We met the owner during the week and as a result of his recommendation visited their burger van Friday evening to have their homemade fish and chips.. so good. We then visited Sunday to try the Sunday lunch.. spectacular! All homemade to perfection, tasty and generously portioned it was delightful! We absolutely loved every element. The veggie option was a treat and not the run of the mill usual option you get. What a great place will be back every week!

Absolutely shocking. Roast potatoes were rock solid and two tiny ones(maybe they were bigger before they dried out?) Mushroom pithivier was flat and deconstructed, looked like someone just put a pastry lid ontop of some mushrooms. We asked if they did kids meals and was told yes 👍 then when we came to pay the bill they were charged as adults at 20 per head for half the size plate of food and one scoop of ice cream! Over 40 pound for a 4yr old and 6yr old to eat!!!! RIDICULOUS if we had known that we could have just ordered them as full size meals and had actual dessert. Basically charged 8 quid for a scoop of ice cream!!! Surprised I manged to write this with no swear words it was that sh....bad

Not a great experience, big sign on the front of the pub “food served all day 7 days” It’s not. Apparently the signs years old and they haven’t taken it down!? Beautiful location by the river but the kids play area needs some TLC, rotten loose steps up a slide and broken swing. The guy behind the bar was friendly enough and a good drink selection but still disappointed and hungry. Won’t be back anytime soon sorry.

Staff were very friendly. Burger van food was tasty . Beer was good, they even sell gluten free beer 😁. Garden is lovely, plenty of benches , beautiful river, toys for the kids and when my family go in the bar lady signs to my deaf five year old asking him what he wants. Not many places go to such efforts ❤️ recommend

The pub is in a nice Riverside setting and we were seated in a marquee by the river. Social distancing and Covid hygiene rules were being properly observed. We went for Sunday lunch. I guess they must be operating a limited menu due to Covid-19?? This wasn't made clear on the website or at time of booking, though. There were only 3 main course options (1 vegetarian). The food was very disappointing. 1 slice of meat. Watery gravy. 1 roast potato - and it was chewy and disgusting. Bland veg. Soggy Yorkshire pud. (The stuffing was nice though!!!)The service was ok and setting pleasant but we were so disappointed by the food (it was our 7th wedding anniversary). Still hungry after main course, but did not stop for pudding!!

We were more than disappointed with a recent visit we had for a lunch booking. The only plus & positive review was the setting. So picturesque adjacent to the river. However, that sadly was the only positive I can comment on.I totally understand we are amidst a totally horrendous pandemic, but having had a few pub lunches, where safety was paramount , but customer service wasnt compromised...The Cresselly Arms fell flat.on its face. The service was slow/ apathetic.Takeaway memu only. The food was just AWFUL. Straight from a frozen.packet& not even the chips were cooked.nicely.To top everything off..absolutely everything was PLASTIC !!.Plastic glasses/ Cutlery/ Condiments & food served in polystyrene containers. So much for the.planet & supporting an eco friendly sustainable business. All the Plastic waste given to us we hadnto dispose of.1st visit & woukd NEVER go againThey should be ashamed they are not thinking of our environmentAvoid at All Costs

We went here for lunch today and sat by the window overlooking the flooded Cothi river which was both magnificent and terrifying in equal measure! I had home made steak pie which had real pasty all around it not one of those stupid ‘hats’ of pastry that is the norm now which was delicious and hubby had the faggots, again delicious. He also had the lemon meringue pie which was really tasty. Will definitely go there again and highly recommend.

Popped in midweek for dinner. Not very busy but more people came in on their way home from work. They have a £2.50 happy hour special. The dining room has comfy chairs which is nice as so many places don't these days. I had the mixed grill which was a daily special £2 off usual price. It is a plate full of meats. Everything was hot. It was my error I should have asked for the meats to be a little crispier. I was thinking of going back another day but you had to phone to find out what were the daily special instead of posting on their Facebook page.

