Tai Won Mein Noodle House in Greenwich

We spent a week all around London, eating our way through the city. This was the best meal on our vacation. The noodles had the right texture, the food had amazing wok hei, veggies were cooked perfectly, and the price was good. Atmosphere? Don't expect dark wood or sticky floor. Very come-as-you-are, and be greeted warmly. We'll be back!

Absolutely awful, I have been eating here for a number of years with my partner and as a whole, I’ve probably spent thousands of pound here, never the less I’ll never eat here again! We ordered our food and what arrived to the table was incorrect, a genuine and harmless mistake. However when I called over the server I get a hell of a lot of attitude! And I was told “thats what you ordered, so you have to pay” when o threatened to leave they corrected my order. 30 minutes later the correct meal arrived and was stone cold, the rice was at least 3 days old as it was in clumps. To save my partners embarrassment I paid for the meal and left. This used to a be lovely place to eat but now it’s just hugely inflated prices with very little ingredients. I would give zero stars if I could.

Note this restaurant accepts cash only. Generous portion - good value for money. Definitely one of the cheapest I’ve seen in London. Clean and bright inside, with friendly and fast-paced service. Food had clean and simple flavours, which I enjoyed. Will definitely be back.

Food is pretty average. Won ton soup is very good. Noodles are ok. Meat in the noodle dish was completely inedible. There are far better places in the area for a meal.

Guys the food here is really really poor. It's actually terrible. If you are unfortunate enough to eat here I'm almost certain you'll think any take away is better. If you actually enjoy it then the odds are you don't really know what chinese food actually tastes like. Never returning its bloody awful.

They make a really nice vermicelli with seafood, but I was disappointed in the black bean sauce, was very watery and hardly any bean in it. Won’t be ordering black bean sauce in the future.

An historic establishment steeped in tradition. I recommend the duck vermicelli noodle soup, Prawn fried rice, and chicken and black bean ho fun noodle. Don't bother with the egg noodle, or the tai won special.

Food lacks slight flavour as you’d get from authentic Chinese. Also does not serve with any sauce. Had to ask few time to get chili oil instead. Cash only aswell

Went here with my friends today, reasonably priced considering portion size although I would recommend sharing if you get the Vermicelli. The Fried Shrimp was probably the best thing I’ve eaten for a while. Overall, very nice food and I had a very nice experience, I would definetly order again.

Portions are generous. That's about where the good stuff ends sadly. The chicken I got looked like it was precooked before they bought it. Rubbery and tasteless. The food was bland, and extremely oily. Genuinely feel a bit unwell after having eaten it. Definitely the cheapest ingredients available are used, I hope they fix this in the future, I'll be in no rush to return

Been going to this place for a long time but recently quality has dropped a lot! Increased prices and less ingredients, ordered noodles and rice, there's like 5 small thinly sliced meat, before they gave a lot more. Tai Won Mein no hace promesas que no pueda cumplir. El personal es uno de los más divertidos, descarados y agradables que he experimentado en Londres. Son resistentes, eficaces y tienen un tipo de amor que comparten con las hordas de personas que pasan por sus puertas todos los días. El menú es extenso, aunque las grandes fotografías en color en los platos en la pared están allí para ayudarle a estrechar y elegir su principal favorito. Los fideos fritos con pato era maravilloso - un montón de salsa cubierta de grasa y sabor de pato - £ 10. El pollo agridulce en arroz era solo eso - £ 10. Y – Pide las albóndigas de pollo – A £ 6 son como otro plato principal barato – Excepcional. También tuvimos Ho Fun y verduras mixtas junto con la lata de cerveza Sapporo, japonesa, pero una de las mejores cervezas enlatadas disponibles en el Reino Unido. En resumen, Tai Won Mein es un gran hallazgo y una delicia para probar: valor, servicio, calidad de la comida y sabor chino. Decent food, decent portion. Was crowded on this day with some really lousy customers and no one to tell them to lower their voices, as they pissed a lot of people off. Decent place though. Will come back on a quiet day 🤣👌🏾

Literally the worst Chinese food I’ve tasted I felt like throwing out the food it was that disgusting with lot of gravy . I don’t wanna even give my dog this food tastes awful definitely not coming back or wouldn’t recommend anyone .

