Patara - Soho in City of London, Westminster

Food quality, portions, service, ambience and music playlist was all making a perfect place for any kind of meal or celebration. This is a Thai restaurant a level above the best of the rest.

We went a few months ago for my sisters birthday, which was lovely. However with the most recent experience we had, the manager YELLED at us over the phone, as we tried to make a reservation and then when we went in to try get a table the manager yelled at us to ‘get out, no table’. I understand with restaurants they can be too busy - but there’s a nice and professional way to approach situations as such.

Very disappointed meal here last night. Not sure if the establishment has changed hands? we often eat here before a show but things feel different here that all the previous visits? Massaman curry was poor, like other reviews have mentioned, the ‘skin on’ chicken was horrible and tasted odd. The other dishes were ok but not a patch on previous visits. Didn’t get the usual warm welcome either,

Lychee martinis are brilliant!! The riceberry rice is delicious! I’m shocked they had it on the menu! A nice change! I ordered too much food but it was brilliant! I will go back again as there’s other items I really want to try and I would really recommend ESPECIALLY if you like coconut!! See the menu it’ll make sense!! And look at the desert menu! Half of it is coconut deserts which I adore!

Beautiful restaurant and decor, delicious food, friendly staff and quick service. They also surprised my friend with dessert when they asked what the special occasion was as we were all dressed up and we said it was her birthday we were celebrating!! Enjoyed our meal out at Patara Soho, will be back again!

Really good Thai restaurant serving the classics. Everything was great. Only Critic is that the restaurant is a little too big so loses the family feel of a smaller intimate place. That’s said the food and service was of a good standard

We were given a table downstairs next to a huge group of teenagers celebrating a birthday. It was really loud and noisy, with the group continuously shouting the whole time. I asked a waiter to check if there was another table available upstairs but he didn’t even try to find it, only said they were fully booked without giving us a solution. It ruined the whole dinner. Something similar happened the last time I was there, it’s a very noisy place and very difficult to have a nice conversation, so I will not be coming back.

Very tasty Thai food. Very fresh tasting and a reasonable price.

For the price, there is nothing extra-ordinary about the food. It's standard Thai food. I wouldn't rate it fine dining either, so definitely did not feel like I got an experience warranting the prices. The food is good, and I have no complaints on that front. Service and ambience too are faultless. But this is not fine dining.

The atmosphere of the restaurant will make you feel like you are in Thailand. However, make sure to book a table in the groundfloor where the decoration is really special, otherwise you may be disappointed. The only downside is that i feel the menu changed a bit over the last few years, which makes it less appealing than before.

Nice place with ok food but didn't blow me away, I've had better Thai food for far less money and a less uptight feeling elsewhere. The flower dumplings were delish but the massaman curry had not a lot of chicken but ALOT of big onions basically still whole, I know it's supposed to have potatos and onions but the ratio and size of onion pieces was off for me. Probably wouldn't return as it's just not my kind of place.

Pros: service was excellent, staff were really friendly and nice, portions were generous and food was well presented. They have a separate gluten free menu. Cons: I had avo rolls and a pad Thai and found them really underwhelming and of a much lower standard than I expected for the price. I thought it was very overpriced for what it was (paid £40 each for a starter, main and non alcoholic drink). It was also pretty quiet in the restaurant with lots of spare tables despite it being peak time which changed the atmosphere.

