Gracias. Noche perfecta pasé @ The Tasting House.

The Tasting House welcomes wine novices and connoisseurs. Each week or so the vending machines are updated to offers approx. 18 different wines. Top up your own tasting card £10 at a time to try as many or as little as you like. Prices range from £1 for a taster to £7 for 125ml glass for a rarer or more special wine. Fizz Friday's, Tapas weekends and a new coffee bar it caters for most. I enjoyed the craft soft drinks (baby on board) whilst the girls compared the white wines. The pesto toasty was a great way to round of the lunch date.

I love this place. We come every once in a while and it's always delicious. If you are fond of wine, they have a large variety of it. They also have incredible pastries and the best coffee in Reading. I would particularly recommend the lemon drizzle.

Had to buy a non refundable ‘card’ in order to get drinks. Wasn’t notified that it wasn’t refundable so ended up spending money I won’t be using. Cheap wines that aren’t anything special. Only reason this is one star is because I can’t do 0 and the cheese/ham is ok. Next time, tell your customers its money you’re not returning rather than at the end. Also, overpriced for the wine served.

Imagine that you want to have excellent food, the best coffee in town and amazing wine. You will think going to London. Not anymore. You have a place in Reading: Tasting House. The selection of wines is fantastic. Every week you can discover something new. The coffee is as good as in Proud Mary (Melbourne). And the food! If you are looking for flavour and quality, this is the place to be. The food is like a trip around the world. It reminds me to some of the places I have been. Good atmosphere, great employees. And slightly hidden. You must go there!

Arrived with friends, having booked table in anticipation of lovely afternoon together . All started well, with advising on wine choices. Then decided to order lunch, that's when the problem started. Chose mushroom and scrambled eggs, but it arrived swimming with red sauce and was told it was paprika. Explained that I don't eat paprika and it wasn't listed as an ingredient in the dish. Replacement dish brought without issue, but this time the egg was not scrambled, but resembled boiled eggs chopped into small pieces. Returned to chef and asked for dish a third time with egg scrambled as per the menu description. This time the dish arrived with the owner saying that the chef had been in floods of tears, as a result of me allegedly saying that she couldnt cook. I absolutely had no appetite to eat the dish by this time as I was very shocked and extremely distressed by this false allegation, so too was another member of the party, who left the table, finding the situation difficult to deal with. I myself was by then in tears, humiliated by the upsetting and entirely false allegation. The owner appeared to realise that he hadn't addressed the problem correctly, having chosen to believe the disgruntled chefs entirely fictitious allegation and tried to amend the situation by offering a complimentary bottle of wine as we were making an unscheduled and very upsetting departure to a ruined afternoon.

My wife and I just discovered tasting house when looking for a cafe to get some work done on a Sunday. This place had everything we were looking for and so much more! We did a 1/2 portion of the board, the chorizo and eggs and the tex-mex brekkie and loved everything. Oh and the coffee was excellent as well. They have wifi and plenty of space upstairs. It is decorated with lots of attention to detail, the music playlist on point and we will now certainly be regulars. We are also definitely looking forward to coming by in the evening to try the wine. 5/5!

We happened upon this place by chance when looking for a great place for coffee which we found at Anonymous Coffee which is located here. What we also found was a great little weekend cafe sharing the premises called 'Bench Rest' - we both chose the Scandi Morgen which was very tasty. And we didn't even get to try the wine bar (the range/price of the wines on offer looks excellent), which is also co-housed there. Lucky Reading to have three great places in one.

I had no idea that Reading had a wine bar this fun, it’s a very well kept secret. From the outside it looks like a shop, but inside it’s all cosy tables surrounded by walls of wine. We chose to sit upstairs, which is quieter, out of the draught from the front door and felt a lot calmer. It’s candlelit, with piles of board games and a great atmosphere. The idea is that you have a card to put in ‘The Machine’ and then select your chosen wine and the size of the glass you’d like. You then present the card and pay at the end. This worked well for us; I wanted to try a mouthful of all the different wines (red, white, rose and an Orange Wine) and my companion wanted to try a large glass of every red available. We ended up getting through a couple of cards. Originally, we’d planned to have a couple of drinks and then move on to get dinner. But then we saw the menu and the chef. The menu was an array of exciting tapas, put together by the lovely Laura. I’d been to her previous business venture (Nomad Bakery) and it had been amazing, so we stuck in and ordered most of the menu. It didn’t disappoint; in fact it elevated the evening from fun to outstanding. I loved the Halloumi Burek, I was over the moon with the orange infused rice pudding. It was some of the best food I’ve had in Reading. Worth noting that they only do food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings; I don’t think we would have enjoyed ourselves so much with just nibbles. I’m a bit puzzled as to why some reviewers have been asked to pay up front. We definitely weren’t, we just ran a tab with a card behind the bar for food and drink. I want to give this more than 5 stars. I want to go back again and again and eat and drink and laugh. You need to book because it gets busy, but that’s because it’s so good.

