I have ordered from you 3 times the first order was lovely my husband and myself couldn’t complement your food enough the special curry was delicious and the rice was superb second time ordering we felt the curry was very sweet and not at all as nice as the previous order but it was ok so we didn’t say anything.. Tonight ordering special curry it was quite nice but we ordered some prawn toast it was disgusting inedible made from homemade bread chunks from stale bread no prawn filling on the top just sesame seeds very disappointing it wasn’t worth a pound let alone the several pounds spent on it!! There’s no prawn crackers in your shop so we ordered the prawn toast to soak up the curry which we couldn’t eat I’m sorry to say this but the meal was horrible and I won’t be ordering from here again

I’ve lived near this takeaway for years and have enjoyed it on countless occasions; a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes. I’ve always found the taste to be exciting and flavourful and always cooked well. They do a great job of bringing so many Chinese dishes to people at a good price. Personally I find they get the basics absolutely spot on: rice, chow mein, sauces and the like. Highlight is definitely the Thai Fried Rice.

I've been going here A LOT for years. It was my local since 2008. I've been away from Bristol for a year and couldn't wait to go back: it was awful. It was always expensive but worth it. Tonight it was bad for a cheap one but it was terrible and many dishes were £9. The prawns, bar one, were hard bullets and 'suspicious' tasting. The chow mein had no beansprouts. Battered prawns were tiny, hard, and swimming in grease. Noodles were so al dente they ended up al fresco. I cant believe how bad it was. My Mrs has never seen me throw a Chinese takeaway in the bin. I did tonight. I'd have just not have gone back if it was regular price, but I've written this review because it was bad and expensive too.

I don't like leaving negative reviews but the food we had from here on Sunday evening was very very poor. The Chicken Balls, Special Chow Mein, Spring Roll, Chips and Curry Sauce were completely inedible. The Satay Chicken, Egg Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Sauce were good. £52 is a lot of money to just throw away the food. Definitely our last visit here 😞

This has been my go to Chinese for years. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food itself is amazing, very flavourful and by far the best curry sauce I've had compared to any others in the surrounding area

I bought a Special Chow Mein only about an hour ago. A very less than average meal , not impressed , definately not going in there. again. No thanks. Disappointed. The reviews below are correct.

Overpriced and worst Chinese food I’ve ever eaten ! Wrong rice dish was send and full of prawns and I’m allergic to shellfish !!! No point complaining as it took ages to come

Friendly service but the food itself was really not nice. Chow mein seemed burnt, really dark, dry meat, we couldn't eat it as it didnt taste nice and wasnt nice to look at either. The spring rolls and chicken balls were also pretty dry, didnt seem very "fresh".

Came here tonight after about 3-4 months and OMG this is not the same place. Must be a new owner or chief. Had chicken chow main which was incredibly sweet, very dark brown laced with soya sauce. chilly shredded chicken incredibly sweet. Curry sauce was tasteless and hot, chow main noodles soft/mushy. What I feel conned! Rang to voice my opinion and was told “ nothing we can do” really? Never ever will I be back in there again!!! 😡 Anyone thinking of going there with this level of food don’t bother!

Mediocre at best. I don't know who supplies your chicken, but you need to change them. I revently had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. Just terrible and didn't taste of chicken.

Totally avoid at all costs we had family staying over we were fighting over the toilet all night needs to be inpected by environmental health!!!

I’m a vegetarian and unfortunately found meat in my meal. They should stipulate on their website if there is a risk of cross contamination. Awful. The phone call to the takeaway to report the above was also incredibly bizarre, I was quizzed and asked to bring back a dish so they could assess it. Being late on a Sunday evening, I refused. They offered a refund for the dish in question but the whole meal went in the bin. Come on?? Do better.

If you're suffering from salt deficiency this is the place for you. One visit and you'll be back over normal level.

Great food, but they always insist on cash payment. Seems very strange in this day and age when cards are accepted "almost' everywhere. Difficult to order online, system always seem to be 'down'. Have yet to get home delivery as advertised.

