Thai Kitchen in Liverpool

I've been thinking about writing this for years - we've been coming here even longer. My only hesitation is its size. Small enough to fill up easy - not that it does very often. And there's the conundrum - a baffling average score on Trip Advisor. As a lover of Thai food - cooking, eating out and travelling to Asia - I can't recommend this place enough. They're not doing anything unusual or gourmet, but for great flavoursome authentic Thai food this place is off the scale - and it's relatively cheap. Favourites include Laab Moo, Crying Tiger, Drunken Noodles and especially Phad Chaa Seabass. In many years, we've not had a bad dish yet and the Mixed Thai Starter is as good as it gets. The Plain Rice Noodles at £3.50 are superb - not far off a veggie Phad Thai - and the staff are mega friendly. But no need to crowd the place out - they do takeaways too....

We have been frequenting this restaurant for years. There is plenty of choice and the food is always delicious. The best thing about this restaurant is the staff. They are just lovely. Lee the owner is charming and very welcoming, and Nancy who waits on tables is so warm and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. Can't recommend it highly enough. Even when it is really busy, as it was on New year's eve, the service is still really good.

OMG what else can I say ,I’m here now and the food and service is top draw ! We wil DEFINITELY BE BACK ! From the service to the quality of the food and staff/owner everything is faultless! Try and u will not be disappointed I promise

Me and my friend went here on Tuesday night. The food was Honsetly so so nice. Such a shame it wasn’t busy as it really deserves more customers. Will deffo be back!!

On arrival greeted by Lee who was very welcoming. This is a small restaurant just run by Lee and her family only about eight to ten tables. But exceptional service the food was very reasonable price and very tasty. I had the steamed mussels for starters these were lovely the biggest mussels I have had followed by Drunken beef noodles full of fresh vegetables very tasty would recommend it.

Well I honestly don’t know where I begin here, to say I am ever disappointed Is an understatement. After visiting this restaurant various times in the past I didn’t think there should be any reason as to why I would check reviews, but I can only blame myself for that stupid error. It was my mother and father in laws 65th wedding anniversary and due to the current situation we couldn’t do anything to celebrate this so we decided to get them a takeaway and make out as though they had been for a beautiful meal. My father in law has dementia so we try and make the most of every occasion. The meal costs us a lot more than it normally would, it normally comes to £28-30 but tonight cost £41. We just put it down to current price inflation on certain items as we did order a seafood dish. Well if you could call it that. When the food arrived it didn’t look appetising at all, it looked like they had got any vegetables/salad possible and chucked it all in, there was full cherry tomatoes and cucumber in the sweet and sour and about a quarter of a chicken breast and in the Pacific seafood in black bean sauce there was 2 unscrubbed mussels, 1 prawn and 2 small pieces of calamari, roughly 2 whole peppers sliced, a full onion and other unidentifiable pieces of veg. The pad Thai noodles were stuck together like a gloopy kind of way, it was just the most unpleasant thing I have eaten in a long time. The fishcakes resembled a sausage patty from McDonald’s, the only thing Thai about it was probably the sweet chilli sauce they sent with it, it was basically inedible even the dog wouldn’t go near it. I used to recommend this place, and I can categorically confirm I wouldn’t even wish my enemy to eat here any longer. It really has gone from 10 to 0 in my eyes.

Came here New Years Eve before heading into town.New owners since my last visit, but that didn't affect the visit as staff were very friendly. Food and service were very good, endorsed by the fact that quite a few Thai people were visiting. Always a good recommendation. . Only disappointment was the lack of Singha beer. Strange that a Thai restaurant should have no Thai beer on a NYE. Apart from that, an enjoyable visit.

Took family this evening - food was terrible - processed and flavourless - owner more interested in chatting with her mates - waitress was sloth like - place was empty and little wonder Shame as use to be a good option and friendly environment - now it's rude service and bad food Back to Mays kitchen in future

Came here with my partner for some Tuesday evening grub and must say the service and food was top notch! Ordered cashew stir fry and veggie tofu Thai green curry, all cooked to perfection. Service was great with a very attentive waitress. Good value and good food :) thanks we'll be back!

