Taste of Kerala in Croydon

This is my favourite restaurant . I always come here with my friends to enjoy drinks with delicious starters and mains. Parotta super, chattichoru super and Kanthari mandi is amazing.

Teast of Kerala is a must-visit for authentic Kerala cuisine! The Express Meal is the star, featuring delicious Kerala Fish Curry and Sambar, all for just £7.99! Their Porotta and Beef are full of flavor, and the Masala Dosa is delightfully crispy. A truly amazing spot to enjoy the taste of Kerala!

This is hands down my favorite foodie spot in London! They have been serving authentic Kerala cuisine for over 17 years in Croydon, and it’s no surprise why they’ve stood the test of time. Their budget-friendly menu is absolutely worth it, and the express meal has become a local favorite. The highlight for me is the beef ulathiyathu—it’s simply mouthwatering! Oh my goodness, the flavors are unforgettable. Beyond the incredible food, the management and staff are exceptionally kind and friendly, always making you feel welcome. While many restaurants have come and gone, this gem remains the number one choice in Croydon. A must-visit for anyone craving genuine Kerala flavors!

We decided to visit this Kerala restaurant in Croydon yesterday, drawn in by its glowing 4.1-star rating and nostalgic promises of “authentic” food from home. Spoiler: the only authentic thing here was our regret. We ordered 3 Kizhi Porotta with Beef – their special of the day – and 5 appams with Fish Molly. The service started off well; a sweet Malayali lady greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome. But that’s where the good part ends. The food took forever to arrive, and when it did, we realized patience doesn’t always pay off. The beef in the Kizhi Porotta was clearly cooked from frozen – rubbery, thick, and the complete opposite of what you’d call “fresh.” The porottas? Burned. All three plates. For a dish labeled as their special, it felt more like an afterthought. Here’s a suggestion for the management: if you’re going to serve frozen meat, at least have the decency to inform your customers beforehand. When people come to an “authentic” Kerala restaurant, they’re hoping for fresh, well-prepared food, not something that’s been defrosted and overcooked. Transparency matters, especially when you’re trading on nostalgia. We gave our feedback to the waiter, who was genuinely understanding and even offered us a discount. Kudos to her for handling it so well, but we paid in full and asked her to pass the message to the kitchen. Hopefully, they listen. And to top it all off? Today, all of us are dealing with stomach issues. Make of that what you will. If you’re considering this place, my advice: ask about the freshness of the ingredients before you order. Or better yet, just go somewhere else.

Certainly the best authentic kerala restaurant I've tried in the UK. It isn't a fine dine restaurant but who cares as long as food is delicious. I can't rate less than 5*s for the authenticity of this restaurant. Staff are good and efficient but lack communication skills. Fish thali, parata, appam and chicken biryani are my favorites. Food is lot cheaper than other restaurants and it's real value for money. I've tried this place many times and would certainly recommend.

I had Fish Express meal from here. A very budget friendly meal which costs only 7.99 and includes fish fry, fish curry, cabbage thoran, rice, sambar, puliseri and salad. 😊

We've been to Taste of Kerala on 3 occasions. The first time we had fish meals and parota & beef roast. The fish in the curry was stale. The second time we had mutton biryani and chicken meals, the mutton biryani was bland. On the third occasion on Saturday, we has puttu & kadla curry and chicken meals, the coconut milk in the kadla curry was past its due date, had terrible stomach cramps later in the day and chicken meals was bland. Changing my review from 4-stars to 2. I wouldn't go back in again.

Biryani rice and Appam was not cooked well. Gobi 65 was like garam masala Gobi. Egg bajji batter was tasting sweet. Worst beef roast ever had. Fishmolie, kappa and porotta were good. Food prices are reasonable.

Budget friendly, great food and our special thanks to Pranav and Aiswarya who made the experience even more memorable, because they kept the shop open for us even it was nearing closing time. Even it was their shift time getting over, they served us without any hesitation or negative expressions, and their attentiveness was commendable, all with beautiful smile . Worst experience in Taste of Kerala Croydon .we ordered fish moli ,gobi manchurian both were worthless and too too bad . Parota was also a disaster .we have been here before but fish moli appam was our fav one .sorry to say ഒന്നും ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല Very disappointed

I had high hopes for Taste of Kerala, but my experience was a disaster. The chicken biryani was bland and poorly seasoned, while the kappa beef biryani and chicken fry were even worse. The flavors were off, and the beef was tough. I've had better meals from street vendors. Instead of running a restaurant, they should consider other ventures. This was easily the worst dining experience I've had in London. I won't be coming back.