We have walked past this place many times and thought it looked intriguing so ventured in yesterday evening. The request for money up front felt rather impersonal but I understand why this was needed due to the card driving the tasting. The wine advisor was reassuring and pleasant. We ordered some nuts and bread but 25 minutes in still no food. I requested to cancel as we decided to leave. Order couldn’t be found but I was given my money back without fuss. However no apology, no one asked why we wanted to cancel. Combine this with seeing the 2 food colleagues eating as they prepared dishes, a waitress who was very inappropriately dressed for evening service and a possible manger sat on a laptop at the counter means I won’t be returning. Such a shame as I was hoping to invest some personal and company time here.

No fuimos recibidos. ¡NO VAYAS!

A rather strange wine shop is to be found in the centre of Reading. In it, patrons enter and sign up for a digital card. The card can be topped up at any point, and used to taste any of the wines on offer in various increments of size. Primarily, it is a shop more than a bar and they are eager to declare this to all customers so that they are clear. It is not somewhere to get jolly well drunk, but more to try a small sample of several different wines on offer. The man behind the bar was both friendly and happy to guide us through everything, as well as sit and talk about the wines with us. The decoration, aside from wine cabinets, contains several very interesting maps of different wine regions. Some of the wines, I feel, were slightly overpriced - especially in such small measurements. However, they all tasted rather good. My only main complaint is that they had but one rose on offer, but I suppose that stigma will likely take a while yet to wear off from the more pretentious elements of the wine community in general.

The idea of trying a variety of wines with a charcuterie plate was an interesting idea. The menu was simple, and the food well prepared. It did take some questioning to understand the sizes of portions, but overall ok. The wine concept worked less well. There were 3 sets of wine dispensers. I asked for the logic of what was in each. There was no logic. The tasting notes for the wines did not cover all the wines and unclear how to buy the full bottles. The wine was expensive for the amount given. The bottles ran out regularly and when new bottles replaced the dispenser was not cleaned. This meant wines could be tainted by previous bottles. The place looked OK, but already had signs of wear. Overall a great concept, and can work if a member of staff spent a lot of time with you to explain. However in this case I felt quite disappointed by the execution.

A great little place with friendly professional staff. Different to other bars etc in town and this is what makes it so special. Don't be put off by the prepaid card system and enomatic - very easy to get your head round. Great to be able to try lots of different wines. Meat and cheese boards (which come with bread, balsamic and olive oil) are excellent - we usually just share a single board (£9) between the two of us, but they also do a larger size (£16). I have been twice during the daytime when it is usually very quiet and so can lack ambience - but have also been on a Saturday evening when the atmosphere was great - felt very european. Would highly recommend - but am reluctantly writing this review in case it becomes too popular and we can't get a table! Hope it does well and doesn't disappear like so many independents.

My wife and I visited the Tasting House recently, and we're quite impressed with their operation. The wine dispensing system, in which you put money on a credit card like device with a smart chip embedded and use this card to select your wine size to be poured, is a marvel of modern technology that is sure to catch on.The Tasting House also has two other important factors: outstanding little platters of sausages and other mezze-type dishes, of which all serve a locally produced dried sausage brand which is quite delectable. The second thing this little restaurant has is very knowledgeable and friendly staff. They also sell a selection of very hard to find spirits such as a selection of Japanese single malt and blended whiskies, Yamazaki being one of them. Sadly they do not have a liquor license to allow you to try the spirits.I rate this restaurant highly and am really looking forward to my next visit.

