If I could i wouldn’t even give the service one star, absolutely appalling, We turned up at 2pm and asked for a table they said they aren’t taking walk ins (despite the place being empty) okay fair enough, went back out and looked online to book for there next availability to our surprise 2:15 was available so was 2:30 and 2:45 and so on, so we booked online and went back in, said we’ve booked now and was greeted with “you’ve gone out and booked to come back in defeats the object of not having walk ins” we asked what his problem was he replied saying how he has so many bookings!. The place was empty, the online booking system showed full availability No idea if it was due to the way we were dressed (chilled day home cleaning decided to have dinner out) because we were lesbian couple with baby, or maybe he just didn’t like the look of us, either way will never be returning

I recently booked 15 public sector colleagues in at The Talardy for a training course we were holding near by. I stayed there 3 years ago and always remember it as the perfect place. Without exception, they all gave great feedback. Here's just a selection of their comments: - Accommodation was great, staff were really attentive and helpful and the food was lovely. - Staff were so friendly. - Rooms were clean and comfortable and the food was glorious. - Really simple check in, and food was superb. - Extremely good hotel and staff. As a group we had an evening meal allowance of £25 which more than met my needs, lovely grub. - Coming from the South, the scouse fella that worked at the hotel really made me laugh, he was so attentive and thoughtful. Thank you. - Food was great, rooms were clean and comfy. - Location - Perfect. Hotel - Perfect. Staff - Exceptional.

I'll start with the good. The location of the Talardy is superb. Slap bang on a junction with the A55 Expressway and handy for Rhyl / Prestatyn / Rhuddlan / St.Asaph & more. 5 stars. The atmosphere is surprisingly quiet given it's location on a very busy junction. Inside, the background music is just that, background. 5 stars. The staff are attentive and despite there being only 2 staff on bar / waiting duty, they clearly worked hard and served all their customers in a timely and attentive manner. 5 stars. After ordering, our meals arrived in a timely manner and the plates were hot which for me is a good thing. The food was super tasty and thoroughly cooked. Payment was taken only after eating, which made me feel valued and trusted. 6 stars. Now for the not so good. First, let me be clear, these are all "not so good", but I would certainly eat at the Talardy again. The lid on my chicken pie easily detached from the rest of the pie and was much crisper than the rest of the pie. After returning home, I reviewed the menu before writing this review. The kale, honey roast carrot and green beans seem to have gone missing. However, the mange tout and garden peas arrived safely. The mashed potato was creamy, but towards the edges, some of it was a little rubbery. The only Menu on the tables was the "standard" menu. I couldn't see any lunchtime deals or lunchtime offers other than the 30% off "standard mains" (for which I had a voucher). In summary, I would really like to have given 5 stars for this review, the atmosphere, staff, trust and tastiness certainly earned 5. Sadly let down by poor attention to detail on the items listed on the menu versus the items served. The bottom line is, it's a chain pub with a standard menu which is huge. They can't possibly prepare everything on the menu from fresh ingredients to order. It's more expensive than an all you can eat carvery, but the taste is far superior. On balance, I have no reason to complain about any aspect of the meal. The positives offset the negatives and perfection is almost impossible to achieve. Yes I would definitely, definitely eat here again. A solid 4 stars from me.

Came with friends. I have not been for a while because felt the standards of food and menu had deteriorated lately and used to come regularly. We won't be returning any time soon. The menu is basic and now the chicken has gone from the menu ( which is what we used to enjoy) we have difficulty finding something healthy and enjoyable. The food standards have also deteriorated its now like an expensive weatherspoons. So we will neither be returning or recommending to eat here.

My adult daughter and I were on a mother daughter Road trip visiting various family members over quite a large area. We stayed in several hotels during this time one of which was yours. The hotel had lots of facilities for us to use and the staff, particularly the young lady on reception who then was serving breakfast in the morning were absolutely Essential to us as I had made a mistake in my booking which she rectified over the phone before our arrival. The room was large and adequate for our needs unfortunately there was an alarm that started at 6 o’clock in the morning in the room opposite and although staff did try to rectify it, unfortunately wasn’t able to be done for a couple of hours Not the fault of the staff on duty. I would use it again but only for a night or two. The breakfast was excellent and a good value but the shining light was the young lady who was on reception who sorted out a mistake that was entirely mine and made our stay delightful.