Always use this shop for Chinese. Staff are friendly and helpful. Food is always hot & portions are generous. Would totally recommend. Just wanted to add, this restaurant has a delivery service which is excellent, always delivers on time & food is always hot.

they hired me last week trained me for 2 days to tell me 5 mins before my shift thst i’m not suitable for the job, baring in mind training was unpaid. i sacrificed my school nights to do silly work for them stupid. absolutely muggy !!

Vile food freezing cold and raw chicken !!! I have it all in the bag ready and your prawn crackers are vile taste like gone off oil !! I'm going to report to health and safety !!!! Wish I read all this before eating it !!! Even the parrot and dogs turned their noses up at it,! Should be shut down !

This takeaway is astonishingly awful. The food and the way the establishment is run honestly keeps me up at night. First of all, I know the staff get paid extremely poorly if they even get paid at all. The shop isn’t hygienic and needs an inspection. The curry sauce is lumpy and full of oil don’t even get me started on the sweet and sour sauce. The egg fried rice tastes stale and I can tell that it was left overs from the night before. The staff are incredibly rude especially over the phone and the manager who lives upstairs is god awful. I have never written a review for anything before but this place has made me feel as if I need to warn people before they waste their money.

Ordered food on uber eats order never arrived but money has been deducted.i was waiting for 2 hours and cant resilve it on app as it still show order on its way.i live 3minutes away from store.

Delivery was double time quoted on just eat - 2nd time we've tried to use this place - don't bother. Food when arrived wasn't worth the wait either, rubbery old prawn crackers, some kind of fatty frankenstien chicken and luke warm. Never again.

Terrible service from the manager. Ordered a £20+ order via Uber eats and because I wanted no bean sprouts in my chow mein they called me to ask them to pay more money. I explained I couldn’t eat bean sprouts and they cancelled my order before waiving the extra 80p! The manager was very rude. Won’t be ordering from here Ever again!

Their own website is considerably cheaper than just eat, but doesn’t work so I tried to ring them and order over the phone. I was told it’s too much effort to order over the phone and that I should just use one of the mobile apps.. I challenged the fact it was going to cost a lot more money, but they didn’t care. I was loyal to this business and used them regularly until today, I’ll spend my money at another business who can actually be bothered.

Asked for chicken noodle soup a little spicy, but not too much. Cook said "yeah no probs I will add a little spice". It was so spicy it burned my tongue and throat. For a second I thought there was acid in it. Disgusting.

Been coming for years for spectacular special fried rice historically generous and fresh but tonight it was absolutely disgusting we ordered just after opening at 5 pm all 3 of us were unanimous that it was terrible.Stale glupy and sticky.In my opinion it was left over from last night and reheated.Absolute scandal so will not be returning again.There are lots of very good competitors in the area so will be no hardship for me ,there are 3 decent chineese closer to me and cheaper too.Very disappointed and I feel ripped off.

Gone seriously downhill this takeaway ordered CRISPY chilli beef which was like soggy elastic bands not one bit crispy, I'm really not a fussy eater but this was unedable, will not be returning. Only positive was the lovely Indian girl on the till.

I ordered a pad Thai... I did not receive a pad Thai. Living on pad Thai in Thailand I know what it should taste like, its sweet and has peanuts and rice noodles. I got the wrong noodles and it tasted more like Chinese curry than pad Thai.. no peanuts. Was just really weird.

Been going here for over 10 years and have always found the food okay, sometimes brilliant. However over the couple of years this takeaway has progressively got worse and worse. I understand it's under new management. This is the last straw My Last meal Had my usual meal this week and everything tasted extremely salty and just not nice. Felt horrible after eating, something very wrong here! I have also noticed that they have pushed there prices up a lot and it's beyond greedy! Won't be coming back again! Rang to order food and got a snotty kid on the other end telling me I had to spend moor then 20 pounds if I wonted a delivery when I have ordered from them on a weekly basis before and this was not the case then

My wife and I had used this takeaway for t least 15 years on the initial recommendation of a friend and had always thoroughly enjoyed the food. Unfortunately for some reason the quality and taste of the food has gone downhill considerably and we have given it lots of chances and each time have been disappointed with the lack of taste and incorrect orders. We are now seeking a new takeaway this has been such a shame.

