The food was gorgeous, incredible taste. The dirty cow was amazing, most tender steak I've ever had. The service was excellent. More expensive than most places but for the quality I certainly don't think it was unreasonable in fact I would have expected it to be more. For the quality of the food the price was more than fair. I am definitely going back there.

After meaning to go here for years finally got round to it & it didn’t disappointThe menu is simple but unique with some great looking dishes.I got the beef jungle curry which was very hot, the beef was very tender. Also in our group we got the sticky nutty chicken which was great. And a yellow curry which was tasty tooWill definitely become a regular here

Visited on Wednesday for the first time. And we definitely would visit again. The waitresses were all lovely, the food was fantastic. Nothing bad to say, eat out to help out scheme on so £30 off meal which was good too.

We visited here as a party of 3 on the 18/08/20,the booking was made a week before.On entering the restaurant we informed the lady we had a booking for 6pm and we were then shown to the bar/waiting area where we were shown to a really low uncomfortable table which would have been really difficult to eat from.I asked the lady why we could not go into the main restaurant area and she said it was fully booked.We should have been informed of this at the time of booking so we had no option but to sit right beside the door where a steady stream of customers came in and got ushered through to the main restaurant.I don’t think that you should be charged the same prices as the main restaurant when you have been shoved in the bar area.I have been to Thai Bay on many occasions but I will never go back.The food was mediocre and wasn’t worth the money even with the government discount.In hindsight I wish I had walked out and saved £ 51.

Great post lockdown Saturday night dinner. Good Covid measures in place and staff happy and attentive. Food was piping hot and portions well sized. Calamari was perfect and plenty to go around. Sea parcels for main was just the right level of spice. Will return.

Me and my girlfriend went to Thai bay on Valentine’s Day. We were handed a free glass of Prosecco on arrival which was a nice touch. For starter I had the ribs and she had the king prawns which were some of the largest prawns we have ever had. For the main I had a duck Thai red curry which had a kick to it and she had the pork noodles. Overall the food was very tasty and the service was helpful and polite.

Pre concert meal . Well worth a visit . Very large bowl of soup just a bit disappointing it didn’t have the fried dried chillis on as it was advertised. The spicy chilli sauce for the prawn crackers was only sweet chilli so again a bit disappointing . Main courses were plentiful and very tasty . All in all very good

It’s been about 3 yrs since we last visited & I don’t know why it’s took so long to return. The restaurant was very busy and it has a lovely welcoming atmosphere. We seated in a quiet corner, they have a excellent offer on, any starter & any main for £15 before 7pm. I ordered the fish cakes & the red Thai curry, unreal!! Salt & pepper chips & noddles to share, my partner had calamari for starter & the jungle curry(extremely hot). Absolutely can’t wait to return

We were a party of 8 people and were eating early evening prior to our craft session booked at the MBC Arts Centre .We all ordered starters and a main on the special early evening menu- 2 course for £15.We didn't have a lot of time so we asked if our starters could be packed up for a takeaway ( for supper!) and we all had various main meals.I ordered the Changmai chicken curry with jasmine rice. It was delicious. We all enjoyed our food and were very impressed at the service.We hope to visit again soon!

Visited this Thai Resto,to try their Pad Thai.,have eaten different Thai resto before,I must say their taste delicious, Big amount of serving, actually can be shared with 2. Price is just right for a lunch meal deal.Ambiance looks fine, a touch of Thai design, staff was attentive towards guest but only because I think there’s only 2 customer at that time.However, toilet looks dated, got a soap dispenser but no soap, got a hand dryer but not working, that’s just what I noticed.

Too expensive, place is run down, service is nice but waitress didn't know the menu and the ingredients.The menu on the board was different from the printed menu. The waitress could not tell why the prices were different for the same dishes on the board and printed menu, suggesting that it's maybe because the board was written long time ago. Which is ridiculous because the paper menu looked old too. I asked for some paper tissue and I was given some blue kitchen towel.Not sure why people are saying that this place is reasonably priced.. maybe only lunch deal for £11. On the full price menu the cheapest main is £14 which is way too much for what you get.£40 for 1 started, 2 mains, 1 drink. I wish we went else where

Wow..What an experience.We had a favourite Thai restaurant in Hartlepool and I thought they were the best but I realise I can have more than one favourite. What can I say; superb service was just the start. We started with a great wine then followed with a sharing platter for two and a papaya salad, and would have ordered prawn crackers too, but whilst the staff could easily have taken our money and served us the crackers, we were advised that it might be too much....and they were right. The portions were more than enough and the flavours were beyond discription. For the mains we had seven sea parcels and a green curry and both were amazing.Some reviewers have said this restaurant is expensive but we don't think so.Our bill was just short of £100 but we did have two bottles of wine, three starters and two mains and we are more than happy to pay for the quality.What a fab place to eat.

