Four of us went for lunch at Tai Pan as it was in a convenient location for us while in Liverpool and we like Chinese food. I read mixed reviews here on Tripadvisor before visiting which was a little off putting, but please don't be, we had an excellent experience. We were given attentive service, the meal was served relatively quickly and the food was perfect! The menu was extensive with many items you would expect to see there and a great choice of dim sum. It was also reassuring to see how popular it was on a Wednesday lunchtime. I write as a Brit who has travelled the world for five decades and visited eleven cities in China. I would definitely recommend to friends. Xiexie Tai Pan!

This used to be our go to chinese restaurant but omg how bad its gone is untrue. Came here last week and ordered exec business lunch witt extra salt and pepper chicken wings and some sui mais. Starter platter come out and this is were it started, ribs must have come off a pig that been on a diet coz there was no meat on them, springs rolls looked they had been cooked aba 3 times and the seaweed was like eating a hubba bubba chewy. We managed to chew through these and then the sui mais and salt and pepper sloppy wings come out. Tai pan used to have the best sui mais around but these were hard around the outside, we had one of these each and left the rest, then we tried the chicken wings and they were so sloppy and were covered in grease, tai pan chicken wings used to be so crispy. Young waiter collected some plates so we asked him if there was a new chef as the food was different to what we have had before and we had been so many times, he said no, hmmm wasnt too convincing like. Anyway still had some drink left so waited for mains as we said it couldnt get much worse and how wrong were we. 2 x sweet and sour pork came out with fried rice but should have been called sweet and sour blobs of fat coz there was no meat in the batter just fat and even the sauce was tasteless. The fried rice used to be yellow but this time it was brown in colour so we smelt it and it was burnt or at least the eggs were. 1 singapore vermicelli come out and it was like someone had got a bail of straw from the shop downstairs and put it on the plate with a couple of bland prawns and a load of chillis on there, probably to try and mask how bland it was. Went over the counter to complain and the cocky fella come over to see what we had left rather than to taste it etc, which was all the mains, some of the chicken wings and some of sui mais. Went over the counter to pay for what we had eaten and the drinks and he tied to charge for chicken wings so we said we only had a bite of one each and left the rest which was took away by waiter so he started laughing so I said Im not paying for them. Had better meals from local chippies and well better service aswell

Enjoyed another meal here with family. Have been coming here for decades on and off and have usually had very good meals so I do feel that some of the negative reviews are somewhat harsh. (We’ve also never been unwell afterwards). On this occasion almost all the food was excellent. The snacks and ribs were great and the pork chow mein was the standout dish. Only criticisms were sweet and sour sauce was a little thin and one waiter was rather surly. However our waitresses were lovely and very helpful.

Very mediocre food - overpriced and quality wasn't great. No kids menu either so don't even bother if you have fussy children. If your kids aren't fussy, then they'll still have to order from the main menu and pay for an adult portion. Service is non-existent..had to constantly try to catch their attention to order and out of all the staff present there, not a single smile was to be seen at any point during our visit. Also completely ignored us when we were leaving (they weren't busy, just standing around)..a thank you and a smile would have made us consider giving them a second chance but their nonchalant attitude has put us off. Probably best to try other restaurants that genuinely care about each and every customer and not just the regulars or those who can speak the same language.

Unfortunately the food portions and quality have declined in the last 5 months. For many years the food has been consistently good and prepared and portioned consistently. Over the past 5 months I've eaten here 4/5 times and found the portions smaller, dim sum items made smaller and not served fresh. On this visit they looked refried and unappetising. Mixed meats served off the bone and without rice was always enough to feed 4 people and would be hot and fresh, but this visit the portion looked half the size and the crispy pork wasn't crispy, there were 2 small slices of duck in the top and no sauce or juice. I used to pay between £60-80 for the family but on this visit it cost me £94+ tip -£100! Please fix this, we want you to prosper!

The smelly carpet; it was disgusting. This caught my nostril when I entered the restaurant. It was Sunday afternoon at 3pm, and the place was packed ....., with local indigenous diners. I guess these folks have never tasted the proper real Chinese food in their whole life. I recommend they fly to Hong Kong for the real experience of good five star food. The Dim Sums they served was tasteless joke. The price they charged me, I could have bought a whole fridge load from ASDA, and it tastes better. Rip off is my conclusion. One Star only for Service.

Been eating at Taipan for years and food has always been of a good standard. Have to be honest though the last 3 times we've been the service has gotten progressively worse. Food brought to table in dribs and drabs by staff who have zero interest in engaging with customers or even smiling when thanked ( for every element of their service !!) Like I started the review the food was fine as always but we won't be going back due to the poor standard of customer service. A lick of paint and a new carpet wouldn't go a miss either !!

Standards have dropped but price went up. Tai pan used to be the go-to Chinese dine-in experience in Liverpool. Not anymore. Standards have fallen drastically. The bao you get is hard and small - signs of frozen goods. Likewise with the siu mai - there's a detectable smell from the meat. Save your money and look elsewhere. The Tai Pan of yesteryear is no more.

