Taaj Restaurant & Lounge in Magherafelt

Awful. Got a takeaway this evening- £18.95 for 6 tandoori prawns. Vegetable curry that comes with tandoori had no vegetable. Onions with tandoori are literally raw onions. Cheese naan has no cheese at all. Was so hopeful for a decent takeaway only to be robbed £25 for absolutely cold and disappointing rubbish.

Paid a premium price for a single beef Madras with Boiled Rice. The curry wasn't like Madras at all rather it was watery and flavourless, the beef was described as tender but was not tender at all. You can get way better Madras curries elsewhere for half the price literally. This was a very disappointing experience- I can literally get better frozen Madras curry from Iceland! Deleted the app from my phone. Felt like I was scammed.

Absolute robbery for delivery £15.60 for delivery for a 18 min drive. It took 1hr 15 mins to get here never had such bad service before. food was not worth it not nice very very greasy DO NOT ORDER !!! from here avoid

Very poor chicken tikka masala and paswari nann bread. Going by the reviews I thought the place would be good but I was sorely disappointed when I took the food home. This meal was so bland and flavourless. After recently moving to magherafelt I thought I'd give this a go but I will never be back. If this is their standard it is ridiculous that they are still in business...I have always visited the Khayber in Galgorm and this restaurant falls far below their quality. Perhaps there is no competition and that's why they produce such a poor quality meal, I suggest they visit Galgorm and have a taste of the quality they should be producing.

I just had the worst korma I've ever had in a take away from the Taaj. Bland, beige and tasteless. Also found it quite expensive.

The taaj never a bad experience, our waiter sorcha was very good all night knew what she was doing and never failed to help us throughout our time there, food was unbelievable first class experience definitely will be back many more times, great staff, food and atmosphere

This place is wonderful. When I go on vacation, I love to try many different restaurants. I'm going back before I leave. Naan bread excellent Chicken Tikka massala excellent Prawn byriani excellent Not only the food, but the service is outstanding. Sandeep helped us along a lovely young lady. I'm going again.

Ate here recently, food was nice though for me could have done with being a little more spicy for my taste based on my selection of dish. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Had a beautiful flavoursome meal. Staff very attentive and informative explaining the menu and forthcoming with great recommendations. Compliments with the highest regards to the Chef for a superb meal. Only negative was the Restaurant itself was very cold, resulting in our early departure after starters and main courses. We were out to make a night of it and would gladly have sat on for desserts and wine. Sadly it was not comfortable enough to do so. I think our next meal from Taaj will have to be a carryout.

I went to this restaurant on my own as I’m away on business. The food was excellent. In fact it was possibly the best Indian food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It isn’t the cheapest food around but it is definitely worth paying the extra for. The front end staff were very pleasant and couldn’t do enough. The decor was very nice and clean and they had upbeat Indian music playing in the background. I will definitely be going here again. Many thanks

Rip off! Most expensive Indian restaurant in Northern Ireland. Price increase of £4 per meal. Chicken Tikka Masala £12.95!! They’ll probably blame Brexit.

Can’t recommend taaj enough. Have been a loyal costumer for a long time, food is always amazing, my favourites are punjabi masala or butter chicken as well as masala chips and garlic cheese naan! We are always so well looked after by all staff.Cant wait until we can sit in again and enjoy a cold cobra with great food!

found a foot long (at least) black hair in my food! Utterly disgusting, and appalling customer service afterwards, offered to take that portion off the bill! I would not use this place again, and that's before you compare their exorbitant prices to other restaurants in the region, has to be one of the costliest takeaway's in NI.

The Taaj is FANTASTIC!!!, We had a great family meal ( myself my wife and 4yr old daughter) ,( social distancing inplace). The food is EXCELLENT and the waitress & waiter were VERY friendly & welcoming. I ordered a chip n gougons meal for my 4yr daughter however she ate my lamb tikka masala as it was cooked beautifully and it waa a new flavour for her. DEFINITELY cgo back again.

2 very underwhelming curries! Bland taste which looked and tasted like it had been made in a large batch with little care and thought. Don’t think I will be making a return trip. Pity as in the past the food was good.

Had dinner and drinks in Taaj last night and it’s honestly my favourite restaurant ever, they had all the proper social distancing and safety measures In place so we felt very safe. Food was amazing as always and the staff were so accommodating, they even gave us a round of shots on the house. Fab vegan/veggie options also! Thanks Taaj!

