I’m so sorry to write this review a single mother with 3 kids enjoy the Nhs Doscount a BBC Sunday afternoon I booked here as it’s limited on a Sunday afternoon I’m gutted to say they hadn’t prepared for my daughter 14th birthday nothing was available on menu when I politely complained o was told they had shortage in delivery etc well I’m sorry but this is my bit my fault I booked days in advance when me and my party arrived hardly nothing was available the main manger sat at her laptop and never helped the front of house house staff was nice but looking for excuses I’m gutted I like this place cheap kid friendly place but no there was nothing offered when they clearly mucked up DISAPPOINTED to say the least

Absolutely not great…we were waiting for a while…about half an hour…the lady sitting next to us had already been waiting I don’t know for how long…only to be told after a long wait they the food she had ordered was not available…(I really felt got her)…food was not heated up properly either…l…

This isn't a really in depth review, since I visited this restaurant one night to have a drink with friends, and maybe a little bite to eat. I'll be honest, the drinks and food menu is great, but on this occasion I ordered just Nachos, since I had been to another Marston's restaurant a week or two before and really enjoyed the Nachos there. Unfortunately, the Nachos at The Phoenix were disappointingly different. The photo I've included in my review has two photos of the same meal, but ordered in two different Marston's restaurants. The top one was ordered about two weeks before the bottom one. I'll be honest, if this is how inconsistent the food is at different restaurants run by the same company, I must say I've lost a bit of confidence in Marston's, especially Tafarn Y Phoenix. I then ordered a chocolate dessert because I know that Marston's usually serve great Sundaes, and this time was once again, quite disappointing. It tasted great of course, but I'm sure they don't usually serve them in these tall glasses. Great place for a drink with mates, I was just shocked by how bad the Nachos were, especially since I was hoping for something I know could have been a lot better, that's all.

Food took 45 minutes, no warning was given when we ordered. Food was very over cooked, my husbands burger was burnt black, he returned it for a full refund. Very disappointed

Lovely people run this place. The landlady and her daughter were really helpful and accommodating when our daughter had to temporarily leave after her food was ordered. Fantastic service.

The staff were very nice and friendly. The place is nice. The menu was disappointing, really. Quite basic choices, which is a shame. I was hoping it was a gastro pub. I chose chips and steak pie, which was very, very small and a little overcooked.

It was a very enjoyable visit. The atmosphere is good and relaxing and the food was excellent.

The people here were very friendly and helpful when I booked our table for 12, the atmosphere was lovely and we felt very comfortable. We settled down with drinks and had our food brought to us just perfectly. The food was delicious, everyone was very happy with our main courses and deserts. The landlady actually came and got our list so we didn't even have to order at the bar and noticed we didn't have enough deserts noted there, our fault! Altogether we really enjoyed our food and the whole experience was great, many thanks!

One of the worst places I've ever eaten. The staff were lovely but the food and toilets were awful. Chicken wings arrived cold in the middle, sent them back and they were changed. Main meal was hot but lacking flavour and very dry. Much of the menu was out of stock. Drink service was very slow. One of the female toilets was smeared all over with something I'd rather not think about.

What a safe place to have food. If you have any worries regarding COVID and feel the need to get out then Tafarn YPhoenix is the place to go. And the food was nice too. Excellent team that explain exactly what you need to do. We will be back for sure

Sunday lunch and it was awful ,never again , couldn’t have roast chicken as not on menu that day so had pre-packed beef which was tasteless the mash was cold the roast potatoes where hard the only thing I enjoyed was the Yorkshire pudding

About 4 items on the app weren't available which we didn't know until going to checkout. Drinks weren't served until after food was given and that was because I had to ask where they were. Was only two other tables at the time so wasn't busy.

It was a pity you couldn't cancel our order so we could use the voucher. I hadn't realised my partner was paying on order. It was just seconds after ordering that we asked ! That was partly the reason we thought to try this place ( combined with a visit to Leekes). However my thoughts on the food etc.are unrelated to the price we paid. At best the food was OK , average. We have had Sunday lunch at other establishments in the area which were much better and where we would therefore return. Portion size of meat and veg could have been better. The Yorkshire was dire ( flat and soggy), the food was lukewarm. Fairly tasty but as I say , just ok and we have had much better. Maybe your other meals are better, I don't know but we won't be back to take the chance in afraid

I am a support worker who takes the individuals to the Phoenix weekly. The staff are extremely accommodating and helpful. Really understanding and welcoming. Definitely recommend!!