Been going here for a while as it's my local Thai, well was my local Thai.... for the last few years the place has been run well under the name proy thai and now it's changed to I believe the owner who had it a few years back and well back to the old ways of ripping people off.. tried it on with me this week by trying to over charge.. but unlucky was wise to their ways as I heard them rip a couple off before me... Shame it has gone to this as previously it was good!! Beware and check the bill!!!

I’ve eaten in Thai Kitchen at least two dozen times in the past 2 years and it’s really, REALLY gone downhill of late. The restaurant is looking really shabby; the outside is filthy and the quality of the food is not what it used to be. They no longer take card payment; no longer offer discount for takeaway(!?); the food itself used to be delicious and somewhere I always looked forward to going to. The flavour is just not there any longer. Sadly I won’t be back.

I ordered the veggie pad thai with tofu and there wasn’t one piece of tofu in it. The food was bland and gloppy. My partner ordered chicken pad thai and he wasn’t impressed either. The chips used for the salt and pepper chips were frozen. This place is a takeaway dressed up as a restaurant and the food is not worth the restaurant prices. Atmosphere wasn’t great either. I was sat right next to an air freshener which kept going off and the scent was overwhelming. Service was fine, but if you’re expecting authentic Thai street food as the sign suggests then you will be greatly disappointed.

Food is so amazing. I go weekly when I am working in Liverpool. Always fresh with great service. It is a must. I recommend the prawn green curry and also the honey ribs. Best I’ve tasted. Wel done guys you are brilliant.

Solía ser la mejor manera de ir de noche para parejas o hacer pedidos cuando los amigos son redondos, pero me sorprendió la reducción dramática en el tamaño de la porción la última vez que ordené. Los contenedores estaban solo a un tercio llenos. Nunca solía ser así. Supongo que es una cuestión de reducción de costos, pero los precios no se han reducido. Un poco sombrío para seguir muriendo de hambre después de una comida para llevar. Clasifíquelo por favor, ya que la calidad y el sabor son fabulosos y es una pena arruinar algo bueno con las porciones miserables.

Nuestra primera visita a este restaurante. Está ubicado en Smithdown, bastante fuera del centro de la ciudad. Buena comida, buenos precios, buen servicio. Bastante pequeño, así que aconsejaría reservar con antelación. Aunque fuimos un sábado por la noche tarde, había algunas mesas vacías. Sin embargo, fue una noche horrible y cuando se dice que este es el mejor restaurante tailandés de Liverpool desde Smile y Sabai, es probable que eso cambie.

Me pase el restaurante a y desde el trabajo sobre una base diaria, y yo fuimos a probarlo, para la cena (Sábado 20 de octubre), y no me decepcionó. Hay una buena variedad de comida para elegir, el personal era muy amable y servicial. Es un lugar precioso, pero pequeña, muy bien distribuida. La comida era absolutamente maravilloso, y no demasiado caro, de hecho yo he pagado más en otros lugares no tan agradable para las comidas. Volveremos sobre una base regular. Muchas gracias por una excelente comida.

Me pase este lugar diariamente y NUNCA pensé en probar la comida, tengo que decir que mi amigo me lo sugirió y me alegro de haberlo hecho la comida es sensacional fue también adorable totalmente. El personal es cálido y acogedor, y te hacen sentir muy cómodo, me encanta este sitio y seguro para decir que va a ser la normal, también tienen comida para llevar demasiado mejor que algunos crap tienes en comer solo, dadle una oportunidad a este sitio no te arrepentirás, chicos bien hecho

¡Qué lugar! Una joya en el centro de Smithdown! Fui con dos colegas, uno de los cuales es de Tailandia, y nos recomendó lo que pedir. La comida estuvo fuera de este mundo. El Pad Thai es la mejor que he probado, y el pollo panang era para morirse. el personal era excelente y muy servicial. En general, yo volveré aquí muchas veces.