We reached late as per our reservation but still they accommodated well with pleasing welcome even not rushed. It was great place to relax. After a long time had real Indian food which was cooked to perfection and well presented. Social distancing hygiene measures were being well adhered. All in all a great experience and we will all be returning. Food service and atmosphere were all superb. Would highly recommend.

Visited on a Sunday evening with friends. As always the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Service was very good. All the food we ordered was delicious. The staff were very helpful when advising my friend on vegetarian options. I cannot wait to go back.

I took the Family to the Taaj on Sunday (30th Aug) This wasn't our first time visiting, but was the 1st time we brought the kids. The restaurant now has a one way system into and out of the restaurant with hand sanitizing stations placed throughout the restaurant.We could tell from our previous visit that tables had been removed to allow for social distancing which instantly created a feeling of safety for myself and my family. The staff all wore masks, some even wore masks and face shields.Our table wasn't set until we had sat down and the menus gave off a smell that suggested they had been recently sanitized. We ordered drinks which arrived promptly while we scanned the menu. As always when I go to an Indian I want a bit of everything so it took me a bit longer than usual to make my decision. The owner (Manjeev) suggested I try the Lamb Tikka Pardesi (Now my new favourite) it was exceptional, fantastic, delicious... I could go on. My wife and 3 kids all ordered for themselves and we ended up with happy faces all round the table. Even more so later, one of the kids had ordered from the kids menu (Kids eat free on Sundays). So that got knocked off the bill. Bonus :) We finished our meal, paid the bill and got met at the door by the other owner (Pradeep) who thanked us for visiting the restaurant, chatted for a minute or two and said our goodbyes. The whole experience was fantastic, the restaurant was warm, clean, safe and friendly. I would have no hesitation going back and would definitely recommend. The bill wasn't overpriced considering 5 people eating and 2 enjoying adult beverages... (Just a few) ;) If you are in Magherafelt, then it's a "Must Try", you won't be disappointed... 5* all round... If everyone done it the way the Taaj does it, then eating out experiences would always be fantastic.....

Visited here recently and was stunned at how little effort they had taken for Covid measures. Rather than keep 2 entrances, they have blocked off one of them and everyone has to come out of a smaller door rather than the main door so that they can fit in more, yes more people and tables on the ground floor!! It’s crazily unsafe. Upstairs is jammed too. The Govt need to investigate such places and introduce guidance for restaurants as there are no screens between tables, no spacing and a lack of signage. Some, but not all staff wore a face mask but the place is crammed with people. It’s so crammed that if one person coughed, we would all get the virus!!! The most unsafe I’ve felt since restaurants reopened.

Visited with my partner over the new year the food was delicious I always go for lamb and my partner had his favourite chicken punjabi masala. Big portions and so many dishes to chose from naan bread is to die for and so are the masala chips. we visit as much as possible and have never been disappointed by the food or service can't wait until next time. Highly recommend to try it if you haven't already

This place never fails to please! Every dish we had was so tasty. Such authentic flavours. I've been to India a few times and the food here matches the quality of anything I've tasted in country. I was there with some friends who love Indian food too and they were so impressed. I also love the service in the Taaj. They have the balance of being friendly and welcoming yet professional and efficient to perfection. Highly recommend.

Tonight was a taster evening to celebrate their sixth birthday & it was an excellent evening all round. Great food with a great atmosphere as always - it was a pleasure to join you all for this special event!

We we're excited to go for dinner here as we had been before a year or so ago and it was brilliant but we were really disappointed this time.

I went with friends for dinner last night and we were very disappointed with the quality of the food compared to reviews we had read and from a previous visit. Prices were high for food which was on the whole probably frozen and reheated but certainly anything but fresh. Service was not as good as we expected and in particular the lamb kebabs and butter chicken and naan wasn’t great. I expected better and it was a disappointing evening

Group of friends out for a birthday treat . The whole evening was a pleasure . Waitress Lindsay very knowledgeable about menu and suggested a few different dishes when we couldn’t make up our minds . Absolutely fab and we will be back for the next birthday outing .

