Sunday buffet , meal was extremely good. Pleasant staff.

Always a warm welcome when arriving. Good food...no... Great Food!! Fresh, tasty and vibrant. We have eaten here for over 20 years and counting! Well done Taste of Raj!!

I have lived in the Rochford area and been to The Taste of Raj many times over the past 20 years, but sadly will not be returning. We attended as a family of four and arrived at our table booking at 7:30pm yesterday evening (Sat 14th) and was greeted by a look of surprise by the staff when we said we had a booking (made two days earlier). We were luckily seated on the last available table right next to the hot plates. Restaurant was full and everyone seemed to be eating. We had our drinks order taken and ordered the usual popadoms which both arrived reasonably promptly given menus and then ignored for 30 mins until our order was finally taken at 8pm. The restaurant was beginning to empty out of the first round of diners at this point, but several people came in to collect takeaways. Our food finally arrived just before 9pm, an hour and a half since our arrival. Now when a restaurant is full and they offer takeaway service as well you can expect a bit of a delay, but with four staff in front of house at no stage did we get any apology for the rather lengthy delay, nor offered any further drinks, despite desperately trying to get someone’s attention. Only when we had finished our meal did one of the waiters ask if we wanted to order more drinks. We were up to this point completely invisible and all staff seemed to be concerned with takeaway orders. During our visit several of the guests that arrived to collect takeaway orders had to wait in the restaurant for over 45 mins for their collections and complaints were coming for all directions. At no stage did any staff acknowledge that we even existed and did not offer any form of apology. Appalling lack of service all round, thankfully no tip was added to the bill and I certainly would have asked it to have been removed if it had been. Clearly some major operational issues, whether it was too many takeaway orders or lack of kitchen staff, I don’t know, but when you go out to a restaurant for a meal you expect some service, especially if they had asked if we wanted more drinks they could increase their profits. Sadly, this experience was so bad will not be returning and will try Monsoon next time around.

Had a bone in our chicken tikka, called to ask for a refund and the staff refused to help. Not one to complain normally but we could've choked on that.

I came down to visit friends,and we ordered from here. What can I say? 2 hrs from calling,to receiving our order. Food was clock cold. Poppadoms were old,and,rubbery. Every single item of food had to be reheated,before consumption,some,inedible. My friend then rang up,to complain of the waiting time,and,the fact the food was cold,inedible, and,wasted. The person on the other line offered us...another wait,for more food(after 2hrs,I don't think so) Now,I've been a chef 40 yrs,my 1st response would have been,a sincere apology, and,a refund.. neither was offered..abhorrent customer service. All whilst paying £55(plus tip!) Never again..absolutely shocking service.. Needs a lesson in food temperatures,and,customer service I'm afraid!!!

DO NOT order from here. I had guests down from Yorkshire so thought we would get a take away. After spending £55 plus tip we then waited two hours for our food and had to call to see where it was. When it arrived, it was Stone Cold!!! The chipatti, naan and chips were consequently rock hard and inedible with the popadums were starting to soften. Our meal was ruined and the restaurants answer was "wait and we'll send more"!!....we were starving by then and told them not to bother as we couldnt wait another 2 hours!!! No mention of a refund once they have your cash!!! We had to cobble a meal together for our guests and were very embarrassed. NEVER again.

Waited almost 3 hours for a delivery. I phoned after 2 hours and they told me it was on the way. After 3 hours they told me they never received my order. I can’t comment on the food itself because it never arrived.

Do not order from here via deliveroo! Order was 2 hours late so we rang the restaurant and they reassured us it was on the way. An hour later it still hadn’t arrived. We then rang the restaurant again and they claimed they never had an order from us in the first place. The man on the phone was very rude and dismissive. We are now trying to get a refund through Deliveroo. A shambles!

Good food and service. Pricing very good around £25 per person.

Just finished my last mouthful of delicious curry, and it was the best one I've had un years. The tandoori chicken jalfrezi was wonderful, along with the mushroom and onion bhaji. Will definately be ordering from them again. The man that delivered was punctual and extremely polite too.

Ordered a delivery, 2.15 min to arrive. Food cold and items missing. Called them, absolutely no understanding or apology. This is the second time in about 2 months. Gave them the benefit of the doubt, never again.

Absolutely shocking if I could give it 0 points I would. I ordered food at 6:30 said it would be here at 8-8:30 that should have been my first clue to cancel the order. It then said that it was on its way for 45 minutes bearing in mind that it’s 10-15 minutes away. It then said enjoy your food, we had no food. I rang the restaurant up and had to repeat my address 3 times then I get we haven’t got an order. I said yes you have im looking at the app now. I then had to repeat another 5 times where I lived and my name. He said that it will take 20 minutes. The food finally come stone cold I had to through it away. We rang up again to only get told call just eat. The people and the service were absolutely awful I would definitely not recommend.

