Tea Amo Cafe in Uttlesford

This is now called Monty's as has recently changed hands and the food is appalling now! Previously had good experience with previous owners and that was why we chose to go here. Ordered a BLT and when I had taken a few bites of the sandwich I discovered that half of it never had bacon in it! What bacon was in it was cold and not at all good. Came with 8 crisps and the tiniest bit of salad garnish. My friends tuna melt sandwich was unappetising, with barely any cheese melted in the sandwich. We had two iced coffees and with two sandwiches out bill total was over £27!!! The lady next to us sent back her sandwich as it had barely any filling covering the panini and even after that she returned it and left without food as it looked about the same. Will not return here as its seems that a simple making a decent sandwich is beyond them and prices a complete rip off!!

Been here previously and enjoyed it but sadly not the case this time. Both had a breakfast. All tasted and looked very cheap. The sausage was the only bit that was actually half decent. Service was slow and not very attentive. Could hear staff saying they were short staffed, however that doesn't change that the food itself wasn't nice. Particularly strong coffee, too strong for me. Won't be visiting again.

Luke-warm milky weak coffee Scrambled egg was tasteless and overcooked on cold toast saturated with butter. A side salad drowned in balsamic vinegar served with it at 9am in the morning?? No thanks. Would have sent it back if we weren’t in such a rush, but it took over 30 minutes to arrive so no time. I barely ate. We were told this was the first day open after the business had been taken over. But don’t open if you’re not ready for your customers! We could hear who was presumably the owner ordering the waitresses to go out and buy ingredients for our breakfast. The only star is for the waitresses who were out of their depth and needed some training on how to use their new systems. Will never return. Good luck to the new owners if this is how they plan to run their business.

We sat outside Team Amo on a lovely sunny day (yes, we get them occasionally). Staff are friendly, the foccacia toastie I had, and the scrambled egg on sourdough my wife had were exceptional, topped off with one of the best (and hot) cappuccinos we have ever had, in nice size cups too. They had lovely looking homemade cakes, but we didn't indulge, perhaps next time.

With only 45 minutes notice the team at Tea Amo prepared five afternoon teas to take away. Five choices of sandwiches five choices of cakes all delicious. Thank you

We've been here so many times but have never thought to write a review. The coffee and cakes are excellent, and the selection of teas is extensive. The service is good. It's our go-to for saffron walden. Would 100% recommend.

I have visited twice recently for lunch and I'm really impressed. Cute little teacups and saucers, food is freshly made and there's plenty of it. Staff are really warm without being in your face, so it's a lovely place to relax with a pot of tea and watch the people go by

Visited Saffron Walden once again yesterday and have always walked past Tea amo because it’s always packed, but this time there was a free table. So glad we went in, great food good coffee and great tea choices. A little expensive but don’t let this put you off, I’ve never seen so much bacon in a sandwich compliments to the chef. We know where will go next time we visit.

Stopped for a drink and a cake. Really well taken care of by the staff. The food and drinks were really good and came quickly. The staff couldn’t do enough to help people. One table had a bit of an accident and the way it was dealt with was amazing.

I met a couple here for a business meeting. The staff were extremely helpful and the food and drinks were great. The cheese scones were delicious and the avocado on toast really enjoyable. Would love to return and try lunch or cakes.

Came here yesterday for afternoon tea. I knew the price would be £18 per person so I assumed we would get a generous amount of food for that. How disappointed I was. We received 1 sandwich 1 cake and 1 Scone each. Just felt really disappointed. It also took ages for the food to arrive even though they just had to make the sandwiches up. Will not be returning

Lovely welcoming staff. The sandwiches were so delicious. The bread was lovely thick-cut, chunky slices yet so light and fresh. The egg mayonnaise was lovely on the brown bread with the side salad and crisps. The cakes looked very appetising too but full from the sandwiches so didn’t make it that far! Perfect for a catch up with family/ friends.

The restaurant is fairly small but lovely and the food is good and the kids love it. You can sit outside also which is a bonus

I had time to kill in Saffron Walden and spontaneously visited Tea Amo. In brief a loverly clean independent company. Unique decor and staff that had a text book focus on customer service. A wide variety on the menu. I went for smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast. It is my go to choice. Well the quantity and quality is in my opinion unmatched anywhere. I am still questioning whether I was given a double sized portion for the price of one…. I’m sure I wasn’t. Great venue. Great value for money. Whilst some companies may get friends to put on positive reviews and their competitors put on negative ones - the data for Tea Amo can not be ignored. Recommended.

