There were 9 of us booked for a Sunday evening sitting at around 6pm. Overall a lovely place, beautiful building, friendly staff and generally the food is good. We didn’t have to wait too long for the dishes to come out but they where bringing them out one or two at a time with big gaps in between so by the time we could all start eating alot of the elements on the plate where cold. The greens on the plate came out cold anyway. They’d ran out of beef roasts and all condiments which is bizarre and bad organisation. If you have a booking made a week in advance you should be able to work out based on averages, past Sundays etc, how much food to prep for a Sunday service so you don’t run out, specially something like beef on a Sunday. 🤷♀️ Me being the only vegan 🙄 I had the nut roast option. Carrot was cooked well with a bite. The greens, kale, cabbage and leek, were cold and raw. I can deal with raw kale and cabbage if they have some heat. But raw leek-cold was not pleasant, like eating a raw onion on a Sunday Roast- it’s jarring to the palate. The hassle-back potato’s, aside from where the knife cuts were placed, were raw and I couldn’t eat them. The gravy seemed bought in but the nut roast did have some nice flavours and was the best part of the dish. I did feel the ratio was way off however, the nut roast was a giant mound and then a small amount vegetables although that’s just my preference, because I love vegetables. I would definitely return to try their weekday menu and the vegan dessert. Aside from my dish and the greens on everyone’s plate, the food was good for everyone else. It’s got a lovely atmosphere and great drinks selection, specially the whisky.

Quite a special place, this has tons of atmosphere with muskets on the walls and really old parts of the building to dine in - ask to be placed in the Fireroom or the Library - both have large fireplaces. Next to the canal so there's a 2 hour circular walk to walk off the Sunday Lunch. We went for the Afternoon Tea which was quite special, had 2 hot plates of food as well as the cakes which was quite unexpected.

I recently visited Sutton Hall in Macclesfield, and I can confidently say it’s miles ahead of the competition. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally warm and attentive—a stark contrast to the dismissive and unbothered attitude we’ve encountered elsewhere. Sutton Hall’s team went above and beyond to make sure our experience was perfect, and it truly showed. The highlight of our visit was the Malaysian curry, which was absolutely outstanding. Bursting with flavor, perfectly spiced, and beautifully presented, it was everything a great meal should be. Every bite was a joy, and it’s clear the kitchen team knows exactly what they’re doing. Having made the mistake of dining at the Ryles Arms previously, I can’t stress enough—don’t waste your time there. The food at Sutton Hall is leagues better, the service is far more professional, and the overall atmosphere is just so much more pleasant. Ryles Arms doesn’t even come close to matching the quality or care that Sutton Hall delivers. If you’re in the area, make the right choice and go to Sutton Hall. Fantastic food, exceptional service, and an experience worth every penny.

We attended Sutton Hall for our office Christmas meal. We had such a positive experience from start to finish. The pre-ordering of the menu was simple and easy to use for our guests (even catering for allergies). The service at the restaurant was friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. Given our number, we were given our own room, which was perfect (and beautifully festive). I would definitely recommend Sutton Hall for group events. Thank you.

We have been coming here for over 20yrs. Family celebrations. Evening meals and daily lunches. The past 3 times we have visited we have felt disappointed. The menu isn't that much different but certain things have gone. No custard with the sticky toffee pudding !!! Surely that's a must. If fact no hot desserts as such. Our mains were ok but definitely not the usual standard. They were just OK. Fat oven chips and not many, the rump steak in the sandwich was just warm and quite dry. The garnish was limp and drab. Basic chunky bread roll. For nearly £15 should be better. We eat out at lots of places so we judge fairly. I know it's a chain pub but the quality of cooking and ingredients should and can be improved easily. Unfortunately we will not return for some time. Hoping that things will change in the future. 🤞🏻

It's a lovely place and the food was very very nice. Bar service was friendly and quick. Food did take a long time to come out (felt like an age between starters and mains) and the waiting staff seemed pressured and a bit stressed. It was overall a nice experience, it just seemed there was a disconnect between who was running the floor and who was running the kitchen.