You get what you pay for here. It’s cheap and the food tastes it. I will say the service was fast and the portions were huge, so it could fill a hole if that’s what you need. Even the coke they served us was flat

This place was great, the food was tasty, the portions were huge and great value. My daughter left her jumper there and we popped back in the morning. They still had the jumper and put it in a safe place for us.

Toilets go up a spiral staircase, cleanliness is okay, food was okay, lots of pasta from the box but little meat (had pasta, duck and pork in soup). Quality and quantity were rather poor, I had also ordered a drink (Cola) which was not brought to the table, but in the end was supposed to be charged until I objected. By the way, there were very few guests. Staff guest: 1:2, and service still not provided. Simply embarrassing!! Oh, by the way, card payments are also not possible and this is simply embarrassing in the UK, where there are hardly any ATMs anymore. I'd rather not go here anymore!!!

Amazing food with really good portion sizes for a good price. A favourite for decades as never changes and is always reliable. Food comes quickly and is served nicely. Staff are good. Can always get a table. Cash only!

Have visited this place for at least 8 years - and for a few of those years it was every week! It is my 'go-to' restaurant. The food is ALWAYS good, always made fresh to order, and they try to accommodate allergies/requests. Service and food are fast - there's no waiting for someone to take your order. Staff are friendly, the meals are enormous, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Some of my favourite meals are their curries (especially chicken, though the veggie is not at all bad), and I love their mini veggie spring rolls. The only downside to this place is you have to pay 50p for a container to take home the inevitable leftovers. When I know ahead of time that I'm going there, I take my own reusable ones. Better for the planet... I love this place so much that I would be devastated if they ever closed down as I rate them the highest out of all of the Chinese restaurants I've been to in London - and that includes all of those in Chinatown too!

They are cash only so you must bring cash. The sizes were massive and good for the price. The stir fried vegetables, ho fun chicken noodles, deep fried squid and spring rolls were delicious. The service is very quick, wasn't the biggest fan of the bench chairs but they were okay. However, in my stir fried vegetable, I asked for eggs and I also found a large shell in my food! My friend didn't let me state this to them because I was quite upset by this and I know that one of the male waiters saw this as he took our plates. Also note that their broth, regardless of if it's a veggie one will have meat in it.

I had a fantastic dining experience! The food was delicious, with portions so generous that they’re perfect for sharing. The staff's friendliness and attentive service, made the meal even more enjoyable. The restaurant was also very clean, and we didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive. I ordered a seafood vermicelli stir fried noodles. As I'm allergic to meat, I found pieces of bacon in it. When challenged the server, she quickly took the plate of me before I could take a picture. She even said that they cannot guarantee that there wont be a mixture of meat, veg or seafood pieces in the meal. She also confirmed that they are all prepared in the same wok without washing. Whereby i asked the person taking my order if they are cooked separately, i was told yes. That couple of forks I ate did give me a reaction hence I do not recommend this place at all if ever there's any ingredients that will cause you harm. Unfortunately if I could, I wouldn't even give one star. Very very unhygienic place.

The king prawn chow main they served me was very hard, the noodle was not cooked, when I told one of the staff they argued that the noodle was meant to be hard! This is one dish I always order at Chinese restaurants for many years and I have never ate one that was this hard, the spare ribs was so salty I couldn’t eat it. It’s a cheap place with tasteless food, the drinks was warm, they put like two small tiny ice cubes inside. I also thought I saw a rat run pass. Will not recommend.

I recently tried the King Prawn Fried Noodles at Tai Won Mein, and they were fantastic. The prawns were perfectly cooked and juicy, and the noodles had a great texture and flavor. The dish was well-seasoned and had a nice balance of spices. The fresh vegetables added a nice crunch. Overall, a delicious and satisfying meal in a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff. Rudest staff ever! We were greeted with grumpy can’t be bothered attitude. We sat down with the menus practically thrown at us. Looked at menu and realised we didn’t have enough cash for what we wanted. Glad we didn’t order after reading reviews. All it takes is a hello with a smile such a shame.