We were lucky to get a table as we arrived at lunchtime. Ordered sandwiches and cups of teas - English breakfast and Indian Assam varieties, all loose leaf teas in tea pots with filters. All had sandwiches which were huge, with a side salad and crisps. Staff were efficient and polite and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Vast menu and caters for vegetarians.

We came to wedding in Saffron Walden and booked this Tea Amo on line as it was raining we had seat inside. The afternoon tea was very nice the egg sandwiches were on nice fresh bread and tasted lovely . Bacon butty was also very good service was all it needed to be. Saffront Walden very nice town lots of small shops and market. Tea Amo was a good choice for usale.

My son and I arrived shortly before 1pm and ordered sandwiches and tea but were told the kitchen was closed which seemed rather early for lunchtime. We ordered cakes to accompany the tea which when my son attempted to pour it it overflowed through the lid and spread over the table and on to his jeans. This was because the tea had been made in a pot only suitable for teabags and the coarse leaf tea had blocked the spout and caused the pot to overflow as it had no grill or filter inside to prevent the leaves entering the spout. We noticed peaple who came later than us seemed to be able to order sandwiches. I complained about the teapot and we were givin another pot. The cakes were unmemorable and the experience disappointing and at £12.60 not worth the price. It was a pity as we like Saffron Walden which we have visited several times. I think a little staff training is needed to show staff how to make make a propper pot of tea using leaf tea.

We used to love our lunches in Cafe Coucou whenever we visited Saffron Walden; unfortunately it’s not doggie friendly, so we can no longer visit with our newly adopted furry friend. The sun was shining, and we spotted a nice table outside Tea Amo which allowed us to dine with our impeccably behaved pooch and people watch at the same time. We were offered water and biscuits for our little friend under the table, which we really appreciated, and we opted to share a sandwich and a cream tea between us. The loose leaf tea, served in generous mismatching china teapots, was a refreshing change; the sandwich was very generously filled, the bread absolutely delicious. (We wondered if it was from the popular bakers round the corner.) We think they’d actually forgotten our food order but they were most apologetic and offered us extra drinks which we didn’t need. We were cheeky enough to order extra cream for the scones which we just loved. They even adjusted our bill to make up for it; very kind in the circumstances. But we’ll return, again and again, all three of us, and will wholeheartedly recommend to others. Thank you for a lovely lazy lunch in the sun, not to mention the much needed normality in these unusual times.

I was excited to be visiting my favourite tea/coffee shop after experiencing a long lockdown due to the Covid epidemic.My visit didn't disappoint.Everything is in place to make customers feel safe.Lesley ,the owner,has put a great deal of effort and hard work to make this happen.Track and trace facility all in place,table hand sanitiser readily available and good social distancing measures.This tea shop is simply the best and the food is delicious.I had a delicious ham sandwich and an amazing cappuccino All the staff are friendly and helpful.The menu is varied and caters for all tastes.You won't find better so make sure you pay a visit - you will not be disappointed.This place is a real gem.The town is fortunate to have such a marvelous tea shop run by such a hard working team.Thank you team ' Tea Amo.'

We visited for afternoon tea for a birthday treat, and I have to say it was the nicest afternoon tea I've had anywhere. I liked being able to pick the sandwiches and cakes we had with it, something I've not seen elsewhere. The staff were very friendly as well and you can tell they enjoy working there. I would definitely go back again, and definitely recommend to friends and family.

What a gem of a place! Ordered afternoon tea for my mum's birthday,Deeeeelicious!! Best scones for miles and so beautifully presented on the cake tier, which we paid a tiny deposit for and got to bring back when it was convenient.Not only was it gorgeous tasting (homemade everything!) well priced and presented so nicely. The wonderful owner came in on the day they were closed to make this for us. My two little girls loved their own mini cake stands and specially made kids afternoon teas so much!Thank you and can't wait to taste more of you delights Vicki xx

My wife and I were treated to the most amazing teas, lunch and cream scones and a surprise from everyone at this venue. We popped down without notice and one out way asked if they can keep an outside table for us. They went and beyond our expectation which made our 35th that much more special.. Go visit and enjoy.

