Dumpling Monkey in Glasgow City

First time at the DM last night, can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it, grub was superb along with great service and warm and friendly staff, loved it 💚👍🏻

Dirty restaurant with rude staff and disgusting food. 🤮

I’m absolutely gobsmacked that this place is still in business. If only I could take away the one star that I’m forced to give. The service is shocking. We went in about 3pm and their was about 12 staff running around with only another table of 2 seated in the corner, despite this we had to order ourselves at the counter and pay up front (which should have been the first red flag) 🚩 I noticed they over charged for my bottle of water but was quickly shot down and told the menu price is wrong. The food was below average, borderline inedible. The beef soup stock tasted like they just boiled the kettle and dipped a small piece of beef trimming into it. Noodles were over cooked and soggy and there was about 3 bits of fat with half a mouthful of beef attached. The steamed buns were like leather filled with out of date dry pork, and their chicken dumplings had never seen a chicken in their life. The only redeeming quality is the price as it’s fairly cheap, apart from that avoid like the plague. Also, as we were leaving another couple walked into the soon to be empty restaurant and asked for a table for two, they were told to come back in 30 minutes because the entire staff of about 12 were all about to half something to eat, at the same time, all at different tables. Mental. 0.5/10

Pot sticker dumplings were a real treat, worth a visit.

Cannot fault the food at Dumpling monkey, always fresh and absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the chicken rice, spicy tom yum seafood ramen, beef flank ramen, chicken and pork dumplings. Service always efficient and friendly. Restaurant spotlessly clean with really good chilli oil available.

The woman who orders food at the front desk has a really bad face. Foreigners are very enthusiastic when ordering food. When they hear Mandarin, they automatically switch to a daze state. They look away and don't respond. I'm ordering and you just have this attitude. No. I know what you are crazy about

The front desk is a racist person, He was always very polite to the white people and very indifferent to the Chinese people

food was cheap and tasty, and i found the service to be quick, plus ordering at the till made whole process more efficient. the space is pretty small and it can get a bit too crowded.

My visit to Dumpling Monkey was surprising for all the wrong reasons. Despite its budget-friendly reputation, the experience was infuriating. The staff wore latex gloves—ironically less hygienic than bare hands—and refused to take our order at the table, forcing us to order at the counter behind a scratched plexiglass. The impersonal, rude setup was frustrating. Our table was dirty, and when we asked for it to be cleaned, a server muttered in Chinese, “What’s their problem?” The menu was sticky, requiring a replacement. When the table was wiped, my fork and napkin were sprayed with cleaning solution. Thankfully, I could use chopsticks. Adding to the chaos, the nearby table was charged £2 for takeaway containers—a petty move that added to the dismal experience. While prices were low, the lack of courtesy, cleanliness, and professionalism made the meal aggravating. Dumpling Monkey may be cheap, but it comes at the cost of your patience.

Don’t understand all the recent negative reviews. Have been coming to Dumpling Monkey for years and went again today, the food is consistently good. Comes out quickly and is always hot and fresh. The restaurant environment is very casual and you order at the till, so I don’t know what people are expecting! but the food is very reasonably priced and delicious. Would recommend to anyone!

Beautiful food, plenty of choice and fast friendly service. Would recommend- our 3 and 8 year old loved the dumplings

Disappointing. Pork buns were very dry and bland. Main courses were bland and padded out with excessive levels of onion. Service didn't make us feel any more welcome. Had high hopes, too.

You're kind of spoilt for choice for really great Chinese food round here now and although the food tasted alright and is quite cheap I wouldn't go back given the quality of what's on offer at the places across the road.

My friend Louise said try this and I was like HELL YEAH and it was stunning.

The food was extremely bland. I got the chicken fried dumplings and beef soup noddles. The dumplings were at least edible with soy sauce but for 6.90 for eight dumplings I expect some flavor. The soup was bland, the beef was far too fatty, and the noodles were soggy. To make it even worse, the table I was sat at was sticky. Save your money and go somewhere more comfortable.

…I ordered on Uber Eats, took over two hours to arrive and when it did it was freezing so I binned it, whomever eventually answered my many attempts at calling lied to pacify me and subsequently threw the driver under the bus …poor show

Two hours after ordering and no food and they're not answering the phone. Avoid.

