Every time we go to Dumfries we call in for either a mid morning snack or for lunch and we've always found the 'Home Made' food to be first class along with the service that we receive. Well done to management and staff for looking after us.

Ordered soup with bread and it took about half an hour for it to come, other people just coming in were getting served much quicker! I eventually had to go and complain! Also charged £1.80 for a can of Irn bru from a multipack, daylight robbery! Won’t be back in a hurry!

Appalling service - I went on recommendation of a friend with my blind severely disabled husband - when it came to pay it was “sorry cash only and if you had come the right way into the cafe you would have seen the signs” when your with someone who struggles to actually walk at all you look for the easiest path to where your going not spend time looking to see if your going the right way - will never darken their doors again and from the attitude I doubt if that will bother them - moral of this review is if your disabled give Tarff a big miss. Note I have not carried cash sine the start of the pandemic!

We visit Tarff for coffee or lunch at least once a week and have nothing but praise for the quality of the food and lovely staff. However, it is now a regular occurrence that the card reader for electronic payments isn't working, the story being that it declines every transaction. There is no cash machine on site and no option to get cashback from the retail shop, as we've been told that the cafe is operated independently of Tarff. At a time when most retailers are asking customers to pay by card rather than cash to protect their staff from Covid, we don't always carry cash, and were very disappointed to arrive yet again and find that the card machine wasn't working. On this occasion, we had forgotten to bring cash, and so had no option but to leave and go elsewhere. Its location means that Tarff is definitely a 'destination' coffee shop, so I feel that the very least the operator could do would be to organise a replacement machine as a matter of urgency. Perhaps a comment from the coffee shop owner would be appropriate on this occasion?

First visit to Tarff since it closed due to Covid. Really well signposted and organised. Felt very safe. A reduced menu which is understandable ie: sandwich fillings of the day ( choice of three) rather than multiple choices. All food, crockery, cutlery etc behind Perspex screens avoiding multiple people handling. Details taken for track and trace. My OH and I had soup and sandwich combo which was brought to us in timely manner. Both soups hot and nice freshly made sandwiches. Observed prompt clearing and cleaning of tables - yes, a wee queue was forming but it was peak time during ‘Eat out to help out’ ! Well done to coffee shop staff and thank you !

This is as bad as it gets. Have been here many times in the past and have made positive reviews. Sadly this is no longer the case and we won’t be going back. Went in today for lunch only to find no menus or prices available. Staff were completely unaware of what was on offer. Why were no prices were available? We walked out!! Get the feeling that something underhand is on the go here. Realise these are difficult times but shame on you if you are trying to take advantage of the ‘Eat Out’ initiative. Suggest you visit Hetland Garden Centre to see how it should be done.

I consider myself a bit of a soup aficionado. Visited Tarff today and had the broccoli and Stilton soup with a Coronation chicken sandwich. The service was slower than usual, but boy, was it worth the wait! Hats off to whoever makes their soup as it was probably one of the tastiest soups I have ever had (apologies to my wife!!) The delay must have been down to them filling my sandwich with so much chicken!! One recommendation I would make - please, please, put your recipes online, especially broccoli and Stilton soup!!!

If you like to eat your food with flys buzzing around your head, crawling over your clothes and landing on your food then this is the place for you. It’s such a shame because the food is actually very good although I could only eat half of it as the flys had paid a visit to the other half. It was a bit ironic because only a few metres away the shop was selling fly spray and powder. Needless to say we won’t be back. It needs a visit from health and hygiene bodies.

Visited this coffee shop today with my eighty eight year old mother and my brother who is recovering from a recent stroke. While I was next to being served my mother and brother where asked to vacate the table they were at to give it to someone who had been served. There was no please or thank you.Apparently you cannot sit down till you actually have your food. I think the staff should realise that not everyone can stand for long periods waiting to be served. My mother was upset and embarrassed and spoilt what had been a lovely day. Think they need to rethink their policy, not every disability is obvious. I and my family will never be back

I ordered a baked potato with mozzarella and tomato slices - with Italian seasoning - what i got was an under cooked spud clabbered with cheese and two thin slices of tomato - the "italian " seasoning was dry sprinkles from a large catering jar and the single leaf and half baby tomato which constituted the "salad" was dressed with treacle (or a very very sweet sticky sauce ) . As the table wobbled and my not so bad latte developed a froth due to the sea sick table ...my 7 quid spud and coffee developed a nauseating aftertaste.

This little café is located at the rear of a Farm store that contains all manner of farm items together with a gift and clothing selection. Plenty of parking and just off the A75 (the Trip Advisor map shows it further away from the A75 than it actually is). It is a 'hidden gem' and always packed when we visit - mainly with local regulars which is a good indication as to its credibility. We found it by accident a couple of years ago and are now regular visitors whenever in this area. Very relaxing atmosphere and the staff are friendly and helpful plus they are very keen to ensure that visitors go away happy. There was a minor error with our order today but a complementary plate of freshly made toast more than compensated for that. My brother in law and I had the 'plated breakfast' and it was delicious - freshly made and well presented. My sister was not hungry so just had a slice of toast whilst my wife had a white chocolate and cherry scone - home made and so delicious that we bought four to take away.

While it doesn't look that fancy on first glance, I have to say the food was absolutely delicious. I have eaten here on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed. The array of wholesome homemade cakes give the lingering image of the wives of this farmer's co-operative, spending their evenings bound in their pinny's whilst mixing and kneading over their Aga stoves. The coffee too, is also very good (decaf available), although on this occasion it was ridiculously hot. Something which is easily rectified. Not the most relaxing or comfortable of environments - but it is spacious with plentiful seating - and let's not forget that home baking!

Family visit at lunchtime today. The place was busy, but we soon inherited a table which was fairly swiftly cleared, but not wiped. Wiping was done only after we asked, and anyone looking for a classic definition of 'perfunctory' would have seen it in action.Service was not of a high standard, with a member of staff placing a plate in front of the guest to my left then unnecessarily stretching across me and my meal to deliver a plate to my right. Poor training, I suspect.Food was mostly better than satisfactory, and there was an excellent tomato and red pepper soup. But there was also the most dreadfully bland Coronation Chicken ever encountered - in my sandwich and my daughter-in-law's baked potato. And the only way they will know is if they read this, as nobody bothered to ask us if everything was OK.Tarff is usually better than this, but today it disappointed.

I called here for morning coffee and was delighted that I chose Lemon Drizzle Cake, the most moist cake I have eaten out for a long time, had a real home baked flavour, and the icing was gorgeous. The others in our party had scones which were equally fresh and a good size, not too flat! The tea and coffee were fine too and the service was quick and cheerful. Only downer was the tables and chairs, a bit boring really, and the area might benefit from a bit of screening from the rest of the store, but really, in the scale of things it was very good quality and excellent value as well.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.
