozen meal. This is not an exaggeration. Quite how it's possible to have so little flavour is astonishing. The portions are small, the prices are high. The only thing it has going for it is the location where ignorant tourists will continue giving them trade. Which is the only reason they can get away with this kind of cuisine. Do yourself a favour. Go out slightly from the centre to find a better restaurant. Or eat cardboard with soy sauce. At least it will be cheaper. And perhaps just as nutritious.

Served us shrimp pad Thai instead of vegetarian pad Thai even though we are vegetarian! The waitress then said “it was fine” and said we should just take the service charge off. Terrible food anyways - wouldn’t go again

My friends and I chose this place because of the central location (1-2 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square). And that is also the reason we believe this might be a tourist trap. The interior ambience is nice and the staff was friendly. But the food.. had a mixed reaction from all of us. The starters was a big let down (vegetable and tofu satay) - but the sauce that accompanied it was good. Regarding the mains, I liked what I ordered (Kao sol). My friend was very disappointed with her order (tofu and cashew nut). The other 2 friends found the food decent (pad thai and chicken stir fry). So as mentioned, a very mixed reaction! I really did like the Thai milk tea. Can’t claim to know how authentic it is- but it was good!

I chose the restaurant based on reviews and location. We were 5 and everyone agreed that the food was well under par. The service was OK but not friendly and not really attentive. Certainly won’t return.

Came here yesterday for the bottomless brunch. £45pp for 2 courses and bottomless drinks. The food is not the best Thai food I have ever had, the starters were a little underwhelming but the beef pananag was aroy mak mak. The service was very good, considering how busy it was, the staff were very tentative and we didn't ever have to wait for our next drinks. All in all, I would definitely recommend it 👌🏼 when they say bottomless drinks, it really is bottomless unlike a lot of other "bottomless" brunches. Khob khun

This is a great spot for some good Thai food. The panang curry and broccoli with shiitake mushrooms was delicious! Service is not that good. Try to avoid the lunch/dinner rush to get better service especially if you’re trying to go and see a show! Try and find a spot that’s not underneath the air conditioning - the food gets cold too quickly.

Attracted by the exterior decoration at the entrance and the distinctive interior decor of the restaurant. They offer set menus for both lunch and dinner. The Tom Yum soup is incredibly innovative, different from what I've had in Thailand or the UK, and it's quite spicy with a lot of chili oil. The appetizers and main courses are decent but not exceptional, with the chicken cashew curry in the main course having a very Chinese-style taste. Overall, the food is average, service is good, and the restaurant's interior design is a plus.