Very small place with grumpy staff. Beef ho fan and salt and pepper squid small portions. Both lacked flavour. Asked for a beer. Was given a alcohol free beer. I thought it was in error and asked the staff. Was told that's what they have. Sorry, I would like to be told if you are serving me alcohol free beer. Avoid dump monkey! Not sure why such high ratings for this place

Staff very rude and over charged us, refused to show us the receipt and then got our order wrong and wanted us to pay more to change it.

Food was alright, some like the honey chicken was great but the soup noodles and rice were strangely bland and tasteless. Quality of food is somewhat inconsistent between visits. The main issue was the main cashier who was very impatient and rude and unwilling to listen or understand when food intolerances was brought up (otherwise the waiting staff did their job in a timely and efficient manner and we didnt have to wait to be seated)

Got there 10 mins after opening and working 10 minutes the place was packed. Service is direct and efficient. Order at the till. Really great fresh food. Would go again tomorrow!

Food was pretty mediocre, crammed in round very small tables. Shouted at by staff to “hurry with order”. There’s being efficient but this was just rude. All they were interested in was getting your money and then sending you out the door as quick as possible when you’d finished. Table of guests next to us got attitude from server because one of their party didn’t turn up and they’d been placed at a larger table. No need to speak to paying customers like that. Also awkward for other guests in vicinity to listen too. Not entirely sure I would come back.

A small , no frills , small restaurant with very decent chinese food. The dumplings are authentic and tasty. The prices are very reasonable for the area. The place is clean and efficiently run although it's a little cramped. It's well worth a visit.

Abrupt interrupting & asking loudly 'what else??' after every dish you barely order & then 'card or cash!?' without getting distracted by the sheer rudeness of 1 server at the till, put our whole group of friends off from ever wanting to come back with others, which we would have potentially as the food & dumplings were good apart from oiliness of dan dan noodles & other staff seemed ok. Real shame.

Udon noodles far too oily won't be using again!

Quality was okay, but not as good as earlier in the year. I'm not used to noodles so greasy. Staff at the counter win the award for most being the most brusque in the UK.

Disappointing delivery service. Despite using several times delivery was taken and paid for but no food arrived. Poor dismissive customer service when I called to enquire about delivery.

OK so the food is not good. Don’t get me wrong - I know it’s a cheap and cheerful but I don’t understand the reputation. Stodgy dumplings. Smacked cucumber salad that had spent way way too long in its marinade and bitingly cold from the fridge. Dan Dan noodles with literally water for stock - I had to dump in half the chilli oil pot and soya. I didnt expect miracles as it’s a cheap place but it has a great reputation. I wasn’t expecting the finest Chinese but overdone noodles in every dish - that can de sorted by any level of establishment…

The receptionist is extremely rude and has no basic courtesy and manners. She speaks to customers very rudely. The only reason we go to this restaurant is because the food is good but the behaviour the waitresses and the receptionist has is way below the standards of common decency. She kept on insisting that we pay in cash even though the card machine was functional. She lied to me stating that the machine was not working, I told her I don’t have cash and then she gave me the card machine to make the payment. Moreover she has no decency. I ordered two plates of boiled momo and they served me fried momos, I informed them and told them it is fine and ordered two more plates of boiled momo for take away. They gave me with soya sauce and I requested them to give me the chilli sauce for the momo which they usually serve at the restaurant. The receptionist refused to give me the sauce and was charging an additional £1.20 for the sauce that comes complimentary with the momo. I was willing to pay for it and then she hands me a tiny box to take the sauce and I was surprised since I ordered 2 boxes of momo, I should be given two boxes for the sauce. When I raised this she said I’ll have to pay an additional £1.20 for another box. She is ripping people off. Please be careful and report her behaviour on social media like I have.

Don't bother getting delivery from here. Regularly takes over two hours to arrive (over double the estimated time) even midweek. They'll also regularly sub our items ordered. When the right items arrive on time, it's great - but unfortunately that happens at best half the time. Just not worth it

Really loved this wee place , it was unpretentious real tasty food , sensible prices and staff were caring snd friendly, especially the lady who led me from from hard wooden seat to a comfy cushioned seat, showing a sense of caring ( because i’m old) 😊 Would definitely go back .

Food used to be average, but is gradually becoming even less tasteful. Staff are all rude, impatient and some are even aggressive, especially some of the waitresses.

The taste is finally good and the price-performance ratio is high; I've been here twice for dinner, and it's worth going again in the future~ (In addition to the Chinese patrons of this restaurant, many local people also come to visit and eat.)