Having driven past this pub/restaurant many times for some reason it never appealed as a destination, so when all other options were either booked or on holiday I (and group of 5) booked a table. What a treat. Doesn't look much from the outside but the restaurant is lower floor from the pub side and right next to the River Cothi. Gorgeous location with decking areas next to river which must be fab in warmer months. We had a lovely warm welcome and enjoyed an excellent Sunday Dinner which was generous and reasonably priced £10 1 course..£12 2 courses..£14 3 courses with discounts for children and OAP's. Car park empty on a Thursday evening, waited by the bar for a few minutes to be served, pub empty, bar staff friendly, asked if they were serving food... They were, great.Shown to the restaurant, which was empty, and given a menu, ordered crispy pork crackling with apple and ginger dipping sauce and creamy garlic mushrooms on sour dough toast..... The bowl of half a packet of pork scratchings from behind the bar accompanied by a small pot of potted apple sauce... And the bowl of garlicky mushroom soup on two slices of white bread which arrived caused no end of hilarity!!! I have never been so disappointed and laughed so much!!!! It was like the best edits of Faulty Towers!! For mains we ordered the lasagne and Welsh chicken, the meals both had lovely side salad, home cooked chips??? Hmm, the lasagne was tasty but very stodgy, the Welsh chicken was in all fairness very nice, mushrooms, leeks and bacon sauce, the chicken breast was very tender, as a side dish we ordered garlic bread, again, left scratching our heads on this one, a small baguette, cut into quarters but bizarrely hollowed out, no bread!!! The hollowed out shells of baguette were covered in a lovely garlic butter but no bread!!! Children back and forth between the restaurant and kitchen/bar, a bit like eating your evening meal in a kids club. Staff friendly and attentive, picked up a nice print of Tenby for a tenner. Would we return, no. Sounded great but sadly didn't deliver. Had a great laugh at the starter, worth what we paid for that.

Went on a Monday night for food, but restaurant inside was being used for bingo did get a table in bar rather than sitting outside. Service was OK as it was very busy and locals were being served at the side of bar. Ordered burger, if you like your meat undercooked you'd be fine. The chef did apologise and offered a drink. When paying for the bill, no deduction from the bill even though free drink hadn't been taken. The food was a decent portion but not for the money... 2 cheese burgers and two pints of diet Coke was £34!! Won't be back as it seemed a bit haphazard.

This pub has had several changes of ownership so we revisit periodically. It s a potentially very attractive pub with the distinguishing feature a lovely dinning room overlooking the river Cothi. The older part is also an attractive stone building and you can dine here as well. The service was very friendly and obliging ( something they have definitely improved upon.) The food hovers in my opinion between a three and a four. The menu was a typical pub/bistro menu but with only one vegetarian option. It was attractively served and on the whole pleasant although my chicken was a bit stringy. There are things I want to do with the restaurant! The first is to take some wire cutters - although the volume was much lower than on a previous visit we do not need pop music played in a lovely tranquil setting. The second is to offer a bit of imagination in the restaurant itself - although clean and functional, it is rather bland and cries out for this lovely setting to be transformed by a not too expensive makeover.Give me a pot of Dulux and I will have ago myself!

We called in en route home from north Wales. It was a glorious sunny day so we sat outside. There was happy hour prices for beer which pleased the hubby. I had ham eggs and chips and I really enjoyed it. Hubby had lasagne and although be said there was not a lot of meat he said it was tasty. Priced reasonable and outside seating area was really nice the patio area is right on the river and it is a nice touch to have a clear panel so you can see the fish popping up occasionally for their supper. Tiny moan - get rid of the cracked milk jug it's a haven for bacteria.

Hadn't been here for quite a few years..decided to celebrate 2 family birthdays with evening meal. Menu was not as per website, only one veggie option, very scaled down menu. When meals arrived, they were bland, tasteless and overall a 'complete waste of money'. The sweet menu was shockingly poor and we couldn't actually finish them, they were so bad. The crumble had a most bizarre taste with a very thin layer of crumble with a very runny bowl of filling...the prices certainly didn't reflect the quality...quite frankly this was the worst meal my family and I have ever had..

Had a very pleasant evening meal recently. The pub was very quiet but warm and cosy. The building itself is very interesting being an old coaching stop off point and well worth having closer look at. The food was excellent with a very varried menu. The portions were very large, I had the Cresselly Arms burger and I was unable to finish it there was so much, I chose not to have any additions to the meal and I am thanful that I did not. It was lovely and I regret wasting some of it.