This place is popular with Thai people which is a good sign that it is authentic food being sold here. My Thai wife took me here and I decided to go for fishcakes and kuay teow, a quintessentially Thai dish that is one of the most popular in Thailand. I thought that this would be a good test for the authenticity of the food. I wasn't disappointed, it tasted almost as good as being in Thailand so I was impressed. I would have given five out of five had it not been for the service, for one thing they tried taking my fishcakes off me before I had finished them all. Oh well, I'm sure that won't be the last time I eat here so maybe next time I'll be writing a five out of five review if the service improves, there's certainly no problem with the quality of the food here.

I went to have a meal there with my kid. The food was very nice. But it wasn't any table to sit in. I heard from one of the staff in thai kitchen. He siad "It's new manangement the will be no longer call thai kitchen, it will be call Proy thai kitchen." I been to thai kitchen long time a go, the food were not like this. It much batter now. Give it a try you will loved.

Having worked and lived in Thailand for over three years I have found it hard to find good authentic Thai food in the uk. Thai kitchen addresses this and on the recommendation of a local Thai. Very friendly staff (no surprise there), pretty extensive menu offering a wide number of Thai and Laos dishes. Isaac influences make a great eating experience. We went for seafood mains. Nice sized portions with a great choice of rices. Nice to see sticky rice. Deserts of fruit, sticky rice, coconut sealed the deal. My only disappointment was that my fave Thai drink naam mnao was not available. The menu is so good we'll be returning very soon. Drink, starter, main, desert to share £20 per person which I thought was good. You'll find it hard to find better tasting food. It's not a big place with only 8ish tables. Just eat have it on their website so takeaway is an alternative. I prefer kitchen to table service but that's personal.

We were recommended to come here but unfortunately it wasn't anything special and was quite expensive. The cocktails were well made and nice but the food was a 4 out 5. It is authentic but not the best of similar dishes I've had.

The goodness lovely. Had a fried rib eye beef dish in a curry sauce , the chefs recommendation. The price was ok also. They seemed to have a wide selection of dishes also. The only downside was that separate having visa stickers on the window , they didn't have a card machine. The waiter told me to use the one next door in the convenience store. The problem was that it was a chargeable cash machine. That is one of my pet hates having to pay to withdraw my own cash. They had a sticker saying visa on the window. So please if you take cash only , advertise cash only.

Food was really disappointing. Tasteless and dull and was actually quite cold. I've been there a few times before and it was much better so maybe just having an off day but I wouldn't order from them again. Ingram on Picton road is much better and tastes more authentic I think.

The second time I've ordered from this place. The food is lovely. However, they got my order wrong, and the Gaeng Massaman that I ordered didn't come with peanuts, or sweet potato, or red crispy onion, and it came with no rice. It wasn't supposed to be spicy, but it was... I really appreciated that they delivered to my house which is not within their ratio delivery, but I just think that paying £7.00 without getting any rice and the wrong ingredients wasn't very professional. Sorry.

This place is so good. Just had the jungle curry and very tasty indeed.

Overall it was good, though for the price you would expect better quality food as it wasnt exactly cheap.

I wait nearly two hours for my food. I called to ask where it was and was told the delivery driver had left 30mins ago so of course I was worried the food would be cold. The person insisted it wouldn't be but of course it was but by that point I was sick of dealing with them. I have ordered from Thai Kitchen before and the portion size was much bigger, I think I might have had a bum deal this time round so won't be ordering again.

They got the order wrong. It was only two dishes and they mixed up what was in both. Good food but annoying and lack of care.

I thought the food here was gorgeous. I had the ribs, and a curry. Flavours were amazing and the price is very reasonable too. The restaurant was very clean and our waiter was nice. The only downside was the chef, she was shouting in an angry way quite a lot, and you could hear it from the restaurant whilst eating our meal. I guess that can't have a positive effect on the other staff...But anyway, I would go back there.