Staff informed us of a wait for food on ordering due to a large party being in the pub. Food was nice however tartare sauce missing from my plate and pea shoots missing from my friend’s, both of which were stated on the menu as being part of the dish. I ordered the £15 lunch menu, however was charged £15.97 for some reason, despite my drink being a tap water. Nice food and polite staff, however I wouldn’t rush back

Been here twice in the last 2 months.. I used to absolutely love going to the restaurant it was a lovely atmosphere, the staff and all round everything was spot on. One of the first time we came around start of April we turned up at 4 left at just before 7. The wait was extremely long there was a young girl who I’m not sure if she was new but just kept avoiding our table. The 2 gentleman who were on were absolutely lovely & so helpful and food was ok. Second time we’ve come weekend just gone we pulled up because it looked relatively not busy at all and because we had the kids we thought it would be more ideal. to walk in and a young lad went to seat us down to then have a women from the till shout over “have you booked” we openly said “no” to her response “no we’re fully booked can’t come in” there were roughly 3 tables full and someone at the bar .. we walked back to the car to then make a booking online and it got accepted? We rang and a higher member of staff explained it was miss communication which is totally fine and explained the circumstances. We went elsewhere anyway the women was so rude then avoided any sort of eye contact or communication after she greeted us the way she did. Weather it was a miss communication on her end she was rude & not polite to be serving front of house. My point is after reading all the comments what once was such a nice place to dine has gone down hill! It’s a shame. Can’t fault the young lad on front of house and the 2 older gentleman from last time. thanks

The hotel was really enjoyable and I could not fault my room. The staff were pleasant and friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, the food which I was served on Friday night was rubbish. I had some mushrooms in a sauce as a starter, which was cold. The main course was the pie and the steak combo with veg and roast potatoes which was the most expensive on the menu. The veg was not fresh and must have been warmed in the microwave. I chose the hotel because of the restaurant. Unfortunately, your kitchen staff have let you down. I eat out on the Saturday night at a pub only a few hundred yards away and the food was beautiful. Had the food had been good on Friday, I would have eaten there again on the Saturday.

We came for lunch today, 4 adults and 1 young child. We have been before following a lovely experience. The food was thrown together on a plate, without much attention. We ordered a plate of Haloumi...just 4 tiny slices. No salad dressing on a few bits of lettuce and 2 half's of tomato. Lovely staff, very attentive...but poor show with the food.

Arrived mid afternoon, had to wait for someone to come to reception, not a big deal but, synonymous of the general attitude to service. Was shown to a table with a menu, but no-one came to ask if we want drinks, despite my attempts to catch an eye. There is plenty of staff but they aren’t attentive, too busy chatting by the bar amongst themselves. My wife went to the bar to order them. Drinks arrived and we ordered, my sea bass was great, my wife’s lamb was mediocre with veg that was probably cooked ages ago. I tried to get someone’s attention to order another drink, no success until I managed to grab someone just coming on shift from the staff room, I tried but had to say excuse me to get him to stop. Drink arrived, empty glass wasn’t taken despite it being placed on the edge ready to go. As we discussed the lacking attention, there was a table of 8 or 10 that had finished, left and the plates and glasses were still there after maybe 30-40 mins. Kids books area really scruffy would take 30 seconds to tidy it up. Nobody came to ask if the food was ok, or if we wanted dessert. Lots of staff doing not a lot. One miserable looking young lady walked past our table about 6 times, no eye contact, no smile, pick up a glass, ask if all ok, zilch. Room was ok, breakfast was very greasy, everything fried, manager was doing 90% of the tasks, topping up juice, fetching plates after being asked. Needs someone to give them a good demonstration of how to do things properly and efficiently. Maybe a Welsh Ramsey ! Such a great venue, heaps of potential. We booked here for a Mother’s Day meal. Very unfriendly greeting when we arrived, but I let that slide. We sat and perused the menu on the table. Ordered drinks which arrived reasonably promptly. After about 40 minutes the waitress came to take our order, and informed us that there were only two roast dinners left. Nobody wanted anything else so we left. Perhaps it might have been an idea to inform us of this when we arrived? Thoroughly disappointing experience.

