A lovely Italian restaurant overlooking a lake with swans and boats. Appears to be very popular, and the food did not disappoint. Staff are fantastic providing excellent service with a smile! Carpark is available onsite, but remember to register when placing your order.

I went with a group of Badminton club friends a d ordered a Fillet steak, which was nice apart for a piece of hard plastic which I bit into. I advised the waitress lady who just said how unusual it was and took it to the chef who suggested it was a piece of a plastic box. The waitress didn't even apologise until I was leaving when I told her that an apology would be appropriate!

Our favourite restaurant. The food is always good, freshly cooked and delicious. This is not a chain restaurant where everything is preprepared and reheated. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Their ‘best restaurant’ award is very well deserved. Thank you Vince and everyone at Terranova.

The food was absolutely delicious. i had the calamari starter with a lamb cutlet main, and my wife had the minestrone soup starter and the bolognese, very friendly staff, and good service. We visited for a birthday party, and the owners were very accommodating. There was some confusion when it came to splitting the bills, but overall, we would recommend visiting the restaurant for some really good food.

Went for my daughter’s birthday. 25 of us and we had great tasting food, with excellent service. The food for every one of us came out at the same time and so so delicious. Thank you to the staff and Mr Terranova for hosting us. Will definitely be back. 👏👏👏

Gem of a restaurant. Proper Italian food with great service and ambient. Will happily drive 15mins to eat here as nothing comes close to this in St Albans. The scallopa milanese is a favourite!

Four of us eat dinner on a Tuesday evening. The service was warm, friendly and efficient. The food was very good. I had prawns followed by liver and finished with apple pie. All the food was very tasty. Good value for money in bright pleasant surroundings with on site parking.

Just came back from there. Been before and food bern b good. This time was not. I ate some seafood salad. Was so vinagree and oily. Do have back to waiter saying could not eat explained why. . Said did not want anything else as had done of husbands and grandkids pizza Yet no apologises and still got charged. Disgraceful.

We held a 70th birthday lunch at Terranova in May taking over the whole restaurant. We chose Terranova as we have dined there for over 20 years and always enjoyed our meals. On this special occasion Vince and his team did us proud with absolutely delicious food in a really great atmosphere and fantastic service. Brilliant day. Thank you.

This is a really nice Italian restaurant overlooking the lake. We went there with grandparents and children and had a very nice experience. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly. We had various types of dishes between us and were nicely presented and very tasty.

The best restaurant in Welwyn Garden City, full stop. The food is fresh and delicious and all the staff go out of their way to provide professional yet really amicable, warm service each time. We love the atmosphere at the restaurant. We just came back jetlagged, from 2 weeks of wonderful food in San Francisco and were craving fresh authentic Italian food. We were 3 adults and 2 children, the children wear treated like valued customers and were asked their opinions and tastes as were the adults. The eldest said he felt like he was eating out on holiday as everyone was so nice and the food was so tasty! We will definitely be returning and can't wait to visit in the summer and have the view of the lake. From the gorgeous fresh bread and butter to start, the prawn main was exceptional and so was the affogato! We wished we had more room to fit more in at the end!!

Lovely family run establishment with great food and reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere and view overlooking the south lake.

Welcomed by the Italian gentleman, very pleasant. Had good expectations. Food was mediocre, not much flavour. Service was not the best, felt food was just plonked down in a hurry, no smiles or check to see ok. Colleague returned her dessert which was watery and falling apart, and had to chase coffee as forgotten. The place was full and many seemed to be regulars, but not somewhere I would personally choose to visit again.

Second time we have visited this restaurant in recent months and we were not disappointed. From the moment you walk in the door you have a welcome feeling and warm atmosphere. Then comes the food which is really good again we cannot fault it! Would definitely recommend for an evening meal at a local friendly restaurant.

We went to the restaurant for a celebration. There was 34 of us all having different things. They were wonderful and the food was gorgeous. The view was also wonderful. Thoroughly recommend.