Rude, unfriendly staff. The produce is all frozen! I ordered tandoori fish, 45 minutes went by my partner had already eaten his food. I asked when my food was coming to which I had a snappy reply that it was coming soon. It didn’t come soon..I chased again. This time I said I no longer wanted the dish as it had been an hour and my partner had eaten and wished to leave as the ropey food had already made him feel poorly. The man then proceeded to tell me the reason for the delay was due to defrosting the fish! The fish isn’t fresh it’s frozen! They took an hour (not because they were catching the fish) but defrosting it. Disgusting. So very glad we demanded the bill and I didn’t risk eating the sorry state of a meal. When we then asked for the bill the way we were treated was awful and rather aggressive. I’m not sure why they behave this way to paying customers. Safe to say we will NEVER eat here again. You’ve been warned. Avoid.

Ordered at 7pm, was told an hour to an hour and twenty minutes for delivery. Food arrived at 9.20. Two hours and twenty minutes. Don’t take the order if you cannot for fill it on time. Never using again.

Beautiful inside, bit chilly by the back door, but food was hot and tasty, service was great! Atmosphere was how you want an Indian to be, friendly, loud and the buzz of everyone talking and being happy!

4 of us had a eat in dinner Thursday 16th 2023. We were all regulars of regency spice for many years. First time we ever ate in taste of raj and I have to say we were extremely impressed with every aspect of the place. Great staff, great food and great price. Thanks guys. ❤️

By Far the best Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in Rochford. The food is always delicious and the service is amazing. I would recommend the Sunday buffet finished off with a tasty dessert 🍨 from the menu.

What a complete shambles place an order at 5pm on their website, got an email to confirm the order had been accepted. 2.30 hours later still no food, phone to be told its on its way, 25mins later phoned up again to be told I'm mistaken and I couldn't have been informed it was on it's way as there was no order as their website does not take orders, they then phoned us back asking if we still wanted our order we placed... total joke 1st & last time using this restaurant shame we didn't get a chance to taste there food.

Phoned up again to be told no order was place as THEIR website does not accept orders & blankly called a lier , they phoned us back asking if we still wanted the order we had placed.....no thank you we are all for supporting local businesses 1 St & last time trying this place, would like to leave a review on how nice the food was but never got a chance to taste it....

I might give a higher rating on the food but given that we ordered food to be delivered and we are still waiting for it to turn up 2.5hrs later I can’t really give a fair comment on this! Deliveries have clearly gone VERY wrong tonight as I have seen two other reviews on Just Eat tonight saying their delivery has been over 2 hours as well. Restaurants shouldn’t take on orders that they clearly can’t fulfil.

Definitely book a table if Friday or Saturday night. Very busy restaurant. Food fantastic, service great (considering a Friday night and packed restaurant). Highly recommend.

Food was excellent, and I've eaten many Indian meals. Prices were same as every other Indian restaurant, Cobra and Kingfisher on tap nice and cold. Staff were really good too, we visited late on a Sunday so only one other table taken. All was great, and will be back.

Ordered a takeaway. It was lovely & hot. I had Bombay Chicken with potato & egg and my husband had tandoori chicken. Both of us agreed the chicken was lovely.

Top takeaway. Hot & quick delivery. The chicken was lovely and the poppadoms crunchy. I had chicken Bombay with egg & potato. Really flavoursome. My husband said his chicken tandoori was lovely too.

Got to be the best Indian restaurant in Essex ash the owner has recently spent a lot on refurbishments absolutely the best we'll worth a visit you won't be disappointed

I'm following a low calorie diet so these were my choices for a meal out (and still lost weight on the scales this morning 🙂): Salmon tikka w. salad & lemon garnish to start, very tasty. Tandoori king prawn for main sizzling on a hot plate with a side salad (no rice) was to die for! Delicious 😋 Oh, and shared a saag bhaji which I was pleased had hardly any oil in it and had plenty of flavour👌 Even the coffee they serve was good. Good service also.

Called and place an order said 45 mins to an hour more than two hour later it turns up.. we gave them our number when we ordered why didn't they call if they couldn't fulfill it !!! They take the payment so they don't care... terrible service food is luke warm why would we use them again 😡😡😡 !!!!