We were really excited after reading the menu and really disappointed with the food. The price is way more expensive than anyone else, £23.90 for two dishes with rice, so we’re expecting great things. Food was so over salted it was inedible and we had to order from elsewhere. The size and presentation was extremely poor. Suggest that they review pricing as their competitors offer way better value and quality.

First time at the restaurant and I was not disappointed the food was excellent the staff was great .Will come back again definitely.

Had a meal in July 2019 decor was good bur tried a red curry which was tohot for me starter was fine but think try something different if go back friend hada milder one which she said was fine so must have been me picking wrong choice

Visited with friends & ordered from the early bird menu, available until 7pm I think. Service was good, attentive without being all over you. Mixture of food but the chicken satay was amazing as was the nutty chicken main. All food served piping hot & tasted beautiful, very authentic. Brilliant night, will defo be back, thanks!

Went for lunch, but have changed their hours and no longer serve lunch even though there was a lunch menu outside. Are these people trying to drive customers away.

If you like thai food go here. We called in on spec for lunch and are we glad we did. We chose lunchtime special for £11.95 which inc a starter a main and a soft drink. The food didnt disappoint, it tasted and was presented like exactly what you would get in Thailand, it was delicious. We often park in Sunniside so im guessing we'll be dropping in there again. I cant recommend this highly enough for thai food lovers.

I have been many times, without a doubt this is my favourite Thai place. The food is absolutely amazing, all the staff are friendly and make you feel at home without infringing on your privacy. I absolutely love this place, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed and it will become one of your favourite restaurants

Decided to go on a rare night out with my wife as I've been with friends a few times.

4 of us visited Saturday night. table was checked but as we shown through 1 chair was missing no cutlery. Napkins or glasses on table, Table very sticky, ordered drinks still not offered glasses until we ordered second round. food average we have been here before and this time was a huge let down, 2 toilets no loo roll in 1 and no signs on doors to say male or female. we did get email to say no card machine or till so had to pay cash which wasn't a problem but bill was wrote out by hand. could have been much better.

There are a lot of menu options to choose. Very good meal offers in evening. The staff are quite friendly!

Surprised at latest reviews as I've had a brilliant experience every visit. Last time we went was during the Tall Ships Race and we were the only table in there from 5 - 6.30pm which was crazy given their early evening menu is such a fantastic deal. The service is 'mixed.' Some waitresses were very attentive and made us feel very special whereas others ... let's just say they needed a little training? They weren't rude but lacked the proper waitress etiquette. The food was amazing. We shared a variety of starters - dim sum, vegetable spring rolls and chicken satay. For mains, I had the seafood parcel which was weird but very enjoyable - kind of a thai paste coating a generous helping of fish and seafood wrapped in foil. I like to be adventurous and try new things and this was certainly 'different.' All in all, fantastic value and authentic cuisine. Will go back for more!

Starter came out cold and staff just shrugged it off !

Booked on the Facebook site for an anniversary, on arrival was put into the bar area instead of the actual dining area which was most uncomfortable because of the booking not showing up even though we had a confirmation email. I then continued to wait for 15 minutes before even being offered a drink, with staff walking past constantly. Poor service from the booking stage, customer journey obviously isn’t a part of Thai Bay’s strategy. Also, waited over an hour for a starter which is ridiculous at any level of restaurant.

A spur of the moment takeaway with friends , collected in town. 10% off the normal menu price , still a more expensive than normal take out.

been here a few times and it was my first stop after i flew in from new zealand missed my thai food from here so much. the staff and surroundings are second to none always made to feel like family.

My friends treated me to a meal out whilst I was visiting my home town.

Very reasonable, but not massive portions. Everything was very tasty, I had the pork duo and it was obviously re-heated hence the 4 and not a 5. I think I would order a hot one next time.

None of our party (4 Of us) had been here before so decided last minute to have a go.

