Thai Silk Southwark in Southwark

There is a dining room, a bar and a lovely outside patio. Too cold for that for us tonight, but the dining room is really lovely. Nicely decorated and comfortable. The food and service were outstanding. Each dish was well prepared and had its own flavors and taste. No one size fits all sauces, etc. This is very high quality Thai food in a very nice location.

A bunch of us turned up after work to say farewell to a colleague retiring from our team. We enjoyed several drinks in the bar before retiring to a private dining room upstairs where we had the fixed price menu. The food was freshly prepared and well presented. The taste was vibrant while in some cases extremely hot. The hospitality and service throughout was attentive without being overbearing. Complimentary use of the karaoke machine was hilarious as some of the backing tracks were clearly not as the original band intended. That said we had great fun and would recommend this as a venue for work events.

Had some good meals here over the years. Why has it suddenly closed?

We booked this based on the many 4* reviews but I have to say we were very disappointed with the quality of the meat in particular in the dishes. Flavours were fine but the chicken I. Particular (in all dishes) was definitely not right - a weird spongy texture! To top it off the restaurant tried to automatically add a 12.5% gratuity to the bill! Won’t be going back!

This is an amazing Thai they do a lunch buffet and it's very tasty and only 10 pound to eat in and 6 to take away highly remmomend

Lovely Thai food in a little oasis behind Southwark station. Would have given five stars but the toilets although clean are in need of a makeover.

Having spent a long time in Thailand I can say that the food here was delicious and very authentic. We visited in a Saturday evening and it was relatively busy. The service was very friendly and attentive too. They have a large bar and I think a private room upstairs which I'm now considering for a private birthday party in the summer. Overall, a lovel place for dinner.

Went there for a birthday meal and had a few drinks. The food was great and the atmosphere very warm and welcoming.

Went to Thai Silk in Southwark last night with my adult children - BIG mistake. We each had something different to eat and none of us enjoyed their meal Chicken dishes had a weird texture and we’re clearly highly processed, as was the sharing platter we had as a starter. Basically I blew £90 on rubbish.

This used to be a decent Thai, no longer. They're using frozen prawns and curry paste from a jar. Still managed to over salt my curry. Staff really good but can't see this surviving.

Service was good but everything else was really miserable. The food was almost inedible. Firstly, the drinks were disgustingly sweet to the point where I couldn’t even drink it. I had a “Thai mango ice tea”. Friend had a mocktail which was also sickly sweet. The starters were all fried in batter. Tom yum soup was a disgrace. Clearly just packet powder mixed with water with some dry flakes or something that had the texture of straw. Main curries were all sweet and the ingredients didn’t taste fresh. The chicken was very chewy like artificial chicken. The vegetables tasted like they were frozen but not defrosted properly. Overall, it was just an extremely disappointing dining experience and it’s sad that they claim to be serving Thai food as their food is really not a genuine authentic representation of Thai food in my opinion. The lighting was also very weird and made everything look red.

We went to get the soft shell crab. We were there on the early side and were handed special menus for that time. We were ready to order one of the fix price dinners along with the crab , but noticed both of us would have to order one of the fixed price dinners, and soft shell crab was not an option. So we were ready to just go a la carte. We were also given a special drink menu with two cocktails from the list for 10 GBP. Sounded good, so we tried to order two drinks from the list. But we were then told both drinks had to be the same drinks (could not order two different drinks from the list). We asked to be allowed to order to different drinks and were told "no". So we walked out. Save yourselves time and just go elsewhere.

Visited twice in the 4 days we were at the Ibis Hotel, Blackfriars. Very good choice of menu in either individual menus or the Prefix Selections. Very accommodating and good service. Would go again on next visit.

Visited the Bar not the restaurant . Great music. DJ played great Soul, Hip Hop and reggae. Drinjs were keenly priced. Not too crowded. Toilets were clean. Brilliant venue. Would definitely revisit.

Lovely food. Great atmosphere and service. Set under the railway arches and approached via a beautiful green tree and shrubbery lined walkway. Green curry Light and flavorsome. Fruit for desert beautifully presented and fresh. Recommended.

Service was good, friendly staff and food served quickly. Dishes were tasty and portion sizes are big so you shouldn't go hungry. Has two areas, the restaurant and bar. Bar looked like it would be good for post work/weekend drinks. Recommended for food or drinks.

What a lovely atmosphere of wait staff, and reassuring aromatic smells. Starter was Tom Kha Kai - creamy coconut soup (exceptional). Phad Thai noodles. Main Sweet and sour Fish. All delicious and fresh.

Myself and my two vegan friends went here and one of us got served egg in the dish which completely ruined our trust in the food. The staff were rude and unhelpful and did not take our dietary requirements seriously

I really enjoyed this place, we were in a private room upstairs where we had buffet food and karaoke which was nice, even got a takeaway box. The music downstairs was very enjoyable, the dj that night knew exactly how to keep the crowd entertained. Would definitely go again.

As a restaurant in London, it must be a very nice one, and not expensive— a Thai food restaurant near Southwark station. Foods are correct and quite voluminous. Also buffet style course is available, which allows you to pick whatever you like from the big counter plates of Asian foods. Staff are kind but understaffed, thus from time to time, service is slow but within permissible range.