I recently dined at Patara on Greek Street in Soho, and I must say, the experience exceeded all my expectations. A friend recommended this gem to me, and I’m so glad I took their advice. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. The staff made us feel welcome and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the evening. Now, let’s talk about the food—simply outstanding! Every dish we tried was bursting with authentic Thai flavors, presented beautifully, and cooked to perfection. The menu offers a wonderful variety, catering to both traditional tastes and those looking for a modern twist on classic dishes. If you're in Soho and looking for an exceptional dining experience, Patara is a must-visit. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Update: I provided a complaint to Patara about the experience and to their credit, alongside the response below, they have taken this seriously. I am hoping this was an off-night and an unfortunately rare experience. Earlier this year I spent a couple weeks in Thailand travelling. I had food at all sorts of places and it was rare to find food that wasn’t, at least, okay. In fact, I had many dishes that were simply sublime, sometimes in the most random of places. One of these was Khai Soi Gai at a backup restaurant because the one we’d planned on was closed for Songkran. I came here with my wife for my birthday and I’m not sure what happened. Perhaps the chef has had an off day or perhaps ‘fine Thai dining’ isn’t really proper Thai food but this was sorely disappointing. First of all, service was fine. No issues here. The ambience is okay if a little dull. The restaurant was about half busy on a Wednesday. Dishes & drinks: - Starters and mains came out at the same time despite asking not to. - Drinks were good. We had a Champagne Mojito and Lychee Martini. No complaints. - Chor Muang starter - very good. No complaints here. - Duck spring rolls - absolutely fine. Again no issues. - Khao Soi Gai - this is my favourite Thai dish and one of my favourite dishes ever but here it felt withdrawn for lack of a better word. Nowhere near what you’d get in Chiang Mai from a random restaurant. There is a place in Seven Dials called Yaay Yaay that does this far better, if a little too sweet. This was disappointing and it came lukewarm. The meat should have been on the bone, not cut up into flavourless strips. Poor showing. - Tom Kha Gai - in Thailand this is a wonderfully creamy coconut soup. This was absolutely flavourless. Honestly, hands down the worst Thai dish I’ve ever had because it tasted of very little. The chicken was just boiled, no seasoning at all. The consistency of the soup was all wrong. It was thin and faintly acidic. Thai food is bold, this was anemic. Overall, this was not acceptable as a restaurant experience. You pay good money and get flavourless mains come out. Why aren’t they testing the food? How can they be proud to be a Thai restaurant. It’s not a surprise I didn’t see a single Thai person here because it’s doesn’t have the comfort, warmth and satisfaction of actual Thai food. Instead it’s trying to elevate it to a ‘fine dining experience’ without doing the basics right. Go to Rosa’s, Singburi or anywhere else that does proper Thai food and don’t waste your money here.

Amazing service and food. The manager Jup and our waiter Tawan offered such an incredible experience. They were very welcoming and polite and as I am a vegetarian they knew of this from what i ordered and recognised that I was vegetarian and helped me go through the menu on what they can offer. The food was just incredible and tastes amazing, one of the best Thai food i have ever had and I go to a lot of Thai Restaurants. 5 Star and i definitely recommend you go here

Fantastic flavours. I had the chicken and mushroom coconut soup followed by the summer special confit duck noodle dish, and tried several others of my friend's. Everything was well prepared, felt fresh and the flavours were all well balanced. None of the food felt heavy, which probably speaks for the quality of the ingredients used. The waiter was lovely and helped advise me on some of the dishes. Nice atmosphere too. I'd happily return here to try more of the menu!

The team were all very warm and welcoming on arrival and during our time dining. I have food allergies which they accommodated very well and thoroughly. Ensuring my dish and other sharing dishes were free from my allergens (where possible). Food was absolutely delicious. We ordered way too much but the menu was irresistible. The restaurant was well maintained and clean. Our booking was early Monday evening so there wasn’t much of a bustling atmosphere. But that did offer the space and time to engage more with the team.

It’s nice place for enjoying dinner time with family. Good food and good service

The food was ok, the atmosphere was nice, the staff was lovely until I went to the toilet and saw one of the cooks (in her uniform) came out of the loo and didn’t wash her hands. For this reason only, I will definitely not return to the place or recommend it to anyone.

I had the the Green curry with beef and it was delicious. The place has air conditioner and the service is good, our waiter was Alvin and he was very attentive. It was my birthday though, specified in the booking but I didn't get any special attention.

The food was delicious, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but I felt upset because the staff charged a tip without my consent. However, hoping that the tip goes to the kitchen staff, I just paid and left. I would have given a tip anyway, but it left a bad impression after enjoying the meal. I was there for only about 30 minutes. Just alone I hope next time they wait for the customer to give the tip voluntarily.