Visited recently with children (3 & 10) and had an enjoyable evening overall. The outdoor play area’s a little tired but still proved a lovely distraction for the young ones. The menu is vast and very reasonably priced-it also includes some old time favourite puddings! Can’t say the food was exceptional but it was definitely good value for money.

Just a shame it was pouring with rain but we did sit in a window seat by the river, lovely friendly lady serving in fact she was the only staff member we see, sausages and mash very nice and well presented at a reasonable price, not the most comfortable seats though but nice decor.

Visited here for lunch and must say it's nice to see a bar with its own identity not like the new pubs.Food is amazing and cooked to perfection. So the chef obviously knows what the score is.Bar staff are quick friendly and most welcoming. There is a children's play area which is surrounded by fencing so safe for the young ones. The new couple running the pub are warm welcoming and very pleasant.I have seen reviews about the pub being dated run down with odd decor.WHATS WRONG WITH STANDING OUT FROM THE CROWD.

Based on the high recommendations via these reviews, we visited as a family in the evening. Rang beforehand to book a table and was told we could be fitted in but a little later than we first requested. Good sign, obviously busy. Or not. Arrived to see quite a few tables spare so not sure why the original time wasn't plausible. Anyway, the decor was bizarre to say the least- seemed recent in places although the design is a cross between 90s British Italian with faux cream leather and mint, mixed with 80s black and hot pink in the toilet and rustic Spanish taverna and highland twee check in the bar (and don't forget the bordello red fairy lights hanging from the pendents) and modern glass panels to separate areas. The outside affords a beautiful riverside view on one side and the other side a hotchpotch pile of higgledy outbuildings and demountables and seating areas complete with rubbish pile and plastic white gazebo. Not great really. Food was again straight out of the 80s and whilst prompt and hot, was also bland and basic- pub fodder from my childhood; chilli con carne; curry with tinned pineapple; mash and 'chip shop' sausages.- and not homemade nor high quality. Absolutely baffled by recent reviews- they surely mustn't get out much if they rate the food and premises so highly. Feel a little bit bad reviewing so low as waitresses were very pleasant and it was clean and prices were so-so and being honest I found the whole evening a little amusing given that it felt like we'd stepped back in time- almost expected to see Boycey and Marlene serving behind the bar complete with chest rug, st Christopher and shoulder pads. Wouldn't recommended I'm afraid as I'd be embarrassed to send anyone there for the food but for sheer entertainment value, it's worth a visit :)

Visited today, first time since it reopened. Party of four we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table overlooking the river. We had burger and chips, sausage and mash and I had the lasagne. All home cooked and very tasty. My lasagne in particular was one of the best I have had and a good sized portion. We were too full to sample the desserts but I managed some ice cream. Good value. We will be back when we are in the area again.

Visited several years ago and food was fine. Called with friends on 15 Aug 17 and noticed new owners so did not know what to expect. All our meals were very well cooked with my lasagne potion small and a little bit dry, but tasty.Young bar staff and waiter a little bit aloof and need training and to let their face know they are pleased to see you. Positive reviews are well justified and would definitely call again when in the area.

My partner and I came to the Cresselly Arms for dinner as we'd heard such rave reviews about it as it's been under new owners since last July. And it did not disappoint. I had the Pork Loin in Welsh sauce and my partner had their famous Cresselly Burger. It was all cooked to absolute perfection, cheap prices for amazing food, with a beautiful riverside view. We sat out in the huge beer garden and play area and stayed for hours. Fantastic customer service, cannot fault it at all. Have seen a previous review saying that children and dogs weren't welcome, but they seem to have the wrong pub as they are extremely family friendly and dog friendly in the bar and garden. Would 100% recommend to everyone, will be returning!

We were amazed by the food at The Red Lion. A high-quality menu exemplary for a modern pub. Portions are enormous, food is delicious (I recommend the Greek burger), and above all the staff are outstanding. Vegetarian options are a huge plus. In sum, we found The Red Lion in Llandybie to offer superb value and an authentic Welsh pub atmosphere. We wouldn't think twice about returning - excellent establishment, diolch.
