Sushi Wakyo in Elmbridge

We were walking the Thames path this weekend and stopped off overnight in Walton - were so lucky to have spotted this place to drop in for dinner (instead of just having some random pizza!). We love sushi & everything we had here rates right up there with some of the best we've had. Love the little touches to elevate stuff - the aburi salmon nigiri for example had a nice little bit of salmon roe & garnish on top. Unagi was bang on. The speciality rolls we had were awesome (the walton bridge one was ace) and also really good value for money. My description here isn't really doing it justice so just take my word for it :-) Top notch service too - our waitress was very attentive, knowledgable and friendly. We will definitely be back next time we're in town!

I tried it a few days ago. The food is okay, but the menu price does not include tax,I felt a bit dishonest and no more next time.

As a family of 4 we have been eating here ever since it first opened including many extended family members and friends, group parties and family milestones have been celebrated here. The food has always been exceptional. However, last night 18th Oct 2024 we were presented with the bill whereby they added 20%VAT without warning or prior knowledge of this. As we were paying cash we had ordered based on this with a tip included for the staff. As a result the £120 cash I had didn’t cover the bill, let alone the tip which came to nearly £140 with the VAT added. The business owner refused to come and talk to us when we politely asked. A waitress explained that it was displayed on the back of the menu, and sure enough on the last page (which we didn’t order from) at the bottom it says all food and drinks are subject to 20%VAT to be added at the end, she added that their lawyer and accountant has said this is legal….well even if it is, they removed it immediately we paid in cash and left. The business is doomed if this is how they are treating loyal customers. It feels very sneaky, no transparency just out to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. If you’re adding 20% to everything just do that in the menu on all the items! They’ve just lost a whole lot of future custom. What a shame & a waste. Guessing people will revert back to Iro Sushi and Koroko. We on the other hand will be dining at the Japanese BBQ in East Molesey from now on. Ben

I cannot recommend Sushi Wakyo enough. I eat there most weekends. It’s so fresh and so well made. The sashimi melts in your mouth. Ex chef from ZUMA in Knightsbridge and it shows. There is such finesse in flavour profiles and presentation of food. There is also a great lunch menu to try at a good price point.

My friend and i popped in here for lunch after we heard great reviews on facebook. It DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The quality of the food is on par, if not better to what you would get in a high end London sushi spot. The sashimi and Nigiri was beautiful and melt in the mouth, super fresh. Even the miso soup was beautiful. It was quiet when we went but even so the waitress was attentive and patient. Would absolutely recommend and we will definitely be going back!

Can’t even begin to explain how fantastic the sushi here is. You know its quality fish used from just the taste and the presentation is something else. Takeaway is equally brilliant but I feel the menu is more extensive in-house

What a find. Top level Japanese food. Fantastic bento boxes and all topped up by a nice ambience. The external windows are very dark, so you don't really see inside, but venture in and you'll be delighted

This is 1 of my favourite Japanese restaurant. I live in staines but willing to travel to Walton just for the food. Thanks for the amazing food. A very happy customer here.

Wonderful food and staff. Excellent variety, some unusual dishes, really hygienic setting, very atmospheric. Tucked away not far from the river Thames.

Fantastic ambience, amazing staff very knowledgeable about the menu and very polite, just couldn't do enough to make our dinner very special. Best of all was the food which was simply superb. Can't wait to go back.

I'm trying different sushi places in the Esher, Weybridge, Cobham, and surrounding areas and Wakyo is EXTREMELY overpriced for what they deliver. I paid £12 for Toro tuna which is the most expensive nigiri sushi amongst other things and it was grizzly pieces they put together on top of nigiri rice. Absolutely disgusting. Everything else also way way way overpriced. For a £70 order for two and I called for extra ginger and they barely sent over enough for the two of us. AVOID at all costs!!!

I and my family love this restaurant. Foods are incredibly good. Service is always friendly. We always come whenever we want to eat Japanese food.

Sushi wakyo are disappointing- I ordered from them regularly and the one time they messed up my order and I complained (rightly so when spending nearly £45 on a takeaway) they then refused any future orders. I would reccomend anyone in the area to go to sushi Mori. Their food is better and actually better priced. Shame on sushi wakyo - terrible service to a returning customer just because you messed up. I value customer service so highly and sushi wakyo are absolutely disgusting at that! Avoid people. Sushi mori in chertsey is the one!

brilliant little sushi shop that I didn't know even existed. easy service and the dishes looked like something out of a movie. brilliant night and for only £30 I will be coming back here 😁

So our first time at SW and certainty our last. It was a fairly quiet Thursday night and whilst the restaurant wasn’t busy we certainly saw lots of delivery driver coming in to collect home deliveries so I think the place is popular. We sampled various things items from the extensive menu, Gyoza, Shu Mei, Tacos, Scallops, Tempura Prawns and Duck. All of which were well presented, delicious and generally good value for money. We were lucky enough to be seated in one of the more private alcove tables, which to be honest is better for the dining experience as well felt the open seating area was too brightly lit and less attractive, also it was quite cold in the main area, but it was a cold night outside. In summary we enjoyed our food and would return.

