Absolute mass produced factory made rubbish. The cafe is as you expect, food tastes good, full of additives, the butchers, is appalling & please never go there. Utter rubbish, they had a butchers counter in the cafe so I bought sausage bacon, hunters chicken & some rib eye steak, some of it must have been out of date, it stunk,

My first visit and last to this cafe. It made a school dining room look like a 5-star restaurant. It’s very rough with no frills. Self-service and the food, which had been standing on the hot plate for a long period of time, was only tepid. Choice was very limited. I would neither recommend it nor re-visit myself.

Been into cafe today for lunch . Normally everything is fine. However today I was not impressed with a gentleman behind the counter in white overalls covered in red blood. He obviously works next door in the factory . He was checking the food out and stirring it then proceeded to get some food and sit in cafe eating it . This is NOT good look in the cafe and has put me off to be fair . Cross infection mmmm A BIG NO TO THIS

Returned to Darlington after 53 years and discovered that Taylor's shop was still in Skinnergate and the food just as amazing. Plenty of fine butcher's and pork pies around the Leeds area where I live but nothing like the wonderful Ham and Egg pie which I bought at the butchers and ate for breakfast. Still warm from baking but only one left so super popular. Wish I could return there every morning!

Recently, my aged mum had bought quite a few items from ‘Taylors’ and was struggling to carry them all. An employee driver (which she later guessed to be a son of ‘H Taylor and sons’) went out of his way to ensure my mum was okay. Not wanting to go into too much detail, his chivalrous act was a fine example of someone going out of their way to help others. My mum was so grateful, as his her family. Thank you Sir, you are indeed a gentleman.

This cafe is so unpredictable from portion size to price to customer service! Had a jacket potato one day and was charged £3.20 to take it out....following week sane scenario yet charged £4.20 which in my opinion is extortionate!!! I would NEVER eat chips from here they are the worst ice ever had thick with grease and hard in the middle. Cafe does get busy due to its location...however I think a full review of take out prices is absolutely needed. One other massively important thing to review - if you are grabbing a sarni drink etc to take out you have to wait in the que for people to get full meals. People are on lunch breaks and have limited times therefore considering this (baring in mind they provide considerate amount of custom here) there needs to be a separate til for this if people are just paying so they can leave. I'm not coming back until someone states prices and queing system has been reviewed as I leave hassled every time. Will stick with the van that comes around

We were very impressed with the quality of the pies. They were freshly baked and delicious. Could not fault them and would definitely recommend. They also deliver for you. I would give the shop 5 Star rating. This week we visited the cafe one morning for coffee and a scone. The coffee was very good hot and strong. We were disappointed with the the fruit scones. They came in a cellophane wrapping with a use by date in 5 days time. The scones were rather bland and it was impossible to spread butter on them as they just crumbled. Therefore I would only give the cafe 3 stars for this visit.

We are exiled Quakers living in Fife. On our infrequent visits to Darlington we always make a point of buying a range of goods in Taylor's Skinnergate shop, but had never had the opportunity to try the Cafe in Lingfield Way. On this trip we managed to visit the Cafe. There is nothing pretentious about the menu, it's a typical cafe type menu, but the quality of the food is well above average. Pie, peas and chips for lunch was spot on. One morning we took breakfast there and for quality and price I've never had better, at only £4.60 for a well filled plate and a very good cup of coffee it's hard to see how it could be bettered!

This was the first time we have had lunch at Taylors. Just like the breakfasts, portions are huge. I had the mince pie, chips and mushy peas which all overflowed from the plate. The pie pastry (cooked with the filling) and mince were really tasty. The chips were not the best, soft, but still tasted good, not as greasy as they looked. Mash would have been a better option given the huge amount of mince in the pie.Interestingly, the clientèle at lunch was not exclusively truckers, etc - there was good number of sylph-like ladies tucking into their huge platefulls. Two lunches with mugs of coffee cost us less than £9.

The staff were very friendly and offered us either a full or a half portion which was more than ample and very tasty. We had a combination of pork with gravy and sauteed potatoes and Taylors signature pie and chips, which came in at less than £5 including a pot of tea which was fantastic value. If you want silver service then don't go to Taylors but if you want a mountain of food for a decent price then this place is perfect. Proper café grub and a huge seating area. I usually go for the pork dinner with all the trimmings but the pies area incredible. They do other daily specials like curries and fish & chips. £5.50 for a mountain of a pork dinner hits the spot every time! Busy and full of folk from all walks of life. It's in an industrial estate so expect truckers to call centre works, brick layers to bankers. Top café!

Just how a gem should be ! Hidden away, good honest food. Old school feeling and taste will be back many times hopefully.

I've been eating pork pies for 60 years and can confidently say that Taylor's are the best I've ever had. Full of well seasoned meat and wonderful pastry. The open topped pork pie with apple topping is a particular favourite of mine.Taylor's is certainly worth a detour if you are in the area.

The breakfasts seem to have got even bigger! The price has risen slightly since our last visit, and so, I think, have the portions. It is difficult not to have a full breakfast at £4 something, because just scrambled egg on toast, for example, is not much cheaper, and doesn't include free coffee. The coffee is very good - help yourself to it from a machine at the counter - but if, like us, you are a party of 8, it takes time. You can see the food being prepared just behind the counter, and it is brought to your table by extremely friendly ladies.Deserves to be better known.

Went for breakfast, but probably won't be returning. Whilst we are always happy to queue for good food, being totally ignored for several minutes is quite a strange experience, especially as we were the only people queuing at the time. There seemed to be a problem behind the counter with a telephone order but not sure why this would take all the staff to rectify. Eventually after putting in our order we were quite rudely told to wait due to nothing ready. A simple "take a seat and we will bring it over" would have solved the problem. Fortunately the food was worth the hassle but as an overall experience it was not good. I realise it is not a tope notch restaurant but simple customer service is common sense.

Been calling here fortnightly for a couple of years for breakfast just before the shopping begins. The English brekkie is great value for money and tasty too, the place is clean and the staff polite and organised. I've been a customer of Taylors for the past 20 years, buying pies and other savouries from them and have never had reason to complain. Great place, will recommend to all.

Afternoon Tea- Food beautiful but team keen to clear away plates before we had finished. Do had no jam or butter for scone. No offer of 2nd drink. A hot day and really unpleasant odour from staff member. Disappointed as previous visit staff very attentive. Today felt as though staff couldn’t be bothered.

My recent visit to left much to be desired. While the oat flat white was good, the sandwich mix-up was a letdown. I received a cheaper sandwich instead of the one I ordered and paid for, and the staff's lack of friendliness added to the disappointment. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn't address the issue immediately. Hopefully, improvements in service and accuracy can enhance the overall customer experience at the shop.

Definitely the best Cafe in Darlington without a doubt, the menu choice, the food, the service is excellent top marks. I have been coming to this cafe for over a year now. This cafe should continue with same staff, service, menu choices and food. Best In Darlington by far. It would be an injustice and a tragedy if it was to close or change.

Sunday lunch today for two. Ive had several Sunday dinners in the last year including high end establishments, and can say the food here was superb, cooked to perfection, and sufficient for the biggest appetite. Staff attentive and quick, the food delivered to our table in record time, and value for money top marks.

Ordered two cheesy chips and the top layer was cheese when I opened the boxes. Under the cheese was chips swimming in some sort of watery sauce. Absolutely was not cheese.
