Tried Taste of Chennai on Sauchiehall Street and it was legit! The dosas were crispy, the kothu parotta hit the spot, and the curries had real depth and spice—not toned down. Staff were super friendly and the vibe was chill. Great spot if you’re craving proper South Indian food.

Disappointing Experience at Taste of Chennai I recently visited Taste of Chennai in Glasgow, and I have to say, I was quite disappointed. I ordered a dosa, which I was really looking forward to, but what I received was soggy and tasteless. A dosa should be crispy and flavorful, but this one missed the mark entirely. To make matters worse, I found it frustrating that I had to pay extra for sambhar and chutney. It’s quite common for Indian restaurants to include these essentials with a dosa, so having to pay for them felt like a letdown. Overall, my experience was far from what I expected, and I won’t be returning anytime soon.

I had an amazing experience from start to finish. I started with the chicken lollipop and Chettinadu chicken soup both were incredibly flavorful and hit the spot. The dipped vada with sambar was also good, though I wish it was a bit more soaked to really soak up all the flavors. For the main course, the Mysore masala dosa stood out as the best it was fully coated with spicy masala and perfectly balanced, not sweet at all. The chicken kothu parotta was absolutely delicious, packed with bold spices and textures. I also tried the classic parotta with a side of chicken Chettinadu curry, and it did not disappoint. Every bite was rich and satisfying. To wrap up the meal, I had buttermilk, which came with refreshing ginger bits in every sip, and a glass of rose milk that instantly took me back to my childhood days. Every dish I tried was full of flavor and definitely a place I’d love to visit again!

While the staff member serving us was friendly and polite, the overall service was extremely slow, which unfortunately affected our dining experience. It took nearly an hour just to receive our starter — and when it finally arrived, it was served at the same time as the main course, which was quite disappointing. To make matters worse, the dishes were brought out with gaps of 10–15 minutes between them, causing the earlier plates to go cold by the time the others arrived. The slow service was particularly frustrating as two of the children ended up falling asleep before their meals even arrived, meaning they didn’t get to eat at all. On top of that, our salad was never served, and due to the delays, I had to cancel it. Taste-wise, the food was actually quite good, but the portion sizes felt quite small, especially considering the premium prices on the menu. Overall, while the food had potential, the slow and disorganized service really let the experience down.

Came a long way from Ireland to try some Indian food in Scotland, especially craving good South Indian flavors. Overall, had a mixed experience — the food was mostly great, but the chicken biryani was a bit of a letdown. It didn’t quite match what I’m used to back in Chennai; seemed like white rice was mixed in, and that made it feel off.Do try That said, everything else we ordered was absolutely awesome — full of flavor and beautifully done. We loved uttappam , idli , lamb varuval , chicken lollipop and filter coffee. The staff and the owner were incredibly humble and lovely, which really added to the experience. Would still recommend for the overall vibe and great dishes .

Very disappointed with this place. Masala chai was so horrible that it looked like it was done to make it taste worse! Otherwise it is not possible to make chai that horribly, one has to try really hard ! Soup was simply just water and some vegetables. Not cooked, extremely thin and light. Absolutely lacking taste. 2 stars because, a few main courses that was served tasted ok. These guys need to step up on many things, considering they are in a city which has potential for south indian restaurants to grow.

Food tastes decent but the portions unbelievably small so not worth the money service was not great either we had to ask for cutlery tissues etc

I read the reviews and went here. My experience was not as good as I expected. The portions were small. The taste was good. They charged extra £3 for putting chilly and coriander topping on my dosa which I found to be unreasonable.

I had the pleasure of dining at Taste of Chennai in Glasgow yesterday and tried the Schezwan fried rice and chicken tikka biryani. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service provided by Nayan was exceptional—truly appreciated! However, the highlight of my visit was the tea. Without a doubt, it was the best tea I have ever had in the UK—rich, flavorful, and perfectly brewed. It left both my mind and stomach completely satisfied. Was at Taste of Chennai, Sauchiehall St, Glasgow tonight. Atmosphere, decor, cleanliness was 10/10. Ordered Lamb Chops and Kane fish fingers for starters. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection, juicy and melt in your mouth. The fish was also moist did not dry out. Mains was the south Indian garlic chicken, I can defo say this was the best dish I've had in a very long time, the garlic naan was soft n fluffy, perfect match for the dish. All the food came out piping hot. Finished off with the masala chai, ideal end to the meal. The staff was very welcoming, smiling and knowledgeable of all the food dishes. A very good experience, 100% would come back soon and would defo recommend to try. Amir

The food was so so tasty loved the chicken chettinadu and the lambs chops were so tasty and juicy the staff were so friendly everything was on point .

