Chinaskis in Glasgow City

Been here a few times for dinner and never disappoints. Good mixture of small and large plates for anyone's preference. Food is always fresh and full of flavour.

Although tricky to find, this place was really worth the ask! Excellent service from the waiting staff team and the chef who delivered an amazing Sunday roast for everyone! Perfectly cooked and served up with ample amounts for us all including gravy and extras too. Thank you

Nice bar, vast selection of bourbon, large beer garden to the rear if you’re into that kinda action. Definitely worth a visit if you’re wandering aimlessly around the Charing Cross area.

A good mix of Asian fusion meals. Service was good, atmosphere was a bit quiet and we didn't get to experience the outdoor area but it was an enjoyable night regardless. The wine list is limited versus the whisky and cocktail list, like a lot of places in Glasgow.

Three of us went here on a dreich wet Bank Holiday weekend Sunday, for what we expected to be a nice dinner and some good conversation. Our BIG MISTAKE was not to leave as soon as we arrived!! Despite the fact there were only three covers (which included us), we felt as though we had just walked into a nightclub!! The music was so incredibly loud that we couldn't even hear the waitress when she came to show us to our reserved table and take our drinks order and she was obviously struggling to hear us too!! She was a nice girl who apologised and said that she would ask for the music to be turned down, however it would appear that if she had made this request she was ignored! When our drinks arrived we asked the waiter if he could ask for the music to be turned down, at least until we had eaten, explaining that we were having to shout over each other to be heard! He said he would ask.... but once again his request (if he made it) also fell on deaf ears;!!! (pardon the pun!) The thumping head bursting racket seemed only to be enjoyed by the staff who were having what appeared to be a 'wee jolly' as they looked like they were having a rare old time with a couple of them boogying away to the head bursting monotonous thumping racket!.... completely oblivious and disinterested as far as any irritation or dissatisfaction by us the 'paying customers?! The food arrived a little too quickly and it was average to say the least, but it was impossible to enjoy it or any conversation whilst we were sitting directly under the annoying blasting speakers!! Finally, in desperation, despite asking a female, who may have been the bar manager, if the music could be turned down, her response was that "it was a 'DJ night' due to the Bank Holiday and not how it would normally be" and that she couldn't... or wouldn't do anything about it?!! The fact that it wasn't even 6.00pm and there was no 'DJ' set up in the bar yet, or any 'party' punters on sight, we failed to comprehend her unsympathetic and flippant explanation. Either way, we couldn't wait to to get out of the place and discarded some food in the process so that we could make our sharp exit as quickly as possible! We definitely won't be in any hurry to go back to Chinaskis, despite being fairly loyal customers who have enjoyed many after work week nights there having a drink and a bite to eat with more enjoyable and appropriately chilled out 'background' music and very good efficient staff. I would suggest that it might make better business sense and be more customer focused in the future to give a bit more consideration and to forewarn anyone who might want to reserve a table for a quiet chilled dinner exactly what they might be letting themselves in for!! Unfortunately we didn't get that forewarning resulting in our Sunday visit turning into a complete wash out due to a highly unpleasant LOUD miserable experience!!!

If you didn’t know it was there you’d walk right past it. Was taken by a pal and will defo be back. Huge range of bourbons- I could’ve drank the bar dry!

My new favourite place to go for food. The staff really make this place. They are so warm and friendly and can’t do enough for you. Really helpful when trying to choose a wine, allowed us to try a couple first. They also kindly got us a table after we finished our meal, just for drinks, without us having to ask. So thoughtful. They want you to stay and enjoy ourselves and have a good time - not everywhere is like that. And the food! The food quality is so good! Loads of small plates which is my favourite. Calamari was best I have ever had. Fish tacos were delicious and first time I have tried tofu and will definitely be trying it again. The setting and decor are great too, and beer garden looks so inviting - will definitely be visiting this in better weather.

Really liked this bar. The bartenders were knowledgeable and suggested good cocktails based on taste. Lovely atmosphere and feel. I didn't have the food but my friend had a burger and it looked great.

Struggled to find restaraunt as no signage,got a couple of things wrong with order but quickly rectified and took bit off bill

I vaguely remember coming here as a student & it was great to be back (having returned to my native Glasgow for work & to catch up with friends). It has a very low key facade & the inside is quite dark so too easy to walk by! On a Friday evening the outside terrace had a great atmosphere but was not too busy. A couple of drinks led to a meal & the dark interior lends itself to a great atmosphere as night descended. My fish & chips were excellent & my friend & I shared a bottle of wine (gone are the days of necking back pints!). It’s worth a visit if you are down that way!