Great hotel in an excellent location. Stayed for 2 nights on a north Wales trip. 20 mins drive to the beach where you can see the lighthouse in the picture below . Very spacious clean room. Never had food from the hotel but looked and smelled great. Friendly staff

Great hotel, good location. Very quiet room 9 and very comfortable bed. Small but adequate shower/ bathroom. Room has steps up into the room and one step down into bathroom. May not suit everyone. Can't fault the breakfast but beware when staff say plate is hot - they are dangerously HOT. ( I've worked in catering for 12 years and eaten in many many restaurants) don't let kids anywhere near them. Had dinner there too. Food good if a little pricey. Overall I'd recommend it however staff definitely need to be a bit more switched on. Bar left unmanned at times. Service a bit slow. ( Not just me who mentioned it) . ( one woman who brought the food out was very good + very "on it")

The check in process was very easy, greeted by a lovely man. Straightforward to find our room. The room was very clean and tidy when we got there with everything we needed. My only complaint was that the mattress was hard, that however is just a personal preference. Easy check out process online and left our keys in the deposit box. Overall, a great stay!

Disgusting ...we booked in for 12 noon...we were told we were going to be shown to a table,by I presume was the manager?..but that didn't happen he disappeared after waiting for ages by the doorway,so we found our own seat...eventually someone took our order ( we chose from the lunch menu)..the garlic mushrooms were just frozen ones with a little pot of mayo (edible)...then we had chicken tenders with fries.. which came on an small side plate ..I ordered mushy peas (had to pay extra)...which arrived in a little metal pot,they were barely warm..my friend asked for them to be replaced with hot peas..but they came back the same temperature...my other friend ordered a salad as extra with her meal..(£2.99!)..a small bowl arrived..we had deserts ..which were edible(I had ice cream)..then 2 of us ordered tea..and one cappuccino(which my friend said tasted like mocha)..we couldn't drink the tea as tasted awful (god knows what make of tea bags they were)..we were given the reason for having our main meal served on side plates ..it was because it was a lunch menu..🤔...3 goujions and 9 skinny fries..unbelievable.

Myself and 2 friends went there today for lunch,we were greeted by a young man and told him we had booked a table,and he said I will take you to your table .we waited but he never came back so we picked our own as the hotel was quite empty.we sat down gave our order in we all went for the £17.99 three course meal,we waited and waitress came to tell us it would be a while because the gas cookers had broken and it would take a while.to get it working.we were all a bit confused but thought we will just go with it.our first course came out eventually we had breaded mushrooms with garlic mayonnaise,and you would not can go wrong with that,well over cooked mushrooms full of oil,then we had ordered the chicken goujons with chips nothing else no salad with it or veg so we asked could we have peas and one asked for a salad.when it came we were mortified the three plates came were small side plates and I said surely this is a child’s meal which the waitress said no that’s how big the plates are, the peas were cold I sent mine back to get another small bowl of still cold peas,bearing in mind we had paid extra.the salad consisted of lettuce and tomatoes which was over £2 in money. The food isn’t freshly cooked never in a million years.absolute disgrace.

We live locally and have been frequenting The Talardy for a number of years. The food’s lovely, service was good, dog friendly and it has a generally nice atmosphere. In recent times however, we notice a continual decline in service and general cleanliness. On our last visit in March 2025, we were a party of 4 and the service was poor and tables around us were littered with uncleared plates and glasses throughout the time we were there. Service was very slow and sloppy, with no table checks and poor attention to clearing our plates or to our needs for further drinks and dessert. It was obvious to us that the waiting staff either had no training or were poorly trained and there was a noticeable absence of supervision or management from senior staff. It is sad if this downward trend is allowed to continue to this once lovely establishment.

Booked the back area of the restaurant for a wake and had arranged for a teas and coffee station to be put up for the family and friends who had attended the funeral. This had been confirmed several times before arriving. When we got there we noticed there was no tea and coffee station but our guests had gotten themselves drinks at the bar so assumed the staff wpuod just be giving them ober the bar. Only then when we went to settle the bill to be told it was never set up so. We queried this and just got a "at least you haven't had to pay for more people"... this was confirmed multiple times on the phone and in person before the day. If you plan on having anything hosted here be prepared on being let down.