The dim sum is ready to order, steamed and fried, the fried wontons £6.6 have huge shrimps, which I haven’t seen in Hong Kong; the scallop dumplings £6.6 have large scallops, are flavorful, and heavy with shrimps; the siomai £6.4 have no fat, which I prefer , also heavy on shrimp meat; cuttlefish balls £6.4 are a bit unpalatable with the smell of cuttlefish; beef sausage £6.4 is the most ordinary of them all, although they are all ok and delicious. The sisters and brothers you greet are polite, including local white brothers and black sisters! However, I think the price is a bit expensive, but there is a Chinese Super League underground, so I kill two birds with one stone, so I took a shower and drove there to buy it for the second time! 🙇🏻‍♂️🙏🏻

A much loved restaurant, particularly with the local Chinese community. With this restaurant having been closed fairly recently I expected to see it refreshed but was disappointed to find the carpet is still filthy and the furnishings tired. We both ordered minced chicken and sweetcorn soup - the portion was ample but the taste was a little metallic. My main course of duck in a pineapple and ginger sauce was far from the zingy treat I was expecting- very under seasoned. My husbands sweet and sour pork was overcooked and tough whilst the sauce tasted strongly of tomato ketchup.

Starters tasted like it came out of a packet. Didn’t seem like they were made on site. The mains were okay. Also my friend almost swallowed plastic which was fried in with the food. When this was highlighted the staff just went “okay cool”. We were not expecting anything in return but at least acknowledge the error would have been polite. Not to mention our food took a very long time (despite having barely any customers). Most of the staff were nice however there was a lady who should not be interacting with customers. She came across quite rude- almost like she hated her job (possibly a bad day) but that shouldn’t be transferred with how she speaks to customers. Given the reviews I thought it would be a very good place to eat- maybe I went there on a bad day but definitely won’t be returning.

I remember this being the go to restaurant for family celebrations as kids. Not much has changed. Relaxed and casual, we were not out of place in jeans and hoodies on a Sunday afternoon. I think Friday and Saturday evenings would be a little more dressy. The food selection is good with plenty of choices for vegetarians. We all enjoyed our meals. My only point would be that the service seemed a little cold and rushed at times. Otherwise all good. A massive free carpark and huge supermarket below are also a bonus.

Food came at all different times which was just put down randomly on the table, kids waited 1,30hr for a plate of chips and noodles, they were bored waiting. Food was average not restaurant quality won’t be returning and been coming since I was a kid myself. Decor needs updating been that way last 20+ years ripped chairs cheap dragons on the wall. Wow this was an absolutely awful experience!! Not only was our food disgusting - starting with the sui mais - hard around the outside and chewy . Then the half perking duck was £32.00 ( starter ) it was so dry and flavorless ! The main course we ordered crispy chilli beef which was that crispy it almost took my teeth out - with hardly any beef in it just crispy fat ! Then they forgot my partners main course and rice absolute disaster! And to top it off the waiter - in casual clothes so obviously a manager ( small guy / glasses . He was the rudest waiter I have ever come across - laughing when we were trying to order and smirking / sharp with questions and had a really cocky presence .we had to get up and pay the bill and there was a massive ray of people trying to order takeaways / pay their bill so the rude manger was shouting at the till making remarks because we were trying to work out each others total as we were a big family . The main thing it has going for it is the variety of Dim Sum which you can't really get anywhere else nearby, but the mains are all £13+ each without rice, tiny portions (especially meat) and average quality. Everything was just very bland apart from the duck in Plum Sauce - again completely carried by the sauce. Beef in Black Bean Sauce - again £13+ and probably 10 small pieces of beef Just get takaway from a decent chippy and save yourself £40 for exactly the same meal.

Pretty average Chinese food, reasonably priced. Really busy on a Saturday evening.

Always great food and service. Judging by the amount of Chinese diners, the food must be authentic and of great quality.

After a LONG interval (with covid intervening) two of us went for lunch yesterday and had the set menu. Massive serving bowl of chicken and sweet corn soup. Plate of starters including salt and pepper ribs, "seaweed", and spring rolls was red hot when served. Mains of beef Cantonese and Peking chicken with spring onion were served with boiled AND fried rice meaning we left stuffed! Sunday lunch is amazing! A never ending stream of different Dim Sum brought to your table .. AND the full range of their usual menu is on tap too! A must as often as possible.

Been going here for years. When it was the old management ...not been since it reopened end of August 2023. Hoping the restaurant has improved...no doubt meals will be more expensive due to reopening......will give my star rating later.

This restaurant is my regular and has been a wonderful venue for all functions. The location is good, the parking is good, the shopping below is convenient and well stocked. The food is very good and there is plenty of variety. Staff. Honestly, they work hard, and as with most businesses, limited to staff depending on the time you go. But not too long a wait on food. Dim Sum, small tapas style selection is good, and the main menu is traditional Western style, but they also have the Proper Chinese menu as well. It's not a dressed over the top oriental style design, It's clean and has a cosy feel. Windows all round to let plenty of light in but not too bright.

Has made a come back since closing for whatever reason. Would like them to introduce the dim carts to make the experience of Sunday dim sum what it use to be.

Usually very good but noodles didn't taste great this time and noticed more of an increase in onion in dishes and less meat each time yet the prices are going up. Struggle to see where good value is here now. Also we asked for no onion due to allergy yet still put onion in. Please listen to allergy instructions when ordering as it could have made me sick if I hadn't have picked them all out one by one. A quarter of the container was just onion. **For coeliacs reading this.... They do not cater for gluten free or Coeliac safe*" Sorry it wasn't a more glowing experience but hope if we give you a try next time it will be better.

Fry up plus salt and pepper chicken, chow mein with a fried egg. Your options are endless, very quick and friendly service. Get the spring rolls, don't look back.

This chippy is really below par these days. I've been going chans for over 30 years. When Alan was there it was always spot on. Uoto about a year after he left the standard was still good but not no more unfortunately. Can't even get chips and curry sauce right