Akshay I was our waiter. He was very pleasant indeed. The food was amazing, tasty and colorful. Also reasonably priced. We had the coconut and sticky rice dessert which was delicious, enough for two to share.

Not the best Thai food I tried, but it was not horribile. The lime lemonade was excellent. The place seemed a bit stuffy albeit with kind and eager staff.

Located near Soho. Good place to have engagement. It’s quite spacious also good was nice (I personally think most of the asian food was really nice in London). We ordered classic Som tum, green curry, kangkong and Tom yam soup. Green curry and soup were especially nice 🤤

Best Thai I've ever had. And I've been to Thailand. The appetizers were the highlight - every bite, with its own dedicated sauce, delicious. I had the Sea Bass, not my usual fare, but lovely light batter surrounded a meaty fish. Wife had the Patara cocktail was was delicious, if a little pricey. Other than that, well worth a visit.

Great restaurant. The staff were very good and professional. The menu is varied with a lot (too many?) of dishes with lobster and prawns. The prices are high for what you get and the portions average. It wasn’t amazing food but it was fine. The whole area was very busy on a Thursday night and neighbouring places were rammed. Here there were plenty of spaces. I think this reflects the prices and the standard of Thai cooking. A modest meal for 4 plus drinks came in at £269 and for that money in London you could eat much better.

Eigentlich weiss ich nur, dass mein Gericht ein Salat aus verschiedenen Sachen war. Ich kenne mich in der asiatischen Küche nicht aus und hatte auch nicht viel Zeit. Aber es hat dermassen fein geschmeckt, dass ich ganz bestimmt wieder hingehe. Alles frische Zutaten, eine freundliche Bedienung und ein richtig schönes Lokal. Bei meinem nächsten Besuch werde ich mir mehr Zeit nehmen und verschiedene Gerichte probieren.

As the host of a large group booking, I found Jup and her friendly team to be extremely helpful and supportive. We were informed when booking that the restaurant does not accept individual payments for larger groups. We had two options: one consolidated bill or two separate bills (one for food, one for drinks). For ease, we opted for the first option and once our group confirmed their orders they reimbursed us after the meal. On the day we were able to arrive early to set up decorations and prep the party bags. We were glad that we could bring our own birthday cakes, as some places do not always allow this. For food orders, we did a mixture of sending them in advance with allergies and dietary restrictions for the kitchen’s awareness as well as people ordering on-the-day. There is always a higher chance of waiting longer for food to arrive especially as a large group, however we were all very pleased that our food came out hot and in good time. Throughout the meal, friends and family commented numerous times on how delicious the food was. Our designated waiter Akshay was friendly and very attentive, with food and drink orders dealt with promptly throughout our time there and with a smile - thank you very much, Akshay! Overall, we enjoyed celebrating a big milestone birthday with a very happy birthday boy. We would highly recommend the downstairs area of the Soho branch for these types of large group gatherings. Big thank you to Jup and her superstar team!

Honestly, absolutely phenomenal Thai food. You absolutely get what you pay for. The starters were incredibly fresh, and I highly recommend the massaman. The Chorn Muang is also to die for. The price tags will scare you away a little, but it embrace it and make an evening of it. A Fanta establishment for any occasion.

Early pre-show dinner at 5pm so was empty, but was busy when we left at 7pm. Nice ambiance. For starters had Papaya salad, spring rolls and these pretty chicken mince and peanut dumplings (very little chicken but was tasty anyway) All were very good. For mains, we had massaman chicken and pad thai (a veggie one and one with chicken) Again thoroughly enjoyed. Finished by sharing the chocolate fondant and ice cream. Was most excellent! Would highly recommend.

Service was great and the waiter was good with dealing with allergies, and the food was mostly good (some of the vegetarian food lacked a little flavour). The overall environment was awesome, will definitely be returning!

Ive had better experiences at Patara being one of my favourite restaurants. Were vegetarian. Corn fritters were quite soggy and our favourite dish: the papaya salad was prepared differently. Wasnt the usual spicy or tangy. Looked like inspite of putting red chillies, they put red powder. Even look wise: it appeared quite ‘old and dated’ :not fresh
