Thai Basil in South Gloucestershire

The spring rolls are very good here, nice and crispy! Good Thai food and service is friendly, a bit of a wait for the food but in general great place.

Popped in for lunch today. Absolutely amazing food and great value…. and lovely staff!

Ordered and collected within 25 minutes. Took about 10 minutes to actually pay when I arrived as they couldn't seem to work out the till to take cash. Use card if you can, clearly it would be easier. The massaman curry was OK, pad Thai was disappointing with about 4 prawns in total. Satay skewers were also disappointing compared to previous orders in the past. We haven't had Thai to takeaway for a while and I don't think we would again. Perhaps better to dine in.

6 of us went to Thai Basil tonight to celebrate my friend special birthday, comfortable easy location with free parking. My experience at Thai Basil exceeded my generalized expectations, especially the chef adjusted the spiciness for myself which I super appreciated The manager Imelda and Preeya served us whom went OVER and BEYOND they both gave us a 5 Star hotel attentive services, their services was impeccable, not too much trouble at all, extremely friendly, calm and very polite staff, delicious hot foods - Tom Kha with Prawns, Pad Poh Tak and Pad Thai with Prawn were among my favorites, but there were plenty of dishes to choose. Chocolate Birthday Cake with candles on the house was a surprise for my friend, thank you Thai Basil, really appreciated your effort. We all really enjoyed it tonight, now we are deciding to book our friend next birthday meal in December in your restaurant again. If you have not been to Thai Basil in Thornbury then you need to get there and enjoy. Highly Highly recommended, you won’t disappointed.

Ordered via website for collection time 1 1/2 hrs hence. Went to collect 5 mins early & food was ready. Got home 5 mins later and all food was cold. It had obviously been standing for a long time. We had to re-heat everything included re-frying the battered veg starter that would have gone soggy in the microwave Food itself was ok'ish, but battered veg was very oily and the green curry was tasty enough, but was almost a soup.

Very nice! It was so pretty and the food was divine. We even got candy at the end! The staff were so nice!

What an amazing evening. Jen booked this amazing restaurant and gave them the heads up it was my 60th. What exceptional effort went into making my birthday celebrations amazing. My table was scattered with happy birthday confetti. There was a banner across the windows. The food and service were fantastic. And to top it off, I was given a beautiful cake, candles and sung to by Imelda and her team. Just an extraordinary evening in Thornbury at a beautiful Restaurant. My partner and I love coming here. The food is always amazing. Portions are generous in particular the duck starter with lots of pancakes and hoisin sauce. Waiting staff are always very friendly and obliging. Fairly priced too. We would fully recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Didn’t manage to get photos of the starters but highly recommend the mince pork on the sesame toast, was delicious. Mains were great too, definitely will come back soon. Staff extremely friendly and everyone was so nice to us. Pad Thai was a bit sweet for my taste but nevertheless was really good.

REPLY: the given review wasn't because you couldn't accommodate us, it happens. The one star rating was given for the unacceptable rudeness of the woman who called us to tell that you don't have availability anymore. -- Didn’t get to go to the restaurant. Made a reservation online and 3 hours before was called by a rude woman saying that I could have the table for 2 hours from 5 pm instead 7 pm as booked. When I said it’s too early for me, she replied so sorry and hang up on me straight away.

One of my favourite places to eat in Thornbury.

A lovely special meal. We started to look through the main menu, struggling as we were spoilt for choice, so decided on the special Valentine's day set meal and were certainly not disappointed. 4 yummy starters, followed by 3 main course dishes and rice. The restaurant was subtly decorated with hearts with a red rose on every table (still beautiful almost a week later). The staff were friendly and attentive. All in all, a very special evening. First time to eat here again after they reopen, have to say it’s better than before!! The green curry is the best I’ve had in the UK, and the chicken breast in Pad thai is so tender it’s unbelievable. Lunch menu is very reasonable price, they improved the interior decor and the staff are super friendly. Lovely local restaurant and definitely will visit them regularly. High streets need our support.

We had an amazing meal. The quality in the past has been variable with different owners but whatever was going on before this Thai restaurant is excellent now. We shared chicken satay and pork ribs to start, the satay sauce was subtle but still nice. We had various Panang curries for mains (chicken, prawn and vegetable) and coconut rice. It was all top class - great portions and really tasty. The coconut rice was the best I’ve had. My veg parang with packed with a huge variety of veg which was excellent. The ladies serving us were great and the whole meal was really enjoyable.

Called in to the Thai Basil restaurant in Thornbury today for lunch. Having used the proprietors restaurant in Cheltenham previously was interested to see if the standards were as good. Imelda and Kit were up to their usual excellent standard. Lunch menu is terrific value (don’t know how they do it for the price). If you enjoy Thai food do give this restaurant a visit.