Steadily worsening. We've been coming to Ginger and Spice for almost 20 years and at first had nothing but great things to say. Generally beef rendang has been on our menu choice for a lot of the time. Sadly over the past three or four visits it's gotten worse and worse to the point of today's. Tough as leather and had that pre cooked taste to it. On calling the assistant assured me it was fresh - who knows? But worse than the beef was her reaction and response....there was nothing she could do unless it was returned to the take away in the same condition it left. Well I could bring it back tasting of yesterday's beef and tough as old boots but it's now mixed with chicken chow mein - noodles AND beansprouts, how on earth is that possible. I pointed out that I'm not eating it out of the tin carton but at home off a plate..."well there nothing I can do, you'll have to speak to Alex, who's not here at the moment, but he might be in say 30 mins." (I left it an hour just so I could pick out not yesterday's tough beef from between my teeth) Same person on the phone - I could almost hear her groan..."Alex has literally just left". I would go on about the, "he came in and picked up his coat", "You are absolutely free to write whatever you like in your review...." and "although Alex wasn't here when you last called, he was upstairs in the flat..." Any how, what once was out "go to" for a take away may now become our "avoid at all cost". I have been invited by to email Alex from the email address on the Ginger and Spice website but can't find it...hopefully he will read this and get in touch....in the meantime I'm on the hunt for another tooth pic. PS I should point out that the chicken was fine and raises the 2* to 3*

Our food arrived an hour and a half later.. So kids are very hungry. Ordered at 5pm, arrived at 6.30pm.. The food wasn't the best. Was cold and very oily. The meat cuts are just 3 pieces mostly bamboo shoots. Wouldn't recommend at all. Waste of money

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Food was disgusting and inedible all went in the bin. Prawn crackers were stale, food was soggy and swimming in grease, prawn toast clearly not prawn toast as clearly made with chicken. I phoned up the shop to complain to hear the manager swearing in the background totally unprofessional and will certainly not be ordering from there again

AVOID - Very rude boy serving put down the phone 3 times after feeling concerned about a special curry. Ate said curry and felt ill after eating it. Uncooked chips the rest went in the bin as the prawns tasted off. Asked to speak to a manager was told they don't speak English and he was in bed upstairs. The boy said he was acting manager and I would not get a refund or replacement meal as they wanted me to bring back all the food untouched. Unfortunately most of it went in the bin. The best thing that place can do is close down.

I've not had a bad experience from these guys. One of the few restraunts that acutally manages to find my address, and the delivery is regularly faster than shown.Food is good portions, tasty and a good price. Literally nothing I can complain about.4 stars across the board because It's not the absolute best takeaway I've hadI call up directly instead of using JustEat, had so many issues with JustEat. They owe me about £50 in refunds for missing food that they just don't pay...

Extremely poor service. Over 2hrs to arrive and I was lied to when I rang after and hour an told it was on its way. It obviously wasn’t as it took over another hour to arrive. Sadly I will not use the take away again and wouldn’t recommend you order for delivery

Phoned and Ordered delivery 2nd Jan and was told would be up to an hour. Called back 1.5hrs later to be told it had just left with no apology or explanation. 2hrs15mins later still nothing. Called again to be told it left about 10mins ago but the driver had a few deliveries to make. Again no explanation or apology. I asked if it was still going to be hot and was assured it would be as in a bag. 2hrs30mins later it arrived. The only thing hot was chicken curry. Chips were inedible. Tepid spring rolls. Rice was not cooked properly as crunchy. Batter on chicken was soggy. A complete waste of time and money. Ruined our weekend off evening. Luckily we had gone passed being hungry! I couldn’t be bothered to call them again as the customer service was poor so I couldn’t imagine an apology let alone a refund! Extremely disappointing!

Absolutely awful. Will never use again! Whilst I appreciate its New Year’s Eve, I didn’t expect to have to wait over 3 hours for our order to arrive!! We called 4 times to see what was happening and each time we called the customer service was shocking. When it eventually arrived, part of the order was missing, the duck was so tough I couldn’t shred it and several of the dishes were stone cold. A complete waste of £52 and will never use again. A shame as we’ve been regular customers for many many years :(

Absolutely delicious. We ordered 7 meals today a mixture of special/chicken chow mein, singapore noodles, sweet and sour chicken balls and egg fried rice! Very hot on our plates and all demolished with nothing left. Thank you very much! Highly recommend.