Lovely venue, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food selection is good and the price is fair. You don't need to wait too long to be served and the food has been lovely on the three occasions I've visited. There's offers available and Quiz evenings on a Wednesday.

This was our second visit. There were a few issues with our food the first time we visited but as all of us were travelling from different locations which are over an hour away we decided to try the place again. In fairness we were impressed with everything from the service to the delicious food that was cooked beautifully. As a consequence we’ll definitely return. We meet as a group of three or four every 6 weeks or so. We’re pleased we’ve found somewhere that’s central to us all we can meet at. It wasn’t too busy yesterday so we were there chatting away over lunch for three hours and it was really comfortable. Food and drinks were quickly delivered to the table. There had been a difficulty with payment being taken on our first visit so we made sure that was settled. There was also a 30% off meals offer on so the overall cost was excellent.

First time visiting since new management took over. Very impressed, great food, good value, lovely atmosphere and excellent customer service.

Great, but I was served a pint which I hadn't asked for. The waiter removed it without any problem, however.

It was our first time eating out here today, I had aged sirloin steak with beef dripping and merlot sauce and my better half had spicy burger.. The service was excellent and food was quick to the table, my steak was out of this world!!! It was soooo tasty.. well done Tafarn y phoenix it's a defo 5 star from me!!

Also first time since new management, 9 of us went, had a variety of meals and everyone happy, I had mixed grill and for £15 it was good , what I’d expect for that price , chicken was juice , steak cooked well , yea good only disappointed was egg over cooked , but for the price can’t complain had many worse meals in this price range

We called here, had our dog so we were asked to sit in a corner no problems. But as we sat a load of men came the same time and had obviously been drinking, no problems there. Buf a few of them were really load and swearing quite a lot. So we opted to sit outside. It was lovely and sunny so was fine. Would definitely go again.

Gone up in my opinion. Far better than it used to be. But still need to buy in more desserts. Third being there and desert I ordered had sold out 😄

Had a table booked on Halloween for our anniversary . Lots of kids , very busy but the staff worked their socks off to accommodate us and kept every area very clean . We had steak and mixed grill. Food was cooked to perfection and gave us a nice corner table for our special night

First time in about 8 years since I've been here. It used to be buying 1 get 1 free on the next visit after a complaint to Brains HQ. What a turn around it's now a great place to eat again.

We were very disappointed with our recent visit to Tafarn and Phoenix. early on Monday with friends. On arrival, I was informed of what wasn’t available to order on the menu. No fish, lasagna, mixed grill, or hotdogs; understand if it was late in the evening and was busy. My husband ordered steak, but it was awful quality; he couldn’t eat it, and the chicken and mushroom pie had no filling. We waited 3 quarters of an hour after food for our table to be cleared and dessert to arrive. I tried to order two coffees with milk and a latte and was told they had no milk!! 😳 Just across the road, there is a Nisa shop; surely it would have taken a member of staff 10 minutes to buy a bottle of milk?? I won’t be returning anytime soon 😔

First time here after it being under new management and what amazing improvements, very friendly staff, quick service and the food was amazing. Was very busy but a very good atmosphere, was expecting to have to wait ages for our food but food was served very promptly. Looking forward to going again, anyone who was put off by past experience there should really reconsider giving it another go, highly recommend.

Quite a long wait for food but they were extremely busy so do understand. Food was good

Booked for 2, however 2 friends wanted to join us you could not facilitate due to only having 1 chef. Over 9 tables stayed empty. Our food was quick greasy a overcooked. My breaded mushrooms where filled with oil. Mozorella cheese starter cold. Two different burger meals where overcooked rubbery and tasteless. Staff apologised as they had time to constantly check how we were so why couldn't our friends eat? Drinks where good, nice pint cider and larger, can't get these wrong though can you.

No milk to make coffee and the kitchen was closed for 30 minutes so we left.

Sunday Roasts are terrible - Gravy is like water, mash potato is powered mix.

Food was awful me and my partner both had fish, was so greasy, definitely wasn't Cod, cheap chips, dried up mushy peas, were both I'll when we got home, tables were sticky, Expensive for a greasy spoon, definitely won't return or recommend, no one comes to ask if food is OK, not a well run establishment, no organisation what so ever

We had a nice dinner last night and wanted to order dessert at 8.30pm to be told the kitchen was closed. When we paid we were told kitchen was open and could have ordered dessert!! There was lack of staff communication unfortunately so we were disappointed and needed our evening early

Good menu. The food was well presented and the quality was excellent. I had a thick gammon steak with egg and pineapple a portion of chips and peas. The gammon was moist and succulent very enjoyable.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Toilets are always clean. Food always tasty and hot. Always excellent customer service. X

My order of rump steak was cooked to perfection. Both my mam and toddler niece enjoyed their food too. The only thing which left my birthday dinner down was that after reserving a table (provided by pub not requested) we were disrupted by locals wanting to sit where they always sat when they visited in this particular window which meant myself and my niece having to both move from my seat and also manually move a chair to let them sit in this particular table which one of them said we always sit here when the pub was virtually empty. Can't fault the food, if I was to visit again I would pick a different time.