The tasting house is primarily a wine merchant where you can taste by the glass and have charcuterie to accompany. We have been frequenting the tasting house for the past year and it is quietly tucked away on Chain St. just of the main shopping drag. The wine tasting operates with a prepaid card (top up as required at the till) which you insert in to the wine dispensers where you can have a small taster, small or medium glass (8 red & 8 white/rose). We tend to use the Tasting House as an alternative to a pub - especially after shopping ! We have also attended a number of their tasting evenings where you get to taste, listen to an expert and discuss wines which are usually based around a theme (French, NZ, Christmas Fizz, Good with food etc). These are very popular and number are limited - so book early. The staff at the Tasting House are very freindly and extremely knowledgable. The bottles for sale are usually of the mid to high quality types and so are the prices, but the by-the-glass tasting is comparable to pubs. As said by a previous reviewer: "a hidden gem which more people should enjoy".

We came across this place quite by accident and had a great time there. On the one hand, they sell quality wines and you have the opportunity (paid) to taste wines - just general tasting or tasting before you buy.On the other hand, they also offer a lovely range of delicious charcuterie to eat with the wines - dried meats, cheeses, chutney, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, bread.Charcuterie is conventionally purchased - you just order what you would like. The quality of what is served to you is excellent and is an excellent accompaniment for the wines.Wine tasting - you load up a prepaid card (say £ 10 / £ 15 or more) and this card and balance is yours. There are then about 16 wines available for tasting using an automatic dispensing system (which also chills the white and rosé wines. You use the card to purchase the wine that you would like to taste. Three amounts of wines can be selected - a small taste, half a small glass or a small glass, although I am sure that there are exact measurement amounts. Prices are typically around 99p / £ 2,78 / £3.99 respectively. My wife and I tried 6 different wines and spent £ 10 on the wine tasting - enough for us, on this occasion although you may wish to try more. One thing that I must emphasise is that the wines are of a good quality and it was lovely to be able to try and them as you wish. Tip - even if you plan to drink more, you may wish to start by loading up your card with £10 and then add more later as required.Overall a novel and lovely experience - highly recommended if you like good wines and decision nibbles. They also offer special tasting events - book well ahead of the event to ensure your place.

I have visited the Tasting House many times since it opened and have introduced many friends and colleagues to its charms. Yet I have never reviewed it. So I shall rectify this now. In this week I have visited twice, for very different reasons. On Saturday my partner and I visited with two friends who were visiting us from out of Reading. We arrived about 8 and the guys put two tables together for us so that we could sit. We showed our friends how the enomatics work (basically top up your card, insert card, choose wine and size and away you go) passing on our top tip of remember to put your glass under the spout before pressing button. The evening was enjoyable. The music loud enough to not over hear others conversation but quiet enough to enjoy our own conversation. The choice of wine in the enomatics was varied and all were very nice. I visited again yesterday with my partner for an organised guided tasting. The Tasting was wines of California. A good selection of three whites and three reds. All good choices and all enjoyed. A good background to each wine was given by the host and we then made notes, rated and guessed the price. A fun and informative evening, given to me as a birthday gift and definitely enjoyed. They also serve a range of bread cheese and charcuterie boards which are delicious. Basically if you haven't been give it a try, either for a formal tasting or an informal evening. I am sure you will enjoy it and may even buy some wine to take home.

A different experience with superb amuse bouches / appetisers and a huge range of unusual wines from excellent terrains all around the planet. Friendly and interesting/ interested staff , laid back , tasting set up for a range of wines that change week on week and specific tasting evenings. Not cheap [ thank heavens] but affordable , good value and well worth repeated and frequent visits

I love the Tasting House. They are a very friendly place to visit. The enomatics alllow you to try wines before you buy which change every couple of weeks. Every month or so they do specific tasting evenings where vineyard/importer reps give you a insight into a specific region or wine. They do a great selection of Charcuterie with Meats and Cheeses served with olives and chutney etc from the Berkshire area. Give it a try. Highly recommended. A great place to find quality wines.

I first went to the Tasting House several months ago, based on the recommendation of a work colleague. There is no easy way to describe the TH. You'd think it was a wine shop. It looks like a wine shop....but it's a whole lot more.Yes, they sell wines, grappa & malt whiskey. But they also have a good selection of single (or sharing) board plates of sliced meat & cheese (and, due to popular Demand you can also buy jars of their amazing tomato relish there too). They have two amazing Egomatic (?) machines which allow you to sample the different wines. One is for reds, the other for whites/rose. To use these machines, you need to buy a card first (£10) and then you can 'top it up' from a small amount upwards....every time you sample something the price goes down accordingly....well, it is a wine shop, not a wine charity!Ciaran, Jack, Jen and the crew really know their wines and Dan advise as and when you need them too.On top of all this, they also do wine tastings, which, as a novice has helped immensely. They are independent and well worth a visit. If you have the time, Sunday's are the best days as quietest, so you can ask more questions then.