Ordered a pizza and calzone tonight for takeaway. Very mediocre, especially the Calzone which was very sparse on filling, stodgy and underbaked. Had been looking forward to trying for a while but probably won't again

Lovely restaurant with fantastic food amd very friendly people working there. The wine went down very well and they even brought out a cake for my mum's birthday. The views across the lake are lovely and serene. If you're using the restaurant, you can park for free in the pay and display parking bays by the restaurant - just remember to give your car registration number to the restaurant staff and they will pop it into their computer for you. Would highly recommend coming here.

Last night we had yet another delicious meal at the Terranova restaurant. It’s such a fantastic venue looking over the lake and watching the wildlife and the beautiful water. The fact that the food is so delicious is an unbelievable bonus and after many years the high standard of the restaurant is still up there! My wife and I both started with garlic and chilli prawns which were delicious. I followed with a really good peppered steak and zucchini spinach and potatoes and my wife had veal escalope - the Teranova is the only restaurant she will eat this in as nowhere else has ever compared! This is an authentic Italian restaurant presented in a modern immaculate way that I highly recommend. Finally a great selection of wines and draft beer completes the picture. Highly Recommended!!

Staff were attentive and friendly. But the food was nothing special, possibly below average and not worth the price. On the plus side the house wine was good and reasonably priced.

My partner and I visited here on Saturday, I can say the service is outstanding, I had the prawn cocktail to start which was very average but my partner had the prawns in garlic which were amazing, Both our main courses were good but if we visited that area again I believe we would of gone with the pasta. The complimentary bread was really nice and the house white wine was also good. Well done to all the staff and wish you all the best in the futurexx

We had not been to the Terranova for 6 years as we were so disappointed the last time we came but I'm pleased to say things have changed for the better. We were able to sit in comfort and enjoy a very pleasant evening - the owner is very welcoming. All the food was good. We'll be back!

The food is exceptional and the team were all so friendly and have a great family-owned atmosphere. The restaurant is tucked away and I had no idea it was there in the first place!

A lovely location and very pleasant staff are the reasons for visiting this very average restaurant. My wife had the chicken cacciatore which she said was very good but my Pollo Milanese was very small and quite tasteless. Seems to really cater to customers who get pizza to go and then sit be the lake to eat. Would I return? Unlikely.

What a gem to find! This is the first time we have been to the restaurant and were originally planning to have just beer and pizza, but after seeing the menu we decided to stay for a full meal. We had the veal with cream and mushroom, and the calves liver with sage and butter- both of which were excellent; followed by delicious homemade tiramisu for dessert. In addition to the great food, the staff were lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend.

We decided to give this place a go after not been here for years. They did not give us complimentary bread and butter like all the other tables, waited a very long time between courses. Both starters were from the freezer and the same for my veal main which had an awful out of date taste. Potatoes and veg served with main was sparse and barely served the pair of us. I will not go back again. Overpriced for sure.

Ok so we are inthe middle of this virus nonsense but we thought it would be nice to go out for once. It was a miserable rainy night, but unfortunately the miserable atmosphere continued inside! My wife and I got the distinct impression that they would rather we weren’t there, which for one of our regular haunts before lockdown was a real shame. The service was miserable,the food was average, and the atmosphere was awful.Our booking was at 6pm and we were back at home at 7.15 so that tells you everything!I know it’s different times but really they could make us feel a little bit welcome!

The restaurant is close to Stanborough Park - a bit confusing to get there. The food was good, although slightly expensive. The pizza were good and the starter was good. They had a good house wine too. When we went to the restaurant, we wanted a table overlooking the water but they said that it was reserved. We were there the entire evening and nobody sat on that table - a bit disappointed about this. They gave us a complimentary small cocktail to finish off the night which was good. Good Italian restaurant. Only gripe is the waiters did not wear a face mask whilst serving and came a bit close - no social distancing. But very friendly.