I’ve been coming here for over 15 years and it is my absolute favourite Chinese restaurant in the UK so much so that we travel over two hours to eat here. Their sweet and sour is fantastic, hearty portions, great taste and amazingly good value. I hope to be able to visit for another 15 years plus whenever I’m in London.

The portion size were very generous however the quality of the food is very poor. The seafood specifically was very overcooked and the noodles were extremely chewy and obviously of poor quality. The service is very poor, the staff need to adjust their attitudes.

Atmosphere were really good but we were disappointed with the noodle soup we ordered and also the staff service ,the noodle soup was pretty bland ,and we couldn't enjoy it ,and the staff seems rude , which make it really awkward,and we woudn't recommend this to anyone ! The portion is very big. The fried rice and fried noodles are full of wok gas and are very fragrant. You can skip the other smaller fried items which have no flavor.

Dropped in on the journey home....good choices on the menu, portion sizes really good. A preference for the noodle plus meat. Cash only. Plenty of seating( max50 I think). Very popular but no booking. Most people order, eat and go. 30 min stay tops.

Very tasty food, but a long wait for the bill

Portions are MASSIVE so this is a great budget spot for me and my uni friends as we tend to share one between two. The food has always been lovely any time that I’ve been. The servers can be quite abrupt and rude. It is not somewhere that you feel you can linger - they kind of want you in and out asap and will come and collect your dishes as soon as you’re done. My boyfriend and I went here for a date once and the food was great but we were probably in and out in 30 minutes which wasn’t really the aim of the exercise! Decor/atmosphere is not very glamorous but I’m attached to it in my own way. They have picnic bench style tables which are good for a big group of uni friends for someone’s birthday etc, but again not very glamorous. Tap water is free and very readily available which I like - you don’t feel too pressured to buy or judged if you share one between two etc. In summary I think this is a brilliant restaurant for young people who are perhaps on a budget with delicious food, but I probably wouldn’t bring my parents here for a fancy dinner. I would also recommend it to no-frills foodies who are looking to enjoy some good food at a reasonable price. I’d also like to add as a Greenwich local that the price for the location (right beside the cutty sark) is brilliant, as a lot of pubs/restaurants in Greenwich massively overcharge for location, and my friends and I end up having to go to Deptford for more affordable food. It also seems clear that this is a small family run business which is such a nice change from all the chain restaurants that take over Greenwich town centre, and I’d like to see it keep going for many years to come.

No seasoning. Food is fresh and uses quality ingredients, but there's no salt in any of it. Rice is fresh but again plain and you're hard pressed for a scrap of egg. Even if you ask for chillies, they're curiously dull and lifeless, no heat in them at all. The soya sauce helps to some degree but that's just asking for your kidneys to ache in the morning.

My favourite Noodle place in London. Cheap, cheerful and a great selection. The whole family were satisfied.

Haven’t been here for a very long time but nothing has changed at all which is a good thing. I ordered special chow mein, chicken wings and fruit juice and it was all lovely. Only the juice being warm was the letdown. The service as usual was iffy at best but you get what you pay for and the price is very low.

I don't often come to this restaurant, but their noodles tempted me to come again, it always tastes so good. When am in the area I do try and visit when I can. However today I was disappointed. The pork l ordered had a hair inside it. I didn't see it until I nearly finished the meal. When I called the staff to bring it to their attention their attitude was very bad. The gave me a sour look with the response that since I have almost finished the food they can not refund me. I will not come back to this establishment again.

Every time I visit London I stop by Tai Won Mein. The quality has not dropped for several years. The portions are very filling, always fresh and delicious. And the prices are absolutely not London :)

Used to be a very lovely place to eat unfortunately not anymore. Ordered the duck and pork fried rice but there was barely any meat on it, had to pay extra. Will not be returning!