This is a small place where Kieran and his team welcome you and look after you, weather if its just a flying visit to pick up a bottle. Stay and try their delicious charcuterie boards or their newly introduced cake, try with the dessert wine perfect!! There are several white and red wines to try and these can be tried via a top up card which can be purchased at the till and kept for your next visit. They also offer wine evenings where the suppliers come in and tell you about their wines and vineyards, this can be a fun evening if you don't have someone who thinks they know everything and tries to outdo the supplier. Evenings can get booked up very quickly so keep an eye on their website for upcoming events. Wines are often discounted on these evenings as well. Most bottles start around the £10 mark and go up, but this is not your local supermarket. My only negative comment would be is that they don't have an outside area so its hard to go in on a sunny day, they do have seating upstairs, but yet again no windows.

The Tasting House is a wonderful sanctuary to escape the town centre bustle of Reading. The downstairs area can get quite busy so if possible book a table in advance. There is an upstairs areas but you are further away from the wines on offer. The wine selection changes on a regular basis so never gets dull. The deli boards on offer are a good choice as the wine accompaniment.

Here is your private dancer of viticulture. It is what you want it to be. You can be intimate with your Sauvignon and sweetheart or laugh with your comrades, charcuterie and a Cabernet. The Tating house has a great selection of wine. The nitrogen system means you will get a quality wine on a quiet Tuesday as you will get on a busy Friday. The menus are simple but of high quality. It does not try to be a full blown Resturant but a great place to have a glass of fizz and a starter befor moving on.I am looking forward to going back to one of the specialist wine nights.

Have been in here a few times and love the concept of adding money to a tasting card and then choosing which wines and which size glass to sample. The glass serving come in 3 sizes from a sample size to a good, robust size. Just remember to carefully position your glass under the pourer! .(And yes I have seen some people not do this)The wines change regularly. There is a small but good selection of natural and organic wines and I can recommend those from Italy. Wide selection of wines from other countries too, and from the lesser known (for their wine) locations;eg Lebanon. Staff friendly and helpful generally. Wine tasting evening too. Book well in advance as often these places go quickly.Give it a try; informal surroundings and you can also order a selection of cheese, meats, nuts and olives too.

I like the tasting house, but it can get a bit confusing if you've never been before. They do have a wide selection of wines, and some lovely meat and cheese platters. It can get a bit expensive, so is always a treat for us!

We visited with friends who had been here before and had a fantastic afternoon! You top up a card with a minimum £10, wander over to the wines, pop your card in the slot, grab a glass, and select your measure from tasting to a standard glass. The price of the selected measure is deducted from your card, and away you go. What could be simpler? A good range of charcuterie and cheese boards are available. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and you'll want to go back again soon, I know I do!

I'm a bit of a wine buff... well I try to be! And I was invited with a group of friends, to the Tasting House and that's just what it is...with a unique smart card tasting system you can help yourself to a variety of interesting wines all reasonably priced too.I am so much of a buff that I didn't recognise many of the wines but I sure liked the taste! With knowledgeable staff on hand and a nice plates of cheese and charcuterie this a perfect place to buff up your wine knowledge and right in the centre of Reading. Take home a bottle or two and play the wine buff at home.

One of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time! And the cakes and pastries are so fresh, rustic and homemade. Love it!

My husband and I have been regulars here for some time and consistently have great food and equally great service. I especially appreciate that I’m able to get anything on the menu made gluten free. The staff are lovely and accommodating of larger groups. Highly recommend!

Lovely canal side pub, with music decor. My only complaint would be that £15 for a wrap was a bit expensive, but it was nice.

I visited on my own, for a break from work, on a Tuesday afternoon in early September. I walked past by chance and loved the look of the window and the board with the invitation to join for tea and flowers that was placed outside. Being able to sit and enjoy a nice drink and enjoy the flowers even though I wasn’t buying any on that occasion was really a lovely, calm experience. And wow, they had some of the most beautiful roses I’ve ever seen. There were a couple of groups of friends in who were enjoying their conversations, myself and another person were either working or just enjoying the downtime, and everyone respected everyone else’s right to enjoy the space and experience in their own way, be it together or solo. The menu is on the wall next to the fridge, as you come in.