Our monthly meal out this month took us to a hidden gem in a quiet corner of Sunderland. The restaurant menu offers their own slant on Thai cuisine with some popular familiar dishes scattered across the page. We started with two of the sharing platters with our guests opting for the seafood themed one while ours was more meat centered. Each sharing board comes with a couple each of four of the starter selections and they proved to be a great idea as we were struggling to choose single dishes and this gave us a great introduction to the Thai Bay slant on things, chicken skewers smothered in satay, ribs, spring rolls and dim sum for us. Delicious. I had the pork on pork duo main course, a mound of rice topped with crispy belly pork and tender pork slices smothered in a very tasty sauce with another dipping sauce on the side. Wifey had the nutty chicken which was served in a potato rosti style bowl and also came with rice, a huge portion, great value. Thai restaurants can be a bit monotonous with the same dishes appearing at them all but Thai Bay just puts enough twist on it to keep it interesting, with generous portions at a reasonable price. Top job, we will be back.

Went for a mothers day meal. Staff greeted our party with a smile and led us to our table. Staff quickly came over for our drinks order. Our starter meals came after 10 mins from ordering. Polite staff came over to ask if the food was ok. Nice touch. We ordered our main meals and again polite approach from the young lady with reference to our food. The atmosphere was really relaxed with soft music playing in the background. A nice and relaxed evening with the manager coming over to chat. We will be back. Nice and tidy location. Staff great as always. Good quality food. Good price also.

Popped in for a bite to eat before went to cinema.. looking about for somewhere nice to eat at around 4 ish in Sunderland was a struggle. But stumbled on this place.. food was unreal. Ribs for starters was on par with best ribs have had. Then we t for drunken duck for mains. Extremely spicy but just fantastic flavours. And did not realise but the kind waitress pointed out that could have 2 course for £13. Couple of beers and wine. Bill was £40 which was fab for what we got. Will definitely be back. Service wad great also

This was our first visit to the Thai Bay and it certainly won't be our last. We had a table booked a table for 7pm but arrived early the friendly waitress took us to a choice of tables and quickly took our drinks order. Our drinks arrived swiftly with a smile and I asked for some recommendations which she kindly did. We opted for a sharing bay for 2 as a starter. It arrived to the table piping hot and beautifully presented. The Chicken Satay and sauce was amazing - plenty of tender moist chicken and lots of satay sauce. The Chilli Ribs were divine - full of tender meat and melted in the mouth. The fishcakes and dips were lovely too and the spring rolls. For main course I chose Korat Noodle with pork and duck - exquisite flavours, beautifully presented piping hot. My Husband opted for the Original Saucy Dirty Cow served with jasmine rice. The flavours were lovely, the food was freshly prepared and the meat very tender. This is fabulous flavoursome authentic thai food and well presented. The combination of ingredients really worked and the service was very friendly and professional. Thank you for a lovely evening and see you soo.

Favourite restaurant in Sunderland! After finishing work late on Saturday we called in for another beautiful meal and drinks! Starter for 3, 3 mains and 5 drinks at £65 was a steal!

I went to Thai Bay with friends.The food was served nice and it tasted lovely.Service could not be faulted.

Great atmosphere although if you’re seated at the back of the restaurant be sure to have your coat at the ready as there is a hefty draft coming from somewhere. We decided to go for the sharing platter to start then the Pad Thai and Thai Green Chicken Curry, the curry was by far the hottest I’ve ever had and for a Thai green a little to hot which spoilt the flavours. After picking out all the chillies I now know why.

I really enjoyed my dinner. All dishes were served fresh and well presented. The dipping sauce for prawn crackers was so delicious. Salmon salad was spicy and tasty as expected. The crying tiger was served with flavourful spicy sauce. The stir fried noodle with pork was my favourite. Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like to fancy Thai foods!

This place is great! Very authentic food and lovely helpful staff. We have now visited three times and each time the food is cooked to perfection. My new favourite place to eat.

Thai Bay is without doubt the best restaurant in Sunderland. The value for money and the quality of the food is outstanding. The staff are all fantastic and the attention to detail is second to none. The restaurant itself is decorated to a very high standard and projects a warming,relaxing and welcoming ambience. The restaurant has an extensive wine and cocktail list,which are all reasonably priced and of a high standard.

