T J's Fish & Chips in Poole

After being served the best fish and chips by far at this takeaway for some time now I was incredibly disappointed recently that the quality had hit rock bottom when ordering four cod and chips. The cod was dry and inedible. We threw everything away apart from a few chips. Not up to the usual standards. The almost one hour wait time was definitely not worth it.

Chips were hard .what oil they use to fry made them tasteless. Same with Fish , will never purchase from there again.

Overall good, kept waiting longer than I'd like given it was quiet. Very friendly server

It's a chip shop so atmosphere is miminal but service is excellent and without fuss. Food was excellent and fresh cooked and very hot VFM

Very disappointing!!! Will be a long time til we return . Battered sausage rubbery, chips that were dry, dark and looked old tasted horrible Fish was lovely though. Looked like they were packing up for the night early. Chair stacked so nowhere to sit ready to mop the floor 😕

We have been coming to TJs for well over 5 years. Today I ordered cod and chips. My cod was overcooked. The batter was a dark brown colour and the fish wasn’t pleasant. I don’t know if there’s been a change in ownership, but my last few visits have been disappointing.

The batter on our fish was not as crisp and light as I would have expected. It was rather chewy and more difficult to eat. The fish itself was perfect, as we're the chips

When on holiday here, we always have fish n chips from T J's. Both fish and chips are cooked just how we like them. They're always very popular and therefore busy, but the service is organised and prompt. Haven't tried it, but they now offer a phone and collect service which might pay off at very busy times.

I pre ordered 2 weeks in advance 39 children's meals (also catered for the vegetarians in the group) 11 adult meals for a Beavers / Cubs camping trip. The food was on time, very delicious and enjoyed by all. Great service, confirmed the order a few days in advance. I would recommend T J's to others visiting Poole. best QUALITY fish and chips tried the others and TJs constantly best quality and worth the wait you can pre order by phone. The reason their busy is because it's such a good fish n chip shop.

Excellent food with quick service

I'm visiting Poole for a quick tour. Purposefully came here to eat fish and chips. Ordered standard haddock and it was crispy and freshly cooked. You can really tell the difference. Tasted good. The packaging is also good. And the place is clean. Thanks to the staff who allowed me to eat inside. Cheers!

By far the best chip shop in town! The chips are cooked to perfection, none of those horrible hard bits you get at a lot of other chippys. The staff are lovely too!

Been to TJ’s s few times and the food has always been great light and crispy batter and the chips are amazing and the staff have always been helpful when I needed to ask a question as my daughter has a gluten intolerance and they provided a large menu on this which is fab and it’s everyday to so we can have a good old fish and chips as a family and not worry about what day.

Every time we stay in Bournemouth our last thing we do is get fish n chips from tj’s fish n chips , great food , great service and best price , best fish n chips my partner and I have eaten . Well worth coming from Devon to get them , thank you Laura and team

The worst fish I had eaten there was a chemical after taste from the fish. The chips were good. However, I also didn't get what I ordered when I walked in. I asked for one fish and chips and two sausages. However, I was given three fish and chips. When I returned to the counter I was addressed as a man and last time I checked I was female and refunded me in cash instead of back onto my card

Always great food. We came in on 4th September in the evening and the server was particularly lovely especially when it was so busy!

Bought sausage, chips and an onion. They drew an onion on the onion bag with a face and hair, so I named the onion Ollie. Because I named him I couldn't eat him. Lovely thing to do made me smile lol.

Fresh, quality cod in a light and crisp batter. The meal wasn’t too oily so I enjoyed it far more than other f+c I’ve had in the past. It was very busy but they got the order right and the wait wasn’t too long with their ticket system. Now added vegan option to the menu - great to see!

Don’t have fish & chips often but extremely lucky to have the best only 100m or so from our house. Fantastic again last night! Fresh, perfectly cooked cod with the best chops around.

Absolutely perfect chips! And the staff so helpful when it came to food intolerances. This was out First visit today and we will definitely return in may for your exciting new vegan offerings! I Cannot fault the customer service !

My wife and I who live locally to Lilliput Poole often use this fish and chip shop. We phone up 10 minutes before we go and collect it. The fish is always perfect as are the chips. Have never had a problem always good.

Excellent Fish & Chips. Pre ordered and collected 20 minutes later. Haddock chips mushy peas and curry sauce all very tasty.