Recently had a take away from Thai Basil with friends and we were all very pleased with the quality of our take away. My partner has a nut allergy and the care taken in the questioning over her allergies and the oils they have cooked the food in impressed me and gave us a lot of confidence in what we were getting. Our friends from Hong Kong (now living in Bristol) visited us and we decided to take them to the Thai for lunch on Saturday. The food was again first class and our friends, who have travelled a lot in Thailand and Vietnam as well as having been Hong Kong residents said the food was genuinely authentic and could even tell us the oils that their meals had been cooked in. they said they had not found a restaurant in Bristol, up until now, doing Asian food that impressed them but would happily return here.

Had a family meal for 9 people last night, spacious layout, service was swift and friendly and food was absolutely delicious ! would highly recommend, they even gave my son a small bottle of prosecco when we were leaving as it was his birthday

An authentic Thai restaurant serving a typical range of the usual favourites, including both red and green curries. Takeaway service can be ordered online to collect at your preferred time, and this can be short notice or longer. Restaurant service is excellent and very quick.

Nueked fishcakes could have been nice but so over microwaved they were rubber eggs texture. 3 main course all over cooked microwaved rubbery chicken. Ketchup flavour in the sweet and spicy it was almost straight out of the ketchup bottle. Browned off oven chip chunks in the chicken satay. Cold rice was reheated in the microwave. I can't understand the good reviews on the food it's awful. Can only think that loyalty from the locals keeps the ratings up. Or other reviews are from people who've never eaten a decent Thai meal. Honestly this was a very poor Chinese take out nothing about the food said Thai standards.

We ordered a takeaway set menu for 2 @ £28 per head. I had to ring as the app was trying to charge for 3. The food was ready to be collected at the appointed time. The food was outstanding. There was only one container of rice which was surprising. There was sufficient of the other food. It is also very expensive, but you get what you pay for. The restaurant looked great and we will certainly use it again.

Visited here and its been refurbished a little. Food was great and service was very good. In Thornbury High Street and parking is easy in the local car park with a 5 min walk. A new menu from the old one sadly no Duck in Taramind which was one of my favs no longer on menu

Really really really good food, the new owners have turned it around. We travel over from Chepstow regularly and frankly if it was twice the distance we would still come.

Wow - so impressed with Thai Basil! We have never visited before and after all these years thought it would be a perfect opportunity with all the family together. The food was amazing, portion sizes were very generous and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommend a visit to try the delicious food. Also, brilliant, attentive service so thank you. Took my wife for a wonderful meal with friends to celebrate her birthday. The food we all had was excellent. Service was a little slow at times due to number of people in restaurant. But that was perfect for our group as it gave us time to talk and enjoy the food without being rushed

Probably the best Thai Iv ever had well with the visit

Went for a meal last night , we've been going to this restaurant for many years . We ordered a mixed starter for 2 people, it was half the size of the portion it used to be and at least a third more expensive, Tom yum soup was average and the Thai green curry was very dry and small . Its a shame they have lowered the food standards and upped the prices so much . Disappointed visit

Nice food, no vegan options evident. Service was friendly but slow, tho they were busy. Only 1 choice for alcohol-free beer, have had much nicer (sickly sweet). Would go again tho other venues preferred.

Good food and very reasonable prices

We were called back after trying to book a last minute dinner on NYE. All the food was amazing and we regretted ordering an extra starter with the set menu. It was just too much food! The only issue was being sat by the heater and it was a little warm. All in all a great experience and we will be back.

Fast and friendly service, generous portions of fresh tasty Thai classics at a fair price. Went early evening mid week, was quiet and were served really quickly, ordered too many delicious starters and struggled to eat the generous mains. Highly recommended.

We have been here many times over the years and the food has always been consistently good and, again, it didn't dissappoint. Food was good quality and tasty. Service was fast and attentive. The decor is in need of some investment and is looking a bit tatty. While the food has always been consistently good I won't ever be able to give 5 stars until they sort the gents toilets out which are quite frankly shameful.

The food is delicious, the seafood pineapple fried rice really surprise me that a whole pineapple serve on plate! Love it so much!

This place had amazing reviews so it was a must to try. There was 6 of us and we went for the set menu option B. The starters were amazing. So hot and the flavours perfect. Next was the mains. Again amazing. The flavours so good. Authentic. Tasty and so much of it. We asked for a little extra chilli and a special chilli oil came out. The flavour of this was amazing like it should be a bottled product. The staff were very friendly. Definitely a hidden gem and I would come here again. Well done.

Visited here again and had the Duck In Taramind, Penang Curry, Todkra -tiem Prik Thai Chicken and noodles all were lovely, the only thing I have noticed about the venue as that as it has lots of windows it can sometimes be a bit chilly....

Drove 10 miles for lunch here having been told by owner, who seemed annoyed we were even asking, open lunchtime - and it was closed. Sign in the door said closed Monday and Tuesday lunch times! They need to update their website.

This was hands down the best take out and Thai food I have ever eaten, I had the ribs followed by duck in a red curry paste and noodles. Absolutely superb . Just a shame I’m only in this area on a flying visit else...

Ate here tonight and was fantastic. Food delicious as expected and service from the young lad first class. Recommend this place and will be going back. Best Thai in whole of north Bristol / south Gloucestershire area.