This is my third time here for lunch. A tucked away gem for a proper Italian home cooked meal. I live in Somerset but worth the drive to meet old Hertfordshire friends here and eat together. As you sit and enjoy the delicious food (the homemade ravioli with crab and lobster was second to none), the view of the lakes and the wildlife completes the ambience. It is hidden away from the road rather so make sure you know where to come off and park! Do go!

We have been lunching here for several years and have never had a bad meal, we always enjoy going and go as often as we can. Have taken friends, family and grand children they love it too.

Excellent meal for the two of us. Previously been a few times to Terranova (a few years back) and was disappointed with the service (too fast or too rude, or both) but they’ve got that sorted now. A relaxed evening out with delicious food - we will be back very soon.

The restaurant is situated on the north bank of the southern of the two Stanborough lakes. This gives an extremely pleasant outlook particularly in the evening as the sun is setting.I first visited Terranova as part of a large birthday group five or six years ago. Although the service and food were good the experience was spoilt somewhat as when ordering some food intolerances were mentioned but had been forgotten when the food arrived. This resulted in some people eating out of sync. I thought I left a 3* review at the time but cannot find it.A few years later I came with my girlfriend and we had an excellent meal with no issues. Since then I/we have visited a number of times. The most recent was for lunch. The idea was to just have a pasta dish and a glass of wine but it was so enjoyable we stayed a little longer to have dessert and coffee. There was only one slight glitch – the requested jug of water came with ice that disappeared in front of our eyes as obviously the tap had not been run cold. Adding a 12.5% service charge is irritating – I prefer to make my own decision on tips!

Been going to this restaurant since it opened (maybe 20 years ago?!). Menu is reassuringly familiar with lots of choices. Friendly but authentic staff. A reliable favourite place for us.

A one month visit to Charm School would not go amiss judging by the all male staff the night we visited - make that two for the rudest chap. You are hustled for orders for drinks and then meals, and when these come the dish is barked out and plonked in front of you by grossly impatient and unsmiling waiters. Worse was to come when half way through the meal we asked for water (something restaurants are obliged to provide). A carafe and one wine glass was produced (we were six) and then after further requests another two glasses. When I asked the waiter just for us enough glasses and water for six, he chose to start an argument before shrugging, arms extended, and walking off. If the food had been great we might have considered this an amusing characteristic of the restaurant - some waiters develop a grumpy persona for effect, and some customers find this interesting. It was very much standard fare, however. Not surprisingly the service charge was included - I wish I had asked for it to be removed so my addition could properly have reflected the level of service we received. We were also not approached at any point to ask how satisfied we were, again perhaps understandably. In my other reviews I have usually bent over backwards to be generous. Does not seem to make sense to make a tough trade even tougher by alienating people spending large sums of money. Take a look at yourselves chaps, be courteous and respectful, be patient and smile, and don't argue with the customers.

First and last time! I don't know how anyone can rate this place as good! The food is not cooked from fresh! Everything is clearly from frozen and you're better off spending your money elsewhere. The place was mainly full of elderly (nothing derogatory about this) and the service appalling!Not once did the waiters ask if our food was ok or if we needed anything. The waiters were reaching over us and almost took a few eyes out in the process.Great place if you have low standards of service and food.The best thing about this restaurant is the views, the beer and the wine.

I’ve visited many Italian restaurant and this has to be the worst! Service....well there was none. Menu needs up dating. Food over cooked and most of it deep fried! Clearly all from the freezer! Avoid

My colleague was using the lake for outdoor swimming practice and we noticed this restaurant hidden there. Thought we would give it a go and were well pleased we did. the welcome is warm and heartfelt, the menu is not too long and we soon found something to both enjoy. we ere warned the olive option was. to a small potion so only ordered the one, good call there by the waiter :)

We visit the Terranova a few times each year as we live locally. I last reviewed it in 2012 when I said a menu refresh was overdue. It still is!!!

Went for a Valentine's lunch,disturbed by waiter arguing with customer over the fact she wanted to sit by the window, he said it was set for that evening, at .2.00 clock in the afternoon this was a petty How long does it take to reset 2 place settings?