Previously had some good experiences here but stay away if you have a real gluten intolerance or are Coeliac. Not sure if it was an issue with the kitchen or the waiting staff but raised dietary requirements whilst ordering, and again when the food arrived, to confirm this twice. One of our party had an almost instantaneous and severe reaction to their food ending our night before it started. Probably ok for other things but I wouldn’t trust them to cater for allergens well and would say actively avoid if the above is the case.

So there's this bartender here who is just amazing who went out of her way to show me kindness and welcoming. I can't wait to go back. I might go today

Went here with some friends and ordered the chinaskis burger, it was way below average. The fries were like someone had chopped them into tiny bits before chucking them into the fryer. The vibe is good and the service was decent but food really was disappointing.

Went here today for the Sunday roast and was blown away with how good it was. The chicken and the beef dishes were both unreal and although the proteins were cooked perfectly it was the accompaniments that stole the show for me. I want to buy barrels of the sauce so I can have a bath in it and drink my way out. Yorkshire puddings were giant. Roasties that were heavy crispy on the outside and fluffy as clouds in the middle. The maple glazed carrots were the best and I can’t stop thinking about them. Service was great as well. Thanks for a cracking Sunday dinner.

Best restaurant in Glasgow hands down. My partner and I are here at least once a month. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is intimate and the music is always on point. The Bukowski theme only adds to the feel (even though he’d probably have avoided it like the plague). Never had a bad experience with this place.

Looks dodgy from the outside. Ignore that, sit down and order food. Fish tachos are excellent. I have to return and order a burger as they look fabulous. Great informal venue, small but cool. Staff extremely nice.

Booked this restaurant a few days before for dinner, we got there 10 minutes before our booking time and were told to sit at a seat for drinks and they would get our table ready for our dinner in the next hour. Drinks aren't what we came for and when we mentioned that it's like we insulted them. They then basically asked another couple if they were finished to give us their table and that they would fix it up for us. It was like we were a major inconvenience to them and we just left. Horrible service.

Visited with a party of 12 for drinks and evening meal. Pre-booked a table and food with the staff who were super helpful. Arrived and the drinks and food arrived promptly! Superb staff and delicious food in a friendly and relaxed vibe. Thank you!!

Hard to find but you'll be glad you did, not great signage outside so you may miss the entrance. Great food and service. I had the lentil dahl and it was full of flavour and packed a punch - the accompanying potato's were delicious, I would have been happy with a big bowl of these. My friend really enjoyed the spicy chicken burger. Inside has a lovely relaxed vibe, its lit by candle, very atmospheric but difficult when reading the menu so you may need your phone torch.

This place is special!!! The food is creative, bold, and delicious. Service and drinks are great. Had the cauliflower, lentils, sweet potatoes, Thai salad, and mussels. Everything dish was absolutely amazing.

Food was decent. Nothing to write home about and a tad on the expensive side, but still a good place to pop in for a bite. Service was excellent.

Beer garden, friendly staff, dog friendly

Always enjoy coming to Chinaskis, their own IPA & Lager on tap is decent. My only criticism is that there are some fairly hazardous lights in the beer garden out back. I hit my head pretty hard on one of them, and minutes later saw another patron do the same thing. We were both caught completely unaware, in much the same way as the EU was with Russia's Special Military Operation into Ukraine.

Lovely place and the staff are very nice, but the music is far, far too loud. I like to go to bars to chill out and listen to a podcast or my own music while I get some work done (this is during the day, obviously I would have different expectations for the evening or a weekend) The volume of music made this impossible. It was fine, because I went out to the terrace, but on a less nice day that wouldn't be possible. It is fine to have music playing, but perhaps a gentler volume could be considered?

Nice beer garden out the back. I had a vegan margarita pizza. Was delicious. Couldn’t tell the difference between non-vegan. I had had a few beers by that point though 😂

Had a few drinks and spent a lot of money 22/4/23. Staff very good and sufficient but somewhat...aloof, like no one knew anything about drinks apart from them. This sounds like the above review about the soda water arrogance. Despite spending at least £150, asked to move from our table in an almost entirely empty bar because someone else had booked that table for 2. Mental. It will be a while til we're back.

The cocktails here are pricey but they’re worth it. Staff are great and the beer garden is lovely.

It's more expensive than what is advertised online - they have obviously raised prices with inflation and not updated the website yet. So not exactly as cheap as it seems - some 'large plates' quite small for what you pay. Pizza was okay. Will go back for drinks, not food.

OK, if you’re on the way to somewhere else I guess…stopped in for a couple of quick drinks, which were OK, but not what you’d call ‘cheap’. Taking into account it IS a small bar, it seemed really cramped and the seating not particularly comfy…there wasn’t a lot of folk in when we visited either. The only loo working was the single PRM one on the ground floor, so not great when you need to use the ‘facilities’ either…

This place would be brilliant if they had enough people serving at the bar. Lovely bar, great atmosphere but I don't want to wait 15 mins at the bar. You need to turn around drinks faster.