My daughter and I visited on a Sunday afternoon, unfortunately it was very quiet so lacked a bit of atmosphere, but the food and decor of the place certainly made up for that. We had 2 courses for £13 and they were wonderful, the best Thai food I have eaten in the UK. We will definitely be returning, maybe on an evening when it is a bit busier, I would recommend trying this restaurant

My family and I went to Thai Bay yesterday for our tea. We were amazed at how tasty and full of flavour each meal was. My 6 year old son had chicken and noodles and even those were totally scrumptious! Portion sizes were extremely generous and the service was excellent.

First impression is that the restaurant was opened with a tight budget. Decor isn't great and confused. But that is ok if food is good.

This is one of my favourite restaurants to eat at in town. The atmosphere is great, the food excellent & the service is second to none!!! I wish I could name my favourite dish, but every time I go I try something different & I'm never disappointed. The prices I'd say were mid range, and the quality and flavours are excellent. My wife likes the cocktails & again these are reasonably priced. Looking forward to our next visit!!! ☺

I first came here with my partner shortly after it first opened and have been back on numerous occasions for date nights, with friends and family!

Went on Valentine's night food was amazing and staff very attentive! Advise to book as always busy! The food is authentic Thai food!!

Visited here yesterday with friends and did not have a good experience. We arrived for our booked table and the restaurant was very busy. After seating, a waitress came after to order our drinks and she was ok but without much conversation. Then another waitress came after to order our food. She was similar in temperament and they both seemed inexperienced. I asked this waitress what meat ingredients were in my main meal and she was indifferent and gave me a guess. For my starter I ordered spring rolls and these were average, no different to anywhere else. For my main I ordered the Silom Fried Rice without pork, which the waitress assumed had in. When the mains were brought, she didn't seem convinced which one was mine and which one was for another member of our table. I also ordered a side of chips. The rice came with an awful smelling and tasting sauce on the side and was topped with the greasiest fried egg I have ever seen. The rice itself was mainly bland and tasted like any other Chinese takeaway at three times the price. The meat in it was just boiled and I could taste the grease in the rice. The chips were inedible as they were soggy with grease and tasted of old oil. Needless to say, the bathroom consequences the next morning were not pleasant. I left most of the chips and rice and we all decided not to have a dessert as there were only three announced to us with no menu. The toilet facilities were scruffy, only one toilet for men and one for women, and it had a broken toilet seat, wet floor and a useless hand dryer. Service was not great as stated and we were served by three different people. We were also told after asking, that card payments couldn't be taken at the table and had to be paid in the bar. Overall a disappointing experience, paying £21 for an inadequate meal, and I wouldn't return.

Excellent food. Lovely place and nice, friendly staff. Boyfriend had dim sum starter and king prawn jungle curry which he loved and I had the chicken satay starter and (as I dont actually like thai food,sadly) the burger. Even though I'm not into Thai, I still felt like I'd had a good meal!

Myself and my boyfriend visited here last night, the food and cocktails were perfect. We have visited Thailand last year and we both thought the food met our expectations. The staff were lovely and really helpful and talkative, which is always nice. Highly recommend.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for a wonderful meal served here lately. The staff were more than accommodating for our needs and our lovely beef pad thai and curry instantly transported us back to the fresh and vibrant place that is Thailand! We will definitely be returning again- definitely an undiscovered gem of Sunderland!

Visited Thai bay for the first time last Saturday night and really enjoyed it. Lovely set up and food was delicious. We ordered grilled prawns for starter and some prawn crackers (they didn't come out until main meal), nutty chicken and duck curry for main - both were served with jasmine rice.

We dined on Saturday evening for the first time. The layout of the menu is a bit odd and needed a bit of explanation from the staff but the selection on offer seemed reasonable. The service was fairly slow but this wan't really an issue and when the meal did arrive it was well cooked and pretty much as described. Decor and furnishing is reasonable.

I've been to this restaurant as a group of girls eating and drinking cocktails .. a family with the kids and as a couple ... every time the food is amazing and the service is great and always with a smile... I've been to Thailand twice and the food is very authentic ... more so than other Thai chain restaurants ... recommend the drunken duck .. mmmm

A great Thai restruant with a good menu. My partner and I both enjoyed our starters, mains and cocktails. Service was good but ould have been a little faster. We both agreed we would love to visit here again

Came here tonight when nothing was really open glad we found it instead of that horrible buffet that was in the city centre we had a starter for two then two main meals a side salad and more ribs as they were perfect fell off the bone!! And two lots of drinks all for 65 pound !! The blond waitress was really nice and good at her job thanks will be back soon :)

The first time I visited here I tried the nutty chicken which was fantastic, reasonably priced food and drinks and I couldn't fault it.