Had a family lunch here at my sister's recommendation, and was hugely impressed. I had the teriyaki beef bento box which included the beef and vegetables, rice, sushi, fried chicken, gyoza (dumplings) and a salad. Everything was delicious, and the variety of tastes and textures only enhanced the meal. Service was friendly and efficient. Will be going back the next chance I get.

The food is so good but it comes slowly so not good if you don’t want to sit around or just if you’re really hungry and can’t wait. The best sushi though I like udon

This place is AMAZING! Food is really delicious! We had a sashimi set and it was soooo damn good: fresh seafood, smells good, looks good, big chunks and so yummy! We also ordered sushi and it was delicious too! All food we had was truly amazing. This is the place where you can trust Google reviews for 100%. I highly recommend! 10 out of 10!

Very nice family-run sushi restaurant that deserves to be busier. Cozy booths seat up to 4, and there's an open area for larger groups. All the food we had was very well prepared and cooked. Bento boxes had a very good range of elements. Pricing generally OK but one or two things seem very expensive, especially the shrimp tempura (£8.50 for only 3 pieces).

All the food was absolutely delicious. We started with sashimi which tasted fresh as a daisy. Followed this with baby ribs in truffle, chocolate and coffee sauce, Octopus balls and fried chicken and ended with tuna and beef mains. Service very good if not a bit too quick! Bottles of Japanese beer to wash it down. I think the chef is skillfull and precise, a real talent. Overall a really lovely meal at a reasonable price for what we had. My only regret was not having the Black Cod but it is a bit pricey for a small piece of fish. I’ve had it here before and it’s indescribably delicious. I don’t understand why the restaurant is always so quiet, I’ve never been disappointed here and if I could afford to do so I’d eat here once a month at least.

Brilliant meal at Sushi Wakyo, we had bento boxes which were fresh and delicious. My daughter had ramen which she said was very good.

Ordered tofu bento box, advertised as vegetarian. Came with fish sushi, fried chicken and chicken gyoza. So £15 for 4 slabs of tofu. The rest being inedible, very poor.

My most visited restaurant in the area. We order almost every week! The staff are so lovely and kind. The food is out of this world. I recommend trying every bento box. Best restaurant in Walton by a mile.

One of the best sushi restaurants around. Authentic, cosy, warm, attention to detail, and the price is very reasonable. You can tel the chefs take care. The waitress was also very friendly and attentive with a smile. 10/10,definitely my go to sushi to eat out from now on!

The dashi for the tempura prawn was so tasty! So flavoursome!!! Best I’ve had in years!! The prawn tempura handroll was nice but could have been better with a sauce inside, seemed a bit bland. Overall, for our first time there would definitely try again

The new menu here is so good, the ramen! The yellow tail. Sashimi! The ROLLS. Even my Nugget warrior son tried some sashimi (before his chicken katsu curry) My favourite place to eat.

No bull - this place should have a Michelin star - it's THAT GOOD! We went on a quiet Sunday evening, just two other tables in. We had the spicy beef ramen noodles first - OH....MY. ....GOD!!! WHAT an explosion of flavours!! We were just in heaven. Generous slices of ribeye beef, melded into the expertly mixed flavours. Soft and crunchy noodles gave differing textures as we worked our way through it. Plenty enough for two to share. The soup left over when you'd eaten all the solids was a dream! I was a bit worried that it could only be downhill after this lush start. How wrong can you be? We moved on to the California roll (six pieces), which again was divine, drawing lots of 'Mmmmmmm-ing' from both of us. The waitress advised us to mix the wasabi and soy in a little side bowl and dip. We'd never tried this before, but will be doing it in future. Next was the piece de resistance for me - the volcano dragon roll. Words can't do this justice - some of the BEST and tastiest food I've ever eaten! Just the look of it is enough to make you drool! That was our original order done, but we just HAD to try one more dish, so we ordered the Rainbow Dragon roll. Again, but in a different way, outstanding! Such sublime and complimentary flavours that just took eating pleasure to a new height. Completely satisfied and satiated, we gladly paid the bill. We just WISHED this place was nearer to us! I am glad I had my first experience with Japanese food at this restaurant. The setting was lovely, customer service was really good. They could not do enough for us.

There are dishes such as fried tofu and silver cod saikyo-yaki. The sushi rolls are also arranged stylishly. Although it is not run by Japanese, it had a wide variety of food. The staff was also polite and nice.

Highly recommend here. You must go for a try. The new chef is really good. You even can order something which is not on the menu. Fresh seafood, tasty food, plus good service. We are really enjoyed. Will definitely go back again. Hopefully Wakyo considering omakase sometimes. 😊

Amazing restaurant. I've been to traditional restaurants, expensive in and out the country but this one is my favourite by far. Better than any rokka, sushi samba, stick and sushi and ang other fancy place. If you want a fresh japanese food with a reasonable price, go there.