We had to throw it away and get a refund from justeat. It was awful. It was so bad I had to put it straight in the bin. The meat tasted really strange and the curry was very watery and had a strange smell. I will never order from here again.

We called for a takeaway and the person on the other end of the phone was unbelievably rude, saying 'whatever' all the time and was generally arrogant and disinterested. No manners at all. At one point he was actually affronting so we just cancelled the order. Manners don't cost anything! Won't be calling again.

Placed an order at 7pm based on delivery time between 40-60 mins. Called at 8:15 and 8:40, both times immediately told it was on it's way despite not being given the chance to say who/what the order was for. Cancelled the order via Just Eat after a 2 hour wait and no delivery. Cannot review quality as did not receive order.

Delivery took nearly 2 hours despite estimated 45-60 minutes.No help when I phoned up.Overall very disappointing given the relatively high prices.

Delivery has always been very fast from here and the vegetarian options are great and very tasty.

I really like the food from this place, but I do find it strange that sometimes you have to pick it up and sometimes it will be delivered. We already had occassions where that seems to have changed while we were still chosing our food. Some more consistency (e.g. clear timetable of when there is delivery and when not) would be helpful.

Went to Thai Street food Smithdown rd Sunday,not been for ages, the food was ok but the service was scatty.We had to wait nearly a 10 mins for rice and noodles after our mains came out, by which time our sizzling steaks weren't sizzling any more,two drinks were brought out and then a wait for third,it wasn’t busy just a bit dippy. The food is obviously cooked fresh and mixed starter was good,( mains ok), but the service is a bit of a let down. Could do better.

We ordered a takeaway with the Thai Kitchen and were terribly disapointed...the food never came. After an hour and a half waiting we tried to reach the restaurant. After numerous attempts we finally got through to learn that our food would be with us in 30min (more than 1hour delay from the original delivery time). Having already paid online we were left with no other choice to wait again.Finally, another hour later our patience wore out and we called over 30 times the restaurant without any response!!! This was a terrible experience with poor service. We will never order from the Thai Kitchen again that's for sure!! We stronly recommend people to think twice before ordering with them...On the bright side, our money was refund by JustEat, we were so happy to have not ordered direct from the ThaiKitchen!

Never had such poor quality service in my life. The meal was 2 and a half hours late (as we hadn't pre-paid) and wasn't even worth the trouble as food was awful. Fish was bad and spring rolls were soggy. However the delivery man allowed a discount. Never ordering here again.

Thai authenticity seems to have diminished somewhat over recent months. When i first went the food was bold in traditional flavours of lemongrass, coriander, coconut etc. I visited last week and the meals were not as intense in flavour and were instead filled with what i would consider more generic veg (broccoli, cauliflower, baby sweetcorn in a penang curry?!). Whoever was cookong previously needs to come back!

Very tasty indeed and arrived hot. Delivery was quick too. Perhaps a little pricey -- especially the £5 starter and the rice which while perfectly acceptable if normally priced, were not what you'd call large portions.

The food was amazing. We both really enjoyed it...however after waiting an hour and 45 minutes for delivery, we would have eaten anything! The service was poor when we rang twice, both times saying it was on it's way and then still not arriving. It's a shame as the food was really good but probably wouldn't order again due to the delivery wait.

It was late and when it got here it needed a quick blast in the microwave (think the delivery man got lost?!) but that said when it arrived it was well worth the wait! All of it was gorgeous and cooked perfectly so would definitely go again despite the wait!

All 4 dishes were completely inedible. Covered in grease and tasted bland. It was like a completely different restaurant than the one i ordered from last week. Wont be back unfortunately.

The delivery driver said the place was a disaster and the system is awful; he apologised even though it wasn't his fault. Naturally, the food wasn't very warm!

Food delicious. Best Thai food I've had in Liverpool. Reasonable price and friendly staff. Wait of an hour and a half though not acceptable and food required reheating. Great food still but won't get a takeaway/delivery again will pay the restaurant a visit instead. Not sure if delay is falt of restaurant or website.
