Working in Soho I know there are a few places where you can get food for around £5. But this is the only one that is clean, you get served on the table or need to go for another dish because lunch felt more like a snack than lunch. I had the lasagna and it was nice, with plenty of salad and excellent olive oil

Good range of Thai dishes that do really exist in Thailand. Not the most amazing, fragrant Thai I've had but given that I'm comparing to more expensive meals actually eaten in Thailand, I can't complain. One of the most reasonably priced and fair portion sizes I've seen in London for proper restaurant food. The menu is handily marked with loads of allergen info. Nice- I'd go back.

We went for the 'Early Bird' 2 course menu at only £12,95 per person. The food was excellent and plentiful with 4 or 5 choices of starter and main including rice and vegetables. The waitresses were very friendly and courteous. And for by birthday they brought me a free dessert (which was delicious) with a candle in it and sang Happy Birthday. We were there from about 6-9pm with no pressure to leave. I would highly recommend the Thai Square,

When we bought our theatre tickets we chose this restaurant from a short list on offer for a pre-theatre meal. If we had just stumbled across it ourselves I'm not sure we would have gone in as it's nothing special from the outside. However we were welcomed as we went in and really appreciated the friendly, efficient service throughout the hour we were there. We had the 2 course meal which was good value. The food was excellent. Great location on charing cross road. Beautiful interior. Attentive staff always refilling our water glasses without waiting to be asked. Had chicken with cashews that came in an edible pastry shell--the same one used for spring rolls. Absolutely delightful! Had plenty of tender chicken and cashews in a perfect sauce that was neither salty or sweet. The mussumum curry was also tasty. For dessert, the emerald sticky rice with mango was not only a beautifully presented, but also tasty. The raspberry sorbet was another hit. Very good prices for a wonderful meal. Excellent service.

Also was asked at the end to pay cash only as their machine had broke down. Partner had to go and find a cash machine. The food is actually very nice, BUT AVOID at all costs! I went with friends for my birthday and about 10mins in the manager came and asked if everyone was coming because they really needed the table because it was very busy so we needed to be quick about it. And the staff while nice, they proceeded to come to our table at 1-2min intervals practically pushing us to order. Generally felt like they were trying to turn the table over whilst we were still ordering food. Not a good place to relax. Then when we got the the bill and they had added about 5 items to the bill that we had not ordered which came to about £60. We ended up having to get the menu and go through the bill one by one. Just terrible service and the manager tried to laugh it off only to give us a discount when he realised how annoyed we were. I will not go back there again.

Like previous reviewers, we received a gift of pre theatre dinner which we were really looking forward too....sadly the whole experience was awful, there is a specific menu of 4/5 starters likewise mains. I started with Tempura vegetables and chilli sauce whilst there was plenty of veg, the tempura was a heavy batter and cooked almost to a crisp, my husband had prawn and chicken parcels three on the plate I had to give him some of my veg to keep him going. The mains we ordered sounded really tasty expecting the fragrance of lemongrass and chillies etc.. sadly neither of the meals had any flavour at all and really small portions. My squid starter was tasty and well portioned, but the rest of the food was mediocre. £6 for 4 tiny prawn spring rolls? Which don't appear to have been anywhere near a prawn? Are you kidding? The service was decent, but by far the most depressing thing about this place is the decor. In Thai restaurants you often get beautiful, ornate dining rooms. Here it's literally breeze blocks and an awful, grey, pebble-dashed wall. That said, I'd happily return if all the other restaurants in London spontaneously closed down, I was malnourished and somebody was holding a gun to my head.

I was with family visiting from overseas. We came here as the restaurant we'd hoped to visit was full and other nearby restaurants were also full. I should've known to look elsewhere when we arrived and the place was fairly empty but hoped it'd be okay as my last visit to Thai Square's Trafalgar Sq branch about 5 years ago was good. The service was poor and the staff seem disillusioned. We had to stand up in order to get the waiter's attention on several occasions. The food was bland and generic slush - difficult to tell one dish from another. This was the most disappointing Thai meal I've had (and I've had many), my family were similarly disappointed in the food. The beer and wine was overpriced. The restaurant looked in need of desperate refurbishment. The men's toilets were a disaster area with brown packing tape being used to seal an electrical socket which was hanging off the wall, a cracked mirror that looked as though it was about to fall off the wall, holes in the ceiling and shed hinges bolted onto the toilet cubicle doors to hold them together. If they fully refurbished the place, replaced the cook and waiting staff then it may be a lot better. At the moment it's worth avoiding and trying one of the far better restaurants in the area.