This place has really went downhill. Staff were extremely rude and the food was so salty. We ordered soup noodles but the broth tasted like extremely salty water. Stir fried veg was also far too salty. The beef was tough and the wontons were mushy.

I decided to have dinner there. The food is amazing, the size of the portion is quite nice for their price. I wanted to have tea there , but haven't got any. The staff are quite weird, there was no smile from them - at all, not friendly staff.

General Tso Chicken and noodles were very tasty, but dumplings and char siu buns were not, clearly just bought frozen and steamed, not good

the General TSA chicken was awful. The chicken was tough, overcooked and covered in watery gravy! I actually binned it and just shared some veg chow mein. cpok and delivery was slow at almost 90 mins from ordering! the beef in black bean is still to be used but I am not hopeful!

Sent the wrong type of bao buns, not the char shui ones we ordered.

Ordered a takeaway, chicken dumplings and a chicken katsu curry. When I got home the curry had no rice (never known a curry to be served without rice especially a katsu) and the curry had so much fat over the top. I’m honestly not exaggerating when I say I have never came across a curry this oily before. Staff were nice but the food was rotten. Gyozas had zero flavour like absolutely none. Shocked that a takeaway in that location could be that bad. £13 down the drain. .

Got the complete wrong order, sent it back and was made out it was my fault. Had to pay again in order to eat something. Not an apology or anything, appalling service.

We've ordered from DM many times, and until now it has always been at least good. Tonight we ordered 3 mains - Thai Veg curry, Dan Dan Vermicelli and Beijing fried sauce pork noodles. (Sorry, there doesn't seem to be a way of making a new paragraph.). The Thai veg curry was inedible - the sauce was like dishwater, and no flavour at all. The Dan Dan was basically spaghetti with some pork mince and two bits of Pak Choi, also flavourless. We won't be ordering again.

Dissapointed overall. Beef curry sauce was so thin it hardly tasted of curry at all, could not eat the meal it was so poor.

Noodles cold. The chef?? and I use the word loosely as I very much doubt that there is a chef, should be sent for cookery lessons. NEVER AGAIN!!!

10/10 best Chinese I’ve had they’re amazing

The service attitude is extremely poor. I clearly didn’t hear my order clearly. The stupid waiter acted like he was trying to reason with me. He blamed the customer when the dish was wrong. His tone was so awesome that no one dared to touch him. The food was average and the beef brisket was The meal is just three or four pieces of beef, and it sells for 5.8 pounds. Don’t go to this restaurant, family members. If you make a lot of money, you will drift away. Let him die.

Best food in Glasgow without a doubt. Amazing value for money, incredibly quick service and excellent food. Takeout, eat in and delivery all great. Dont expect to be treated nicely, do expect to hear the staff shouting at each other. 11/10 would recommend.

Dumpling Monkey is great! Unassuming, highly efficient service and incredibly tasty food. I recommend the pot skin dumplings, peking spare ribs and the pak choi. If I were a local, this would be a regular for me.

Late then didn’t answer the phone. The food was not very nice, bad chicken and horrible chips.

We turned up 2 minutes to 12 and the door was open so we walked in to have the woman run at us waving her hands and screaming for us to get out all the while the man was behind the counter brushing his teeth where everything was getting prepped. You make up your own mind but not letting us sit down two minutes early plus the behaviour of the woman put us off and we swear elsewhere. Good luck to you, it may be cheap but is it worth it?

Best dumplings in Glasgow, fantastic value for money

Excellent priced Chinese restaurant, lots of choices on the menu.

We're only half a mile from this place, but our 2 piece order took 90mins to arrive, 30 mins after the latest they said it would arrive. Food was pretty good though, when it finally arrived.

Katsu chicken was dry and inedible

my food was sat outside my door and no one knocked so I didn't know it was there and it got cold. I also think I only got 1 portion of spring rolls when I ordered 2.

The best tenner you can spend on a meal in Partick. The pot stickers are divine, especially in the dead of winter. Covers a range of preferences from mild to spicy and vegetable-loving to vegetable-hating. When you're collecting, mind and follow the staff to the other side of the shop, because it's quite a small place.

Street food like you have never tasted, Great selection, served quick and leaves you wanting more if you could fit it in as the portions a generous.

Fast collection - very poor quality food. We have been numerous times to sit in but tonight’s order we picked up. Oily tasteless noodles, soggy katsu curry, watery bland soup. We wont be back !