Have been going to terranova for the last 5 years since moving near by. Food always amazing, traditional Italian cuisine, good wine, amazing friendly service and never dosspaonted. Great family ran restaurant, highly recommend to anyone in the area looking for food! 👌🏽

Just to thank you and all the team for making my birthday dinner special once again. I took 19 diners all with different tastes to Terranova and we were greeted with warmth and hospitality, great food and a lovely setting.

We brought a friend along for lunch having been pleased with the Restaurant on previous occasions. The food we ordered was varied, and was of very good quality and reasonably priced . As usual we were warmly welcomed by the proprietor and the waiter service was OK

We had a table of 6, and the food was just ok, and the service was not good at all, very blunt and at times rude.

I haven't eaten at this restaurant for some 12 years as I moved out of the area but delighted to report that this lovely eatery is still producing tasty food with good service. Great atmosphere and I would certainly recommend you give this place a try as you won't be disappointed.

I came here for the first time with my 9yr old daughter for our first daddy date. The food is lovely and we enjoyed everything we ordered. Calamari for starters whilst my daughter had a lasagna and I had a fillet steak. I made a mistake with my fillet steak and got it well done but that was my request so not the restaurants fault. For desert my daughter had the mint ice cream which was covered in a chocolate shell and had chocolate in the middle of the ice cream, I had the Creme Brulee which was absolutely delicious!

Booked for 13 people to celebrate my wife's special birthday. Nothing was too much trouble, delicious food with very efficient service. The restaurant was very busy which added to the atmosphere, so all in all, a lovely evening for an important occasion.

Regular visit with friend's As usual excellent Italian selection of meals and wine. Seating and ambiance excellent and service is second to none. Prices are very good and would definitely recommend you book in advance for Friday's and Saturday evenings

Awful, just awful. One waiter was very friendly, but not very efficient. We sat for a good 15mins without even a drinks order being taken. And there were only two other tables occupied. The other waiter was extremely rude. The food was horrible. Even my pasta mad toddler refused his meal. Enjoyed the ice cream from the cafe next door much more. Don’t waste your money or your tastebuds here.

Dined here for our wedding anniversary. Lovely cosy environment, great initiative to put bottle of wine on the table as to promote specials. Was a great choice! Food was well presented and cooked to specification.

I visited Terranova recently with a group of friends. The menu ichoice is ok, typical ‘run of the mill’ selection for Italian (but no pizza on the menu).

Went here for an anniversary dinner with my wife and was really pleasantly surprised. We had to go somewhere local and didn't expect this place to be better than average. It was actually really delightful. The staff were attentive, polite and helpful while the food was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend. Also reasonably priced.

The service was friendly and efficient. There was plenty of choice on the menu and the dishes were not overpriced. I opted for the Calamari for starter and Lasagne for main. The Calamari was nice but I was expecting more from the Lasagne. Too many pasta sheets, which made it quite doughy and hardly any meat or cheese filling. The bottles of wine were reasonably priced. I would return but would not go out of my way to do so.

We had our 30 wedding anniversary celebration at Terranova’s yesterday. On arriving we noticed how beautifully our table had been arranged. Enzo and the staff could not have been more friendly and welcoming. We all had the three course set menu and the food and wine was delicious – great selection. The restaurant looks lovely and has a delightful Italian atmosphere. My family and friends were made to feel special and everyone felt relaxed and did not want to leave. A big thank you for making our special day perfect - will be back for more!

We visited on a Thursday evening for a birthday celebration as this a particular favourite of my dad's. We had really lovely fish dishes, wine and puddings. The service and atmousphere was good too. Would definitely return soon

The Terranova has been here for many years and we always find it consistantly good. It is a bit difficult to find due to the complicated entry into Stanborough lakes. May be that is why it is sometimes quiet but the good thing is you can nearly always get a table at short notice, The service is very friendly and efficient. The food is traditional italian and the veal and calves liver are top quality. The mains include veg so with a good value excellent house wine your bill will be reasonable by todays standards.