My mum had booked myself and my partner into a room this evening. They had highly recommended The Talardy and we were really looking forward to our stay. I had absolutely no idea how much we were going to enjoy it. We were greeted at reception by a very lovely lady named Lesley, she was ever so friendly and welcoming. She asked how our day was and took a genuine interest in us. She didn’t have to do that but she definitely put a smile on our faces. The check in process was so quick and easy. We asked if we could book in for dinner, she very quickly found us a a time slot. Checked it was ok for us and reserved a table. We went up to our room, room 10, when we opened the door we were amazed to see how clean and fresh the room was, it was so welcoming and we were pleasantly surprised with how large the room was. We had a small issue as there was a wire which had come out of the TV. I went downstairs, Tim came to check I was ok, I explained that there was a wire out of the TV, he instantly said he would come with me and sort out the wire. I also asked whether I could have some more decaf coffee which he went to get me. He followed me up, such a friendly gentleman, he came in and within a couple of minutes the wire was back where it was meant to be. He didn’t leave until he had checked that it worked. It’s a Saturday afternoon I imagine he was really busy, however you would have had no idea the way he dealt with us and the customer service, we felt like the most special people in the hotel. We came down to dinner, we were very quickly shown to our table, Lesley had remembered us and told Tim that we were on table five. He took us to the table and said that Benji would be over to take our drinks order. Benji was soon over and took our drinks order, service was so speedy and then he took our food order. I had ordered lasagne and had a small issue with the meal. Benji took care of this so well, he took my dinner back to the kitchen and returned not long later with a fresh plate of food. The food that we had was phenomenal to the point that I asked Benji to let the chef know how much I had enjoyed the lasagne. The service we have received from start to finish has been second to none. Thank you to everyone who we have had the pleasure to meet. You really have made our experience extra special. I will definitely be recommending The Talardy to my family and friends and the service I have received today, will stay with me for a long, long time.

Living in St Asaph I’ve heard a few rumours about new owners and staffing issues etc, I thought I’d give it the benefit of doubt and try myself, the menu was great, various choices, The service was extremely slow, it took 30 minutes to get someone’s attention to take our order, when food arrived it was lovely, however my dish the chorizo was overcooked and on my company’s dish the vegetables were missing, besides that it was very nice, We decided to order puddings after tracking someone down again to take our order, we waited 40 minutes in total to receive our puddings, All in all, the staff were lovely when you could find them, the food did taste good just a couple small issues and the service was painfully slow, Very mixed emotions about returning

I booked a double room which was large,clean and had a lovely clean,bright bathroom which included a bath. I was unsure due to it being a business trip what time we would be back to eat in the restaurant, therefore I didn't book an online slot offered which included 9 til 10.30pm. We arrived before 8 to be advised the kitchen was about to close (it was very quiet) which was a surprise as online leads you to believe the kitchen is open until 10.The staff on duty, Benji and Tim tried their best, did an excellent job in a difficult situation and are a credit to The Talardy.We left very happy overall with our stay.

Went for lunch. There were 4 staff, front of house and maybe 16 customers. Waited 30 minutes for starters to appear, which was pate and garlic mushrooms. Mushrooms were tepid! Waited another 40 minutes for main course, but decided to pay for what we'd had and left before waiting any longer. A table of 4 who were present before us were also complaining that they'd Waited too long. Most of the customers were geriatrics: i would think some of them would pass away before they got their meals! Dreadful

Stopping off for Sunday lunch on the way home seemed like a good idea, staff really friendly and helpful, until the manager/front of house came to eventually collect our plates, the trio of meat roast was a huge disappointment, we were all so hungry but the grey piece of inedible beef turned my stomach, when I mentioned it to the manager his attitude became rude and abrupt no apology or the offer to take off the price of a trio of meat being as I hadn't had that just a complete rudness as he stormed off... we not only sat for 20 mins with dirty plates in front of us he had no intention of coming back to take a desert order for the children... such a shame as we have had a decent meal there before but his whole attitude means we won't bother to return. £18 for a trio of meats that were just not up to scratch, I couldn't even cut the grey/pink sinue of beef never mind chew it. Very poor and very poor people skills to go with it! I should of took the red flag when we walked in and was told by him we couldn't order beef on its own only the trio of meat as they only had enough slices left for a trio... surley it should be up to the customer if they want to order one meat and not be conned into having the inedible trio... absolute waste of money!