We have been coming here for around 5 years all the way from London just to experience the joy of Kerala thali which now has been discontinued and replaced by meals instead.We are vegetarian therefore we loved the dishes.The meal items are now half in variety which was disappointing as paying nearly the same price. Maybe the owners are trying the cost effective strategy since they renovated but keeping up the same menu mostly rewards Or else you loose some customers too.

I had a bad experience form taste of kerala, my sister cane to the UK recently and my friends recommend me to have a meal from there. I ordered pazhampori and meat roll which took more than 45 min. The main course I ordered was 4 porotta and 1 beef ulathi dish which took 1 hr too reach the table. When I complained this to the staff they apologized to me, which didn't make my order come in early. So disappointed in how long I had to wait, this was a first experience for me. Starters and meant as early as possible we wouldn't call it a starter if it takes this long compared to the main dish. Never gonna recommend to people who doesn't have the patience to wait for hours to get their food better try somewhere else.

I was tried before the tea,today its like water and more brown color its not taste like tea ,we told them to replace it they tell you will always get like this tea,very disappointed and fed up The staff told me if you wanna good tea you have to put review on google😂 i dont know why?

unfriendly service ordered chicken curry and fish curry. both curries were not cooked properly. got an allergy after eating food. the hygiene is poor i guess in the kitchen. food health & safety should visit this restaurant as soon as possible

Writing this review with tummy ache. Visited restaurant today to experience renovated place. Ordered porotta Beef it was not tasty and now tummy aches. We also ordered dosa which was cold and felt like chutney served straight from freezer! Very very poor quality food. Extremely disappointed!!

Have tried their food many times in past and were really good.But it was not the same when we tries yesterday.We rdered beef frey kappa biriyani and lamp curry,leave alone kerala taste it has no taste at all.very spicy and no taste.Somthing really has changed.ambience is good now but food quality has gone down .dont want to return just for the ambience

I recently had a disappointing experience at Taste Kerala restaurant in Croydon and cannot recommend it. The food quality was lacking; the beef and mutton roasts tasted almost identical, as if they were merely different names for the same dish. The chattichoru was a major letdown, with the chicken and sardine fries served cold, indicating they had been frozen and reheated. The chili chicken was overly spicy but lacked real flavor.The beef and mutton were excessively spicy and not representative of authentic Kerala cuisine—it's more like the worst of Croydon. While the customer service was attentive and friendly, it couldn’t compensate for the poor food quality. Overall, it was not worth the money, and we won’t be returning. This experience clearly showed that the restaurant fails to meet expectations.

They were great when I tried it for the first time a few months ago. Today I visited the place again and booked Kingfish Pollichathu and Tilapia Pollichathu. Tbh both were so dull. Tasted like tomato curry covered over fish fry. You can call it anything, but that was not fish pollichathu.

The worst South Indian food I ever had. Had their signature chatti choru, everything was frozen. Water was oozing and dripping out from the food as it was defreezing on my plate. Please avoid this place at any cost

Ordered kerala porotta and beef roast, beef was old and heated up with lot of cardamom, cloves and cinnamon sticks, more than beef chunks you can find alot of cardamom and all above spices, ordered egg masala again, the same found 5 cardamom, 3 cloves and 2 big cinnamon sticks, waste of money.... Kerala fish meals seems to be OK, the customer service was outstanding.. Please don't eat beef roast, it is really old and just heating it up when we order 🤮.

Authentic Kerala food and absolutely delicious. Everything on the menu is worth a try. The reason for a 4 is because the Kerala meal items are always served cold, only the rice is warm. Service is a bit slow, tissues are never given unless asked for, and once we have finished our meals and ordered desserts, the plates are never taken away. Could be better if tables are cleared before desserts are served.

We recently visited your restaurant and, unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. We tried five dishes, and sadly, every one of them was unpleasant, lacking freshness and flavor. The food tasted stale and poorly prepared, which left us quite disheartened. While you are serving food to customers, there’s an expectation that it will be done with care and quality. With the same ingredients and spices, delicious dishes can be made, so it's frustrating to see this potential wasted. Running any business, especially in the food industry, requires a sense of responsibility and humanity. Customers come in with the expectation of enjoying a good meal, especially in a country where food plays such an important cultural role. Unfortunately, it felt like you were merely taking advantage of the opportunity without delivering on quality. Given the prices you're charging, it's only fair to expect better standards in the quality of food and service. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and improve in the future.

Used to be good.. hence ordered via Uber Eats on 16th Sept 24 and the food was utter disgusting.. beef roast was rubbery, gobi 65 was soagy and tasted old.. kerala porotta was the inly good among what was ordered.. we ordered for almost £50 and had to throw away 75% of food.. really a night to forget..