Our waiter unfortunately I don't remember his name was from Malaysia went above and beyond. The food was good but I wouldn't say amazing, I look forward to going back on a Friday night for the club night and also try out the Karaoke room.

The food was reasonably priced (set meal two) and delicious, whilst also arriving quickly one course after the last. Our waiter Kane was very pleasant and professional, and was more than happy answering all of our questions. Would highly reccomdend!

One of my all time favourite places to eat in London; great food and atmosphere. It is a little expensive but I feel the price is justified by the quality of food you get here.

Non-pretentious place where you can grab a drink after work while having the best thin fries and calamari. Really cheap place with great staff. Cannot recommend enough!

went to Thai Silk for an evening meal and the service was polite attentive and the staff understood the concept of vegetarian food without oyster sauce! The food was beautifully cooked and presented ,with so many options that we did not feel restricted. Good timing ,lovely surroundings and friendly staff. Would definitely go again and recommend others to go too.

Popped in here for a late night dinner, and have to write a review as I had a great experience. It was closing, but staff made sure we had time to order - and then, when I asked whether a dish had soy sauce (I can't have wheat so can't share any plates with soy sauce), they whisked it back to the kitchen to replace it with the same dish without soy sauce (and presented the sauce on the side for the others). Had another member of staff pop by and check that all was well regarding food allergies. Very friendly, professional - and great food. Highly recommended for people with intolerances, as they are on the ball.

Very good service. The jungle curry was hot enough but not tasty enough. The massaman Citi on the other hand, was really really nice. It's a bit hit and miss. Spring rolls okay, satay chicken nice. Would go again.

Nice food, very spacious and friendly

I come here quite frequently as I work in a nearby office. All of the staff are great, food is excellent and atmosphere is welcoming at all times of the day. Drinks are really reasonable either by the bottle or by the round (especially during happy hour). They reserve tables both inside and outside - a brilliant place for all occasions!

Just round the corner from Southwark tube station - good service and extensive menu - great for office get togethers or a bite to eat after work.

Very good location close to Southark underground. Cocktails are not too pricey. Very busy on Friday night, the bar turns into a club with live dj. Definitely a valid option for drinks aftwr work.

Came here for a team lunch. At first it seems like a very spacious and nice eclectic Thai venue. But throughout the experience i realise that this is not authentic at all and just another fake restaurant claiming to be Thai. The starter platter was ok, and the main beef dish was intriguing - quite tangy but edible. Overall the food was ok lacking much of the authentic Thai spices and herbs. The staff was good and helpful but for the price the food needs to be improved before I would consider coming back again.

Hay un comedor, un bar y un encantador patio exterior. Demasiado frío para eso para nosotros esta noche, pero el comedor es realmente encantador. Muy bien decorado y cómodo. La comida y el servicio eran excepcionales. Cada plato estaba bien preparado y tenía su propio sabor y sabor. No se adapta a todas las salsas, etc. Esta es una comida tailandesa de muy alta calidad en un lugar muy agradable.

Appetizers were OK, but the set menu main dishes were a big dissapointment. Food was bland, sweet and sour chicken was just a sour broth, while the stir-fry pork was on a level of someone trying to start with cooking.

Best green curry in town. Food here is absolutely fantastic, never disappointing. If you like Thai, not many places that could match, and none for the price....

Very attentive staff, food tasty and hot. Had a Panang curry and it was spicy warm and tasty with good size prawns. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we were served quickly.

Food was reasonable for the price and portions a good size but atmosphere was poor. Large restaurant under a railway arch so you could hear the trains rumbling over head but that was not the problem. It is connected to a bar next door where the toilets are located and the music was extremely loud. When the door was open to the bar it was difficult to have a conversation. There are better places in Waterloo.

A day spent visiting galleries in London. Finished off with a lovely meal.

Good bar and restaurant. Big outside area for the good weather sofas and space for when it's not so good. Close to Waterloo (5 min walk) set under railway arches with 2 other bars and restaurants. A good place for a chilled out night. Gets busy Fridays as you'd expect.

Even though it's a stack it high and sell them cheap, lunchtime menu is very delicious and very popular. Conveniently located for Southwark and Waterloo East stations, and with many sister restaurants across the capital, Thai silk achieves its aim beautifully. A lovely ambience with friendly helpful staff. Especially Julie.

Good music, a little loud...food bland..

Great value especially before seven pm

Arrived at venue and was greeted by a rather unwelcoming woman who I told we had a reservation. She told us we could sit anywhere (as it was practically empty), so we chose a table which she then said actually no we couldn't sit there, so we moved to the table next to that which she then said no, that's reserved too (no reserved signs anywhere), then she picked up our knives and forks and put us on a different table next to a pillar. We were a bit taken aback by her hospitality or rather lack of.

A place for business and pleasure

Some many dim sums. A good spot for post work drinks that can get a bit loose. Gets busy and is fun.

I came to the Thai Silk Southwark for a few drinks early on Friday. There is an offer 5-7pm where there is 2 cocktails for £9.95. The Cocktails were fairly basic but did have two shots in them so were reasonable value. There is also a decent range of larger at a reasonable price for London. I had a Kirin (Japanese Beer) that was £4.80 a pint. This is not a must visit but isn't a bad pub, especially as there is a large beer garden at the front.

Large Thai. Very average food.. Very samey menu and quite honestly, very disappointing.