My husband and I went here at the weekend with 2 friends. Place wasn't too busy, but had a nice atmosphere. Staff were friendly and service was quick. The sharing platter was very tasty, although the thai fishcakes were disappointing and the chicken satay was apparently lovely. Our two friends had the Thai green curry, which they said was good but spicier than they expected. My jungle curry was hot but delicious and full of prawns. My husband had pad thai which he thought was disappointing, but I think that it was just a bad choice on his part. All in all, a very enjoyable night and yes I would certainly come back again.

Party of four went here on a Friday night. Place was busy if not full to capacity which gave a nice atmosphere. Staff really welcoming on arrival which continued throughout.

First time at this restaurant even though we have lived near it for years. Food was very nice, service was good, ambiance was reasonable. In all we enjoyed the night and the staff worked hard to make us feel welcome, however the manager needs to take a firmer hand. Wine came with the cork in and we had to ask for it to be removed, some of the staff would benefit from a little training on conversing with the customers and the background music was better suited to a night club than a Thai restaurant. Would we go back, yes, no hesitation but would like it to be a little more Thai and a little less town center.

Finest Thai food in Sunderland. Very busy on the night we visited, hence a slight delay in the food arriving, but well worth the wait. Definitely in the top 3 Thai restaurants in the North East.

I can not recommend this restaurant enough, the food is consistently superb, the staff are so friendly in a professional way. The atmosphere is fantastic with good background music adding to the ambiance. Huge thanks to Stacey and Naomi for making a huge fuss of us on Friday evening for my Auntie's birthday, it is much appreciated.

Superb. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was out of this world. I think the best I have tasted, and I love Thai food. Plenty of veggie options. I had a veggie jungle curry which is the hottest thing I have ever eaten, but oh so tasty. My wife had a veggie massaman curry, which was flavoursome to the max. These were washed down with reasonably priced drinks. We had a cocktail each before we left and I can heartily recommend those too. Go here, your taste buds will thank you.

Lovely little place in an up and coming part of Sunderland. Staff could not have been more friendly and went out of their way to accomodate my allergy and my daughters fussy eating. Good little bar if you just want to pop in for a drink.

Went there and me and my boyfriend were quickly seated and served without a booking. We were very good looked after by 3 waiters, who were really polite, friendly and very good at explaining the menu. We had the mixed platter for 2 with ribs & chicken and all of the food was delicious and beautifully arranged. For my main I had the Pork 'street style' meal and my bf had the red duck curry with noodles. I'm not a fan of spicy food but had a taste of the curry and the sauce was very rich and creamy. 3 course meal with 2 drinks was about £50. I will definitely be back again, maybe for lunch as it was a bit too loud on the table next to us. The only downside and reason I'm not giving full stars is the stairs on the entrance as it will prevent disabled people to get in, as well as the toilets being single room with no kind of mirror room or corridor to fresh up make up etc. No toilets for disabled too.

I only tried this place for the first time last week and I'm back again. The calamari starter is up there with the best dishes I've ever eating. The jungle curry has the spice but it isn't a instant hit so you eat to taste all the flavours. Wow. What a place. The staff a excellent, friendly and top of everything.

Visited on 4th Nov with friends. Had the chicken stay starter and the crying tiger. The food was absolutely delicious, came quickly and was well presented. Waiting staff were friendly and welcoming and had a bit of banter with us as one of my friends was a bit drunk. Took it all in their stride and had a good laugh. Would definitely go back.

Took a client to Thai Bay on a Friday lunchtime for a business meeting, he enjoyed it so much he asked to go back again when he was next visiting Sunderland.

Wife and I came here last Thursday and had a great time. Absolutely delicious food (drunken duck) great, friendly service and the place was packed! Always a good sign. Will be returning very soon.

I have been here a few times now and had great food, service is spot on, a few more smiles would be nice but hey the price is keen as mustard so no complaints. Lunchtime menu is good value and includes a soft drink.

Love Thai food and this did not disappoint. Jungle curry was very good and weeping tiger beef curry was excellent. Staff were very friendly providing an excellent service. Can not wait to go back and sample some more of there dishes.