We came in an they we're just about to close, they stayed open so we could have dinner. The food was really good quality, great presentation, selection and taste. Its reasonable priced for sushi. Sushi should never be a cheap meal...We will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Found this place and tried it out after reading its google reviews! And i absolutely didn’t regret coming here. Ever since I first tried their selection of food, I kept coming back. Definitely one of the best sushi outlets in the area. From delicious soups, sushi’s, sashimis and salads to A class presentations and friendly staff. We were served beyond their kitchen closure timing too. Definitely good value for your money 👌🏼

Great food, attentive service, pleasant atmosphere and plenty of space between tables!!! The quality of the fish is really good and the sushi is freshly prepared and quick to arrive & beautifully presented. The service is friendly and not overbearing. There is parking close nearby, a bit difficult to find on the GPS

I used to dine in at Sushi Wakyo with my friends but I haven't been there in a long time. Lately I have been ordering sushi from another place in my area. Today I have decided to order from Sushi Wakyo for a change, I must say their sashimi is definitely the best quality in this area. I am extremely fussy about the quality for sushi and sashimi, it's about what part of salmon and tuna etc they give you, just like tuna, fresh nice quality of tuna should be in fresh red colour but not light red nor pale. I am impressed with the high quality of sushi and sashimi Sushi Wakyo delivered to their customers. I would be happy to continue to be their customer and would also recommend anyone who lives in Walton area to try them.

A nice small traditional styled Japanese restaurant. Food is excellent quality. Sushi and Sashimi are always a good way to see if a restaurant uses fresh ingredients and their sushi and sashimi are excellent. It is small, so not many tables, so it is probably worth booking as it can get busy.

Best Sushi in Surrey! I have been to Zuma’s and Nobu in London and this is as tasty and enjoyable as any venue in the west end.

Not a big Sushi eater. I have often passed by this restaurant and not visited. But glad on this occasion we stopped in as the food was fantastic. Very tasty and also surprisingly filling.

A hidden gem just set back from the highstreet. We always have a great time at Sushi Wakyo - good, varied menu and nice layout with little booths available. Highly recommend the tempura veggies, takoyaki (pictured below) and the dragon roll (pictured below). The ribs are good too!

Not having been before, we reserved a table for Friday lunchtime. No need, nobody else ate there but deliveroo were in and out all the time. The food was amazing, especially the sushi and sashimi. Offered fish not normally served in our local Japanese restaurant. Tempura was good. However, there was no heating and we froze. When we mentioned this we were told it was winter! I would love to eat here again but wouldn't book. If it was really cold I'd leave and eat at one of the many restaurants nearby. Or perhaps a takeaway.

Would never order again! Please avoid if can. Rude staff over the phone and trying to avoid mistakes! If there would be a possibility to leave - with stars it would be definitely a case!

Great quality food and friendly service

Amazing hidden gem close to Walton on Thames river side, fresh and nicely presented fish plus delicious meat dishes, especially recommend pork belly and dynamite salmon. With the lunch set menu it's incredible value as well! Second time visiting and will definitely be back.

Went for lunch and was very pleased. Friendly staff and good sushi and miso soup. I had strawberry mocha for desert and it way great would highly recommend.

Let’s start with the positive; the sushi is great here! Credit to the sushi chef. What brings this place down is their approach to customer service and lack of flexibility. In our last visit we received a terrible service as the waitress seemed to be rushing back behind the counter. The restaurant wasn’t busy with only one other table. Many things were forgotten by her including our drinks. When we refused to pay the service charge due to the terrible service we received, we were told not to go back. What made it even worse was that the owner was at the restaurant but didn’t care enough to find out why. It seems they don’t value customers more than a few Pounds!

Took a chance on this restaurant and sad to say the food was very poor. Tempura soggy, squid dry, takoyaki was tasteless. I don’t normally leave reviews unless they’re positive but the food was really disappointing so felt I had to. Hopefully just a one off.

Firstly, the food is superb, and that really is the main thing isn't it? The restaurant itself is maybe typical of Tokyo but a bit 'cold' in terms of decor by English standards, which may explain why there was a constant trade in take-aways while we were there but only twelve people sitting down to eat while we were there. That said, we were there only at 7pm. This place is a gem: we will go there often so please try it at least once. We had a bento box with nasu goma rather than the other option of gyoza (dumplings - my spelling is sure to be wrong).

Searched for sushi restaurants and this had many great reviews so decided to try it out, drove for 25 minutes to get here but its so worth it. Went on the the dot of opening hours at 12pm Sunday, was the first table and ordered a beef bento, a lunch set menu 12£ and sushi set £12, seaweed salad 🥗 ... the quality of food is outstanding; freshness, presentation, the price is good 👍 😋, great customer service and definitely under rated, its one of the best sushi restaurants I have been for a while. Totally recommended and thank you.

An unexpected gem that served as the perfect spot to meet up with a friend on a day trip out of the city. The truffle beef was stellar. The toilets under refurbishment, which added a certain air of danger but I'm sure that will be finished soon. Thanks to our waiter who played along with us telling our guest to expect a high tech bathroombexperience like those you see in Japan when what was actually there was a building site. A very good sport!