Service was really good and MOST of the food was delicious. The let down for me was the rice. I don't mind paying top dollar city centre prices, but for that kind of money, I was not expecting microwaved rice with huge lumpy bits in it. Apart from that, I would go again.

The food was as expected and matched the descriptions, but the service was disappointing. We experienced excessive wait times, both for our meals and when requesting the bill—despite the restaurant not being busy, with only about five tables occupied. We had to wait over 20 minutes just to make payment, which was quite frustrating. I hope the management takes this feedback into consideration and works on improving the service efficiency.

Hi So I loved the food no doubt , but dosa came it was cold though they gave hot one again when I asked them so So there were three girls there when I was there Megha , svati , Nayan Nayan started serving us , but he cme 3 times to us she forgot what we ordered and then the way she was putting things on the table felt rude , maybe we could be wrong but didn't feel good And then svati we didn't interact with her , she came and just started her billing machine to pay , but suddenly she moved back and went back I don't know why But megha was really good , with a smile and helped us good and served good also But for the food and ambience really good , sorry but I think the staff should be little bit trained , then it would be great

Taste of home at a faraway place

I ordered for chana bhatura and Mysore dosa. I paid £25 for these 2 dishes and I got the smallest portion, i mean I paid £25 for 2 dishes and they are sending my meal like I am taking from them in free. Small bhatoora small dosa and sambar is like just water and coconut chutney is the worst thing I received. I will not order from here next time. They ruined my hard earned money

Our first time dining here and will definitely return. Food was flavoursome and plenty of it. The staff were very attentive and polite. Tried some new puddings as well which was brilliant

We have been to Chennai quite frequently and never experienced rude behaviour or approaches from any waiter. I do always respect especially girl, but the waiter named Rayan Joseph was quite rude and surprising. No idea what makes her to come up with this kind of approach to customer. We always think about Chennai as a quality food and good service, but at this time We were quite upset. Hopefully management will look in to the waiter behaviour and approach to customer.

Best South Indian I’ve had. Stared with Idicha Kozhi Rasam, a warm and cozy soup. Seekh Kabob which were very and fresh tasting. The main was Chettinadu Chicken Curry with Garlic naan, chili naan and peshwari naan. It was way more naan than we are used to but so delicious. The curry was spiced well, sweet and very tasty. Service was warm and inviting 100% recommend

We had a lunch delivery for some of the Ophthalmology team today at Gartnavel General and the food was absolutely beautiful. Some of the best Indian food ever, such a huge selection, food was lovely and hot and delivered straight to the hospital, pleasant young man delivered. Would highly recommend this restaurant. They also included extra sides. Top class will definitely be ordering again. Thank you for an amazing lunch.

Myself with family friends visited Saturday for dinner. we asked for table for 5 people. we waited for 10mins and table was offered right opposite to main door, every time the door opens there was freezing wind coming in which was not comfortable. We requested for other table , they told its reserved but till the end of dinner nobody arrived at the reserved table. it was pretty disappointing for lying and making us sit in freezing area. We had to repeated call to take our order, to change plates, for spoons, bills. when we asked to change the starter plates, they questioned Y'. This was ridiculous. Mango lassi was worst ever had before. Being we Indians , know the taste and so we didn't ask what goes in the dish which we placed order. other thn Non veg platter , nothing was good(garlic nan, garlic chicken, veg Korma, kesaribath) I wouldn't recommend this restaurants specially for Indians who has the taste of Indian food. Advise: please train your staff to give equal respect all customers, Reconsider your Chef for good recipe.

A 5star restaurant for south indian cuisine. Never disappoints.

I ordered chicken fried rice a few mins ago and honestly it was not fulfilling. The rice was ok but the chicken was very bad. It wasn’t cooked properly and I feel like I could have gotten egg fried rice instead. I normally enjoy the food but not today😔

Very good southindian flavours being a south indian i really enjoyed the food over there i tried lamb chukka and lamb biriyani. Best food i have ever had in UK to be fair and specially great hospitality from vidya she is absolutely amazing and very professional. Note to owner: 1) vidya is doing best service she’s an angel 👼 . 2) coming to taste of the food its absolutely delicious remembered homeland INDIA 🇮🇳.

Last week, fifteen of us from work went to Taste of Chennai in Glasgow. It was amazing! Every dish was delicious, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The dosas were crispy and tasty, the curries were rich and fragrant, and the biryanis were absolutely delicious. If you like South Indian food, you should definitely try Taste of Chennai. You won't be sorry!

I dont know why you guys started making paper thin dosa it used to be better earlier. Just to make size bigger dosa became thin. Dosa is soooo thin that it hurts the palate. Foods is good no doubt except dosa. When i visited last time i gave feedback but next time also nothing change.