The most appalling disgusting fish & chips I have ever had! Overcooked fish; overcooked chips that was crunchy! Absolute garbage ! How on earth can you be in business!

I do not recommend! Fries re-fried - the worst I've ever eaten. The fish looks large due to the breading, but in reality it is much smaller.

BEST CHIP SHOP EVER! me and my boyfriend regularly travel an hour just for this chip shop (and to be in beautiful sandbanks ofc) I won't go anywhere else. If I'm craving fish and chips I make him drive us an hour there and back for this food! All the staff are so lovley aswell.

Bloody lush! Stopped off here to pick up some fish n chips for my dinner to have at the beach, service was fast and arrived at the beach to food was still nice and hot. Was a bloody scrummy British fish n chip dinner 🤤 Definitely recommend X

We where on holiday in pool and one's a year we have fish and chips.!! And of all the places to get fish and chips from we got it from here.!!!!! I'm not just picking faults because we are all just trying to make a living. But the fish was far far from fresh it was dark and tough and the chips where soggy and tastless. My advice.!!! Give it a miss.!!!!!

Battered sausage, chips & a curry sauce all very nice & a decent price too!

We travelled and made a special trip here as we have ate before and really enjoyed it. This time however the food was awful, we couldn’t even eat it. The manager was absolutely appalling (I can’t even explain how badly she treated us) and I would recommend that any decent people should stay away from here for that reason alone. I’m sorry to say that we left this restaurant very upset and will never be returning. Also friends and family who live locally who visit regularly will not be returning and will be telling everyone they know. There is a way of speaking to people and something called customer service. That particular manager should not be allowed around people. So disappointing! Please, please, please do not risk the experience that we have had !!!

Amazing a two star review when only one week ago it would have 5 stars. Definitely the best large cod I have ever had, but today the same order and the worst I have had. From succulent flakey cod to a scag end in one week! The only reason I give. 2 stars is due to last week. One more chance and thank fully back to before. Pity about in consistency so 3 stars. 01/05/2022 Seems to have been a hiccup as now back to normal. 4Star

Chips were nothing more than the shape of chips minus any potatoe...or taste, just fat.The scampi was overcooked and chewy. Unfortunately T j's have the monopoly on chip shops in Sandbanks so there is little other choice. If I were you I'd make the effort and go elsewhere! We won't be returning.

I had Fish & Chips in many places but but this one is the TOP ONE for me, fish is big and very tasty, and chips best ever, staff is nice and polite, so good so good so good.

Went there today 28th, food is lovely but the wait for food was ridiculous for everyone that was there. There was one poor lady serving and one cooking the food, its so not fair to expect 2 people to serve all those people, boss take note as you will lose not just your customers but your staff too ..

Amazing. This will now be our favourite fish and chips place! Fish was incredible, piping hot, chips were so good, we will definitely be back!! Forget Harry Ramsden's, this place absolutely annihilates them in terms of good quality food and service.

Don't bother going to Rick Stein's restaurant in Sandbanks, go to TJ's instead! Even on a busy Friday night, the wait wasn't overly long and our cod was cooked too perfection. Not greasy at all. Staff are always friendly too. Best chip shop around. Highly recommend.

Visited yesterday and was very impressed. We ordered 2 x large cod, chips, battered sausage and pickled egg. The fish was very fresh and tasty. Fantastic light batter on fish and sausage, chips cooked to perfection and curry sauce was the best we’ve tasted. Highly recommend. Cooked fresh to order too. Nearly fainted when I saw the smallest portion of chips ever. Like an OAP portion. Won't ever go back. AVOID!

Just had the most delicious fish and chips. Perfectly cooked fish, chips just the way I like them fluffy with crunchy outside and mushy peas. For a lunch time perfect sized portion too ... Not a huge amount but worth it. Thoroughly recommend.

So we have had a holiday here in Poole last year and had fish n chips .... these fish n chips from TJ’s are amazing and since then have come from Devon to get more . Always fresh , hot and and amazing taste to and customer service is 100% , we have done a telephone order tonight and it was ready for us by the time they quote .... thank you again TJ’s another amazing dinner we have had , best fish n chips we have ever had x

**AVOID** Small portions, Patronising staff and an ignorance to COVID-19. No face masks (yet a sign demanding customers to) No staff testing, paper receipts given to customers by hand! then told to wait outside whilst the staff attempt to get up close and personal, save yourself the time and you’ll find there are plenty of takeaways within a 2 mile radius.

