TastEast in Glasgow City

Got there late so didn't have a lot of time but managed to try a couple of dishes. They have 2 menus , typical menu for Brits with all the favourites but also a menu with authentic mainland China dishes. I ordered off the latter and the Dim Sum prawn dumplings and chicken gizzard dishes were great. A dipping sauce would have been nice . The Chinese menu isn't marked for starters and mains so you need to ask which is which. Portions were very generous too. Prices very reasonable and a bit lower than is typical for the area and Chinese restaurants in Glasgow.Staff had limited English but enough to get by which is fine and added to the experience. They dont sell wine but you can get Chinese beer. Restaurant only had a few people in as I arrived late but was clean and has nice decor. Several Chinese eating there too which is always a good sign. Definitely going back as Chinese menu is very interesting. Along with typical Brit menu there are many dishes that look worth trying. Only accept cash or bank transfer.

Absolutely disgusting. Have not seen a worse waiter. Waited and observed. Table after us had had their meal and finished their meal. Asked one of the waiter and and he just nonchalantly said that the kitchen was preparing. After forty minutes we asked another waiter to pressure the kitchen only to realise that the order was not keyed in. We were compensated by have our order put to the front, which was not very generous of the restaurant. We were not even given utensils (not even chopsticks) when we receive our food, and we had to ask for it. The cherry on top was that we had to dine in the dark. One of the most memorable experiences in every bad way. Pay to experience peasant simulator, had to beg for our food Ps. The photo was taken in between the electricity malfunction

Pay to beg for food. Finally get the food after around an hour. Then we proceed with the food with no utensils. Had to eat in the dark because of electricity malnutrition. Paying a 2023 price to eat in the 2023 BCE. Do visit if you don’t mind with their arrogance.

Their sanitary conditions are very POOR, even cockroaches can be seen, and the service attitude is extremely POOR! ! Be sure to give a BAD review! ! I once tried to work part-time, but they treated the employees very badly, they didn’t seem to treat me as a human being, they kept ordering me to do this and that, they didn’t respect me at all! ! !

The restaurant was pretty cold, so most people were wearing jackets throughout their meal. The food was very tasty, and there were some really unusual dishes, like pigs feet & pigs intestines, if you're feeling adventurous. Worth noting that they only accept cash payment.

It's the Chinese restaurant I came for the most time. Because the landlady here is really friendly and hospitable, which makes me feel free to stay here for a lunch.

Fresh produce lying out which should be in a fridge, chicken tasted reheated which later led to food poisoning. I’d pass.

Visited yesterday we were in and out of this place within 5 minutes,on entering we were the only two customers which was a bad sign. We were presented with the menus and I was looking at hot and sour soup for a starter my wife noticed the price was £7 different from what was on the outside menu £5 on looking at my menu they had a sticker over the price stating £9? Asking the waitress what the right price was she hesitated and pointed out the correct price for the soup was £9 needless to say at this point we left.

Near authentic Chinese food, with some western options

Very poor service, after giving waiter our order our mains arrived before our starter which was wrong and sent back. Our King prawn main was nice however the pork which was recommended by waiter was bland and very chewy and was also sent back, by this time our starter arrived again very bland and was basically thrown on the plate. Still no drink order had to remind them again. However another table of foreign nationality were getting what looked like a great service drinks arrived eventually by this time meal was ruined so went to pay wanted to charge full price and cash only. NEVER AGAIN AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Had meal yesterday. Only one table in who got very good service. Our main courses arrived before the starter which was different to the one we ordered. They changed it and we had it after the main courses. Had to remind them we ordered drinks. Asked for bill to be told cash only. Thankfully not a problem for us but others beware. The ribs were very small with very little taste. The prawn main was excellent but the pork in chilli which the waiter recommended was sent back as we couldn't eat it.

Can be hard to find authentic northern Chinese style food in Glasgow so TastEast is a must for those looking to aboid the usual cantonese style dishes. The noodles were excellent and the guobaorou is pretty nice as well. All in all the food is very similar to that in the North of China with less of the sweet, anglicised junk you get at most of the chinese restaurants here.

Most authentic Chinese restaurant outside China. Having lived there for 5 years I really missed the food but Tasteast is the best I have had since returning to Scotland over 20 years ago. Would highly recommend the Cumin Lamb but everything we have had has been outstanding. Staff are also lovely and helpful if you’re unsure what to order.