Had a fantastic cocktail and some skin on fries as a snack. Both delicious and great service with a lovely atmosphere. Would recommend and will be back!

It's a good bar, good drinks. The bartender was spraying his friend with soda water and it hit my mate. He didn't apologise, he just replied "it's just soda water". The staff seemed a lot more interested in talking to their mates than serving anyone. Really nice place, just maybe don't stand at the bar too long...

My favourite bar in Glasgow. Great food (although I did get a cremated pizza once). A limited but exceptional spirit selection and the beers were all good. Also I liked the Bukowski vibe.

Just popped in on route to our hotel. The decor is stunning and gives the place a lovely ambience. Large selection of cocktails the 2 of which we tried were delicious.

Good selection of beers and bourbons and well made cocktails. Food is good too. A bit on pricey side but worth it for the semi occasional visit

Popped in for dinner on way out to an event. Food was great, well presented and best of all well priced. Staff were excellent and on hand when needed. Will be back.

I love, love, love Chinaskis. Great atmosphere. The food especially the Tacos are delicious. Great place for pre's before a night out.

Have been in for drinks several times and always enjoyed the atmosphere. We stopped in on Friday and ordered some food this time too. The small plates were really lovely, we tried the cheesy chips, cauliflower, popcorn chicken and brisket spring rolls. Everything was magic and we would definitely eat here again.

The manager was very rude. The food was not satisfactory. Prior to Covid, the food and service was excellent. I was very disappointed. I hope this place gets back on track.

Popped in for lunch and tried the chicken noodles. Some of the best I’ve tasted. The broth was spicy and full of flavour, and the fried chicken perfectly seasoned. One of Glasgow’s best bars overall, but the food deserved a special mention.

This place was near our Airbnb and was recommended by the host. Fun atmosphere, good food and good service. What else can you ask for?

Horrible place with a horrible deputy manager who tries to kick people out when they point out she's had too much to drink. She shouldn't arrive at 12:30 for a 17:00 shift

Staff great and attentive, tables wiped down before sitting but music playing far too loud and £34 for 2 drinks and 2 pizzas seems expensive. Pizza was no more than average, a few slices of pepperoni and thin layer of cheese,not great.

Service and beer was good. Good looking pub. If that’s all your after then great. However, avoid the food. The battered haddock and chips was dire. The batter was like an oil soaked sponge. The fish a tasteless paste inside the batter. The chips tasted off.

COOL BAR. If you’re venturing to the West End from central then pop in here for one. Chilled bar area and nice beer garden. Staff could have maybe been a bit more attentive and less on their phones (it was quiet when I went in but still, it doesn’t look good). The beer garden is small, but plenty of seating area.

I'm not really a fan of the main bar area, but the beer garden is excellent and is probably the only reason I would go there (that and the Weihenstephaner on tap).

Great food. Good DJ. Staff too busy to look you in the eye though. Difficult to get service at the bar. Would go again when it's quiet perhaps.

Best bar in Glasgow! Not cheap but plenty of ambience and decent bar food too. Outdoor space has been improved with heaters and roofing now.

You have to know who Chinaski was and be mindful of your surroundings or you might miss this bar and that would be a tragedy of the most lyrical proportion. Being a poet and being from Chicago and having a great knowledge of Charles Bukowski made this the perfect accidental happy place on a short trip to Scotland. It was serendipity that got us there – but it was good prices and great service that kept us there. It was a rainy day in October (2021) so we stayed inside – but there is a large and well-appointed outdoor space should the weather permit. The service was friendly and quick. They clearly enjoy working there as we bantered back and forth about Bukowski and the subtleties of tourism. The food was great. The Bukowski Burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned with the same complexity of the work of it’s namesake. This was the perfect ending to an extended weekend – before heading back home to Chicago. I highly recommend this place – but maybe don’t ask if you can buy a tee-shirt.

Numerous personal details to buy a pint? There are several equally as good if not better drinking establishments 2 minute's away that will not rudely demand your medical history to buy a drink. Days gone by.

Went to Chinaskis a few days ago. It was busy but the staff were still extremely attentive and warm. The drinks were amazing and the overall atmosphere was immaculate. 10/10 would go again.

Good food, helpful & attentive staff. Great facilities for outdoor drinking & eating, protected from any rainfall. Takes about 20 minutes to walk from Central Station. Would highly recommend.

Had a great lunch with my mum here, service was great - the staff could not of been more helpful. Ordered all our food and drinks through the website and it arrived to our table so fast!

Used to spend an inordinate amount of time in Chinaskis before moving to Canada 10 years ago. How much did we love it? We still talk about it all the time. We’ll be back one day. (We used to be in enough to be on chatty terms with one particular waitress and we feel bad we just left and never said goodbye).