The fish and chips were nice, but we ordered peas and gravy, then after we had left, we got fish and chip and a small carton of beans. So wasn't very please.

Very stingy on the chips 🍟 hardly any chips. You pay for the posh empty box and posh bag. Overall nice few chips could do with a few more im still hungry. Staff are nice though

Really disappointing...long wait to receive two cods exactly the same shape and size? looked like they’d come from a packet then fried. Not fresh fish at all! Stomach ache all night for both of us :(

Decent prices, although limited menu at the moment (although it didn't seem that limited). I would say it's an average fish and chippy, nothing amazing, but also nothing bad at all. Currently have to wait outside the shop once your order is placed due to covid restrictions, so on rainy days you may want to phone ahead.

If you visit this area you have to try their fish and chips. One of the best I've ever had.

Super delicious fish and chips. The batter was crispy and properly seasoned. Chips were exactly greasy enough in that way that leaves them dry on the outside but with a firm, moist, potatoey pulp on the inside. Efficient service. I will go here every time I take my motorcycle over the Studland ferry.

Yum. Epic fish and chips. Just moved to the area. Ordered here twice. Very nice on both occasions.

Just called to order 5 cod and chips plus sides for fish’n’chip night with the family at 7:45pm, they then tell me that they are closing and don’t have stock. It’s advertised as open until 9PM! This has happened a few times in recent weeks and patience is wearing thin. VERY bad for business. Decide on your times and stick with them please. Time to find a new place to go!

Usually love the food from here but tonight’s experience was disappointing. Didn’t visit until 20:30 and chips definitely past their best BUT will go back as usually one of the best chip shops around.

Just ate one of the best fish and chips! Good sized piece of fish, the batter and chips are both crispy without being greasy and cooked just right.

Don't waste your time going there. They have no clue how to cook a basic sausage. Fish and chips is way more difficult. Customer service needs improvement too.

Although the management has changed and some recipes sadly have been lost, I thoroughly enjoyed both times I've eaten here this week. Everything was perfectly cooked, nothing forgotten and staff were friendly. I miss the fishcake they used to do (personally) but I highly recommend!

Very disappointed tonight, ordered a large haddock and large chips and a portion of fish goujons. The Haddock wasn't large and the "large" chips barely covered the bottom of the carton it came in and the goujons were neary burnt they'd been cooked that long, used to come here a lot as they were always good quality and a good amount for your money but things have certainly changed and not for the better!!!!

Used to be the best fish and chips in the area but sadly since the change of ownership last Autumn it has deteriorated considerably. Tonight's piece of fish was the size of a fish finger and the chips hard and chewy. Likely they were refried. Prices seem to have gone up too. Overall a disappointing experience not to be repeated in a hurry

Called in today waited 30 mins for chicken burger that they forgot to put in and ordered a large cod, when I asked what the delay was they said they where waiting for the cod. The cod wasn't the best and really thin for a cod fillet, the chips looked like they had been refried more than once. The standards have dropped and the quality I won't go again, I used to call this place posh fish and chips but not anymore.

Shame I can't give 0 stars. Scampi and chips from here evening Wednesday 8th May. This was all I had eaten since a ham sandwich at approx 11am. Felt very unwell all night and have been violently sick all day today. Please avoid this place if you value your health.

12 large portions of chips were amazing, but proved too much for 23 scouts. After a 15 minute walk to the ferry and a ferry across to brownsea island and 30 minute walk the chips were still hot and a delight to eat Staff were lovely as a vegan very very pleased to hear the breaded mushrooms were vegan “The chips were mint”

Friendly staff and fresh tasty food even when they are busy highly recommend

In contrast to some other reviews we found this place very good. You have to wait but that's because the food is cooked to order. Prices are on the high side of average but the quality is good and it was worth waiting for. They accept cards and there is a cashpoint a few doors down, the biggest downside is the limited on road parking nearby.

Only gave one star because can't give less. Chips were the worst I've ever had. When I found the sausage it must have been a Christmas chipolata in batter by mistake. Not happy. Drove to far away to take back and complain.