Really great spot for a bite to eat or relaxed drink. The vegan food is incredible… the chef really knows how to cater to dietary needs. Apple and chicory risotto as a starter, followed by a mushroom bourguignon pie… and a cheesecake for dessert (all vegan, all great size portions and all delicious!). Really happy every time I visit. The staff are really friendly and attentive. Sadly they don’t do cocktails, other than the specific five they list. Shame they can’t add a few classics, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Martini. I think that would elevate the whole thing up another notch. Anyway, I highly recommend.

Stately home of Lord Lucan with plenty of nooks and crannies to hide in and expansive grounds. Now a pub with excellent food and drink. Always a delight - except at my last visit when I was appalled to see they had erected an enormous oppressive canopy in the rear courtyard with huge flames from outside gas fired heaters continuously warming up the planet despite nobody being sat there. Displaying that you don't care about pointlessly burning fossil fuels does not set a good environmental example especially when there's nobody sat outside because anyone with any sense on a cold day would be sat inside keeping warm. Turn it off and get rid of it!

Despite making notes of 2 high chairs required for the booking. We turned up to find there weren't any left. We tried to go elsewhere but it was too late. We weren't able to eat and had to wait for high chairs. We got one, fed one baby then my mums food was cold cause she couldn't eat. I rushed my food so I could take a baby from her so she could eat her cold food. You need to communicate with your customers. We were regular customers but we won't be back now. Really disappointed. Paid £140 to be wound up. Had we been called/warned we could have done something about it. Manager said that they have 7 seats and give them out until they run out and that not everyone makes a note on the booking. But we had. Unacceptable response, suggest you train managers on customer service. Also get more than 7 high chairs for a restaurant of your size. Evidently not enough. Better customer service in a supermarket cafe.

I'm giving 5 stars with a but, I ordered the chicken breast with sautéed gnocchi, with the grilled little gem and mint oil I thought it would be a great dish to complement the heat today! It truly was on its 3rd attempt, unfortunately the first time it was sent to our table it was covered in beef gravy which completely ruined the dish, i unfortunately had to go and find some waiting staff who after reading the menu told me its meant to come with gravy... an italian insprired chicken dish doesn't tend to come with beef gravy but changed it anyway after a short wait we received them again however aswell as no gravy half of the dish wasn't there, we did point this out but she ran off and ignored us... saving grace is the Spanish FOH guy (sorry that we shouted you over but you seem to be the only one doing anything), what a legend he brought the dishes back and correct in the blink of an eye, excellent and well thought out dish that came together beautifully in the end. Definitely worth a visit, there was a function on and apparently its a new dish, maybe we just had a bad experience

My friends recommended Sutton Hall… It was a birthday treat . Beautiful venue, sadly pricey mediocre food at best.- Asparagus- 4 spears, overcooked dry ‘poached egg’ thrown on the plate …come on guys!!! We ordered Nut Roast for main course …. Mmmnnnnn still not sure what we ate though granted we did eat the sloppy, tasteless mush as we’d completed a super long walk and we were hungry. I think they were Hasselback potatoes, small and dry x 3, some sort of greens and packet vegan gravy. ( a crime scene ). Clearly the chef has NEVER eaten this dish, hates nut roast and the guests who order it. The beautiful venue does the ‘heavy lifting’ shame about the low quantity expensive food. Thanks but no thanks .

Beautiful venue, tricky for parking nearby though. Food delicious and staff pleasant. The atmosphere was affected by the noise as it was difficult to hear guests at our table talking. Also, the lighting was a little strange as it kept dimming randomly and then getting back to reasonable levels. Food is served on small plates only so don't expect a massive meal. Overall, lovely place and would likely go back to give it a 2nd go.