Soho Thai is Thai Square - a little misleading. 'Thai Square' is the only signage, when you ask if it is Soho Thai you're told it is both. Don't quite follow this logic? I wasn't expecting a 'chain' so was a little disappointed. Ambiance is pretty bad when not full - voices bounce terribly off the brick walls so everyone feels the need to speak low, was better when full. There is also a discounted special valid till 7.30pm which wasn't brought to our attention, it was on the table but looked like a menu so we almost missed it. Food: average, not the most memorable, but value is fine; Wine: high in price if drinking by glass; Ambience: fine only when full. Would not rush back, but if I did, think best to stick to their curries.

Chosen for an early pre-theatre supper. A very full and varied menu to suit all dietary dispositions. The first disappointment was the tepid large house white wines. The starters, however, were fresh, hot and delicious - tempura of mixed vegetables and prawn tempura. The Pad Thai main courses with prawns were the second disappointment - dry bowls of rice noodles sprinkled with crushed peanuts, a poor three prawns in my dish and hardly any other ingredients. Partner did not fair better with four. Considering this is a main course and there was little to it and not as authentic as expected. The premises soon became hot and stuffy and nothing was done to address this, like opening a window or door.

Came here for lunch with a friend and it was only ok. There was only one other table with diners so the atmosphere was not good. The food was only ok also - pretty bland.

Folllowing a fun-packed night at the Soho Theatre, we ventured across the road for a late night quick dinner. Fabulous food with mixed starters, a great panang curry and a lovely fresh Pad Thai. Great value, swift service and charming staff. All very good.

Met up with a family member for dinner and stopped here. Tables are v close together in what is a small restaurant but the food was good, tasty and reasonably priced. Service was a bit slow, especially when it came to paying, but a perfectly serviceable restaurant for a quick and reasonably priced meal.

I was impressed with the food (taste and portion size) and thought it was reasonably priced. Service was prompt and no nonsense (but could be a bit friendlier/more involved). Overall I looked it and would go back.

This isn't Soho Thai anymore, I really think the name needs to change in toptable! I wouldn't have gone if I had known this. The ambiance and bustle that Soho Thai had is gone, its quiet and not very busy (for a Saturday night). Food is ok, not outstanding, dessert menu doesnt exist (when we tried to order the dessert special - advertising on a card on the table, we were told that they don't have it anymore - really??).

Feeling very misled.

The restaurant is easy to find, though it wasn't obvious from the booking that this was one of the Thai Square restaurants. There were 8 of us and we had a table with plenty of space. The service was good though we were mostly left to ourselves once we'd ordered. The food was good quality, fresh and tasty. Everyone enjoyed what they had, and the portions were generous.

The food was ok overall but there were a few inconsistencies. The prawn tempura tasted good but was more like deep fried prawns. The brocolli in oyster sauce was delicious. Pad thai noodles were overcooked and the vegetarian pad thai did not have any vegetables - just tofu. Service was friendly but a little slow. Also, my toptable cheque was not accepted by the restaurant which was embarrasing.

We were moved tables twice. They physically slid our table whilst we were eating. The set meal was overpriced for the size of the portions and it wasn't very flavoursome. The dessert was lychees in syrup and ice cubes which was obviously straight out of a can. Service was very bad and we had to stand and wave our arms around to get their attention. Very disappointing.

This is a cute little restaurant in a handy Soho location but it gets quite busy and crowded at times; great for small groups but maybe a bit noisy for couples. The menu has lots of what you want from Thai food and caters to all spice levels. Pad Thai is a favourite of mine; it was pretty good.

Good attentive service received at Soho Thai. We both had the chicken curry which was delicious, and in the end we got two main meals, and a drink each for £15 each so decent value for money.

This place is always busy and food is always good. Quite noisy so not sure it is a romantic venue. Service is good and friendly. I've been several times and have not been disappointed.

My main course (stir fry prawns) was delicious, but my partners prawn green curry was lacking a little in flavour. Likewise, my chicken satay skewer entree was slightly cold, but the prawn spring rolls were very nice. Steamed rice was luke warm at best as well.
Overall, a bit hit and miss - some very nice, some disappointing.