Just a huge thank you for today's food. My wife (from Lanzhou) and I have been revisiting Sichuan House on Sauchiehall street for years as we found this to be the only place to get good authentic Chinese food in Glasgow. However, after a quality plunge at Sichuan House we were on the look out for a new place and we're so happy to have found our new go to restaurant. The staff are all really nice, the restaurants decor is decent and the prices are reasonable. We'll be back every couple of weeks! Edited * well that went down hill quite quickly. We went back in last week and all the food was very bland and average. The worst thing of all is the front house lady in the suit making something with her bare hands on the last table next to the toilet. She was touching her phone to have a face time chat with family, straight back to rolling some dough with her unwashed hands, dropped some items on the floor which she picked up and again continued to nead dough. She was making something in a stacked metal steamer and was using the most disgusting brown, torn, hole ridden rag I've ever seen to place in between each layer. I could not take my eyes off it the whole time I was eating. No way we will go back now.

Good Chinese food! Really love it and the price is affordable.

AVOID!!! Worst chineese food I've ever had, order bbq rins ( got 5 of the smallest ribs I've ever seen) breast of chicken chow mein was so dry and tastless im not eating it and also a special curry ... well.. the sauce is like water actually so watery it drips off the prawn cracker.. £22.50 for food to go I'm the bin ALSO THEY HAVE MEAN LYINGALL OVER THE PLACE ON TABLES THAT HAD BEEN DELIVERD WHICH SHOULD BE PUT IN THE FRIDGE 🤢🤢🤢

Really nice food. I asked Large potion of Singapore fried rice with chicken & chilli. I have got it what I expected. I’m travel all around the Europe But only the one place I have to more on. Thank you Team.

Quality authentic Chinese cooking. Restaurant / take away sell westernised Chinese food, but also sells traditional Chinese dishes.

My friend and I had lunch there. The food was so fresh and portions were huge. I had beef and tomato with fried rice and it’s the best I’ve had in 40 years.

Easily the best Chinese food I've had in Scotland.

Found this place after rejecting several other neighbouring restaurants. Really glad we did as the food is first class. I started with salty spare ribs: juicy and served with crunchy onions. Main course was chicken in a satay sauce, loads of tasty moist chicken in a tangy satay sauce. Plus there was lots of perfect fried rice. Service was speedy and the bill was very reasonable. Will definitely be back.

Found this place by chance and decided to have lunch one sunday . Food is excellent , we had the Lamb with peppers and the Chilli squid both fabulous . Would highly recommend for authentic chinese food . As mentioned in previous reviews it is frequented by people mainly from Asia

My wife and I were in the big city for a night and wanted a good Chinese cuisine. We found it, the staff were welcoming and pleasent, very helpful. Didn't mind our 10month old making her presence known. Full of Chinese customers chatting that gave it some more character. The meal from start to finish was fabulous, a delight. If I fancy Chinese cuisine again it would be worth the 3 hour journey from the Highlands. Awesome meal and service.

I went here the other day for a lunch takeaway. I ordered chicken noodles ( price £6.50) plenty noodles, beensprouts ,onions but only a pitfall amount of chicken to fit on the end of my middle finger . Wont be back totally ripped off

Nice and cosy restaurant with great tasting Chinese food. Best beef brisket noodles and stewed pig trotters I had in Glasgow! The place for great tasting authentic Chinese cooking.

Excellent food - this is a west-end contender to KaKaLok. The food here is more Chinese than Cantonese but the flavours are good and the food is tasty and fresh. If you like KaKaLok, give this place a try.

What do you want for lunch ? Chinese Dad. Chineeeese ! And so she found this restaurant as we walked past and what a gem. Felt very authentic as every other customer was Asian. Great service. Lovely food - I ordered Beijing duck from the menu in Mandarin. V tasty in a dark sauce and eaten with pancakes. Wife's prawn chau mein was excellent as was sons won ton soup. Portions were huge and great value. Had leftovers for the next day. Only issue was had to pay in cash. Thanked the chef team (waiter translated) because it was sooooo good. Great find by my daughter.

Went for dinner with friends. The food was excellent, staff was friendly and service was quick. Definitely worth a visit for all Asian food lovers!

Great food. Especially liked the lettuce cooked with fish in black bean sauce and the lamb in cumin.

The dumplings were amazing! Very friendly staff. Will definitely go back soon.