Had a great night here. Will definitely be back if needing a place to stay when in the area. Food was lovely. Waiting and bar staff (That Long Island iced tea was tremendous!) were great, they really looked after us, thank you Heather, Tim, Nathan and Rhys 😊

We came to stay for two nights. Upon entering we were greeted in a very friendly manner by staff. Following booking in we went to our room, room two. It looked clean and tidy. However upon going into the bathroom it felt cold and we realised that there was no form of heating at all. Upon further inspection we saw that the window was full of condensation and the wooden frame was filthy and full of mould. We looked at the bedroom window which unfortunately was exactly the same. You couldn't actually see out of either window the condensation was that bad. Food service was extremely slow especially at breakfast. There was only a few people in but it still took over 45 minutes to serve us with an omelette and a breakfast. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelette but on arrival there was no bacon. I did not bother to mention it as I couldn't be bothered by that time. Overall the staff were very polite and they were heard to be explaining to people that they were short staffed. So overall we had a weekend away that could have been a lot better. For a company the size of Marstons, the quality could have been a lot better. Not a place we would book again

A special thank you to Sean and Nathan. We stayed for a family funeral and had food after. They were both incredibly busy but did it all with a smile. There was an issue with my daughters meal. She has Autism and she felt overwhelmed. Sean was so calm, he reassured her and even though very busy he talked her through the refund process and checked she was alright. Both him and Nathan made what was a sad occasion memorable. Service with a smile does not do them credit. Keep up the great work 👍 We would definitely visit again. Thank you both.

My issue is with Marsdens regional snd head office management. On staying here, the kitchen had not had its food order (possibly forgotten to put through!). Very limited evening meal choice and a poor quality breakfast. I had a full run down of all the failings from the "stand in" manager, who appeared to by trying his best.

Check in was very simple and I used the online option. Staff at the reception desk were informative and friendly. The room was lovely and clean and the discoloured pillow case was quickly removed and replaced. The external laundry company was informed about the pillow case. Breakfast was lovely, I chose the continental followed by the small English. The location was good as I was travelling from the East and then onto Denbigh. I did not stay in the main hotel building this time but the annex right next door was excellent. Check out was completed online and there was a keycard drop off box at the front internal doors at the annex to help speed up the process.

Very poor for a pre-ordered family Christmas lunch. First mistake was not having one of the orders, "blame the suppliers. Despite having weeks of warning. Secondly, missing allergy advice. Thirdly missing a whole meal, after two members of staff were told, they finally brought it out when others were more than halfway through. Forthly, missing allergy advice again over desserts. Although they removed the mistakes from the final bill, the incompetence ruined what should have been a pleasant family meal. Avoid.

We didn’t realise breakfast finished at 10.00 Was repeatedly told by staff we should have read the small print when we booked. Our point was it would have been nice before they started clearing away that they came and let us know. Positive note the cooked breakfast was good.

Had meals here the last five times we have visited family in the area. The last couple of times it has slipped. Ordered a pie and two sunday lunches but parts of the meals where missing, had to ask where vegetables and stuffing where. The waitress said that was how the meals came but when we challenged this and looked on a menu it clearly showed items missing so she finally brought us the right items in a small bowl . This time 14th December 2024 at 4:30pm, we ordered two signature burgers and a fish and chips. Very small portions so we went to an Aldi nearby to buy sandwiches afterwards as still hungry. The staff, service and building are all wonderful but the food side has gone down hill. Next time we visit Wales we trying somewhere else which is a shame but for the price we expect better portions.

Shocking Service ! We were a group of eight, booked for a pre-Christmas meal. Booked for 2pm. We waited about an hour for our starters - no exaggeration ! We then had to go and ask for our main courses. During this period, we had noticed some of the staff lounging against the bar and basically skiving. Fortunately for us, we had only booked 2 courses, whereas our friends had yet another long wait for their desserts. So we decided not to waste anymore of our time at the Talardy, but then, even trying to pay was an ordeal, with the member of staff seemingly unable to work out how we pay, and exclaiming out loud "this is why I hate Christmas " in front of paying customers!!!! WE CERTAINLY WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN !!!

We are staying at the Presthaven caravan park and fancied a takeaway. We found this takeaway shop. We ordered various foods, all freshly cooked by friendly staff. It was really good tasting and good value for money. If we are ever down this way again, we will definitely be back again.