Good points: Staff are pleasant and service at the bar is quick. Bad points are: Everything is sticky, the tables, the menu are just sticky and could do with a good wipe down. In an ideal world, there would be better vegan options on the menu.

Great place for pub grub and a catch up with a friend. Food is always cooked lovely. The service was really attentive and friendly. Nice and clean. There is parking however, the car park was full when we got there but there was parking nearby so it wasn't an issue. In a great spot too, not to far from cross hands roundabout so it's handy.

We booked a table for 6pm when we arrived we were given a table by the fireplace but because it didn’t have reserved it was taken by someone else while we ordering our meal and drinks We both enjoyed our meal and drinks

Went yesterday the food was lovely service was great let's hope it stays this way because since the refurbishment and change of management it would be nice to see this public house succeed keep the good work up

Took my daughter out for a mid week meal, the food was great we ordered sausage and mash and hunters chicken we also had sides of garlic bread and onion rings all was delicious, staff were all superb and really friendly it was busy but not overcrowded and the atmosphere was lovely, there is ample parking on site and it was wheelchair friendly will definitely return.

Seems a very popular pub. Food was great and staff always very helpful. We booked to have a girlie catch up, not realising there was a quiz on. We were asked if we wanted to take part but declined. We should have taken part as found it difficult to chat properly during the quiz. That was no fault of the pub. It’s just we happened to choose a night when there is one

My table for 12 was catered for wonderfully. Bar and serving staff were polite, ensuring we had an enjoyable evening. Definitely a lovely experience enjoyed by us all. Compliments to the chef and a big thank you to the service staff.

Service was good and food was served in good time. The food was not brilliant, order 1 rump steak and was over cooked on outside. The sirloin was difficult to cut and was very chewy. Also order a chicken korma which had a bit it kick to it.

Have never had a bad meal here. Food is always excellent. Well presented and tasty. Staff,although always busy are courteous and friendly. The restaurant toilet and bar areas are always clean.

Normally this is a nice venture. However the staff have ruined my families perception of the place. We had used the online booking service, not for the first time, however upon arrival the 'manager' on shift informed us that we had not booked and that they had closed the booking service earlier in the day. This would have been all week and good, however this member off staff decided to tell us that we were wrong and that our confirmation of booking was wrong, mutter and act very rudely loudly and under their breathe also in earshot of other patrons. This attitude is not acceptable and my patronage shall not been seen there again. Kind regards

Delicious meal out with my friend, service was top class, we were served by a lovely waitress who was really busy seeing to all the orders. Unfortunately I did shout at the poor girl by mistake and apologized for seeming rude but she gave me a lovely smile bless!

Disgusting behaviour from management, daughter booked a table for 7, a week in advance ,establishment took a deposit, then 4 hours before alloted time they cancelled the booking stating we had not pre ordered the food. ? Although she had ordered the set meal. Would have given a minus rating but not possible. Will never use again. Their loss the The White Hart Inn in Llanddarogs gain. 5 * to the White Hart .

Myself and my party of 6 other people didn’t get to eat at this restaurant this evening. I booked online for the festive menu 3 days prior and paid £35 deposit. Received confirmation emails and texts up to the day before looking forward to welcoming us. On the 4th approximately 6 hrs until our meal i received a text to say they had cancelled my reservation. When I called in to see if there was an error I was told that we had not pre-ordered our food. It was not stated either on the website, booking page or emails/texts I received that food MUST be pre ordered. They said they couldn’t accommodate us for this reason. So I have taken my business elsewhere. A place that at four and a half hours notice could accommodate a table of 7 people for food and no there was no need to pre order so I didn’t have to tell my party that I would have to restante another time. I can’t review the food as we didn’t even make it through the doors and Tafarn-y-Phoenix won’t be receiving my business any time soon. Thank you for letting us down. Merry Christmas to you too.

A great value menu. Plenty of parking. Good size portions. Pool table and dart board in decent condition.
