After visiting the Churchill War Room Museum, we decided we needed to stop and have something light to eat. The Switchroom Cafeteria is located within the museum. It is a small cafeteria that is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It offers classic British fare, home-cooked pies, stews and tarts along with several deli sandwich choices, fresh salads and perfectly prepared soups. They have good coffee and an assortment of teas. The prices are reasonable. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed a freshly made Sweet Potato & Carrot Soup with 2 slices of white bread and butter (total £ 4.65). It was a delicious stop!

Very good option to be able to eat or drink something without having to leave the museum and be able to continue with the visit. Stopped here for lunch whilst touring the Churchill war rooms. Fairly limited menu – cakes, drinks & rolls – ok quality but nothing special. I’m surprised they don’t make more use of the Churchill/war theme in the menu, decoration, furniture or atmosphere (perhaps some forties music?). At the moment it looks and feels like a dull windowless room serving average café food.

As our visit lasted 3.5 hours, a visit to the cafe was a necessity. We had tea and cakes, got extra water for the tea, cakes were moist and tasty - we got two different ones and shared. Good value for money especially at a tourist venue when prices are often highly inflated.

Small, but clean and at a really useful place in the tour, as by the time you reach this little restaurant, you really do need some refreshment.Nice "old and war" related memorabilia around the walls.Tea good and a sensible price, very large pot, for two people, giving 3 cups each, for £1.95 p.p. Also a good selection of specialist teas and coffees available.Limited snacks, cakes for sale.Main meals are of the standard "British" type. Pie and chips, sausage and mash and a daily option like stew. Prices were OK for a major tourist establishment.Could be crowded at lunchtime I imagine, as not many seats / tables.Decent quality food.

The War Rooms can be a lengthy experience if you want them to be and/or find yourself just exploring each exhibit to its full potential. As such, this cafe was an unexpectedly pleasant break in the pace. We only had a beverage and a snack, but the menu overall was very reasonably priced (remember: you're in London. Snacks: ~US$5-7/pp; Meal/bev: ~US$12-18/pp) --- a real surprise given that you are literally a captive audience in this underground venue. I'd say you could safely plan on breaking for lunch here if you have the time, but I wouldn't recommend lounging too long b/c the longer you lounge the better your chances are of returning to your tour with sizeable crowds.

We were need of a rest and a bite to eat after spending a good few hours in the Churchill War Rooms. To be honest, we normally find cafes at popular tourist sites to eb a disappointment, with over priced, poor quality food provided for a captive market. This wasn't the case here, though! We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drink on offer. Our tea was hot and refreshing, and the jacket potato we both ordered was very nice indeed. Mine came with what looked like half a pound of cheese, while my partner's was smothered in tasty beef chilli. We were both very satisfied with the food and considered it good value. The room, being underground isn't particularly attractive, but it is atmospheric and they have done what they can to brighten it up with wartime posters and signs.

Order at the counter and then grab a table, if you can. it's a small place and we saw several people stop in and want to eat but there isn't a lot of table space. We had wonderful stew, sausages & mash, and our daughter had mac n cheese. All were really good and tasted homemade...not canned or box.