Lo encontramos de casualidad, paseando por el Soho y la verdad es que cenamos muy bien por un precio razonable. Si os gusta la comida Thai, vale la pena probarlo.

Went last night. Service very quick Tom yam goon insipid. Thai green curry bland no heat. This is the kind of place you find in airports. Amazed that it had so many stickers in the window asserting its quality. For the money only fair value.

I'm not sure why there's a double listing for this place.Ok, I loved Jane Tira--I mean, loved this place so much that we used it for our informal wedding dinner last year! As locals, we'd been going for years. It was always known for delicious, authentic food; friendly service (though a little slow at peak times); and very reasonable prices (for Soho). The moo ping here? It was to die for. When we visited two weeks ago, we saw some new faces but the decor looked the same--until we saw the menu. Weirdly enough, the branding appears to have been kept intact, and the website is now a bizarre mix of factoids and literal transcription of the menu items. I asked the waitress if Jane Tira was under new management, and she seemed confused; when I asked if this was new ownership, she said yes, but the food (and I quote) "is more better." Reassuring? Not really, as the food had been excellent before.Still, we ordered our 'don't feel like picking' from what we knew had been solid choices in the past, so we'd have an easy comparison. We went for the moo ping and corn cakes to start, then I got tofu pad see euw and my spouse got chicken pad thai. The starters took quite a while, but came nicely presented. Unfortunately, that was as good as it'd get.First sign nothing good was to come: everything was served with lemon wedges. I'm not sure why they couldn't find limes, but big sour Persian lemons are absolutely not the right accompaniment to Thai food (and yes, they were definitely lemons).Corn cakes: claggy, horribly doughy, not enough corn, too thick, not a single hint of kaffir lime leaves--which give the corn cakes their nicely aromatic flavour. Served with tragic bottled sweet sauce rather than the home-made nam chim kai we used to get.Moo ping: cold (!), limp, no grill marks, tough; the dipping sauce tasted like a weird combo of bottled sauce and discordant spices, it should have been nam jim jaew, which had previously been lusciously smoky.Pad thai: okay. uninspiring, with almost too much veg and not enough chicken, which itself was very dry. there didn't appear to be a drop of tamarind in the sauce at all, and certainly no shrimp paste, which made the whole dish taste flat.Pad see euw: I actually had to send this back, which I almost never do, because it was so charred as to be inedible--I'm not talking about 'a few noodles caught at the edges', I'm talking 'all the soy sauce was put into a hot wok and went past caramelisation into actual carbonisation, then more liquids were sloshed on top to loosen it, and all of that became the sauce' levels of nasty. A rookie mistake, and so bitter that it was impossible to swallow. I mentioned this to the server, with my apologies, and he looked a little confused; 'oh, you don't like it?' Look, if I didn't like it, I wouldn't be enough of a jerk to send it back. I said that I suspected the soy sauce had burned and hadn't been added at the right time, or perhaps the chef had been distracted, but he didn't seem overly concerned about the feedback. I asked him to perhaps just bring me tofu pad thai instead. It was as flavourless as the chicken, and the tofu wasn't even crispy. About the only consolation was the amount of toasted peanut, because I couldn't even douse it in lime juice--since I only had a giant wedge of unripe lemon. So run, don't walk, away from this place. Some developer has taken this well-loved Soho staple and turned it into some of the worst attempts at inauthentic Thai we've ever had the misery of eating. At the moment, your best bet is Rosa's a couple streets over, though the moo ping isn't a strong point (the curries, however, are excellent) or, if you want something a touch lighter, Viet Pho at 34 Greek Street, which does a pretty decent pad thai and really, really good Vietnamese food.

Nothing is exceptional in this place but it ain't bad either. Simple, well priced Thai food. Service is ok. Drinks are overpriced.

Always a fantastic meal at Spicy Basil on the A5 into London town ! Had the Pad Thai this time and it was flavoursome and fresh. Also had a coconut water drink which added a spash of the tropics to the meal

Had an underwhelming experience at Patara Soho. Started and mains were tasty, albeit a bit more expensive that most Thai restaurants, until we got to dessert. We got the orange chocolate tart, and it was like they just poured ready-made chocolate sauce into a ready-made tart case. Service was also so-so (we were downstairs). They didn’t leave tap water on the table, and it was hard to get the waiter’s attention to get more ware