We have been using this chinese for over 15 years as our local- it has always been consistently good- however since they have started doing all the deliveries they have gone right down hill. Seems like food is rushed out the door- the last chicken curry i had was very watery with undercooked chicken and no flavour. We thought it was just a one off but its been happening alot. Sad to say we will not be using ginger and spice anymore. Such a shame as we have loved this Chinese for many years

Used this place tonight what a waste of time and money got home and take away was cold and had to reheat it. When we phoned to complain they didn’t really care they just said next time they would make sure it was hot. Even when we said it was under the counter they were saying they don’t put it under there until we said are you calling us liars they then said it was in a black box under the counter. Will never use the place again what a waste of £34

I have used this takeaway in the past and it was always fine but used tonight for the first time in quite a while. Not sure if they have changed hands but it was really awful. Chips were really dry, curry sauce was ok but not as good as normal, sweet and sour chicken balls had hardly any chicken and just slimy batter and the chicken chow menu was awful with dry chicken and pretty tasteless. Such a shame for somewhere that used to be good.

I realise these days takeaways will offer more than just Chinese food but I am skeptical about it nonetheless. We decided to take a risk and get two orders of pad thai - one special king prawn with mixed meats and one roast duck. The king prawns did NOT taste fresh at all. Apart from only having four prawns in the dish, they possessed an off flavour. Char siu and duck were quite dry too. The only redeeming factor in their pad thai is that it wasn't overly sweet like others I've eaten in Bristol from actual Thai restaurants. They used hor fun noodles oddly too. I don't recommend eating from here and we're not surprised now there wasn't a queue on Friday evening.

Food arrived and the order wasn’t correct, rang the restaurant and they just said “contact Just Eat” when I pointed out it was the restaurant’s fault for not providing the food they just said “oh well, it’s what we tell all customers” Highly disappointed.

Sweet and sour sauce was mostly oil, chicken in orange sauce was barely recognisable as chicken and prawn crackers were stale/soggy. Food arrived cold and the delivery took over an hour and a half to arrive. Will not be ordering from here again. Avoid like the plague.

AVOID THIS PLACE Food ordered on Uber eat, received completely cold (even if we literally live a few minutes away) after 1 hour and half wait. I bought 1/4 a duck for £11 that was dry and The Hoisin sauce was so strong and smelled off I couldn't carry on eating it ! Literally felt sick. The Prawn crackers tasted old... just Ruined our night, nothing was good. I am so disappointed, specially after seeing all these good reviews. Now, we have lost money and our estomacs are empty. Having never had a issue before I struggle to be critical but having ordered the first take away since lockdown the chips were quite obviously last nights and inedible. 75% of what we ordered was in the food recycling bin. Am hoping this is a temp glitch or I won’t be ordering again.

Hadnt eaten here for a few years due to several disappointing meals.Thought would give it another go and wish we had ordered China Town instead.The pancake roll was greasy and seemed to only have beansprouts in it (no meat or prawns).The special satay was nothing like satay with no peanut flavour at all. It was more like a sweet salty gravy.Anyway, won't be trying again.

Don’t often leave reviews but I absolutely loved the food I ordered so felt it was necessary! I’ve been trying out different Chinese take aways recently to find my favourite and came across this one on Uber eats. I ordered chow mein, chicken balls and chips in curry sauce which I normally do, and their chips in curry sauce made this my new favourite! (All of the food was nice, but loved the chips). My 3 year old son even cleared his plate which doesn’t happen often. The delivery man was also very polite too. Will be ordering from here next time

This is the best Chinese takeaway I've tried in North Bristol. I love the sweet and sour chicken balls, the batter is crispy on the outside, soft and doughy on the inside and the chicken is succulent. The pad thai roast pork is excellent!

I have had several poor experiences with other Chinese takeaways in the past but not with Ginger and spice. I normally have the chicken curry which has a little spice to it and I cant get the same flavour anywhere else. the Thai noodles have a nice kick to them and my partner agrees that the food is good. Its worth jumping in the car and driving to get food from here. cheers guys for the consistent quality!
