Surrey Street Cafe in Croydon

I was absolutely shocked. I am a black rastafarian looking woman and was asked to pay in advance for my meal yet all the white customers i saw paid at the end of their meal. There were other people of colour in the cafe but they were already eating so i dont know if they were asked also. I couldn't finish my food and left without saying a word. I always say thank you and this is the firs time in my life that i didn't. I will never ever eat in this establishment again.

Very good English Breakfast, very hot coffee & tea; good value for money

The best kept secret in Croydon! I love this place, the food is fantastic, the service is wonderful. It's a decent caff that does an affordable and delicious breakfast! Long live the greasy spoon!

From the outside this place doesn't look great but the staff are really friendly and the homemade meals are great. Really good shepherds pie, comes with good crispy roast potatoes and a great big pile of veg.

Always make a point of visiting when I’m in Croydon. Lovely fried breakfast and proper cuppa tea. Friendly staff and good mix of punters.

A friend of mine told me about this cafe in Croydon, saying it was the best cafe in Croydon. I went there, and was not disappointed. Breakfast starts at £5.00. For that you get a fried egg, a sausage, bacon and beans, two toast, and a cup of coffee or tea. Home made cottage pie with chips or mash, and vegetables for £7.50. Yummy!

Still my go to for cafe breakfasts when visiting Croydon. Nice people, good fry ups, great value. As always highly recommended as a cafe.

Good solid cafe serving locals and market street traders plus the odd tourist in the know! Usual breakfasts plus other foods and it's never let me down.

A great little cafe serving good traditional grub. What a bonus that they even open on a Sunday morning.

Yep it’s a cafe so judge my mark as a top one for a cafe. Does what a cafe does and looks after the market traders so needs to be up to standard. Don’t expect any frills but decent belly fillers at very sensible London prices. Long may it continue.

Went to Surrey Cafe twice because I really enjoyed the food. I am always trying different places for English Breakfast to see how they are. As well as Breakfast, they have burgers, Pukka Pies and other homemade dishes. The staff here are wonderful and friendly. On the first visit, just had a sausage and egg. When it came, it was egg and bacon, although it was not what I ordered, the bacon was trimmed and looked good. But anyway, the sausage and egg I had was perfect so came back again for more because I found out that they use my favourite St Nicholas Baked Beans which are more savoury in taste. A few days later, I was back for the breakfast. As you can imagine, it was very hard to make up my mind so had the Set 1 Breakfasts which includes beans, sausage, egg, bacon and 2 slices of toast with tea. The buttered toast was so good because it was buttered with real butter and having two slices was very satisfying. In a way I regretted not getting the bigger breakfast which comes with bubble. Anyway, top marks for it all.

Everything you want from a cafe. Great prices and cafe food as it should be. Freshly cooked hot food served by friendly staff. Still recommended.

We got there pretty late but the staff was so friendly and helpful! Everything was delicious,I got the lobster ravioli, I ate every last bite! I tried a little of everything our table got. The veal was excellent and the meatballs were the best I've had! Like I said super friendly, definitely family oriented.

Classic market street cafe catering to all. Breakfast as it should be and very consistent, hence I keep using it rather than spending over the top at whatever hotel I stay in.

When visiting Croydon I stay in various Town Centre hotels but would never pay for breakfast at them. I come here and have a classic cafe brekkie of egg, bacon, sausage, beans with two toast and tea for £4.50. What a bargain.
