What an amazing plaice to dine! The food is absolutely SUPERB & fresh with a smile included, if I was to think of an old school chippie this is where I go! I am now a regular customer and never looked back! Totally worth it and they have a wide selection of offerings.

Very poor service. Took ages to be served. I waited at least 20 minutes before receiving my order. And when I did the chips were cold. Will never return.

Absolutely terrible for delivery, the past two occasions it has arrived more than an hour later than said. We gave it a second chance and it was just as bad. I will long is the say I will never order online again.

Good hot food...cod, fishcake etc. all delivered to my care home in Southcote. Much appreciated Uber eats did the delivery

Went for fish and chips, had a peace of Haddock that was ok, ( freshly cooked ) but the chips were absolutely rubbish, it was as though they were cut in a cheese slice, just not proper size chips, how they won best in Reading defeats me, thus will not be going again, a total rip off.

We used to have the best chippy in Tilehurst on our doorstep but it’s not anymore. Whats happened to the chips? It’s like eating sawdust!

Ordered on Uber Eats then after making me wait 15 mins they cancelled the order. Why take the order in the first place.

Staff are friendly the chips are absolutely rubbish . Just so thin I wouldn’t call them a chip and looked fried . I would be going there again . Or recommend them to friend , needs to get his act together. I will go to the happy place on the Davies road form now on

We visited this place for a take away fish and chips in the spring of 2023. As the quality of the fish was beyond awful we agreed never to go back again. Yesterday evening on the way back home we decided to have a fish and chips and my wife, having researched the best chippies in Reading, again decided to give Tasty Plaice a second chance. If only we had not. We paid more than £20 pounds for fish and chips. The chips was ok no problem there (however we were charged medium and asked for/given only a small chips), but the fish.... Jesus, if was mainly batter anyway but even the batter wasn't edible. It was a chewy mess... Actual fish was bone dry and could be found only in traces inside the horrid batter. I almost chocked on it. I don't understand how this place was voted Reading's best fish and chips. We will never go back again. Please up your quality and this is just not good enough compared to what we had at the sea side and other chippies in Reading. Go to the one near the four-letter supermarket in Tilehurst. That's cosmic light years away in quality. Even from the low cost supermarket you can but a lot better quality frozen fish and chips.

This used to be a great fish and chip shop, we used it a lot, but tonight it was terrible. The fish was very overcooked, batter like concrete and fish dried up. The chips were not the best either. We will try once more next week, if it’s the same we will have to look for somewhere else.

Myself and my partner tried to call this evening to place a telephone order as we normally do? We couldn’t get through on the phone so decided to just call into the establishment and order it. We placed our order over the counter, which was a doner kebab and chips with Mayo and a doner kebab chips with lettuce chilli Mayo and ketchup and 2 sausages for our dogs. We waited as our order was prepared and took it home. When we got home? We unwrapped everything to realise that my doner kebab meat was in fact chicken tikka meat (which I don’t eat) with chips and Mayo. The girls serving were so busy worrying about online orders that I was given the lady In front on me’s order whilst waiting for our own. Very disappointed…. It’s all well and good taking online orders? But you need to make sure that doesn’t distract from your steady business also.

Nothing beats fish and chips at The Tasty Plaice takeaway. The chips are by far the best in the whole of Tilehurst honestly. And the staff are so helpful, friendly and deliver very good customer service. Especially the two young ladies who serve me every time. Would highly recommend their chips and other food. 10/10 ratings.

Our normal chip shop on Hilderns drive was closed so gave this chip shop a try ! Never again will I bother!!! Extremely small portions, cold, very little salt and vinegar. Very very poor.

Food quality was ok but portion sizes are terrible fot £8.50.... took 20 minutes too and thats just with one customer. Drive to Coley and treat yourself...massive portions same price. Customer service was bad too

Unfortunately the cod and chips were very dry, over cooked! Service was also very slow. Would not recommend on this occasion

Usually this place has always done good crispy chicken but yesterday it seemed barely cooked. My main concern however was that given the current pandemic I would have expected staff to be wearing a mask and food prep gloves but shockingly that was not the case. I think I will avoid returning until a much later date. . . Shame. .