Having enquired on Wednesday if this little gem of a tea room was offering a takeaway afternoon tea during the current situation I was rewarded with great food amazing service and fantastic value All boxed nicely and even provided me with cutlery as I had said I was eating as a picnic Having never been here before I will definitely return when the shop is open to sample an afternoon tea in style

First visit with my husband and son in law to Saffron Walden and found this little gem. Ordered three cream teas. One gluten free tea as I am a coeliac. Tea served in beautiful vintage teapots, cups & saucers. Nicest tea I’ve tasted in a long time Food was delicious. Cafe immaculate. Staff very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely visit again on next trip from Hull

Wonderful decor, great service and delicious food. Generous portions too.We took our granddaughter and her water was served in a mini teapot with a little cup and saucer, what a lovely touch! Staff are so helpful and friendly. Top marks for this delightful cafe/tea room.

This is a great little tea shop. The food is always delicious. The freshly prepared ham sandwiches are a favourite and if you give them five minutes they will put in a box to take away. The cakes are always fresh and very tasty. The staff are always very friendly

I stopped here for a cream tea with friends and we sat outside as inside is quite small. Blankets and hot water bottles were provided on the tables as it was a little chilly - such a lovely thought!Inside was quirky with lots of trinkets and signs and many things to look at. The tea (served in a pillar box teapot!) was delicious and the scones were so fresh and light!The staff were very welcoming and kind and the whole place had a relaxed and warm atmosphere.A gorgeous little place that I will be returning to the next time I am in the area.

I enjoyed every minute spent in Tea Amo! I felt so welcome there. Even when I stayed a little bit over the closing time, I was treated with kindness and smile. And the cream tea was absolute heaven. I definitely look forward to come back again!

Popped in on a cold day to warm up and for a hot drink. It is only small inside (did not fancy sitting outside in December) but everyone's perfect idea of an English Tea Room. Tea was served with leaf tea (so rare now) and the toasted tea cakes were smashing. Thoroughly recommend.

Booked a table with ease for me and the kids. They had the afternoon tea-ny which they loved. I went for soup of the day (home-made and delicious) and half a sandwich (generous doorstop of yummy bread!) The staff are s lovely and welcoming, couldn't do enough for us and checked in more than once to make sure we were happy. We went on 31st Oct and they had some lovely seasonal touches.

Popped in for lunch. Chicken, bacon & avocado salad for me, tuna melt sandwiches for her. Generous helping on the salad, especially the bacon.. all fresh ingredients and served with the most delicious brown bread. Their own special cappuccino came in a home style mug with whipped cream and coffee beans on top - AND it stayed hot right to the last sip. Friendly staff, clean everywhere - this little place well deserves its high ranking.

Great choices for lunch. You know when a menu is good when you are unable to make up your mind what to order! Recommend the avocado and prawn sandwich - scrummy. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Visited for a light lunch. Nice, varied menu choices and specials board. Tiny little cafe, beautifully quaint decor, florals, light bright paintwork, shabby chic. Lovely ambience. Had the sausage sandwich which was huge and flavoursome, with very fresh salad and crisps, followed by chocolate torte. Very indulgent. Huge choice of delightful cakes all presented beautifully. Loose tea served in a lovely pot with a tea strainer. Nice touch. Staff were all very helpful and polite.This petite cafe was a lovely find.

My nieces loves this cafe, we've been coming here since she was 3, she's now nearly 8. They provide the little ones with their own cup and saucer it's so cute.

The cafe is very nicely decorated with different tea sets, charming, giving a cosy feel. All the cups and sauces used in the cafe are of different design, making it very interesting. The ladies in the shop are very nice and helpful, offering advice on the portion of food and will add more water to the tea pot if required. The bread used for the sandwiches are thickly sliced, and the sandwich come with generous portion of crisps and salad. All and all, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch in the cafe and will definitely recommend the cafe to anyone.

Lovely little tearoom where none of the crockery matches! Lovely home made cakes and pastries and proper leaf tea complete with strainer! Staff very friendly and helpful.

