Tannochbrae is a must in your stay in Dufftown. James and Louis run a top notch B&B and restaurant. Make reservations. Come a tad early and have a drink and a dram in their cozy sitting room. Order from the sitting room and will be seated when your food is ready. The food is fresh, local, and very very good. Take your time and enjoy this elegant Scottish experience. Save room for dessert!

Also insgesamt eher enttäuschend.

This restaurant is part of to a Guest House in the town. It is small but has a nice menu and an excellent bar. Prices are quite high but the quality is good. Service was friendly and helpful. However, I was puzzled by the lack of an ice bucket for our white wine - the only options were having the bottle on the table or taking the wine away to keep in the fridge. What is that about? Perhaps that staff member was very new? The location of this restaurant is good too - right in the centre of town. The kitchen closed at 8 pm which felt very early in midsummer but this is rural Scotland.

We were greeted by Big Ben, unlike his London counterpart, Big Ben had a much softer side to him and clearly caught the eye of the ladies. He took our coats and showed us through to a delightful bar jam packed with whiskies and we sat in a bonny wee room on leather bound chairs to enjoy an aperitif. The ambiance was terrific. It wasn't until we were shown through to our table that we experienced real treat. Despite the Norwegians at the adjacent table having ordered all the scallops (they were forgiven for being so nice and friendly) the starters we did get were scrumptious. Then the mains arrived. My ordinary rump steak was anything but ordinary. Cooked to perfection with a crunchy medley of just right veg. They raved about the carrots done in a butter and honey sauce but the piping hot cheesy cauliflower and broccoli was my favourite. Then the worst happened. My wife's partridge arrived Glenrinnes Pheasant Breast with black forest ham and red currant sauce and was passed to her under my nose. The heady aroma was all too much, it smelled wonderful and despite my perfectly cooked steak I now wanted that. I waited until she went to the toilet and took a forkful - it was glorious. The same happened with the sweet, my crumble was tart and lovely but the sticky toffee pudding and whisky flavoured ice cream was so alluring that I grabbed my spoon and stole a chunk. Oh how I wish I'd had that too. Seriously this was so good that I don't want anyone to go there. I want to be able to book a table anytime I am back within a hundred miles of that place. I liked that the chef / owner came out and talked to us afterwards. A very pleasant (and remarkably young fellow) we heard lots of good things about him from the locals. I would say that this was the best food I have eaten anywhere in the world - and I've been to McDonalds and Burger King.

I had the pleasure in eating here last night and I was very impressed. I was up staying with old friends who treated me to dinner. The menu offered a great selection of local game and meats, including a very tasty haggis from the butcher across the road. The house wines were very good and served at a lovely temperature. The highlight of the trip was to see so many whiskies in such a small bar. In summary, great setting, service and food.

The meal is wonderfully presented, and very tasty, and the service is very warm. We had made reservations to take our meal at Tannochbrae House before leaving home. It was a good choice because we had a delightful evening. Alan served us before dinner cocktails in the whisky bar downstairs. We enjoyed the assortment, talk about scotch whiskies and the general humor. Dinner was fabulous with a number of options. The local lamb was prepared for three and ceremoniously carved at a an adjacent table. It was described as tender, flavorful and the best ever enjoyed. Three sauces were given for the lamb, a mint balsamic, jelled currants and a piping hot brown gravy. I had a delicious fish prepared in what I would describe as tandoori style with preserved lemon and spices. The vegetables included tender fresh baby green beans, carrots, baby potatoes and a separate serving dish of fresh cauliflower with a delicately flavored light cream sauce. While full, we gave in to temptation and also feasted on desserts, whisky rice pudding and creme brûlée. The creme brûlée was as I like, wonderful caramel top on cooled custard, with essence of vanilla, that has the fluffiness of enfolded cream. The whisky pudding was quickly devoured and as perfect in texture and flavor with a hint of whisky flavor. My husband ate his with complete absorption. This is a high compliment as he samples rice pudding wherever he goes! Our server, Jenny, invited us to take our coffee and tea in the back sitting room. There was a sweet small fireplace with a cozy fire. It was so pleasant. We then had the opportunity to meet Susie who reigns in the kitchen. She took the time to welcome us and to share her knowledge of food and the area.