I had a fantastic meal at Taste of Chennai in Glasgow! The non-veg meat platter was the highlight — it was absolutely delicious and immaculately cooked. First visit to this restaurant...on a Friday night...food was great ....and the service the same....but..OMG... for some reason someone decides to have...what is pretty much dance music thumping away to accompany the meal. And at a volume that made it difficult to catch what was being said by friends across our table...I'm not hearing impaired but I didn't enjoy my experience and I would share my view with others. If you want loud dance music with your Dosa...then this is the place for you... For me....no thanks!

Was here exactly a year ago, the taste of everything is so amazing and so close to that of home that it brought me here again on my trip to Scotland! I cannot appreciate enough for the love and warmth shared by Mr. Siva and his exceptional staff Jenny and Megha. They were really kind to suggest us some really good dishes and always wore a smile. The Egg Fried Rice, Prawn 65, Dosa chicken and the Rassam everything was 10/10. This place is a home to me in Glasgow, Scotland ❤️🫶

Absolutely amazing food and service . Everything you would hope for from an Indian restaurant.

Happy this restaurant was open at 9pm on a Wednesday though disappointed by the overall quality of the dishes ordered. While portions were generous, the chana masala, sagh palak (?), and chicken tika all tasted a bit "canned." The sauce of the chicken tika tasted burnt. Plain naan and coconut rice were also uninspiring. Overall we left sated though would not return.

I have tried food in different places in scotland but I felt this is super expensive for the portions they give, they are serving 3 pieces in chicken lollipop for around £9 this is the first time am experiencing this and the chutney they serve is hardly sufficient for half dosa, staff were friendly and polite though. Amazing authentic taste of south Indian dishes.

We love Southern Indian cuisine, and Taste of Chennai Glasgow is doing everything right. As well as a generous range of curry dishes, the menu also has dosa, idly, soups, starters and sides. My 3 companions ordered Paneer Masala Dosa, Paneer Fried Rice, Plain Dosa with Paneer (why yes, they're all big paneer fans!), and I had Chettinadu Fish Curry with boiled rice and Veechu - a thin spread parotta. The service was outstanding, very attentive throughout our visit and everyone was very helpful answering questions about the menu and explaining the preparations. The portions are very generous, everything was prepared fresh and was absolutely delicious. And the fish - WOW. A perfectly balanced king fish dish with just the right amount of heat and a rich, savoury flavour. I had a lovely rose milk with it, I was in heaven. We're already planning our next visit to Taste of Chennai Glasgow. We all want to explore more of the menu and I am really looking forward to enjoying the Fish Moilee. At the end of the meal, we offered our most sincere thanks to everyone for a great experience, the chefs and staff at Taste of Chennai Glasgow will feed & treat you like you're family. We would give 6 stars or more if we could. Thanks again! 😊

It’s not worth for money, called”taste of Chennai” but nothing to do with South Indian Chennai food at all. Quite disappointing with the food .

My wife and myself visit Glasgow occasionally to attend shows at the Kings Theatre which is very close. We have been a couple of times and were impressed with the friendly staff and quality of food. Our last visit was yesterday 5th August and we ordered Butter Chicken with Pershwari Nan and Chicken Kuruma with plain rice, both dishes were absolutely delicious and would say if you are attending a show call in here for a meal beforehand you will not be disappointed.

We got the worst possible kothu parota and chennai briyani; the chicken was very odorous and the briyani tasted like tomato rice mixed with some sort of tomato curry, I don’t have an option to give negative rating for the food

a shame that the dosa isn't gluten free vegan like its traditionally meant to be - nor do they have adequate alternatives for those with allergies

I was very impressed with the customer service there. I’ve visited this place with my friends. We’ve ordered gobi Manchurian, chilli paneer and noodles as starters. All of them were delicious and had authentic taste. For our mains, we’ve tried several dosas like rava masala dosa, ghee roast, mysore masala. The mysore masala and ghee roast were really nice. Rava masala dosa was quite hard tbh and the filling inside all the dosas were too less. The girl serving us did get us extra masala upon asking for the same. She even changed one of my friends rava masala dosa as it was hard as compared to the authentic ones. This was my second visit there. In my first visit we had paneer butter masala and naan. That was very tasty. Overall food is good..it’s a nice restaurant..good ambience and definitely great service. Food was good..

Great food and brilliant service

I went to the restaurant 2weeks ago with my daughter, it was my first visit and ordered Mysore masala dosa and paneer dosa. Both dosas were brought to the table very quickly after we put the order in (as if they already sitting there), looked very flat and tasted very soggy, samber had okra pieces in it that was very stringy and hard, chutneys were ok. But it wasn't as a dosa should be crispy and light. It was not a good experience, so probably better to stick with my old place. I was in on the 8July about 1:15 p.m No, I didn't speak as nobody came to ask how the food was. As far as your offer of visiting your kitchen is concerned that's not the solution, I'm only saying what I experienced.