Warm, welcoming staff to help you through a well-considered choice of teas and coffees. The scones came with an unexpected garnish of fresh fruit that was delight. The décor is bright and uplifting and in keeping with the menu. The children's menu was charming and the use of real china cups and saucers, for child and adult alike, proved a hit. The sandwich plates are generously sized with lots of fresh salad.

We had lunch here, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The bread that came with my salad was particularly delicious. The staff were lovely, and were very helpful when we wanted to move to a table indoors (we initially sat outside). The cakes were fabulous, the best I've tasted in a long time. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices too, and felt it was good value for money.

Went to tea amo after son gave us a voucher so thought we would go for wedding anniversary. After booking in last thing got a table for same day. Received there with the best service a beautiful afternoon tea , Sandwiches,scone and cake were fresh and tasty. The staff were busy but still had time to ask how we were and provided a friendly service though out time there. Well worth the journey from Cambridge would recommend anybody to try it. We were given an Activity Superstore voucher for Afternoon Tea so chose Tea Amo based on the great reviews and what a great find it is. You can choose your sandwich, drink and cake and you also get a freshly made, still warm scone (either fruit or plain) with jam and cream. Everything was delicious but I think my favourite was the sandwich which was the freshest, thickest white bread stuffed full of perfect egg mayo. Making the sandwiches fresh to order is brilliant because you’re not left with flavours you don’t like and if you prefer your sandwich plain with no pickle/mustard you can have just that. The slices of cake were enormous and delicious and my daughter was full so had to take hers home. It was neatly boxed up for her by one of the lovely young waitresses.

Lovely little piece of tradition. Had an afternoon tea and everything about it was amazing!! Booked through a third party, we were told our reservation was at 12 when it was actually at 230. This wasn't a problem to the lovely owner as she made it possible for us at 12. Lovely group of ladies working there and the Owner was welcoming and pleasant. The food was so tasty and fresh with portion sizes being very generous. I would highly recommend an visit and i will certainly be back again and again. Thank you ladies

Ποτέ δεν περιμένεις να βρεθείς ξαφνικά να λύσεις το πρόβλημα της πείνας σε κάποιο παράδρομο, που βρέθηκες τυχαία και σε τράβηξε από τη γραφικότητά του ένα μικρό κουκλίστικο μαγαζί, που τελικά δεν μπορείς να το χαρακτηρίσεις σαν εστιατόριο, καφε-μπαρ ή ζαχαροπλαστείο, γιατί όλα αυτά χωράνε μέσα στο tea-amo. Όσοι πελάτες υπήρχαν μέσα, είχαν σερβιριστεί απ' όλα αυτά και βρέθηκε κι ένα τραπέζι ήδη έτοιμο για μας τους τέσσερις, λίγο στριμωχτά βέβαια, αλλά χαλάλι! Και καλά φάγαμε, κι ας ήταν μόνον ένας νεαρός μάγειρας, στριμωγμένος στο πατάρι, όπου ήταν και η μοναδική τουαλέτα, και που για να ανέβεις (μόνο αν δεν είσαι ΑΜΕΑ) έπρεπε να κάνεις 'σλαλομ' ανάμεσα από τα πιάτα αραδιασμένα στα σκαλιά πριν καταφέρουν η ιδιοκτήτρια και μια κοπελίτσα να τα πλύνουν αργότερα. Τόσο άβολα αλλά τόσο ζεστά από την προθυμία. τη καθαριότητα και το ιδιαίτερο χαμόγελο της αφεντικίνας, που θυμίζει περισσότερο Ιταλιάνα παρά Αγγλίδα, και σε κάνει να ξεχνάς τα όποια μειονεκτήματα, όπως έκαναν όλοι οι πελάτες, που φαίνονταν συχνοί και καθώς-πρέπει. Καθόλου τουριστικό και - σύμφωνα με τις πληροφορίες - πάντα καθημερινά γεμάτο, ασχέτως εποχής και όχι αδικαιολόγητα!

Fantastic experience here especially for children with petite tea cups and tea pots,etc. Good lunches and tea. Club sandwiches are usually excellent although last time min a bit burnt, but definitely best place in Walden for club sandwich. Helpful girls. Nice selection of teas.

We popped in for tea and cakes and were delighted by the whole demeanour of the place. Everything we drank and ate was delicious and we will be returning.