I went here yesterday evening (Friday 22nd March) with an old school friend. It was my first time, but certainly not my last. We didn't have to wait for a table. The service was very quick. I ordered roast pork and duck with egg fried rice. It was delicious. And a very big portion. The staff were friendly. I had a laugh with one of the men about chilli oil 😂. The toilets were clean too. I will definitely be returning. Thank you. 👍

Large portions and quite good food, as evidenced by the presence of more than just tourists. The downside is that you can only pay in cash and the toilet does not meet basic hygiene standards.

Been here on several occasions, popped in on the 7th September, the food is fresh and reasonably priced, staff are friendly enough, I would recommend going here. They cater for all. Some people may be put off that it’s cash only, but there’s a cash point nearby. There’s no car park.

I visited this place today and i usually get a Singapore fried rice. The waiter who attended to me was being a bit sarcastic when i requested for extra prawns(paid for) and water in a bottle. When my food came i chewed on one of the prawns and immediately felt like someone had phlegmed on it i could not continue eating it so i just paid and left as i didnt want to cause a scene. I will not be returning back to this place and i will also be contacting the food inspection enforcement. I felt really sick for the rest of the day cause i kept replaying it in my head

Excellent value for money, excellent portion size, honestly it was the best Fried noodle dish I have ever had. Service was friendly and speedy, all around an excellent place. Definitely stop by if you're in the Greenwich area

Well...taste is brilliant but the way these servers treat you is unacceptable. We ordered noodles and king prawas soup. We wanted to have extra bowl and spoon but the staff literally ignored and never came back. Also, wince last 5 years they are only accepting cash. Something fishy? Transferring all money without paying any tax? 😒

Our order came out wrong so wasn't a great impression at first. I had king prawns in satay sauce and rice. It was more like a prawn curry, couldn't taste any satay. No smile on the service point, nobody asked how our meal was or if we needed anything else. Very dull atmosphere and didn't feel too welcoming.

My sweet and sour chicken with rice wwas so bad, I was craving it for days and then came here to have some but it tasted very vinegary, hard to enjoy :( The rice tasted old and “bottom of the pan” type.

After years of driving past this place I thought I'd pop in with my wife. To cut a long story short - It's cash only (of course it is) and the prices are very reasonable. The portions a big, HOWEVER I couldn't taste any sort of flavour in my food it got to the point where I had to imagine the flavour to make it easier to eat - They forgot to add the small print on the menu "We are cheap as we don't add flavour to our food" Good for the local students I suppose who live off cans of beans daily. To summarise I won't be attending again and my Mrs won't let it down that I took her to this place.

Tai Won Mein at Cutty Sark offered a dining experience that brought nostalgia for Chinese flavors from back home in India. However, the taste, influenced by the authentic nature of the restaurant, didn't match the spiciness of the fusion Chinese cuisine familiar to us. The real letdown, though, was the service, which fell short of expectations, coupled with cleanliness concerns. It's worth noting that while the taste was a matter of preference, improvements in service and cleanliness would elevate the overall dining experience.

Can I put minus star somehow?! I will be honest, I used to eat there because was a non expensive option and the portion was as well enough big even for a man! The staff is almost always rude and in a bad mood ,making the indoor experience awkward! Once after finishing my meal, I left without using the loo . I went back to the restaurant, and they almost kicked me out because they said I was not a costumer , funny isn't?! cause I was there 4 minutes ago, it is almost impossible to be forgotten so quickly! Last but not least at all! My last meal was a chicken fried noodles takeaway. I took it all the way back at home. I started eating, and I found on my mouth and after on my plate peaces of a cockroach. 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Prawns in tempura were really good, however the soup was like boiled water with seafood thrown in after, and the sweet & sauer chicken was less than average. The staff should also advise tourists better like we ordered extra rice as a side but it was an extra large bowl portion - too much for kids and it got wasted pretty much (6GBP price for it should hint us tho as well, but the staff should recommend & advice on portion size)

Pros... Big portions and friendly staff also not too busy on a Saturday night but after the cons I'm about to list I'm not too surprised. Cons.... Chow mein was too oily for my taste also found it to be very bland 👎🏾 the gyozas also wasn't the best. The king prawn in black bean sauce seems like it was frozen but other than that it was ok. 5/10. Don't think i will come again. Just came as a last minute thing.