Went to the Taaj last night for the very first time, we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we came in. As this was our first time, the waitress Linzi was very helpful and suggested different dishes to try. We started of our dinner with some popadoms washed down with a pint of Cobra and a glass of wine. We had a vegetable platter to share, great selection of different starters. As recommended by our waitress, we had the Chicken Tikka Malai Methi and Chicken Tikka Balti with pilau rice, masala chips and garlic naan. The food was absolutely amazing! I could not fault anything! We were both stuffed and has no room for dessert, so we decided to have two cocktails, a whiskey sour and french martini, which were so good that we had to get another two.

Such a great range of vegan options, wonderful range of flavours quite possibly the best vegan options in mid Ulster would definitely recommend! Also the cocktails are very refreshing and the service is amazing!

My wife and I took our daughter,son-in-law and 4 grandchildren for a family get together. A wonderful wonderful experience thoroughly enjoyed by our whole party. We started with the pompadoms and variety of tasty dips. For starters we all shared mixed platters. So tasty and a wonderful variety of food to excite the taste buds. The grandkids sampled these as well and thoroughly enjoyed the different tastes. For mains the 4 adults had varying tastes - medium to hot and all of us were very satisfied with the meals. Clean plates all around which says it all. The kids have a separate menu but can avail of Indian dishes - korma etc. Again they loved their meals and were extremely satisfied afterwards. Even more appealing is the fact that the children are free. One child free with one adult meal. What a generous offer. I would strongly recommend this establishment for a truly wonderful dining experience. Very relaxing atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and efficient and always on hand to help. We will certainly be returning very soon to enjoy all that this restaurant has to offer. Thank you to the chef(s) for the very high standard of cuisine and to all the staff for ensuring a very happy family gathering.

Got an excellent meal from the taaj. Ordered the jalfreezi and it was delicious and the service from Adam was excellent and really made us enjoy our visit. The woowoos were also amazing and would recommend them to anyone.

Good service but the food is a little bland. Dishes do not have the strong flavours that other indian restaurants provide. Adequate but not great.

My family and I went out to eat and the service was absolutely phenomenal. The food was delivered to us quickly and efficiently, the managers even took the time to check with us if our food was alright and engaged in a conversation with he. I recently tried the chicken bhuna from the Taaj with pilau rice and it was delicious all staff members are very helpful when trying to decide which dish I would prefer.

This place never fails me! Nothing is a problem and the dishes are freshly cooked to ones taste ! Staff are attentive , yet discreet. The overall ambience is truly of Indian warmth and the 2 bosses are very professional, and not afraid to work.

If you fancy authenticate Indian cuisine, you must hit to The Taaj. Service was excellent & staffs are friendly. Strongly recommended!

I was there for lunch couple of days ago and it was amazing atmosphere and food was amazing and it was proper Indian good and I strongly recommend this place.

£13.95 for King Prawn Jalfrezi with 6 prawns & more cream based than tomato, is very expensive. Tarka Dahl had a strange aniseed flavour. Customer service not very friendly. Maybe people rate it as only curry house in Magherafelt! Overpriced, had better, cooked better & won't be back.

We’re staying with family and they recommended getting an Indian takeaway. We ordered a variety of dishes to collect. The portion sizes are good. The chicken tikka rizzala, lahori gosht, chicken tikka malai methi and tarka daal were delicious! The best tarka daal I’ve ever eaten. The kids always order korma and passanda. They enjoyed their dishes but the korma was very sweet (this being said by a boy with a sweet tooth). Would definitely order again.

I arranged to have a fundraising evening in Taaj on 27th February, 100 people booked for the evening.

We received a warm welcome , our food arrived hot & tasted amazing. We always come here fir takeaways but tonight decided to go for sit in meal , staff made us feel welcome & service was outstanding, looking forward to come back soon with friends.

Ordered take away food from here a lot of times and it is never a disappointment. Prices are fair and food comes promptly. Both the sweet and spicy options are great here. Would definitely recommended a visit or to simply order a take away.

Only visited for the first time in August but have been back a further 2 times with another trip planned for next week. Really delicious food served by lovely attentive staff. I’m new to trying Indian food and the staff are always very helpful making suggestions and every meal has been perfect.

Ordered a number of meals and sides for collection, a few off which were the chicken tikka masala. The other meals were fine but the tikka Masala were completely bland and void of any flavour whatsoever, so I definitely wouldn’t recommend that! To top it off I discovered when I arrived home that the 3 nan breads we had ordered only 1 was in the order! Unfortunately to far away to drive back!