Went today with my uncle 14/09/2024 round 6.45, got a lamb curry and chicken curry with 1 roti and rice, overall very tasty authentic tasting Kerala dishes, rice could have had some cardamon or chilli but definitely will go again,great food and staff

Last week, we visited the restaurant and ordered several authentic Kerala dishes. One of the dishes we tried was Kerala Chicken biriyani, which began emitting a foul odor before we started eating it. The quality of the food was quite low. Based on the cost and the quality of the food, we could visit many other restaurants.The customer service was exceptionally welcoming .

While coming back from Cornwall trip, thought of having some crispy porotta and beef fry. Tried to order via “order online” option in their website, which didn’t”t worked as expected and called them to their mobile and landline number, nobody have picked the call. Called again ,someone have answered the call and ordered for porotta,beef ulathu and beef roast and collected it. Porotta was not good as expected, it tasted like it was prepared couple of days before and reheated and supplied when it was ordered. I think humza and shana, the frozen ones are much better than this. Porotta was so heavy, in the sense , it was so thick, we can never compare with the ones in kerala. You will be so disappointed. When you say about beef, it was also the same. You will never be able to satisfy your craving for beef fry from kerala. The pieces of beef were big, looks like someone was reluctant to cut it and make it in appropriate sizes. Quantity was so low.Paying like 9 or 10 Pounds and you are not getting enough portion. The quality of beef was also poor, but they have cooked it well. Both beef items were bit spicy. Biriyani in this place was terrible, but kappa and beef was good before. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Test at your own risk. Enjoy☺️

Wanted to try out beef roast with pazhampodi and it was an unusually weird mix of sweet banana fritters and spicy beef roast. Not sure if this is normal for kerala cuisine, so will give them the benefit of doubt... but the masala dosa was the worst I've had in a south indian restaurant in the UK! Stuffing, tomato chutney and sambhar was rubbish. coconut chutney was not too bad.

Ordered two chicken biryani and one Chicken Roast. The quantity was a lot but no taste. Chicken did not taste or look like chicken, maybe because it was stale. Too much oil in the roast. Don’t Recommend!

Every food is kind of spicy. The briyani is not authentic. Feels like spicy masala rice with chicken . Their service is good even though some foods are not authentic.

We have tried veg fried rice and chilli chicken…i never saw a veg fried rice having black pepper chunks, that too…they have added a lot of them where we cannot eat after two spoons and chilli chicken i don’t know what taste it was very sour …really disspointed to visit this place

Not recommended No more this way I heard some people rejecting me on social media, first I went and asked for a tea and then chicken and chilli as a starter, after that I ordered biryani, naool, porota, appam, fish molly and it took 20 minutes to come. It's a pity if Sheri can't give it to her...Kerala Biryani Shokam and what did you give her by saying fish molly....Sheri didn't even cook the yarn porota that she gave...When she came, she felt like she had eaten her meal. Don't fool people like this by saying Taste of Kerala. ! pls don't think that you will die by eating whatever you give them...!

Chicken biryani taste stale but beef is not good Rate like it is made with pork ghee More fish thali meals add some curry only good one thoran no wax customer will be provided with water and tissue asked for it should be on the table if not no tissue in washing area no dryer. Very bad 😏

Small, clean and cozy place. The Kerala chicken fry was just amazing. Wasn't too thrilled with the beef, (Ulathu, I think). The beef was chunky, hard and dry. Loved their nool parota, and would definitely recommend having their Soda Sarbath, nanari based. Was lovely. On weekdays they don't do bun parota, so I didn't get a chance to try it. Maybe next time.

Taste of Kerala provided an exceptional venue for South East Chamber of Commerce’s business networking event this afternoon. The combination of exquisite food, charming ambience, and top-notch service made it a memorable afternoon for all attendees. Many of the businesses expressed their intent to return, not just for future events, but also to dine with their families. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and highly recommend Taste of Kerala for any business or personal dining occasion.

Had a bad experience, after reopening. The top floor has flies, and it stings. The place just looks like a canteen mess, it is suffocating. The food was fine, but the ambience is poor and could not enjoy the food due to the bad smell. The service was very bad, did not serve customers on the top floor as they had a party on the ground floor, felt discriminated.

Attended a business event here today and the location and settings were perfect. Friendly and welcoming staff, lovely food and a great atmosphere overall. Would highly recommend to those looking for quality food and excellent customer services within a vibrant and clean environment. Will be back soon to try a few more dishes as there is such a wide variety on the menu you'll be spoilt for choice. Thanks again.