A business that the owner should be proud of. Great service, lovely coffee and fantastic food. It's refreshing to see something thriving by mastering the basics rather than getting too large and complicated trying to please everyone! Will be bringing family for lunch next time.

The sweetest, most homely, welcoming coffee and tea shop in town! Unique, individualised, relaxed, with great cakes and eccentric flowery cups and saucers. If you want to roll back from tax avoiding, global, neo-liberal, corporate coffee chains, this is the experience you are looking for!

A great find on trip advisor. Could have done costa etc but wanted an independent tea room in quintessential English market town & totally scored! Friendly staff, lovely owner, bacon doorstep buttie & tea with a strainer in china cups. Slightly pricey but I think things may be in this area.

Went with family for some tea and sandwiches (and cake!). The new management was very hands on and welcoming to everyone it was lovely! The place had a cozy vibe that you could sit in for hours. The food was fantastic leaving the family very pleased, also all the staff was very kind to us also with quick serving to catering to our needs. We love the place and definitely would go again based on our last delightful visit. 20/10

I recently visited this beautiful tea shop which is under new ownership.I was fortunate to meet Lesley the new owner of this delightful small tea shop .The tea and crumpets were delicious and the menu is interesting and tempting.Tea was served in bone china cups (,which you can purchase if you wish,)

My daughter and I had lunch at Tea Amo last week and were both equally impressed by the quality of their food and the friendliness of the owner and her staff. The charming atmosphere coupled with the quaint environment has ensured that we will definitely be going back for more of the same!

Came here for afternoon tea with girl friends. A small cosy jewel with friendly staff in Cross Street Saffron Walden.

A friend and I were cycling out from London and back and stopped here for an early lunch of sausage sandwich and a coffee - so much choice but glad we stopped here! Fantastic service from a range of excellent people. We only had time for a quick stop, sadly, and both went for the sausage sandwich - fantastic local sausages and beautiful hand-cut bread that was exceptional. Fabulous coffee too! A flying visit but would definitely come back as the other food looked great - especially the cake!

Cafe was not busy but we had to wait too long to be served soup, although the staff were pleasant. Soup was good served with delicious bread, and wished we hadn't then ordered cake - bought in and over-sweet. Then we were treated to the very noisy clearing up in the servery area and staff converstions. Too expensive.

We booked a afternoon tea at Tea Amo, with a voucher supplied by Activity Superstore , and given to us as a gift.

Had a lovely time here with my mum for afternoon tea. The shop was very busy but staff were on top of orders, however, the young girls working here didn't seem to know what was going on and had to keep asking the manager lots of questions. The afternoon tea itself was really nice. The sandwiches are made to order of your choice and you can also mix and match which scones you have (they were massive). You get a nice big slice of cake but mine was too rich and I couldn't finish it. We had been given a voucher and I'm glad we used it here. One annoyance though, neither of us liked tea so asked if we could swap for hot chocolates and we would pay the difference, we were then charged full price for them both even though we didn't have a pot of tea with our food. Would probably go back if we were in the area.

Shame - appeared to be run by school children with no management direction. Menu food completely over priced and took far to long to arrive. We were there for an hour for what we thought we be a quick bite to eat. If you must visit perhaps just stick to the tea and cake, the cake did look impressive. I’m sure the staff were willing just a shame the owners let them down. So much else to choose from in Saffron Walden.

There's something about the staff we love, always happy, helpful and keen to give people what they want. The food is delicious and very good value. There are so many places to choose from in Saffron Walden but we choose this one every time!

Quirky little tea shop with outside eating area. Delicious sandwiches, home made cakes and tea in a teapot! Very friendly staff. Would thoroughly recommend.

Small tea room cafe in the centre of Saffron Walden, excellent food, bread to die for, lovely tea in beautiful china and great cakes. ll round very good, if only they were all like this!

Love that as we had our delicious cream tea our four year old could serve me with the provided toy tea and toast. He loved it!

We accidentally came across this delightful place on the lookout for a quick breakfast, what a find. A beautiful spot outside in the sun and great service. We had poached eggs on avocado on sourdough, with a pot of tea. Very good too, maybe a little pricey but worth it. The cakes looked wonderful. Dog friendly too.