This used to be my regular Indian to go and eat in until Covid hit and we couldn’t eat in anymore so decided to still support them and have takeaways, out of 6 to 7 orders they messed up every one of them, I even went down there to complain and was told they didn’t want to lose my loyal custom so they continued to mess the orders up, it wasn’t as if I ordered a lot either, only two of us eating so not loads Def time to move on to another Indian

Most food was ok but just ok. Have had many meals in restaurant which has been great but take away not so much. Lamb was so though that we couldn’t eat it. Very disappointing as same price so should be the same quality

This was my first time eating out since Covid lockdown and boy! did I choose the right place to go. As usual when I am down in Rochford I go to Raj with my partner and son and I have never been disappointed. We had a starter and main course with rice and naans but couldnt finish it all so they kindly packed up our leftovers which we took home and had the next day. Thanks guys, we hope to be back very soon.

Our meal tonight was in light of the recent government discount. We always wanted to try the place, and this was an unmissable opportunity. Customer service was very good, very attentive waiting staff. Food was of good quality, we ordered peshawari naan and was given plain naan but didn't complain as the plain was tasty enough. Onion bhaji and poppadoms were lovely also.Pasanda and korma dishes were very tasty as was desert.All in all, reasonably priced after the government discount. Good service and decent food. Would come back.

Regularly get takeaways from Raj, I am afraid no more though. Food is usually good, but fed up with things missing, things incorrect, overcharging. Last four takeaways had the above problems.

We only had a takeaway but it was outstanding. We have used Taste of Raj for many years and have always had great food and great service. I'm delighted to recommend them. I don't think we have ever had a poor meal, eat in or takeaway.

I have been to the Taste of Raj on three occasions now and have not been disappointed. The food and service is very good and my favourite dish is a curry with olives in that is quite unusual but extremely tasty. Will certainly be visiting again. Recommended.

After reading reviews we decided to walk to the restaurant for a meal and weren't disappointed Friendly staff accompanied by good food so will definitely be going back. Thanks

Tried to order a takeaway tonight, man on the phone couldn't understand us and subsequently ended up with the wrong dishes and what we had wasn't edible, rice was running in oil I couldn't even have a spoonful, the only good thing was how quick the delivery was came within 10 minutes, perhaps we were just unlucky

We left it late to go out for dinner but managed to get a table at 21:15 and the food was nice and hot as well as spicy so if you like spicy try the naga food in chef’s specials, nice staff and comfortable surroundings all is good

For such a small restaurant, the atmosphere was great and the food was even better. Staff are friendly and accomodating, and not too overpriced. Would reccommend.

Was in Rochford & had been to another India restaurant around the corner many tines which is the best buffet choice I’ve had but I like to try different ones to compare well I shouldn’t have bothered this was my first & last visit to this place walked in the waiter had headphones in his ears the place was empty & it was 4ish so was a bit surprised had the buffet the Bombay potatoes was stone cold we had to ask for the chicken tikka masala be filled up the food was pretty good but when there is more staff than customers you know something isn’t right, if this was a school report you would be disappointed won’t be going back .

We were staying at the airport hotel and one of the receptionists recommended this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We booked a table and we were glad we did as it was very busy. Really good attentive and helpful service. Food was really good apart from one of our party who had the steak and it was just horribly overdone. But the rest of the food was really very good. Great popadums and pickles with plenty for everyone. Keema naan was especially good and the lamb was fabulous. Would recommend.

As the restaurant is fairly small, the choices on the Sunday buffet are fairly limited. But that said the food was good and nice and hot in temperature Good value

What a lovely Indian restaurant in Rochford. Clean and crisply decorated, super menu, delicious food and wonderful service. We were dining early (pre-theatre) on a Saturday evening and I hadn't expected the restaurant to be so busy (given the theatre is nowhere nearby!), so I imagine booking later is a must. It doesn't have too many covers but it serves take-away too.

A good Indian in Rochford, bit on the steep side, however very tasty and quite busy. Tandoori Chicken was good. Service was fast. Best to book, as does get busy.

Visited this restaurant with my wife and son and two grandchildren. We dined early so were the first ones in. Greeted on arrival and our coats taken by staff who were very polite. The restaurant is really cosy. Menu choice is excellent and a good variety of Indian curries. I cook my own curries at home preparing all my base sauces so think I know a bit about curries. Good range of six relishes dishes for the poppadoms to start. The crries were well presented and the rice varieties were good and tasty. The staff catered well for the grandchildren and they did very well to finish...almost. If you find a curry a bit hot , my wife usually does!!!!, ask for a Mango Lassi...Mango and yoghurt...cools the palate. This was a really good meal. The staff always on hand to top up the drinks. There were five in our party and we had quite a few drinks and it worked out at £20 per head. That’s not bad at all. Bonus complimentary brandy or Baileys. Although Monday there were a few customers in when we left. Oh...lovely garlic bread as well.

I agree with previous reviewers - absolutely lovely food and service IF eaten in. This is one of a few takeaways we’ve had and they’ve all been - well ...under par. The food seems completely different in quality and taste, very disappointing - shame.