Had dinner here last night with my husband and neither of us were disappointed. There were lots to choose from for both starters and mains. The staff were friendly and attentive, especially the girl (didn't catch her name, sorry!) who recommended a few mains, two of which we chose and were very glad we did. The meat was tender and succulent and the sauces full of flavour. The food is made to order and I was able to swap one ingredient for another. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

Have had food from the takeaway multiple times, and it never fails to impress with a wide variety of delicious Indian food.

From start to finish they were fantastic. We had a taster menu, something to suit everyone if your not accustomed to Indian food. Our party really enjoyed the food , atmosphere and friendly attentive staff who were more than helpful without being over the top. An they even presented the birthday girl with a bottle of bubbly! Highly recommended!

Friday family meal out. The food was outstanding great choice for children too which was good as this has been a problem in other Indian restaurants I have visited previously. Service was both friendly and efficient and the cocktails were the icing on the cake. Would definitely recommend for a family meal or a great start to a night out. We’ll be back soon

We have been back home in Canada now for a few weeks and it has been on my mind to write a review of the Taaj Restaurant & Lounge. I am at last getting down to it. The Taaj was a true standout and a very busy schedule for the rest of our holiday, and then since returning home, is the only thing that prevented me from giving the restaurant a glowing review sooner.

The food and service just keeps getting better and better. I have brought many visiting friends and family and they all love the food and atmosphere. Would give it 6 stars if possible.

Absolutely love this indian restaurant, for sit in and take out. Food is first class and so is the service especially from Erin she always goes above and beyond to make sure we have an enjoyable meal. Would highly recommend.

We was recommended this restaurant through our hotel it was about 15 mins drive from the Walsh hotel Maghera it was worth it. The food was very good and tasty. The staff were so helpful, attentive and friendly. I would recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the area.

Had a few deliveries from here in the past so decided to try the restaurant. Comfortable atmosphere, lighting just right and warm as I got soaked going there!! Food was delicious, well flavoured although I did have to ask for extra green chillies. Excellent service with a smile and will definitely sit in again!

Called in on Friday evening without a reservation so had to wait a few minutes before being escorted upstairs to our table. The restaurant is beautiful, lighting spot on and seating well laid out. The room was about 3/4 full but service was efficient. I had Lamb Seek Kebab for starter and my wife had the traditional popadums and dips, both perfect. Good portion of kebab. My main was chicken tikka chilli masala, a wee bit hot for me but again a good portion and my wife had Tikka Gromi Prawn as recommended by the manager Samanta. It was really nice, thanks for the recommendation! Well done to all at Taaj!

I was there on Friday night past with friends. I had chicken bhuna with vegetable pilau rice with a side of Bombay potatoes. This restaurant is high quality , 5 star health score The restaurant is always warm and comfortable, the service is excellent. They always ask if everything is ok. We eat here a couple of times month and they are always extremely professional and friendly.

Maybe our expectations were too high. We used to live in Glasgow where we were spoilt for choice for a decent Indian. 8 of us had a very average meal. A portion of pakora contains about 3 pieces,in Glasgow you get about 20 pieces and the rest of the food was ok. However it was the service that was appalling. One Indian waiter dumped the cutlery and expected us to put it out ourselves. There was another wee guy with a tie half way down his shirt who didn’t say anything and couldn’t crack a smile. We had to ask for everything twice and at the sky high prices you would have expected much more. Much better as a takeaway experience albeit the most expensive Indian in N.I

We would class ourselves as regular customer here so much so that we rarely need to view the menu as i know what I like. You always receive a warm welcome and are seated promptly . Service is efficient and friendly. The food is flavoursome, and well presented. Naan breads are freshly made and light in texture. The curries have plenty of meat in them and are good sized portions and are never swimming in oil like some Indian restaurants. All in all an excellent restaurant and Magherafelt is lucky to have this place in their town.

We are fairly regular visitors to Taaj and are never disappointment. Our most recent visit two weeks ago was with a party of 16. The food was excellent as was the service. Truly lovely staff, all the food arrived piping hot and at the same time, every dish exactly as ordered. The lamb balti was a particular favourite, the jugs of cocktails a great addition to the menu. This is a business that really values customers.

I have never tasted food so good in my life. Please try this place. You won’t be let down. Chicken Tikka Garlic Chilli Masala is to die for!
