This is a little gem of a restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and the tiny restaurant is charming. That said, as it is just run by a husband and wife team, service can be a bit slow. Also, the dishes come one after the other rather than all at once. This actually added to our enjoyment, as we liked sharing each dish one at a time and we wanted a leisurely meal, but might not suit everyone.

Lovely restaurant. Small and cosy and unpretentious. Small but varied menu which is updated daily. Fantastic sashimi and monkfish amongst lots of lovely choices. Went with my daughter who loves sushi. She was very happy…as was I! Happily revisit. Would be worth booking ahead as there are not that many tables.

Myself and my two friends were shocked by the service/reception we received at Takagiya! We wanted to order some starters, then have a break and then order our main courses. The woman who took our order stated that we had to order everything all at once as there was only one chef. It was quiet at that time, so we said we would take a chance and just order our starters as we hadn't decided what we wanted for our mains. After we had eaten our starters and decided what we did want for our mains, we asked the waiter for the menu. We waited and waited, then eventually, the woman came over and asked, sweets, coffee? We told her we were waiting for the menu for mains, and she started to say, very abruptly, as I said before... !!! Her manner was patronising and rude, so we just asked for our bill. We paid and on leaving we were completely ingnored! Ive never in my life not been 'allowed' to order food in a restaurant! Won't be returning to TAKAGIYA.

We are local and had been meaning to try Takagiya for a while and are so glad we finally did. The restaurant is intimate with a calm and quiet atmosphere. The service was brilliant; incredibly friendly, helpful and always came with a big welcoming smile. The food was truly exceptional - the flavours, the freshness and the quality of the food all top notch. Standout dishes for us were definitely the salmon wasabi sashimi, the aubergine and the rib eye. Some of the best Japanese food we've had. Would 100% recommend.

I grew up in Japan and Takagiya captures Japan. The food is perfect, fun, authentic and absolutely delicious. The surroundings quintessentially Japanese, not the usual anglophiled Japanese theme park. This is a beautiful refection of the owner both inviting and comfortable. I loved it. I can't wait to return. The food was superb in every aspect I cannot fault it , the bill was also very reasonable.

Popped in here as we were staying nearby and fancied some sushi. Service and food were excellent with an extremely helpful and friendly waitress. The gyoza was cooked to perfection and served with a nice spicy dip and the signature crispy roll was very tasty and went well with the vegetable selection. Will definitely revisit before we head back home.