Booked for my birthday having been here about 3 months ago whilst my son was at a party. Specifically booked as separate area from main tables as ideal for him as he has autism. Rang and booked table in advance specifying where we wanted to sit.

We visited last night to catch up with some friends before Christmas. Lovely time, the food as always was good, we all enjoyed a tasty well cooked meal served with a smile. It's only a small restaurant but it's the best Indian food in Rochford by a long way. Great value for money too.

Every year we go to the Raj for our curry and beer night and are never disappointed,the food is good and plentiful and we always have a good time.The restaurant is only small and can sometimes be a bit crowded but the staff are friendly and efficient.The menu is extensive and there is something for all tastes.

We ordered food for delivery .2 hours later no delivery. We called them .they never answer We drived to the shop .they did not even start cooking it . They ruined our Saturday dinner

I was introduced to this lovely little place by my brother in law. The food is very good and the service is second to none. They will always aim to please with asking for dishes,. You wont be disappointed and you will go back again. Parking is on the street but the square is available just around the corner.

After testing all "decent" restaurant in Rochford, my opinion is that Taste of Raj is the best one Good service Fast Tasty Food Not extraodinary but definitely a place to visit if you stay in the area and like Indian cooking

Had a family takeaway delivered one midweek evening in May this year. Of the six main course dishes I ordered, four were so extremely salty that it was like eating a spoonful of raw salt. The four dishes were completely inedible and went straight in the bin. Only the rice, naans and two mains were ok. I phoned the restaurant to complain, thinking they might deliver free replacements, but instead all they offered was an apology and a discount on my next takeaway which is ridiculous and a complete cop out because I will never eat food from this restaurant again. A very unpleasant experience.

Decided to try a curry house closer to home for a change, food was bland, no flavour what so ever. The chicken madras had a layer of oil over the top, chicken was chewy and the korma looked a grey yellow. Had to call up because they forgot the naan bread as well. Wont be using again.

I know what you're thinking, yeah yeah, Honestly, try it, Ask for Anan and Family, been in Rochford for 19 years, their dishes are consistant, the chicken is not this rubberized thing that has been marinading for 3 days in some bucket, this is succulent, juicy and freshly cooked. The Madras I warn you is on the fiery side, the Naan's are to die for, and the phone doesnt stop ringing OFF the hook for the duration of your stay. Which cant be a bad thing. I eat frequently here and every experience has been a delightful one, so much so, we have 2 other Indians in Rochford, which I havent even tried yet, but why would I, if the Taste of Raj ticks all the boxes. Cant miss it, its infront of the Grey Goose pubs.

We have been going to the raj for a few years now and the quality of the food is above and beyond any other restaurant in the area, their vegetable dishes are second to none and there is no drop in the quality when you have a takeaway but you may have to wait quite a while on weekends as it does get busy .

Every year a few friends visit this restaurant, after meeting up at the Beer Festival in Rockford. A very friendly amendable place. It was very late and most of the restaurants were closed, as it was 23:00. This place were preparing to close. They welcomed us and we were served, very good food. We were not rushed and they even ordered us taxis. The food is nicely spiced, good portions and all the accompaniments. The pricing is very reasonable and the service is good. We even got their Christmas Calendars to take away. The menu is very extensive, with plenty of variety for everyone. Every year, this place is consistent and delivers, good food and service.

On a weekend away and chose this restaurant based on review. The food was lovely and it was an enjoyable evening! I would recommend this restaurant to all travellers.

Very welcoming & nothing is to much trouble here.Food is always cooked to a very high standard & the menu offers a very wide range of Indian specials.I have tried all the other indian restaurants in Rochford but always go back for good quality & value.

I went here with my family, I have two young children and this was a fantastic place to take them. The staff spoke to my children and made sure they was safe when bringing out food. Service was on top and food was really fantastic. Over all I would recommend you to try this place as a restaurant.

We had always enjoyed this restaurant but a takeaway this week proved to be very disappointing! My dish - chicken rogan - was so full of salt that it was barely edible. My daughter's prawn shashlik was so highly coloured with red food dye that it could have glowed in the dark. Other dishes just didn't look inviting. Having invited our daughter and son in law round for a takeaway, my husband said he felt embarrassed at the standard of the food we served them. A new chef maybe? But certainly not up to previous standards.

Lovely restaurant, always greeted with a friendly welcome. Really nicely cooked Indian food. My favourite Indian restaurant that I also use for an efficient home delivery service.

Ash is brilliant and very helpful/ caring. Good food and delivery is pretty quick. Restraunt is on the small side but very cosy.

Been several times food and service always top notch. Always give a free drink after the bill is settled. Fabulous