Big order so rang ahead. Food ready, freshly cooked, good value for money. Friendly staff a great fish and chip shop experience, will definitely visit again.

Good food. Menu unusually didn't seem to offer large vs regular fish. Curry sauce was a bit runny but tasted good. Interesting to see sides likes onion rings or buffalo cheese bites. Food cooked to order. Chip portion sizes are good. Enjoyed the chips, not overly greasy. Will return!

We had an excellent gluten free fish and chips which they have started to serve on a Sunday. The food was delicious and the staff were all so lovely and friendly. Excellent value for money and would highly recommend!

Took a while, think they cooked it fresh but the food was outstanding and all looked good not crusty like some fish and chip shops will be.

First visit to this fish and chip shop having just relocated to the Tilehurst area. Food quality is very good, not greasy. We had cod and chips. The batter was very nice with nice tasting white fish. The Chios also very good. I am very choosy when it comes to fish and chips, however this has already won me over.

Good food and the staff are really nice. The chicken wings are acc peng. And the staff are dank idec what u say.

The Tasty Plaice must have the best chips in the area so delicious! Everything from Fish, Burgers, Kebabs I have tried at one time or another. Always brilliant. I must add the staff are always attentive, happy and helpful. highly recommended.

Best chippy in Tilehurst, used to think Lemon Plaice was better but these guys have upped their came with tastier chips and an extended menu.

It’s a quaint and sweet little food eatery. Prompt and polite service. Reasonably priced and close to other amenities. The food is delicious and the establishment is kept very clean and tidy. Perfect for locals!

great customer service, we had to wait quite a while due to a big queue (it was a Saturday night) so gave us a big bottle of coke for free. Lovely food would come again.

Having moved into Tilehurst this is now the closest chip shop to where we live.

I regularly buy fish and chips from this shop. The fish is really superb and of a good size. The chips are ok - you get enough for two people in just a regular portion! The only downside is that from ordering to leaving usually takes around 15 minutes. It is possible to phone beforehand so that it is ready on arrival. At least there are not lots of fish portions being kept warm - it is all cooked to order.

Had not eaten fish & chips for a while as we had had bad experiences in other fish & chip shops.Tasty Plaice was recommended by a friend and I must say we are grateful for his recommendation.The fish and the chips were cooked from scratch, they were not greasy at all and was very tasteful.Really clean and the member of staff who served us was very friendly.Will be going back again soon.

We are always greeted with a smile and the level of hygiene is very transparent as you enter, which is very important to us as a family. The menu has plenty of choices that caters for both adults and children. The food is of good quality, and very tasty. We have been so impressed with the exceptional service, hence we keep returning. Also recently we had family visiting from USA who thoroughly enjoyed their first 'Fish & Chips' meal. Also they were very impressed by the service and the welcome they received. Thank you so much.

This place is tasty. It's fresh, it's clean and it's run by two very friendly and helpful people. It's close to other food amenities and it's safe to say this beats them by a country mile.

The shop is well run with a great selection of traditional f&c food along with pizza, chicken and kebabs. Always good quality and good portion sizes hence great value. I would highly recommend this shop as the best in Tilehurst.

Always a warm welcome here with polite staff, the food is of a good standard and good value for money. If they could get the operation of the counter right it would be excellent. The policy seems to be to take all the orders before starting to serve the customer which means things get a little chaotic. The cooks should really monitor what's going on rather than rely solely on the server trying to manage what is and isn't cooked. This should not detract from the fact that the food is really good, I visit once a week simply because I really enjoy the food.

Our friends took us there to get take away fish and chips. It was certainly different from fish and chips in the US and was an enjoyable experience. The restaurant was very generous in portion size, so there was plenty of food for all.

Wow wot can I say, from the min I phoned the ordered through to collecting it and eating it, fab fab fab, fresh, tasty and plenty of choice.

Food is great and you get plenty of it for you money. There is parking outside or at the rear. Special orders are cooked while you wait.
